I have been a Magic Fingers client since their original location. This Church Ave location is just a few years old and brand new to me. I made my appointment by phone as opposed to doing so online. I like the phone option because I need to be able to add extra details verbally. I arrived for my 4PM appointment with all of my hang-ups and emotions about my kinky, knotty, 4C type hair. A stylist named Sharaya sat me at the shampoo sink, understood my issues and assured me that I could trust the process. I trusted. I was rewarded with a wonderful, deep cleansing wash. Sharaya used her time and patience to comb out all of my tangles and my requested Butterfly Braids, turned out really pretty. Since leaving MF I have received several compliments. I don't know why it's so hard for black people when it comes to professionalism. I had a 1pm appointment with Jael today. I walked in exactly at 1pm. Greeted everyone and informed them that I had a hair appointment and with who. Two out of the four ladies there said "hi". Eventually I sat down waited, after a few minutes I ask "is Jael here?" One of the hair dressers mumbles "yeah" (which wasn't even Jael). I then wait another 15 minutes and still no one has came to greet me or even acknowledge that I was a paying client here for a service". Eventually I asked again "I'm sorry, who is Jael?" To which she finally opens her mouth & say "me". Keep in mind she still currently doing someone's hair". I then asked "how long will I have to wait" she replied "like 30 minutes". Just so unprofessional! I would've waited if she actually greeted me and just let me know "hey can you give me some time" that would've been no problem. I have locs so my hair style wouldn't take long at all, plus I had to go to work after which is why I booked for a specific time but just leaving me there and me having to ask repeatedly "who and where are you" is just not okay! This was my first visit to this hair salon at Studio 2. I got here at 9am for my appointment. I liked that they washed my hair before as well, as my hair is natural felt good to have other hands do this for me. With everything covid 19 there seating is spaced out and you have to wear a mask and they have hand sanitizers a the door for customers. I did the medium knot box braids. Very neat. Went here because I needed braids for an emergency trip I had to take. Since my original braiding girl was booked up, I remembered Magic Fingers Studios offers specials every Tuesday. Tuesdays are their staff development days in which trainee staff get the opportunity to practice the same hairstyle on customers. The benefit to us, the customer, is that the hairstyle is discounted. I decided to book since I was in a jam and had to travel unexpectedly. This particular Tuesday was large knotless braids. The girl who braided my hair was Joanne. She was very sweet and took her time with my hair. Stasha came over a few times to check on her and her progress. I did think that was nice. Braiding hair is provided and that's always a plus in my book. The facility itself isn't anything spectacular in terms of decor but it was clean and spacious. Bathroom was just ok to me. Went to Magic Fingers because I figured if I'm going to pay 140 dollars for kid's braids, then I might as well go to the best braiders for that price. I brought my two daughters and Sharaya did both their hair. She did a good job, hair neat, but the picture I showed her isn't what I got. A simple ponytail that's corn rolled on the sides with a Tetris parted braids for the bangs. She just braided her hair up into a ponytail and three crooked braids for the bang, 140 bucks!!! The braids are neat and she looks super cute, but for that price, you have to be as close to the picture, not just do what you'll like. read more

So far I have been here twice and I am very pleased with the service here. First of all, reception is really nice and sweet. Just yesterday I got my hair done but my original stylist wasn't able to do it so my appointment got pushed back and thankfully they were able to squeeze me in. I've had my hair braided by quite a bit by people before but i love the technique and uniqueness that this salon has when it comes to hair braiding. One thing to note is that always be sure of what hairstyle you want done. Not all the stylists can braid certain styles. They tend to be really booked due to their popularity so be sure to book in advance. I would definitely recommend this salon! read more

This location is closer to my house but I don't know if I will be back. I went during the anniversary special. There was another customer there getting 6 stitch braids. When she mentioned that she didn't see any stitches the braider told her because her hair wasn't bone straight. I didn't like that. Braids are supposed to be a protective style, the customers just need to make sure that our hair isn't tangled when we get there. They still run a blow dryer through your hair anyway. I feel like they should post the work of all of their braiders from both locations, not just Stasha. read more

I brought my daughter here for a hairstyle for picture day for the $50.00 special for kids. Cornrows were neat but the extension add on's were poorly done, very sloppy and amateur looking. The braids are very stiff, hard and bumpy. Even my daughter mentioned that the stylist kept asking for assistance from another stylist during the styleAs if she didn't know what she was doing. I really had high hopes for this place but I'm very disappointed in the style and a ruined picture day for my daughter. This was my first visit to their #2 location. I had been to the first location previously and had a decent experience. When I arrived on time for my appointment there was no receptionist but the other stylists near the front instructed me to sit in the back. I had wanted my hair washed prior to styling but didn't learn until I arrived that I had to show up 30 minutes prior to my appointment for that. The salon itself was fairly clean and professional looking. A little while later I was greeted by a braider who discussed the style I wanted and at that point she gave me the price. Once I agreed to the price she started with blow drying my hair and then proceeded to braiding my hair. Throughout most of the process I was comfortable but I did have to ask her to be more gentle with the blow dryer when I began to feel my scalp burning. My braids was not properly secured at the tips!!!Only got 5 braids which took 2hrs!! why!? still have no clue! Definitely was over charged! The shop has a sale on its website that states 6 stitch braids for $99 no one share that information with me which was a red flag since i'm a new client. I had high hopes for this salon after reading the online reviews. My appointment was for 3:30 with Dami. I entered the salon at 3 pm . I checked in and was told to have a seat. At 3:45 the receptionist came to me and said I would be seeing another stylist. At 4:35 Jay comes to me and tells me she will not be able to do my hair and another stylist will. Second time I've been here. The first time I went here the receptionist told me that they accepted cards on weekends when apparently they don't. I asked to speak to the manager and they had me waiting for over 2 hours before I could finally start my hair with my desired hair style. Today was the second and last time I'll be going there. Originally booked an appt at the first location because of the reviews however when I called two days before to confirm to find the person I booked with doesn't do the style I requested. The receptionist was sweet enough to book me at the second location with the correct stylist for 11am. I arrive about 7 minutes before my appt. and end up having to wait about that length of time before the receptionist can seat me because she as booking an appt. on the phone. Okay cool understandable. She tells me there will be a wait but not how long of a wait because my stylist is running behind on her first client. I look over to see that my stylist has another woman in her chair with only a third of her hair done. Can somebody please explain why you would book an appointment...so close behind a crochet braid style? I know how service industry works and things happen but why you wouldn't give your next client a courtesy call to let them know there would be such a long wait ? Please don't believe the hype on instagram. DO NOT BELIEVE THE HYPE. I can honestly say will never step foot into this establishment and I wouldn't recommend wasting your money here. 40 minutes went by before my stylist introduced her self and told me she would be another ten minutes. Prior to that there was no check in from the receptionist or introduction to my stylist. I haven't felt this uncomfortable in an establishment in such a long time. I booked an appointment online with Star about a week ago. I received multiple confirmations that star was my going to do my hair. I got to the salon about a minute early as my appointment was @2 and I live around the corner. They say me in a chair and told me that my stylist was on lunch. I was annoyed but okay. I saw my stylist moving around but whatever. The lady at the front desk started blowing my hair and then my stylist took over to finish the rest. Let me start my saying I only wanted 5 stitch braids. Well as my stylist finished blowing my hair another customer entered and the owner took my stylist out my hair and gave her to the new customer. The person she gave to do my hair Gloria was there the whole time folding towels. So essentially Gloria could've just did my hair the whole time instead of waiting almost an hour. Then she spent forever I feel like parting my hair. She parted the tip section first and then the back. Okay fine. Then as we get on the 3rd braid I noticed it's leaning I commented she pulled it out no problem but then I notice my part looks off I mentioned it. She said something about moving scalp. Okay and then proceeds to ask the lady at the front desk to come over and explain. it was a small piece that needed to be added in and I felt like my stylist had an attitude about taking that braid out again and adding it. The front desk was good about it and I appreciated her ability to rectify that situation. My hair came out nice however, they never even cut the strays along the hair in the back. If I realized when I was in the shop I would've said something but that irked me. I found this place on Instagram and I was really impressed with their work. Booked my appointment and they told me Lessy would be doing my hair. The look I asked for was the butterfly braid. It started off good but ended crazy. She braided my hair first and I'm thinking she would braid the weave into my hair. She sewed the weave onto my hair. Then she takes the weave and cuts it half way through. Didn't tell me she was cutting it and it looked like she cut my hair. She continues the sew in and braids the rest of the hair down. I told her my hair was sticking out the weave and she didn't respond, she proceeds to continue. I said again that my hair was showing and she just tucked it in. I paid and left. Now that I'm home my hair keeps coming out. Its unfair to pay money and be asked for a credit card up front and get service like this. I spoke to the manager and she offered me to come back and get it fixed. Why would I want to come back? I had an event to attend that night and I didn't want anyone else touching my hair. I like the Church Ave location, spacious and clean. I arrived on time to my appt and was seen right away. I got medium box braids done. Came out well, although I believed the braider could of been nicer to the helper (the girl who was finishing the ends. Just talk to ppl nicely especially in a professional setting, but anyway the reason I gave 3 stars is because their card/cash policy.... I went on a Friday afternoon... and when I was done was told they dont accept credit card that day... wtf? I booked my appt online, you took a deposit and yet you dont take this same card for payment? Okay you guys have an ATM at the location... but OUT OF SERVICE ... now Im getting annoyed. I ask the receptionist now what? "You can go next door and use the ATM at the supermarket"... I go next door and the ATM at the supermarket dont dispense more than $100 per transaction. So I got charged two transaction fees. With Apple pay, google pay, cash app, zelle etc The "we dont take credit cards on certain days" really annoyed me. I was recommended to this place to get some butterfly braids done. The young lady who did my braids on Saturday was very pleasant. However the day after ,my braids began to unravel. I returned on Monday to have them fixed. Another young lady proceeded to fix my braids without a charge. Here I am ... the next day (Tuesday) and a little pissed because the braid is again unraveling. I really wanted to like this place. But $75 for 2 braids and I can't enjoy the style because I'm constantly trying to push the hair back into the braid. It looks tacky. I did see other styles that turned out beautiful. I called to find out about the knotless braids and when there was an available appointment. The first time I called I was put on hold for 5 minutes to which I hung up and called back, the young lady addressed my by name saying she didn't forget me and put me on hold for another 5 min and did not returned, I heard the entire conversation about a child by the name of Amari. I was really looking forward to getting my hair braided however after the lack of service and blaintant disregard for their customer I came off the phone and contacted another company who was more than helpful and far more courteous. What was even more sad was that the staff member who answered the phone don't realize that she just lost a customer it is not about money for in sure they have a large clientele but it was about rapport and company reputation.
