I did not want this experience to end! Every bite was delightful! The Magnolia salad includes Mixed Baby Greens, Grape Tomatoes, Mandarin Oranges, Boiled Eggs & Parmesan Cheese. As a native of Natchez who has dined at this establishment dozens of times over the course of several years, I can assure you that I will never step foot in this establishment ever again. The servers are amazing, but the lack of consistency cannot be overlooked. I ordered the redfish, my favorite dish, which I have had over a dozen times. The portion of fish I received recently, was pathetic ($34.95). I explained to the server that this was not what I expected, given that I had just had the same meal a few days ago, and was dismayed to see such a vast difference in portion. Our server addressed the kitchen (apparently there is no manager on site to resolve issues and the proprietors are never there) with our concern, and told us, more or less, that the size of the fish was what it was and they couldn't do anything about it. I reiterated that I have ordered this exact dish several times and this was literally half the size. I'd suggest going to Roux 61 which has fresh fish and values consistency- something this restaurant doesn't seem to consider. read more

Literally an amazing find! First, DESTINY, the hostess/our waitress/the queen of recommendations, deserves a shout out. So friendly, so knowledgeable, and so very efficient. Food was excellent! The magnolia shrimp was amazingly light. Flavors great. Shrimp cooked perfectly. Hubby got redfish and we were wolfing things down before I got a picture. But it was good. The side salad was a meal. The Sausage Rotel dip was very good as well, and the other dishes ordered at our table - shrimp and grits, chef Caesar salad, bacon cheeseburger, bread pudding - all delicious. Definitely the best dining experience I had on vacation. Our bed and breakfast guy highly recommended the place and he didn't steer us wrong. We dined in the window enclosed space that looks out on the water. A bit of a history with the place - it was constructed in the early 1900's. Inside they have a long story on how the creation of the term 'Bowie Knife' came to be with knife fights occurring around the area in the 1800's. For our apps we split the sausage rotel cheese dip and the fried green tomatoes. I was insistent on the cheese dip mostly because I was already inebriated at the time and melted cheese and sausage sounded like everything I wanted in life. Fried green tomatoes are also one of my favorite things that exist on earth next to fried pickles but also these were also highly recommended by our lodging host. The tomatoes are like the thickest I've ever seen in any place in my life and they're delicately battered, slathered in a Louisiana hot sauce hollandaise, and covered with both crawfish and shrimp. I can't emphasize enough on how phenomenal these were. I finally found tomatoes that are even better than Mama Dips in North Carolina. Entrees we kind of just pooled together what we all wanted and split everything. We went with the bbq shrimp, the duck breast, and the Catfish Briars. My personal favorite was the catfish that's topped with shrimp, mushrooms, and a parmesan like crust. Decadent but with still tasting the freshness of the fish. The sides of grits were also really great and the vegetables were fresh and crisp. The loaded baked potato was really good but a horrible idea as I became way too full midway through eating. Entire experience was great but service was a bit slow. I think they only had maybe one girl for our entire area and it was packed that night. Also, a weird situation happened. A water glass flew off the table on its own and shattered. They joke that the place is haunted and it occasionally happens. What can I say? The deceased love me. Anyway, after the staff joked about the broken glass they didn't clean it up and I was wearing sandals so it seemed kind of dangerous for it to be left there. We inquired again to it and they insisted they would clean it up after we finished eating. I can't dock a star for a really stupid situation like this because the food was that phenomenal. But just wanted to give a heads up in the future for other customers. Also, another helpful thing would be to list the beers on tap/bottle on the menu (only saw a wine menu) because I feel the waitresses couldn't remember half of what they even have to drink. read more

If you ever find yourself in Natchez...and trust me, you need to go to Natchez...know that this town is no food lovers paradise. Go to Natchez for the antebellum homes, the views of Mississippi River and the history. Don't get me wrong, the food is good at most of the restaurants, but it's not going to knock your socks off. Especially if you're from or live in New Orleans. That being said, this is the best resturant in Natchez for a few reasons. The food here is better than most places. The service is friendly and prompt. The view of the Mississippi River is amazing. Amazing. Ask to sit in the back room if possible. It's tiny but the windows are floor to ceiling. The Magnolia Grill is a great place to get a burger in Natchez. I am a pretty simple guy. When I order a burger, I don't need any fanciness. Cook it properly and add some cheese and I'm good. Magnolia does just that, plus they have an incredible view of the bridge and river. When driving through Natchez to take photos, I was in the mood for a burger. Yelp sent me to Magnolia and after some faulty gps directions I found it. The view as I walked up to the restaurant was incredible. I love the Mississippi River and that view was amongst the best I've seen. It's so different from the view in Nola because the land is so much higher than the river. Even though I was hungry I could have sat and watched the river for hours. The restaurant has a sign explaining it was near the sight of the famous "sandbar fight" involving Jim Bowie. That's right, the dude with the giant knife. No, not crocodile Dundee, the other dude. If you're unfamiliar with the fight, you should read about it. I did while I was at the restaurant and learned what a badass Bowie was. That alone made the trip worthwhile. Besides learning about American bad assets, I also had a pretty good burger. I opted for their blue cheese burger which, not surprisingly came with blue cheese. The burger was cooked a perfect medium and the tanginess of the cheese complimented the beef very well. We checked in after 730 and there was a 30min wait so it was a busy night which is very common here. It was a holiday weekend also. We sat out front on a bench looking at the poppy flowers and the sunset over the view of the river. Not too shabby! The waitress said they had been slammed all day but she was still smiling and was quite nice. Chose to go basic and got the magnolia burger with sweet potato n grilled zucchini. The burger was big, well seasoned and grilled perfectly. Baked sweet potato was ok and the zucchini was delish. Unfortunately they were out of pie because it had been such a busy day. By the way you could sorta see it on the faces of the wait staff. The hostess would step over when no one was at the door and wrap new sets of silverware in napkins for maybe 30seconds before someone would be at the door again. After I asked about the service charge again, this time I was told by one of their employees, "it's only like $3, don't worry about it." A very disappointing experience. We got shipped to the bar to wait and probably had 5 servers walk right by us and go back and forth to the bar. We waited for at least 8-10 minutes before ever being asked if we wanted something and only after I asked two different servers if we could order a drink. They finally called our name and another patron sat down at our table. The hostess wouldn't ask her to move so I did. The woman wouldn't leave the table. So we were going to have to wait again. Other patrons stood by the door waiting for tables and no one was helping them. The patrons who were already at tables were sitting waiting and it was clear no food was coming out of the kitchen. And they weren't being served. It was total chaos and none of the servers seemed to care. And if there was a manager around, it was evident she/he was not in control and doing their job. So we sent our wine back and left. And won't be back. Not worth the hassle. read more
