This business was recommended by another business down the street. I had a nail in one of my tires. It was busy and there were many cars not only in the lot but in the business itself being worked on. The man at the front desk was professional and friendly. I could hear the technicians working on cars talking to each other. Really positive and upbeat. The technician who fixed tire came out with the nail to show me what caused the problem. Very friendly and helpful. I expected a long wait and was OK with that but they took my car in right away and fixed the tire. The whole thing was under an hour. Being a long time customer I will no longer carry any of my vehicles back there I had a very interesting exchanged with the manager/ owner if that's what he is took my car to get serviced for front rotors a oil change and tire rotation I was told they can't rotate my tires because they were bald which is a complete lie I just bought brand new tires several months before new not used but they were determined to tell me otherwise word of the wise you should never argue with with a customer about whether their tires were new or used then he proceeds to bring in the guy who worked on the car and tell me the same thing and just dismiss what I'm saying I will never take my cars back to them and I know several people who take their cars there. My 2016 Jeep Patriot has been serviced here for over three years. After a recent oil change , while driving the engine seized up no warning no oil light etc. took my jeep to Magothy auto was told I needed a new motor. Installed a new motor for over $4000. a week later, the vehicle was not running very well. Was told by George that now I needed $800 worth of other work motor mount etc. not under the warranty of the new motor. Two weeks later the car was running rough wouldn't go over 40 miles an hour took it back and was told that it was the transmission sensor. Took it to Glen Burnie transmission they said there was nothing wrong with the transmission after spending an additional $135. Then George the manager said it was the spark plugs and the coil that needed to be replaced gave them another $291.00. Took the car home same problem would not go over 40 miles an hour. Called and told George what was going on. He said they're mechanic had tested and , drove it and it was fine. Took a video of what it was doing. Came back in on Wednesday, 15 February leaving the Jeep again . Every time I drove by the lot I saw my jeep sitting in the same exact spot. Made several phone calls, and I was told by George that they are working on it and it was possibly the catalytic converter. I told him that you guys already replace that. today is Monday February 20th and no one has called me with any updates. My jeep is still sitting in the same spot. Called and I was told by the mechanic DJ he can't find anything wrong with it and we should take it to the dealer and that they can't fix it. Now we are planning on taking them to small claims court. Unbelievable how we were treated by George. Every time we came in he made us feel like we were inconveniencing him. He treats us like an annoyance. The worst' customer service I've experienced. Never communicating just taking our money now we have spent over $7000 on repairs. This review is my personal experience and every consumer should know. As most say if I could give a negative review I would. I'm having the jeep towed today and have told George how dissatisfied and I feel they are dishonest and have made up repairs just to elevate my bill. George never apologized or addressed any wrongdoing. Don't let this happen to you. I'm taking the Jeep to Cape Auto and will post updates. read more

We've used Magothy Auto for years and have only had positive experiences. My husband does a lot of our car maintenance and only brings our cars there for things he can't handle, like wheel alignments and tire mounting and balancing. His own car is there now for some work but he told George "no rush," which is always appreciated by them since they are usually packed with cars awaiting repair. The crowded parking lot alone says it all, since many other people trust their work to Magothy Auto. George has always been as nice as can be and we have never felt like we were overcharged. I needed to get my Maryland state inspection done which went fine, except for the fact that my car failed. The only problem I had was that the explanation of one of the problems was not very well thought out so it took a couple of tries for me to fix what I needed. Other than that one little problem everything seemed to go well, prices weren't bad and I was able to get everything done relatively quickly. read more

Little did I know! They never saw the bad tie rods, zip tied bumper and bad alignment. Why they did not mention this, I will never know. Now we are spending money to fix my car to pass inspection, money on things other than the ones they saw. They should have better inspection techniques. I will not use them again. The service managers and workers were pleasant, knowledgeable and seemingly unfettered by my gender, which in other auto services, seemed to present a problem. Well, been a long time customer 7+ years and keep coming back because I've never really had any issues when vehicle were repaired, however with their prices for Labor and Parts, I wouldn't expect to keep coming back. The national.average for technician trained and certified mechanics is between $80 and $90 per hour. Believe they are going up a it.but Magothy seems to be one one of the highest in the area. ($115-120) There main mechanic does a nice job and.ia friendly as well as the young man in the evenings... The real downer is their front line guy, face of the business. His attitude has changed over the years and just seems like an angry man. Not sure what's going on, but when your customers are opening up their wallets and dropping $1,000s of dollars, I would expect the manager to have better people skills. He's actually quite rude at times so it's actually makes ya not even want to engage him. Anyway, time to find a new place which isn't easy, but just not interested in dealing with the attitude any longer. Maybe he's been there too long and needs a long vacation. But why businesses don't focus on front line, customer friendly employees makes no sense. If you can deal with that, the work is usually good. read more

They couldn't actually fix my car because it was something that needed to be done at the dealership but they were so polite and didn't charge me a dime. Worst service I have ever encountered. They came highly recommended by a close friend but unfortunately my experience was less than satisfactory. Three separate days and $1800 later the very reason I took it in is still a problem. I took it in for a tune up, oil change, tire rotation, and the front end sounded loud and loose when going over bumps. They said I needed new spark plugs, gaskets, struts, and mounts. That was $1300+. I picked it up and the front end didn't change plus car pulled to the left. I had to leave it another whole day for them to decide what to do with it. Then they tell me that the left front tire only had 25lbs so they didn't check the pressure when they rotated the tires. And, now I needed both front upper control arms for another $475. So, in hopes of resolution, I agreed and left it for another day. Noise in front end has not changed and yesterday my engine light came on. I called and was told they couldn't look at my car until Thursday or Friday. I'd have been better off taking it to the dealership. read more

This used to be Colonial auto supply back int he day and that was a great place but those days are over and done with. I think the son of the original owner is still there and he sold off the colonial name but kept the location. Now its a mixed bag of nuts kind of place doing auto and boat repair as well as renting u-huals. Definitely don't rent a u-hual here because you will get a song and dance about how you can only keep it so long and you absolutely have to have it back buy a certain time because its reserved for someone else. then when you bring it back as they requested the place is closed and the truck sits for three days solid before they even move it. read more

Went in for a state inspection. Nice folks all around. My only problem, and one that will make me think twice about going back for other work, is that my wiper blades didn't pass inspection because they were "stuttering." I installed the wiper blades myself only a few months ago and they have never stuttered. I even used my wipers that very morning to wipe melting ice off my windshield with no stuttering at all. I can't verify that conditions in the shop didn't somehow make them stutter. I'm guessing shops don't make much money from inspections, so they were being super picky to find some minor repair that would be worth their while--wiper blades are an easy markup. I didn't argue, but simply asked them to clarify what the problem was. They did grease some parts for free and were quick and friendly, so I didn't make a fuss about paying too much for blades I didn't need. Overall, an average experience.
