Magnolia Brewing has been around a long time, and I was glad friends who live nearby wanted to take me here. They have a small brewing area in the basement, but on the main level it feels more like an old restaurant. They have booths and tables all around; I love the big windows, and since it's on a corner you can watch all the people going by. They have a great menu of food; we had fish tacos (loved the beans), fries, and drinks. Our server was very friendly and super happy to help with dietary needs. I also had one of their beers, an excellent pale ale. Prices are reasonable for the quality. If you're expecting a brewery experience, this isn't it, but it's definitely a great option for drinks and snacks, or a full meal. read more

Where is the cask? You advertise it, yet didn't have it when we came in speciaifically for cask. Could someone please take two minutes and update your website? Seriously, if you don't have something make a note of that so people come in looking for something that you know you don't have. The smell in here is also very off putting. Smells like stale beer (yeah it's a brewery) but get this place cleaned up; there's no way I'd want to linger here, cask or no cask. Funny enough, this review is for lovers of root beer, like myself. Stopped in while exploring to have a pint and my sister noticed they had root beer floats (which I was joking about wanting one) I ended up, of course, trying the float and it was great!!!! The service can also be pretty slow, and they seem to forget about you once they've brought the food and drinks. We had some of the local brews (wheat beer, New England IPA to name a few) they tasted okay but not standoutish. We paired them with some appetizers that were on the pricier end for what you got. Even though it is a brewery they had recently added a cocktail program and revamped the food menu. I liked Magnolia Brewing in the Haight. I would visit again. There is a disclaimer: I have been the once, and it was prior to the change of ownership. From what I have read, however, the independence of the place is a positive development. Although this is a social media platform, and none of us presumably professional reviewers, I try to follow standards. So I am noting this is just a single experience, with a slightly different version of the establishment. We went with my niece and her husband. They are my age, which is to say middle aged would be generous (if it were that in a literal sense, we'd make it to about 120). They're from the Midwest. He's into home brewing, and he visits breweries everywhere they go. That is another point of reference. They are familiar, very much so, with this type of business. I'd say I've been on a half dozen brewery tours with my nephew-in-law, and I have to have been to two dozen brewpubs/tasting rooms. The beer was good, fine, worth the trip. I am writing about two other aspects though. The first is the food. I do not usually expect a brewery to have great food. I would come here to eat. They had some homemade sausage. It was tasty. We had only small plates. That sample persuaded me. The second is the ambiance. This is a neighborhood joint in an ideal sense. That is, some bars, straight up bars, are neighborhood bars not welcoming to those not from there. But the best of this type of place makes you feel at home. Even if they don't know your name, they have an attitude and the other clients create an atmosphere. As I write this, I am thinking I ought to go next weekend. read more

Located on iconic Haight Street, we found Magnolia Brewing's corner location inviting and a great watering hole stop when exploring the Haight. We got a flight, with the Montana (forgetting full name), Thunder, Dock of Da Bay, and the Juice Box seltzer. We enjoyed all of the beers but agreed that the Dock of Da Bay porter was our favorite, with its flavors of coffee, cacao and tobacco. We were also pleasantly surprised with the Juice Box seltzer, which was light but also crisp and flavorful. Guys...this place changed hands just about a year ago and man oh man...it's awesome! We mourned the loss of Sunset Reservoir Brew Company and have been looking for the same vibe (read: A brewery feel with better cocktails and food then they need to have). It was me, my husband, and our 3 year old (yes! It's kid friendly!). We ordered a smash burger, po' boy sliders, French fries, whipped feta dip, 2 cocktails, an orange juice, AND a bowl of ice cream. Our bill was $100. I know that's not a small amount of money, but show me somewhere in ALL of SF with a good vibe, fabulous staff, very delicious food, excellent cocktails that's kid friendly where you can eat with 3 people for under $100. Onion rings are the only reason I come here to be truthful. I have yet to try any of the other items of the menu but this really hits the spot after a long shift. Served with a crisp light Mexican lager... I couldn't ask for anything better. I should come back to try more but for now it'll be known to me as the house of the worlds crispiest onion rings. The interior is nice and spacious and they have a good selection of beer. We wanted to go to Cole valley for lunch (ended up being a mistake!) so we only got a drink and appetizer. Slightly pricey but nothing outrageous compared to alternatives. We also tried the beer flight, well maybe two actually, good night. Tried 8 different beers here and ALL of them were pretty nice! I dont think youll go wrong here trying out a flight. The coffee based beer really hit the spot Service was good, attentive to us. However one thing to note which was a big annoying is they limit you to one drink item per order. Magnolia Brewing provides a "normal" clean, calm, and chill place to get some above average American grub with standard San Francisco prices. Friendly service, albeit a bit slow, but that's because its 2023 with labor shortages all over. $20 Cheeseburger...its a $20 Cheeseburger, pretty good, not amazing, but tastes extraordinary when you've been drinking from 7:30am to noon. $17 Two Sausage Board...one bratwurst, one andouile, both incredibly delicious with fragrant scent of spices and herbs infused in the meaty and fatty sausages. Came with a nice side of kraut, but for this price I was hoping for some extra bread or fries. I would never write a negative yelp review because I understand there are days that are off and there are days that are on. I also recognize that the person who is writing this may be the person I am providing feedback on as I think he is a manager. First off, Ive been coming to Magnolia for many years - I've lived in Cole Valley, NOPA and now Lower Haight since 2000. In the last 5 years Magnolia has been part of my Sunday routine. I go to Amoeba to buy records and come to Magnolia for food and a drink afterwards. I've always had a pleasant experience. Today felt different. There was a couple spread across the bar who said they'd move over so my husband and I could sit. Once I tried to make room for a seat, the employee yelled "we need this space for people to walk through!!" The other couple was moving their seats over and there was no intention to block the walk way- I've worked services jobs and I completely understand the need for this. That said, the person yelling this was much larger than me, definitely over 6 feet, and as person who is 5'4, this was extremely jarring and intimidating. It would have been much more reasonable to say "hey, can you keep the chairs as is? We need to keep them out of the way for the staff." Of course I would have said yes absolutely. This experience has left such a sour taste in my mouth and I'm really disappointed. I always enjoy Magnolia as part of my routine but this just isn't the experience I expect. I'm not asking for anything, I don't want anything, I just wanted to pass along my experience. Likely won't be coming back. read more
