We went to Corvallis this last week to have lunch with family and decided on going to China Delight. It was OK. The food was fine, not outstanding as the flavors of good Chinese/American dishes were lacking. Service was fine. The server was organized and very timely. What made me give China Delight 2 stars was the restroom situation. I am not a fan of the code system, but I understand there is a homeless challenge in the area that has caused the restaurant to install these code systems. But the restroom itself was filthy. If one controls who can use the restroom, it should be clean, and not resemble the kind you find at gas stations along I-5. Not sure if I would want to come back to China Delight. read more

Stinky place. The bar stunk, the men's bathroom smelled like urine. We ordered takeout and played video poker in the bar while we waited for our food. Homeless people came in, one of them brought in his very aggressive pit bull. And apparently workers from the bar were in there being loud and helping themselves to drinks behind the bar. Me and my family have been eating here for years now, we always get their lunch special they have on weekdays. the only thing better than the food which is already the best in all of corvallis is the hospitality of the employees and owner. they also have a lot of orchids that are almost always in bloom that really add to the ambience of the restaurant. read more

I ordered the egg flour soup which was basically like broth and the wontons which were undercooked. I think what was most upsetting was that there were 3 huge koi in a tiny tank in the front entrance. I felt so terribly for these fish. No space, no shelter to hide in nothing in the tank to enrich them. They were way too big for the space. I honestly don't write bad reviews and would probably have skipped writing this one but the fish made me so upset. I would consider this animal abuse. I have worked in aquariums and the fish, though they might not seem like it, have social lives and personalities. I can't imagine spending all day in a tiny tank with no space and only feeding time to look forward to. It's inhuman and it makes me so hurt that people don't consider what it must be like to be caged with not even one bit of enrichment. read more

We stopped in for lunch on our way home from the coast. It was the first time we had ever been here. I am not much of a meat eater, and I don't like fried tofu either. They get special kudos for being willing to make a custom dish for me: Kung Pao Vegetables (which were nice a crisp), with no meat,tofu, or mushrooms. And when I asked for extra peanuts (it becomes my protein) they were very generous with the peanuts. I saw they had a ton of vegan/vegetarian options so I figured, hey, there must be a big demand for meatless options here so I'm sure it will be good...wrong. I am not sure how they managed to make everything so bland and flavorless, and lacking salt, which I find incredibly unusual. The veggie wontons and potstickers are filled with nothing but unseasoned tempeh, and the sweet and sour sauce was unlike anything I've ever tasted; it smelled/tasted like lemonade. The only item I was able to eat were the potstickers; I enjoyed the texture of the dough and the sauce that it came with. Fried rice...tasted like regular white rice, but somehow with even less flavor S&S chicken...soooo many peppers and pineapple and onion and again somehow still no flavor once I found chicken Shrimp egg rolls...crispy outside but so soggy throughout the rest...cabbage tasted boiled which I'm sure contributed to the wet mess inside, shrimp tasted old and just no on the syrup that comes with it. Sesame balls...I try these anytime I see them on the menu because they're my favorite. I've had some really bad ones. And surprisingly, they were the one thing from my order that was good. Once I dug in, the taste was decent. I usually don't mind if food is too bland as I like to go heavy on the soy sauce, but this one needed just a little more to get the taste right. The flavor is there, just needs the salt. The Sweet and Sour Pork was good. It was super crispy even after the 20 minute time from point A to point B. Nothing special about the fried shrimp. General tempura batter. Nothing to brag about. Not pictured-The rice: it came in a separate 8 oz chinese take out container. Taking their menu literally, the side of fried rice is just that, rice that has been fried in something to turn it brown. Now, forgive me if I am wrong, but isn't fried rice supposed to have peas, carrots, other ill sorts of vegetables...this was just...rice. So lonely. Depressed even. Taste wise it was decent as well. Definitely needed a bit of the estrogen maker to salt it up. Look it is covid time, businesses are barely afloat, so I will grade them on a curve and give them 4 out of 5. The worst Chinese food I have had in recent memory. The veggie egg rolls had a bizarre, disturbing taste like sauerkraut (i.e. cabbage that's gone around the bend), making me wonder just how many weeks these sat around before they were fried. I ate half of one and tossed the rest. The sweet and sour pork tasted like very old fryer oil and gamey, tough pork. The Singapore chow fun was edible-ish I guess, but super bland and with no good curry flavor. The so-called "fried rice" was a gummy brown (weird) block. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

How does this place have 3.5 stars? and this is from someone who was actually LOOKING for ' average Americanized... feel slightly sick after you eat it because it's so good, type of Chinese food'. What I got were two giant fried egg rolls filled with cabbage and maybe 1-2 carrot slivers with some sugary syrup sauce that couldn't even be defined as grocery store sweet/sour. We each took a bit and laughed. Cabbage roll! It was tasteless and not nice. We were going to share Mu Shu Pork. Typically, this is a dish with sliced meat, shredded cabbage, bean sprouts, egg, mushrooms, green onions cooked in some sort of sesame oil, oyster sauce, soy sauce mixture and then served with crepes and a plum sauce. hahahah. We opened the container and it looked like boiled sliced green peppers and cabbage. We scoured through searching for any signs of protein- oh, wait, a couple slivers of egg and about three pieces of pork. It was tasteless. Literally, tasted of nothing. But wait! We found 4 little PACKETS of hoisin sauce. Each packet contained maybe a teaspoon of sauce. The rice was fine, so we ate that, got our own sauces and soy sauce out and ate a bit of the vegetable mixture which, to their credit, did appear frozen. but... SO. MUCH. CABBAGE. Sorry China Delight. Maybe we just ordered the wrong thing, but it was SO wrong, we just can't recommend it. read more

If you're looking for adventure cuisine then obviously not the place you are looking for, but they have been here for more than 40 years so they are doing something right and definitely established in the cliché-esk genre of Americana Chinese resturaunts. When I'm looking for Hot Pot, this is not the place I go, but when I'm looking for Special #2 with Sweet and Sour Pork instead of Sweet and Sour Chicken...hands down my favorite. This was our first time trying China Delight. We ordered chicken lo mein, orange chicken, cashew chicken, and pork egg foo young, and everything was amazing. Despite having to be transported across town, the veggies stayed crisp and the noodles stayed chewy. Flavors were excellent without being too salty, and we all felt very comfortably full after stuffing our faces with multiple servings. I am a big fan of China Delight. When it comes to Chinese food in Corvallis, I can honestly say this is the best I have had. I used to come here all the time growing up in Corvallis (it's been around a while) and I came back recently when I was visiting family for Christmas. It hasn't changed a bit. The owners are kind and attentive, the food is excellent, and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. There are a multitude of vegetarian options here, and so delicious that even my meat-eating family members were singing the praises of tempeh by the time we left. Dishes I can heartily recommend: The sesame tempeh, the salt-and-pepper tofu, the green beans in black bean sauce, and the egg flower soup. But really, everything is great. Worse food I've had in many years. General Tsa Chicken, coated with a dark, pasty, gooey substance that was virtually tasteless. No vegetables seen at all. Kung Pao Beef, gristly, without flavor and again, few vegetables, which is the less expensive ingredient to a dish so why they are missing is anyone's guess. The "shrimp egg roll" without any shrimp, just bean sprouts and a couple skinny carrot shavings. I've had few dishes here in the past that were okay, not great, but after spending $35 I will never go back. The staff is nice. read more
