My wife and I both had shrimp poboys. The poboy was fantastic, although I think I would prefer smaller shrimp as the large shrimp kept falling out of the bread - to each his own. The fries, as easy as they are, were a bit undercooked. The server was nice enough. The wait was long and he was busy so we did get a free dessert. We really enjoyed our meal here at Magnolia. The waitress deserves 5 stars. She was so nice and friendly and offered solid recommendations. She was a sweetheart with my daughter. We arrived very close to closing time and she accommodated us and we didn't feel rushed to finish our meal although she sat down with us to take our order because she was so tired. (We found this cute!) The food was delicious- shrimp and grits, BBQ shrimp, and fried green tomatoes. The veggie sides were bursting with flavor!!!! Very good meal. I gave my 4 stars because the woman that seated us was really tired and when I asked if there was a space to see the river she said no, it was all inside. Came here for dinner while visiting Natchez. This is Avery nice restaurant right on the river. Service was friendly and helpful. Food was good and they had gluten free options, although the menu was not well labeled. The air conditioner was blasting so we got very cold. Essentially ate and ran. The view was the best part. Unfortunately this was not really memorable from a food perspective. No major issues but also nothing super special to mention. we stopped by for lunch while visiting natchez. we were promptly seated even though it was hopping! we began with fresh cocktails and i have to say my bloody mary was great! for starters i had the french onion soup and my friend had the shrimp and crab bisque. those delicious soups were followed up with a Cesar salad for me and shrimp po boy for him. each item was fresh and served just as requested. there is a lovely glasses in side seating area that allows for great river views. unfortunately, that area was fully seated so we sat in a traditional dining area full of history. great choice when in natchez! read more

We had lunch here under the hill as we have many times in the past. It took a few minutes to get a table clean but not out of the ordinary for lunchtime. Once seated we ordered wine and an appetizer of crab-stuffed mushrooms. We noticed that tables around us that were seated after us were receiving their appetizers while we still waited, but soon we did receive our mushrooms. The dish appeared over-cooked and dried up as though they had sat for a while before being brought to our table, they were barely warm. We ordered a fried shrimp dinner with a side salad and a fried shrimp po boy. The server forgot the salad and the tartar sauce and my po boy bun was charred, aside from that the meal was good and the portions were ample. Our server was either overwhelmed or distracted and we picked up a drama vibe from the wait staff in our area so don't know if that was a contributing factor. Didn't want to wait 40 minutes for a table, so we sat at the bar. The staff was pleasant and very busy. We watched each wait staff also bartender their own tables! Impressive! Enjoyed crawfish etoufee on blackened catfish. Etoufee needed more crawfish in it. We thought it was good, but we liked Roux 61 better. Definitely get the bread pudding!!!! My dinner choice while working in Natchez was The Magnolia Grill. This place is known all across Mississippi. Friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. Very extensive menu. The Salad with ranch was topped with mandarin oranges. At first I questioned this choice, but, when adding salt and fresh ground pepper......wow! It was perfection in flavors. Brilliant! I had the Redfish with Southern Sweet potato fries. This was a huge platter of food. Very well prepared and loads of flavor. I went to Magnolia Grill with my mom and toddler niece. Although we had an issue of the "terrible twos" and ultimately had to cut our visit short (!), I had a great experience there. Staff was friendly and understanding of our fussy toddler while we were in the restaurant. They even put a rush on the grilled chicken and broccoli we ordered from the kid's menu. My seared tuna salad (arugula, grape tomatoes, and raspberry vinaigrette) was delicious. It was cooked perfectly medium and seared nice and crispy. I would return for a full meal here! read more

I had to remove a star because the plate did not come with lump crab meat, when I asked about it the waitress made me check the menu and show her that the dish came with the lump crab meat! She should have taken the customer's word, and/or knew what was on her own menu. She finally brought a side order of lump crab meat, but I would have paid full price without the crab meat if I hadn't asked about it her excuse was that she put the order in wrong, but they have no option without the crab meat so how could it have been a wrong order? read more

First, I rarely write reviews on restaurants - unless the place is sooo awful. This place wasn't dangerous - not providing dangerous food, but it was so out of the mainstream of restaurants - especially given a superior location ... NOT GOOD This was just a VERY below average restaurant - one could make excuses, but none rise to the level of the failures in this place. "Chef Salad with Grilled Chicken" - bagged croutons (not the expensive bagged which are kinda OK - I'm talking CHEAP bagged), tiny strings of bagged parmesan cheese, huge pieces of rough cut (think whacked at by a dull cleaver) overdone chicken, and absolutely awful pseudo-Caesar dressing. "Chicken Under the Hill" - entirely prepared MUCH earlier, maybe more than a day earlier - the "Hill" in the name relates to this area of Natchez - in the case of this chicken dish, it should be renamed something like, "Old Chicken Under a Really Small Hump in the Road." Tough chicken, tough really odd tasting asparagus (maybe grilled where they grilled other sorts of food - ya know, without hot wipe), VERY old baked potato perhaps baked several times then scooper out and mixed about a half pound of salt), the "Hump" part of the dish was CANNED mushrooms with tiny bits of something green, no taste - and a massive lukewarm wad of some cheese, maybe parmesan - that on service one could lift off by one strand of the packaged parmesan. I asked about oysters, but waitstaff said "not since COVID" - even though the menu with oysters was STILL ON THEIR WEBSITE! Yep - imagine being so out of touch that you have a website that is 2-3 years out of date - different dishes, different prices - AND - the website opens with part of the menu (dessert) under a very romanticized explanation of the restaurant's beginnings. Seriously, could a manager or owner go to sleep at night knowing this? Yeah - wait staff was always in a big hurry to sit by the entry door (note how handy the tall chair location is) with stacks of cutlery and other junk ... this was the entry where guests were greeted and table assignments occurred! So, given this restaurant's level - I would recommend the owner sell the restaurant (because the current owner must be complicit in this disaster), then the new owner could fire everyone, then start rehiring - hopefully hire a manager who has experience outside this little town and hopefully with some common food sense, then work with that new manager to hire appropriate food preparation staff - I mean, a CHILD could do a better job - and might question why everything was bagged vs fresh. I just don't understand how anyone would not immediately try and fix this mess. Oh yeah - 4% add for credit cards - I'm thinking so most would pay cash - so, they would not be able to contest the charge? Ewww .... read more

Exactly what I was dreaming of in Mississippi - delicious seafood and a perfect location on the river. What a great place - don't miss this one. Montrel greeted us and was so friendly and helpful. Katherine is a great waitress and very personable and sweet. I ordered the catfish Louisiane with Tasso grits. I have been enjoying and cooking grits for decades and these are hands down the best grits I've ever had. And the catfish smothered in shrimp etoufee. Wowza! My hubs had the perfectly battered and fried shrimp. The batter was so light and flavorful you wouldn't guess they were fried - not a trace of grease. We met a trio of characters/regulars who entertained us and gave us their 5 star local recommendations - all around great dinner. read more

A little wait with a lovely view. Well worth the wait. 3 in our party ordered filet. What an amazing flavor with no sauce. Our attentive waiter brought us the sauce. The meat was over the moon with or without the sauce. Our 5 year old ordered grilled chicken from the kid's menu. I cut his food and had a taste. Went about an hour and a half before close, as an event we had beforehand took a little longer than planned. We weren't seated, served, or gotten our food too quickly, but I hold nothing against those girls, as LSU and Alabama were tied in overtime and once again... we came in very late. We got the fried pickles, and the 5 of us absolutely DEVOURED the plate. It was a great portion, however.. too little ranch! But the pickles were INCREDIBLE!!!! An absolutely perfect mix of breading and pickle size. Combined with coming out hot and freshly fried! The gumbo was good, but nothing to write home about, I never even touched my bacon cheeseburger cause I was too full from pickles, the tuna(?) salad was said to have been really good and fresh, with a great portion! And the fried shrimp po-boy was MASSIVE with HOT and MASSIVE fried shrimp to accompany. I feel the pickles are what set it over a three star for me, truly. Magnolia Grill is a MUST! One of the best meals we have had! The wait on Saturday was about 40 minutes, but well worth it. We got the best table in the house at the corner of the patio. Everyone was so friendly and smiles all the time. Cody was our server and he was awesome. The place was super busy but Cody was always coming by the table and we never waited long for anything! We decided to eat appetizers as our main course and WOW, it did not disappoint. My wife and I had a cup of Gumbo each. Sooo good! We ordered the fried green tomatoes with shrimp and crawfish with a Cajun Hollandaise sauce. Very very good. We then had the stuffed mushrooms and they were phenomenal. The portions are large. We even ended up taking a small to go box, really wanted to eat more but couldn't. Also took out drinks to go and walked the bluff. This place is a must. You can call ahead and get on a waitlist. Wish we woulda done that but the 40 minute wait was fun walking into a local shop and watching the Mississippi barges and the river cruise paddle wheeler. They give you a huge bowl of soup loaded with goodies, this was without a doubt the best gumbo I've ever eaten ( including my own), you must try it but be warned you cannot eat a whole bowl. read more

Yesterday, Feb 18th, 2025, we happened to be in Natchez, MS for the day. We chose Magnolia Grill for a mid-afternoon lunch. Although the restaurant was practically empty at this time, they were open for business with several servers standing behind the bar chatting. We placed our order and waited and waited and waited for an hour! The waitress did come by our table bringing drinks and other condiments according to our order. Finally she comes back and says that due to a computer problem our order had not been placed. We were amazed no one had thought to actually walk to the kitchen and ask about the order. I mentioned that there seemed to be a management problem. Then another server came to the table to say it was not the server's fault, which is exactly what I had told the server. My husband asked her how many orders the kitchen had at this time. The answer was three! One would think with only three current orders someone would break off from the employee gabfest behind the bar and check the orders. The server offered us free dessert. But for the rest of our meal, ALL the staff was surly and acted as though we had done something wrong. At the end of the meal we asked for our two free desserts to be boxed to go. What came was ONE small sad piece of dessert with crumbled Oreos on top. I asked for a piece of the praline cheese cake that was listed on the daily special chalkboard. I was told that was not possible. We could only have one dessert. Obviously, we chose to forgo the dessert. The food was not bad but ALL the wait staff and cashier were surly and rude. As we were leaving yet another person came to clean the table and ask how our meal was, when my husband told her we would not be back because of the awful behavior even this person made a rude remark. That is the first time we have not left a tip in a restaurant. Obviously, Magnolia Grill needs new management and a new wait staff. They are a poor impression of Natchez hospitality and restaurants. read more

Everything about this restaurant went well. Even tho it was Labor Day weekend we were able to get a table quickly, we set out on the enclosed patio so we got to watch the Mississippi River traffic, the menu was varied from hamburgers to seafood all cooked and served well and the staff were very attentive without being overly so. Tight parking, arrive a bit early. Reservations a MUST for dinner times. Previous derogatory "Yelp" posts seem incongruent with the excellent food and service we experienced, and we went on a very busy Holiday dinner.
