However, while checking the live webcam, I couldn't find them anywhere. I watched the room count drop from four dogs, down to two, and then to zero. When I called to ask where they were, the staff told me my dogs had been moved to an unmonitored room with a Yorkie. This made no sense for two reasons: my dogs might not do well around smaller breeds, and two rooms with active cameras were sitting completely empty. Why move them out of view? Upon pickup, both of my dogs were panting heavily and looked visibly distressed. When I questioned the staff, they gave vague, evasive answers. As soon as we got to the car, my dogs frantically drank two full bottles of water--I have never seen them so dehydrated. After doing some research, I discovered that a dog tragically died at this facility last year from heat exhaustion and dehydration, which resulted in charges against the business. I am never going back, and I urge others to stay away.

Upon arrival, I was welcomed by the receptionist and my vet tech was wonderful and positive. My pup, Beau, isn't the biggest fan of vets (he's actually quite the opposite), so I personally dread this visit as much as he does because he gets so nervous and anxious, and I know it's quite a job to handle him. The experience I had at Needham and with Dr. Stephanie Crow was the best experience I've ever had with a vet. My last vet visit was a very poor one (at another establishment before I moved), so I was extra nervous, especially establishing at a new location. Stephanie walked in with the biggest smile on her face (especially after I knew Beau was likely difficult) and just loved him so much. She sat right there on the floor beside Beau with me, answered all of my questions, explained every medication to me, and made me feel right at ease. My boyfriend and I both were VERY pleased all around. The pricing was also standard for an animal hospital (and was actually a LOT cheaper than what I was used to at an establishment in Cary, NC before I moved). I'm pleased here. All of this to say, I am SO happy I established here. I know that they will take care of Beau (and my nerves) on every visit. It means the WORLD as a pet parent knowing that you're taking them to a place who loves them as much as you do! Highly recommend!!

Their website says they take pets with emergencies and yet they happen to not have any emergency staff today despite having plenty of staff ordering their morning Starbucks this morning. They get suggested I go to a pet urgent care down the road... which doesn't open for 4 more hours. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? If my dog had a life threatening emergency from an accident he would have been dead. My dog needed an emergency blood test to check for a fast moving infection and they pushed me away. You shouldn't be allowed to call yourself a "hospital" of any kind. I would have let it go if you had sent me somewhere that was actually open. What a disgrace.

I wanted to like the vet because it's so close to where we live and seems like a small practice. We originally came from a small practice in Charlotte and had a great experience. My girlfriend was reluctant to go to this vet. I should have listened to her. First the vet tech had such a flat affect it made me uncomfortable. Most importantly, the vet acted as this was an emergency. It was so emergent she was speaking so fast and barely let me speak. She heard me but didn't actually listen. Then I call the place they referred me to and they said they were gonna close in 30 min. Why send a referral out there if you knew it was going to close. If you didn't know about their actual times, own up to it. Don't give false hours. The worst part was the referral that was sent was just squinty eye. Not even close to lens luxation like they had kept telling me. Those are two different things. I was not impressed. And we will not be bringing the rest of our crew over there.

Sadly, that legacy has not continued. Since Dr. Highsmith's quiet retirement (with no formal announcement), the practice has changed dramatically. Long-time staff left, and the new team seems more focused on upselling than care. I was handed a thousand-dollar dental estimate after a vet told me it wasn't needed. Prescriptions now require in-person pickup, and I receive excessive marketing emails--sometimes 11 in a single month. Most disappointing: I sent a detailed letter 10/3/25 to the new owner, Dr. Crawford, expressing my concerns and offering a chance to respond. No one replied. If you value transparency, consistency, and genuine care, this may no longer be the right place. I truly hope they find their way back to the values that built their reputation. Apparently they are also changing the name at least thats good as it no longer reflects Highsmith's steller values.

They are the most skilled & compassionate caregivers that I have ever experienced, with 1 exception, the Emergency Vetinary clinic that is on a similar level. Great vet ER and great vet patient care by Highsmith Animal Hospital during the day. They have saved several of my dogs lives and treated our diabetic cat with grace until he passed. Thank you for all you do. Now, a new generation of puppy has been introduced to the staff.

Hi If you love you animals you should never go to this…read moreplace. I went because they are connected to Dr Wilson from the coutry vet clinic. I had my dog and three cats there from July 1 to July 10. When I went to pick them up I paid the bill and they put my cats into their cages. in my car and I went home. When I got home my dog kept crying all over the house and then I looked at my cat and he had been attacked my another cat there. His eye was infected and three scratches on his face. I took him to the vet the next day and he was put on three medications. THey never called me to tell me he was like this. The vet bill we over two hundred dollars pluse meds. I called them and the manage there said my dog was only let out three times to go to the bathroom. She was locked up and I was told never played with the other dogs. I paid them the dulex boarding for her. All that time she was in her cage alone. I also found out they use tazers on the dogs to. I had one that fell in my dog bag and thats how I new they did this. I still have it and pics of my cat to.
