Great food but will not let you make a substitution to your order. I asked if i could get House fried rice instead of reg fried rice for a upcharge and they would not do it. I don't eat reg fried rice or steamed rice i like meat in my rice if i will pay a upcharge i don't see a problem. Will not eat here again until they change this policy. it's my money why get rice i will not eat when wiling to pay more for something i will eat. read more

I remember Magic China from the days of the original owner --who also happened to be my landlord. The days of using real chicken stock to start the hot & sour soup have changed ... dramatically. The hot & sour soup has a rich, dark color. Why? Because they start with soy sauce. It's not terrible, considering there are various vegetables in the semi-thick broth. But, it's neither hot nor sour. It tastes like something with the label 'Chun King,' and I doubt I will order it again. The beef & snow peas have a nice consistency, but the flavor is that of soy sauce --and that's after I have poured a small container of peppers and oil on it, The sesame chicken tastes a little different than the beef & snow peas, probably because they put a little sugar in it . Good? No. It tastes like I'm eating at a food court. Paper-wrapped chicken ... It's not bad. It's not as good as I remember from years back. But, it's difficult to mess up chicken and spice. A little on the dry side (white meat), but the flavor is good. The lo mein is probably the highlight of the restaurant ... because they don't have much of an opportunity to over-flavor it with soy sauce. The vegetables are far from crisp tender (they are cooked instead for people without teeth), but the pasta was just this side of gummy. Bottom line: If you are a smoker or a senior citizen and your tastebuds are shot, this is the place for you. I, on the other hand, like to know whether I'm eating beef or chicken; rice or pasta. I'll probably be back here -- when I'm desperate or drunk. Otherwise, I'll stick to the frozen food section of Wal-Mart, or just go to McDonald's. read more

I'm sorry for having to give this place to stars. If you would have gotten me to make a review about seven years ago it would've been five stars or maybe even 10 stars but now the food has gone down hill. just don't like it. my personal opinion. A long-standing favorite of ours. We can always depend on fast and cheap take-out Chinese, and plenty of it. Yeah, you can dine in, but we prefer take-out, since it doesn't have much of an ambience. I can't in good faith give them 5 stars, but for what it is, it's very good. TIP: Ask for the lemon chicken, which isn't on the menu. Not good! At least not if you take it to go. When we poured the eggrolls out of their paper bag, they were in a pool of grease. The cream cheese wontons were too tough to eat and the sweet and sour chicken should have been called soggy and mushy mystery meat with no-flavor sauce. The rice was decent...that was all. LOVE IT! This is another family favorite! I can recall numerous birthday request as a kid for MAGIC CHINA take out for dinner. (now i request that my parents and sister and her bunch and my family eat here for my adult birthday lunch) They also have HUGE lunch portions. The staff is great and we always get the same lovely lady who really loves working here. So its nice to see staff who really enjoy what they do! Plus when we do dine in, they don't mind that my husband is eating WENDYS instead of magic china. Since he WILL NOT eat any chinese food, and might i add, i have tried!!!! I have been coming to this restaurant since 1992. In the past I recommend and visited this restaurant all the time. Was 5 Star!! Now I only go when I am desperate for some Chinese food and each time I go another dish has declined in quality so I have only been 3 times in the last year. My family ordered take out and got beef and broccoli and sesame chicken . Beef and broccoli was great . Sesame chicken was absolute horrible . Never tasted sesame chicken very sweet . They need to completely trash the way they do it and start over . 2nd was the rice . It was like it was a bunch of old rice thrown into the container very disappointing . Not even sure where to begin.. Before new ownership, since the late 1980s, we enjoyed countless wonderful meals at CK..Ate there at least once a week..Now? Most dishes are completely overladen with shredded cabbage and can't tell the difference in different dishes at all .. also, other than ordering it with every meal.. our kids that are now grown grew up getting CKs special egg drop soup when they were sick.. it was like Mom's homemade magic chicken noodle soup..it was the best soup in town!!! now? Best Chinese place in Longview If you have eaten here you wont eat any other Chinese in this town Pepper steak and any of the fried rice is amazing. You definitely get more than you pay for as well. I've eaten Chinese Food all over the country and it's hard to believe that the best I've ever had is at small place in Longview, Texas called Magic China. I've eaten several different entrees there, and everyone of them is good. My favorites are the Pepper Steak and Shrimp Fried Rice. It is always hot and good and big enough for two meals. The staff was always friendly and nice. The food is always piping hot and the restaurant is clean, which is a problem for a lot of Chinese restaurants I've been to before. Best cheap Chinese I have had in a while! We just moved her from CA and were looking for a good Chinese restaurant. The food was cheap ($6-9/plate) and delicious. I have been going here (less regularly since we moved out of town 4 years ago) for the past 10 years. It was a favorite lunch spot when my husband and I worked in town. This was my first experience with hot & sour soup and now I can't eat it from anywhere else. I was never a fan of soups before I had this and I really enjoy it with the crisps they serve (I'm no pro here, I don't know what they are called but they are crunchy and they come with the soup) I also think their egg rolls and chicken fried rice is really good. So, for some 25 years now I've been eating here. Not long ago I would have rated 5-stats. They always knew what we want...just the way we want...when we walk through the door. The place recent obtained a new owner (3rd owner is some 25-27 years) and it isn't nearly as good as it once was. Why change the recipes? The wonton use to be the best in town. Silky noodles with beef and green onions. Now the noodles are always tough, the green onions are gone, and they've gone to pork. In a word - inedible. The duck sauce, while it use to come out chilled and a syrupy consistency, it is now in a squirt bottle one each table and runs like water and isn't nearly as tasty. Needless to say the food isn't as good either. I've noticed they have a lot of new faces in the kitchen as I have never seen in the 25 years I've eaten there the transexual who now works in the kitchen . I'm assuming a good bit of the kitchen staff is new. While I wish the new owners the best of luck, I hope they realize they acquired a rare gem and they should have stayed with it's originality...even the decor, which they most certainly have not. read more
