You know how nerve racking it can be to go to a new stylist, right? Well, this place not only welcomed me with huge, loving, open arms, but made me feel like family, including the cute puppy Tom! I contacted Magical Shears in a bit of panic, needing a new stylist - really because I waited to long to get me hair updated and the person I usually go to was just too busy. The owner Janelle got back to me within an hour of me texting and sent me to her incredibly talented and very cool stylist, Aly. Avoid this salon at all costs. There are plenty of other nice salons in the downtown Dana Point district. Horrible service, poorly trained stylists, expensive for the quality. If you do decide to book, make sure you are very clear with them with what you want. In town for business and scheduled a blowout with specific instructions to blow and flat iron straight. I have this done all the time back home and during my travels. Easy request. Not here!! It took 75 minutes, left with frizzy flyaway hair that I needed to straighten myself back at hotel. $65 and my hair looked better before. The kid didn't even know how to blow dry hair. Not only did she trim my hair, she manage to touch up my roots, covering my greys & get the color I wanted. I am truly amazed & love the location of the salon. Beautiful, quaint & relaxing set up. I just called Genie to schedule and appointment, and I've never spoken to someone who provides service so rude! First of all, she has a Groupon advertised for balayage highlights. My hair is already light, and she explained to me if there's anything else that needs to be corrected it's an extra fee. That's not a problem, I just wanted to schedule an appointment. She went on and on about how it's going to be all these fees and she hasn't even seen me yet basically scolding me for even calling her. I asked her if I could just get regular partial highlights and she told me maybe again. Note to Genie: if your advertising on Groupon and don't want to give a discount, take your advertisement down and don't be so rude. Your anxiety went from 0-100 in just a phone call, I can't imagine what a 2 hour appointment would be like.
