Magellans is a family-friendly bar and restaurant. We came for a quick dinner and were pleased with the food and atmosphere. We ordered a Caesar salad, fries, and margarita pizza. Everything was tasty! Our waitress was working hard and everyone was friendly. We came around 6pm on a Friday night. The bar area had a nice crowd and the seating area started filling up as we left. Don't skip the restrooms. They're very thoughtfully decorated and very clean. I would go back to Magellans if I'm in Waukesha again. read more

The server didn't know anything about the menu and beer selection. To top it all off, when the waiter brought me a drink after having to ask twice, he handed it to me and said "the Bears still suck!" We were sitting navy to a table of Packers fans and they couldn't believe he said that. As a Bears fan and down 21-3, it was a crappy thing to say, especially coming from a server. I've been to this place a couple times and this is very interesting. If your into people watching then this is definitely the place omg. It's some many characters that come in here left and right, good looking and crazy looking lol. I always come at night time, but recently I tried the early day and still the same craziness SMH lol. The staff that work here are very friendly, Very attentive to the customer's needs and just overall good customer service. Everybody tells me the food is great I recently just had the nachos, they give you a big portion and it was good. I'm looking forward to trying more things on the menu, cause it seems like from looking at other food orders it looks like they got something special here. I'm just going to put it plainly, Magellans is not a place you should dine at. I've been here a few times before and I've never been impressed. Each time, my party has ordered a couple pizzas and they taste fine. But nothing is hot. We ordered some garlic bread, and what they brought out to us was cold and cardboard-y. There wasn't any real flavor to it. You could taste a hint of garlic -- emphasis on "hint." After a couple bites, we didn't bother finishing the rest. The marinara sauce tasted like someone just took it out of the depths of an overstuffed refrigerator. Tonight I tried a margarita pizza. At one point one of the cooks came out and told us that there weren't any tomatoes left because the case froze. He offered to substitute with sun dried tomatoes, which was fine by me. The pizza had a pleasant taste to it -- I especially appreciated the ribbons of fresh basil on top. But, like I mentioned earlier, it wasn't hot. On a scale of Antarctica to the inside of an active volcano, the temperature was probably at a six. The real frustration was with the seating. When my party arrived, we asked if there was room for five. To which one of the servers responded affirmatively, but one of the vacated tables needed to be bussed first. After the table was cleared, my party went to take a seat. At that point, the server informed us that the table was actually going to be used for a party of 10 that was coming in. We acquiesced and waited for another table. Altogether, it took about 20 minutes to actually get a table. Which would have been fine had the server not offered us a table and then retracted that offer. It was a lot of sitting down and then standing up and then huddling in a corner because there wasn't anywhere else to stand so we wouldn't disturb people. By the time we were seated, my party was pretty annoyed. It really put a damper on the whole experience. Our server was efficient if not friendly. But it seemed like it was incredibly understaffed. I don't plan on returning to Magellans anytime soon. After this pretty terrible experience (and two aggressively mediocre experiences previously), I wouldn't recommend Magellans to anyone. VerdicTL;DR: Believe the negative reviews about the food. It's a shame, as I would have loved to have given a higher score. Magellan's is one of the few downtown Waukesha restaurants that my kids and I had not explored yet, so we went a few days ago. The ambiance and the decor of the place were great, and we felt immediately welcomed -- in fact there was a lady who came outdoors after seeing us peep through the window to ask if we wanted to come on in. Our server Kate was efficient and friendly, and I have nothing but good things to say about her service. The beer selection is extensive and your usual assortment of local and regional microbrews. So far, so good. The problem is the food. The french fries and the cheese curds look, feel, and taste like the frozen mass-produced stuff you can get from Pick'n'Save. The burger tastes bizzare -- the meat is clearly overly seasoned, as if it were some kind of garlic meatball rather than, well, a burger. Both of my kids who had ordered the burger commented that it tasted mass-produced and strange, and one of them just refused to eat the burger outright. It was only after I tasted the burger for myself that I realized why -- I've not tasted a stranger burger-shaped object in my recent memory. I don't blame her for not finishing. Then the pizza came. In no particular order, here are our observations: 1. The crust itself seemed well cooked, almost to the point of burnt-ness in some areas. There are probably hot spots in the oven where they cook their pizza. 2. The sauce is absolutely taken over by the overpowering flavors of burnt oregano and basil. It tastes like someone took pizza sauce out of a can, dumped a whole container of dried Italian herbs into it, then reduced it to the point that the herbs burned. It's heinous. 3. The pizza is structurally unbalanced. Too much cheese, and way too many toppings. Due to this, it manages to both be well-cooked on the bottom and very doughy in the middle. 4. A large (16-inch) pizza starts at $32. Even at the time of this review, even in this age of inflation, that's a high price to be paying for a pizza of this size. You can get a much better burger if you walk half a block and go to the Mainstream, or hop into a car for 2 minutes and go to Sobelman's -- it'll taste like fresh ground beef expertly grilled instead of a frozen garlic meatball. You can get better fries and cheese curds just about anywhere, including at Culver's. If you want good pizza of the hand-tossed variety in Waukesha, head over to Raised Grains. But whatever you do, don't waste your money here. read more

Ok first things first. If you are all about the carry out the December 2020 deal is available until the 21. When you order a large pizza you can get a free refill for your growler (4 beer options) and a free garlic bread. So great deal and perfect time to give them a try. Place definitely has a locals vibe with a 70's atmosphere. Service was excellent, beer choices (Kentucky Bourbon is smooth) were a plenty and the za was on point. So many pre-made pizza choices with great names, like "pretending not to be white trash". We decided on the classic Sicilian with sauce and it was incredible. I've been here as well for large group parties and had the food catered. The menu was a taco bar and it was good. The atmosphere. The place has expanded and grown. Outdoor seating and Friday Night Live and the occasional live music. Service has been consistent over the times but a few bartenders that didn't seem to care if you were waiting to be served as the socialized and then have an attitude about it. It may have been the hottest day of the year but the pizza was even hotter! Their pizza was fresh out of the oven with a delicious herb blend. (The pizza did not skimp on cheese - to some possibly on the border of being over-cheesed). We also tried the pork nachos, which were really good. They were short staffed when we visited but that did not effect the great service we received! Our server did an awesome job guiding us through their menu and his recommendations were right on point. I've been going to Magellan's for a long time, and they've steadily updated/upgraded the place. What was once just a bar with a few tables turned into two spaces (one smoking, one non) with a new focus on art. Then the two spaces joined after the smoking ban, next up was added draft lines, another remodel, more draft lines again, and it keeps on changing for the better. But, the one thing that hasn't change, is the food. You know what? That's a good thing. With 40 different specialty pizza options, plus build your own, there's definitely something to please everyone on the menu. Some of our go to pizzas include That Jimmy Buffet Song Only Here and With Bacon (it's a bacon cheeseburger pizza with hamburger, ketchup/mustard sauce, pickles, onions, and mozzarella cheese); The Dirty Dirty, Welcome to Waukesha, Where the Playaz Play! (mozzarella, pepper jack, bbq sauce, shredded BBQ pork, fried mac and cheese bites, and coleslaw); and the Pretending Not To Be White Trash (garlic, olive oil, sundried tomatoes, roma tomatoes, parmesan, mozzarella and bacon). We've eaten them fresh from the bar, or called in an order and picked up to eat at home and we've only been disappointed once on the quality/taste. Note, if you place an order to go, there is a small upcharge for the box/bag. Beside pizza, I'm a fan of their wings. Their big, like really big, and when you pair it with 40 cent wing night on Monday, you can't go wrong. Thai Peanut is my favorite sauce offering of theirs, as it has just the right amount of heat. Looking for craft beer in Waukesha? Sure, there is a beer place across the street, but Magellan's is where you need to be. They have 54 taps (I think they downsize to *only* 46 during the winter), and they are always rotating, so make sure you download their app to stay on top of what they have tapped. Oh, talking about the app, when you download the app you get a coupon for a 10" one topping pizza with two draft beers or soda for FREE! You just have to download the app at least 24 hours before you plan on getting there. The app also is where you can get your beer card "punch". Buy 8 draft beers and get the 9th free. Plus, there are other offers on their too. The one thing that keeps Magellan's from a five star review is that things are usually not perfect. You'll always get two of the following, but rarely all three: friendly service, good/quality food, and fast delivery. It's a shame, as I feel that is what is really driving their Yelp rating down. Oh, and if the owner's are reading this... please bring back brunch. That opening weekend of brunch was amazing (oh my god that monkey bread, I still dream of it), yet the following weekend the quality went down big time (no scratch OJ, cheaper ingredients and overall reduced quality), which definitely had to do with people not returning for it. read more

Last week I came here for a pizza. my menu said "Italian Sausage, onions and black olives were no charge.". I was charged for them. I asked about it and was told that had gotten an old menu and they showed me a 'new' one that didn't say that. I complained. Nothing was done. This week I came back and ordered an appetizer that was to include 7 pieces. It only had 5. I complained and was told that I had their 'old' menu (it was their 'new' menu last week) and that they only gave 5 pieces now. They are waiting for their 'new' menus. They offered me half off, but their menu said I should get half off on Fridays from 4-6. It was 5pm on a Friday. Nope. that's their old pricing. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I will let everyone I know about this. Also, the manager was on vacation and the owner wouldn't come out to talk to me. He sent his waitress out. Not her fault. read more

We have tried to support local. First time we got pizza here it was great this was about 7 months ago. 2nd time we went was around January one pizza was burnt all the hell and the other pizza was completely dough'ie in the center and we got sick afterward as we got the jambalaya and bouy, we said something and nothing was done about it except we will give you a free pizza next time, FYI never got a thing from the bartender for a free pizza as she was busy talking with her friends that day. We thought the cook was just having a bad day. So our 3rd time which was last week we got our 2 pizzas that we always get in support business during this time. Well that was a giant mistake again. Both pizzas completely doughie again about halfway thru. It was raw dough. Parts in the topping were cold to the touch. This will be the last time we support Magellan's until they get a new cook. Our neighbors have had the same problem in the past weeks. As we talked to other people around town at Fuzy's and Mainstream they have said the samething that the food has gone way down hill. It was my first and last time at Magellans, for Friday Night Live. Sitting out on the patio, I waited over 20 minutes for an order of French Fries. Not more than five minutes after they were brought to me, we were told we had to leave our table and sit inside, as we had to get off the street/patio. That I can understand and was fine with, but the thing is, we had a friend with us in a wheel chair. The only tables left inside were high tops. If I had known we were going to be forced to go inside a hot, steamy restaurant and make our disabled friend sit outside to finish our appetizers, I wouldn't have ordered the lousy order of fries. The wait staff was uneducated about customer service, rude, and discriminatory towards people with disabilities. The staff was all Caucasian (one token African American male server) and we happened to be sitting with two Hispanic friends - the only two minorities sitting on the patio. We asked for boxes and left. We refused to let our friend in a wheel chair sit outside by himself!! We were still charged for the French Fries and pizza, which we weren't allowed to eat at our original table. I refuse to spend my hard-earned money at a bar/restaurant that doesn't know how to treat customers with respect and that is discriminatory towards the disabled and minorities! If you support the disabled and believe in doing what's right, I suggest you do the same. read more

I really do want to like Magellans, really. The pizza, especially the 10" size is pretty good. And they do have lots of different beers. But there is always a burr under the saddle when I visit (this is the third time I've been here over the last several months. Last night its the video beer list. Magellans has 50 beers on tap, but who cares when you have to wait for a video board to scroll through the list 10 beers at a time? And when the descriptions of the beers are incomplete, the waitress really can't tell you anything about any of them and there is no printed list of the available beers? It's just plain annoying, as is the lack of coasters under beverages at the table. Fortunately the pizza is pretty good, with a nice sauce, not too sweet, and a great hand tosssed crust. And yet, they use canned mushrooms, which is really too bad because they don't match the overall quality if the pie. As for the appetizers, you should just skip them. Most give the taste and appearance of being bought frozen and are just ok. My daughter had the mac and cheese bites and the marinara sauce that came with them tasted like cocktail sauce, very weird. As for the restaurant itself, the space is newly decorated and nice. The front of the restaurant is all windows that can be opened when its nice. Unfortunately they were open yesterday on a day when it was nearly 90 degrees, leaving it uncomfortably warm inside as we ate. Service is mediocre, not particularly fast or friendly. I want to give them 5 stars. The brand new bartender and manager were AMAZING. Great service and the food was A+ delicious options. However, Erin who is another server that realistically I should have had zero interactions with, was just awful and miserable. I sat at the bar and she stood behind the bar with a scowl on her face. When I tried to ask a question, she responded with "ask them I'm not a bartender tonight apparently". Ok, no problem. Apparently, she was the food runner and a server for the tables. When she walked by with my appetizer I said "oh I think that's mine" she rolled her eyes at me set it down behind the bar and told the bartender that she had to give it to me. The entire time she was rolling her eyes and making faces at the other bartender and the manager making drinks as if they were not making them according to her standard. Now fast forward to the end of my time here, The bar is filling up and the manager gives me a to go box (I'm sitting right next to the stack of boxes) and she tells me if I need another one feel free to grab it. I did grab another one, only to be greeted by Erin who begins to berate me to the rest of the restaurant and yell at me for going behind the bar to grab the box and a plastic cup. What an awesome space!! We stopped in for dinner Friday night and we were very happy we did. They have a rotating craft beer list and a large variety of specialty pizzas. The bar was full by 530 when we popped in and we decided to sit at a table at the bar not realizing there was a full dinning area. Our waitress was very attentive. She helped with suggestions for beers and pizzas. She even suggested to us to download the app so we can always see their rotating beer list and enjoy a free 10 in. pizza and two free beers on our next visit. We got the pizza relatively quickly - there wasn't that many people in yet. The pizza was very good. I'm not typically a deep dish pizza person but it was very delicious. I'm a fan because this place has a casual, laid back environment and the BEST pizza in Waukesha (my favorite is the BBQ Chicken). They also have a lot of promotions throughout the week. I'll admit they can have spotty service: sometimes longer waits for pizza (especially when busy and there are only two on staff), but I think the pizza is worth it, and when I plan to go there, I know that I might be up for a wait. In the summer, you can eat outside, and during Freeman Friday Night Live, they usually have a band and decent size crowd congregating outside. Magellans is also great because they take part in a lot of the downtown community events. Oh, and who else in the 'sha has 40 cent buffalo wings ($4 minimum) on Thursday nights? While their pizzas are creative and packed with toppings and their drinks are innovative and tasty, I've given them a rating of 2 because of my experience last night. I am gluten free, because of an auto-immune disorder, and they offer gf pizza crust for $2 extra. Cool, right? Except, they charge you for a 10 inch pizza which is $24-25 and you get a personal size pizza. Personal pizzas cost $14-15. So really that gf crust is $12 more. Ouch! When I told the waitress, if I pay for a 10 in, I should get a 10in, her reply was, "It's how they stretch the crust." What? Now she did try and "make it right" by giving me $5 off my bill. Okay, so now I paid $7 for gf crust. Still not okay. Poorly run business, cheats actually. If they charge you for a 10in, you should get a 10in, with 10in of toppings! read more

I enjoy this pub a lot. The dark haired chick bartender that is on staff most of the time has the canny back for,remebering a face and a drink....maybe that's because I sit at the bar and drink Ginger Ale, LOL. If beer is your thing, this is the place to be as well they boast of haveing the largest selection of craft beers in Waukesha, WI. There is an app for your phone so you can study up prior to arrival. The food is pretty good. They make a mean street taco served the right way, as good as the ones we get in Mexico when we visit. Pizza is a local favorit and what pub wouldn't be a Wisconsin Pub without cheese curds, these are spot on! They have darts which looks fun, I haven't played them yet, but intend to go back and give those a try. The music is for 80s babies, which describes me well. Myself and some friends went here at about 11:30 pm on a Saturday night. The bartenders (2 of them- one was "man bun" ) were all over each other (inappropriately sexual) and obviously did not want our business, they were so into each other , they clearly were trying to get rid of us so they could close up and be together. It also had a horrible toilet smell. I will not go back and try their food although I heard it was pretty good. We were so turned off by the attitude we got , we (6 of us) will never go back there. read more
