A fun extra for my kids to play around with while staying at Great Wolf Lodge. It gives the kids a break from the water park but still gives them something engaging to do while burning off some energy. 4 levels of climbing stairs and netting and then sliding down multi-story slides really tired the kiddos out. Some tips and tricks: I got some Magiquest wands second hand for a fraction of the price and they worked just fine with the this game. We just paid to activate the game and jumped right in. You can also pick up where you left off so play at your own pace. We spent about 5 hours to get though everything, so worth the admission price. Fun and unique experience! read more

Cool experience for my 8 year old son. He loved using his wand to find all of the treasures throughout. It was a little expensive, but it was included in our Wild Pass for Great Wolf Lodge. I'm not sure I would have paid the $40 per kid had it not been included. I didn't like the fact that you had to give your kid's name and birthday to access their wand. But they assured us it's only used for the game and not solicitation. However they will be in the system for any future games and won't have to start at the beginning again. This place is semi wheelchair accessible. There are 4 levels but the elevator only takes you to level 2. Most items are on level 1 & 2. The forest is on level 3 and there are a few items that have to be found on that level. I believe level 4 is slides and ropes to play on etc. Oh and 3 hours in we asked how long this should take.... they told us 3-6 hours! Only 2 more adventures left. We have done the Magiquest at the Great Wolf Lodge in Mantecca California. So ehen we were visiting family in Wisconsin we decided to stay at GWL again, and my child was excited to be able to do Magiquest again. I was happy to see that it was different style version of the game plus there was Shadowquest. We were also able to use the same wand as our last adventure that we made sure to bring along. My daughter loved it and I think she spent more time at Magiquest than she did at the waterpark running up and down the stairs and going down slides casting spells. The building is old and the game is not super fancy or challenging, and a lot of the climbing structure was unfortunately closed. But she had an absolute blast the whole time she was there. Everytime we stopped by to play during our stay at GWL I saw nothing but kids and adults running around casting spells enjoying themselves as well. read more

Very fun game to play and wear out the kids by going up and down the levels. It's nice that you can leave and come back later to play more. Unfortunately, there was several climbing areas that were closed off and several clues that made no sense. Perhaps they did at one point but some things were not in a chest as claimed. read more

This was a great, magical experience. There is some reading involved, so younger kids have to work together with their parents, but in a fun way. The light is kept dim, which creates a neat ambiance, but it can be hard to read the book in some areas. Bring a cheap flashlight or headlamp to make it easier. The staff is friendly and in character. You can go to them if you need a hint. The only thing keeping it from being five stars is that some physical structures are blocked off pending repairs. This can make it harder to complete some of the later challenges and takes away from the experience. read more

Okay, so let's preface this review by saying I am no gamer. I am not a follower of magicians or elves or fairies. Just a mom, who went with my 6 year old and her cousins while visiting the water park next door. The staff in the office were friendly, but I find the whole concept and the signage confusing. But, in a nutshell, games are roughly $14 a person and you also have to purchase a wand for anywhere from $15-18. And the "toppers" cost an additional amount. While it is fun to do "quests" and "adventures" (I.e. virtual scavenger hunts that you run around 4 floors collecting ruins by pointing your wand at the item), there are some technical issues. For starters, it wasn't even that crowded and it was still a wait to do certain things. Also, it's so flipping hard to hear some of the machines!! Flat out, ear pressed against the thing to hear what it told you. Also, there's no map, per se. You can see signs on each floor saying Whispering Woods is up, but there's nothing in the little booklet you're using as your "key." Additionally, sometimes the riddles in the booklet refer to them as something else (ex. Wall says Whispering Woods, but booklet says "Whispering maze." Anyway, long story short - hard to hear and confusing. Another criticism, if you will, they don't have employees wandering around the 4 floors. If you need help, you have to book it down to the office and find the 1-2 people there. Total inconvenience and not very helpful at all. Kids liked it, me not so much. read more

We finally made our way into MagiQuest! Of course, you pay up front to get started- pay for the game itself, wand to play the game and activation of the wand? I believe. Naturally, there is well-placed accouterments that your children will love! Lol. I had a good time playing this game! As did my husband! My kiddo enjoyed it at first, but once he realized that the game was repetitive, he lost interest. In all honesty, this is a repetitive game! But it gives you and your family something to do indoors aside from the water rides. This is especially benefical if you visit Great Wolf Lodge in the winter. Last year we took the family to MagiQuest in Myrtle Beach. We really enjoyed it, but ran out of time. Literally. There, you buy minutes, which puts a lot of pressure on you to get your adventures in. With our stay at Great Wolf Lodge, our time lasted as long as our stay, which was great! We could come and go as we pleased without feeling pressure of having to do everything at one time. MagiQuest is connected to Great Wolf Lodge. You can go there on your own (without staying at the resort), or do it as part of your stay. Having already bought the hardware, it was only about $13 for each kid to participate. We headed down there right after checking in, knocked out a few quests, then hit the water park. MagiQuest is open until 11pm while the waterpark closes at 9pm. Once we were done with our watery activities, we changed into dry clothing and finished our night with a few more quests. The next morning, the younger of my two was up early, so I took him out for his last two quests - the two that take you through Great Wolf Lodge. When we got back, everyone was up, and he took the older one out to catch up. We then checked out and hit the waterpark for the several hours. When finished, we went back one last time to MagiQuest to battle the dragon. My intention wasn't to give you my timeline of our vacation, but more to show how great it is to feather in MagiQuest with your stay at Great Wolf Lodge. While not as big and detailed as the Myrtle Beach location, it was pretty good - sporting four levels (yes, more stairs!) as well as two quests over at the lodge. Even my 15-year-old was able to let loose and have fun. Heck, as the dad, I enjoy solving the puzzles and finding all the stuff too! The employees were all excellent - great customer service! They were happy to help when we had any questions or problems. The place was clean and well-run. I probably wouldn't bring kids that are TOO young - I saw a few screaming toddlers that just ran around waving their wand, mad that "it wasn't working". You'll want to consider your kids' patience before committing to the costs here. One note: They have some fun climby-ropey things and slides to play on - giving kids other ways to change levels (besides stairs). Guests can play on those without a MagiQuest purchase, I guess (so says the front desk). read more

Fun one time experience. Went here mainly for my 8 year old who is big time into magic and video games. The experience was a fun one getting to choose his own wand and magic topper. Being a first timer it was kind of complicated trying to figure out how things worked, and my sons wand stopped working twice which was frustrating. Not to mention we were told that in order to finish a mission would be 4 hours! WOW! That's a lot for a little kid. The structure itself was pretty awesome with lots of things to climb on lots of slides and hidden passageways. All in all we had a great time here :) read more

Great activity for both kids and adults! This was our first time coming to a MagiQuest, so can't compare it to other locations. It was around $100 for three "wands" plus game play. My husband and I took turns completing the "quests ". We were there for well over four hours and didn't finish. The wands can be used at other locations and new quests, so cost isn't too bad. The atmosphere could be a bit more authentic and elevator only goes up to the 2nd level which could be an issue for anyone with physical limitations. Overall, a great time! read more

Stop staring at me. I'm a nerd okay? A big nerd girl who plays video games and likes fantasy novels. I read comic books and play RPG's. I'm telling you to stop staring! IT WAS AWESOME OKAY!? Magiquest that is. I loved it. I mean at first it pissed me off. I couldn't figure out wth I was supposed to do, and the wands are very touchy. You need to be mostly accurate in your 'casting.' We had never been there and it was something new to do in the Dells. We're big Wizard Quest fans so we decided to check this out. It was in the local newspaper and all of that but none of the ticket sellers knew much more than that. So it was a mystery...I was even more determined to go there. Apparently there are multiple locations (somewhere dispersed in the world, or at least the U.S. I don't know Asia or Europe's views on real world RPG's you know.) The wand they give you (which you buy for approximately 15 bucks, twenty something if you want a 'prettier' wand, does the same thing. I got the traditional wood colored one. My sister grabbed a silver. She's totally like that you know.) gets activated and then you use it to swish in front of censors all over the place in order to complete quests. That's your wand forever. You can pick up where you left off at ANY Magiquest location. When you finish quests you get awards and are alloud to do more quests and get these charm awards that you can use toward other quests (and gold, lots of gold). There's probably enough to do that you could spend at least a year every day in there doing quests. (If not longer, and that's just saying they don't expand the quest range or the facility.) Which would throw you into bankruptcy of course and then you'd have to hide in Magiquest after they closed for the night for your lack of housing. (Unless you're in Texas. I believe they let you keep your house there when you're bankrupt.) Magiquest is a lot like a giant RPG that you play without having to be dressed up. In a big building. With a giant tree in the middle and a Wizard that guides you to your quests and gives you your rewards. Remember playing in the balls at Chuck E Cheese? Crawling over obstacles at Discovery Zone? Think that kind of place, but on a much bigger scale. You can FIT in the tubes and on the nets and when you're running around you're getting the work out you've been missing out on while you've been on vacation. I was sweating, and totally BEAT an hour and a half in. (No, I'm not a giant fatty thank you. But even a giant fatty can play here comfortably I believe.) You can pay for a 2 hour game, or for an entire day. They have different rates for different play times. There is no pause though so don't spend the money for the day if you won't be playing all day. When I started playing I almost wanted a refund. The wand didn't work right, I didn't know what I was doing and I was losing time on my account (which you can check by checking in with one of the elemental peeps on different floors). As I started to figure it out even my dad got into it with me. If you're not a climber or a tumbler there ARE stairs. My sister is younger than I am and she preferred the stairs as to save time and accomplish more. I continued to tell her that using the jungle of shoots and ladders was much more fun. Pfft, kids. Honestly, it really doesn't look like you can spend even 2 hours there without running out of things to do. But dear me, you'd be mistaken. Another thing you should take into account is the SLIDES! Dude, they have slides that are 4/5 stories high and you go down (no shoes please! and if you're wearing long pants it'll be an easier ride down) and you FLY like a rocket. I was scared for my life the first time I went down one. And then I couldn't stop it was just too exhilarating. Oh come on don't roll your eyes. You have to try it. On the whole boring technical side of things...the staff is a bunch of dressed up geek ass teenagers and a couple of them don't know what the hell they're talking about when they try to explain it to you. They have a very pretty gift shop that I wanted to get all manic in and buy up. And they also have a snack/food area. There are also big areas for dungeon type things to do :D. That should probably go somewhere else in this review, but you know, it spices up this part. Overall, little kids may have a hard time trying to crawl around the play areas, its honestly more for bigger kids and adults. However they can enjoy this family friendly game. So can adults, so can anybody really. If you like a little fantasy break from real life, check out Magiquest. Noooobody in there is judging you. It's a community effort to kick ass! Be prepared to lose your children! My oldest wanted to play the game, my youngest went into a fit over the maze of slides. Maybe I watch my children too closely, but I nearly had a coronary trying to keep up with them in this place. I left exhausted, but they haven't stopped talking about it since we left! There are 4 floors, and no way to know who went where once they get out of your sight. Be prepared to get a lot of exercise, as you walk up and down stairs trying to follow the clues or track down your kids. My 9 year old needed a little help playing the game, but didn't really want it. Either it's better suited for older kids, or he was just too excited to focus.... thus wandered around, back and forth, up and down stairs a lot. The doors aren't guarded, so it's not a place I would feel safe just letting them run loose. However, they both enjoyed every minute of it. Of all the things they did in the Dells this is the only one they talk about, and the reason they're bugging me to go back as soon is school is out for the summer. They loved MagiQuest more than Chuck E Cheese, Monkey Island, Knucklehead, and Legoland combined. For my boys, MagiQuest is seriously a big deal! read more

Great for wandering minds. Would not recommend for kids under 12 unless they are just wanting to have fun waving a wand around pretending to be a wizard. You have to be patient with the wands. Sometimes pointing them 4-5 times or for 4-5 seconds for it to register. If you're patient and have a couple hours (or 4+), it is fun to get your kids into roleplaying games and it keeps them moving (climbing stairs, running around)...better than sitting in front of a TV screen. Downside is waiting for other kids top complete adventures. More parts that require patience. read more

We loved Magi Quest!! We purchased a Paw Pass with our stay at the Great Wolf, which allowed us a free game and free wand during our stay. We spent so much time at Magi Quest, it really helped keep my kids entertained. Like Jasmin said, be prepared to get a lot of exercise trying to keep up with your kids and going back and forth between the levels to complete the quests. They also have hotel quests that you can complete in addition to the quests inside Magi Quest. It was well worth the money. I would definitely go there again, and recommend it. read more

Fun place for lots of different ages. Kids will love running around and zapping different things with their wands. Lots of quests will keep them busy for hours. One game lasts for 96 hours (4 days), so it's a great place for a return visit. A second game, shadow quest, can be played with the same equipment. Some quests are in the great wolf grand lobby, connected internally through hotel hallway. The paw pass at great wolf includes a game and a wand. read more

Loved it at first, but my wand kept not working. It's a Saturday with one worker! Seriously? I stood in line two different times for a total of over an hour of wasted time. I had to wait behind long and slow lines just getting registered to simply have my wand reset which takes a whopping 10 seconds!!!! So frustrated considering the cost. The fun I was having just disappeared. I'm so ticked off right now. I will never recommend the WI Dells location to anyone!!!! read more

My kids had both seen YouTube videos of people playing Magiquest, so of course this was a must-do for us while staying at the Great Wolf Lodge. Unfortunately I read some reviews ahead of time that said that the wands didn't always work well and the game was lame, so I was really nervous whether it would be as cool as my kids were expecting it to be. My 4 and 11 year old (and me and my husband) all enjoyed playing and spent over 4 hours here completing quests. The guy in the gift shop advised that our 4 year old would be too young to play, so we only bought one wand for the whole family to use. In the end I wish I had bought a wand for my daughter too because with my help reading some of the clues to her, she could play just fine. She even found many of the items before the rest of us did. As for the wands not working, ours worked just fine even from across the room as some of the items must be claimed from farther away. The gift shop attendant did warn us not to take the wand on the slides as the static electricity could mess it up, so perhaps that's why some of the others had issues. I'm guessing we'll be back again in the future, if not to this one, others around the US. read more

Horrible experience. $70 for 2 kids. Wands don't work half the time. Directions and clues are tough for kids. There's an obstacle course and slides, but seems like the kids get stuck in them. My son said one of the slide smelled like pee inside. There's also no place comfortable for the adults to sit. All in all, I wouldn't recommend it. A waste of time and money. read more

Our first experience with MagiQuest was not a positive one at all. We stopped by the front store the night before we planned to do the Quest and talked to the staff member about it. He was very helpful in describing what the game was about and what was needed to play. I bought a wand for my daughter and the employee got it set up with her info and game name. He answered all our questions and described where to go the next morning to start. Then things went down hill. We arrived the next morning, my daughter very excited to start and wearing the free cape we got the night before for purchasing a 'Wand Topper'. Your first task is to collect 'Rune Stones' by following clues and pointing your wand at the clues when you find them. The sensors on the clues and the Tree work about 5% of the time. You'll notice all the kids frantically and futilely waving these wands as you look around the MagiQuest room. After about 20 or so shakes of the wand the clue/screen will recognize that you're there and speak to you. The room is so loud with all these monitors and kids and sound effects that you can't hear the clues at all. Your only hope of finding the next clue is to read the cryptic clue that is provided to you in your little wizard handbook they provide at the start. With about four floors to explore, the clues often send you to the wrong floor (or they tell you to go to a place that isn't listed on the floor descriptions posted) and the clue descriptions are so poor that you really don't know what you're looking for or even what floor it's on. So like another reviewer noted, you end up randomly shaking your wand as you wander, hoping to 'collect' the clues. Then back down to the main Tree to check your progress (if the Tree recognizes your wand at all). Once you collect all the clues, you're supposed to check in with a character to be awarded your Rune Stone. Unfortunately they don't tell you where the character is located. There are several monitors and each monitor can have more than one character, but none of the locations are labeled. So again, randomly checking each character location hoping you pick the right one after shaking your wand 20 or so times at each one. If your child isn't in tears yet, the "Hard" part starts after collecting all the Rune Stones. You need to go on Quests and defeat certain characters with different combinations of wand motions and spells. With the lack of functionality of the wands, this is an exercise in futility. There is a specific combination for each character that you have to randomly figure out. My daughter was so frustrated and next to tears, that my wife started looking up cheat codes online to make the suffering stop. The final dragon was so hard she went to the front desk to ask an employee how to defeat it. When we first started our Quest, we were told we'd easily finish in 2-4 hours. About 8 hours later my daughter finished and we all went back to the hotel room and collapsed in exhaustion and frustration. We won't be back. This could be vastly improved with technology improvements to the wands and sensors and perhaps headsets to hear the clues and block out the other noises around you. The clue book they give you at the start should be more accurate and descriptive for younger players and give better pictures of what you're looking for. Each station/character location needs to be labeled to give you a fighting chance at actually finishing. However, if you're into beating your head against a wall for hours at a time and enjoy non-functioning technology, this is the game for you. read more
