Had an engagement party here the other night and everything went right. You wouldn't know from the outside but Mahoneys has the perfect private back rooms. After walking through the busy bar you enter a spacious private room that includes a bar and personal music system. Pat, the event coordinator, was amazing every step of the way, very helpful, knowledgeable and informative. The personal wait staff for the party was great, always around and ready. What I was most pleased with was the food. People always remember the food from the party and the food provided from Mahoneys and their kitchen staff was great. The penne vodka was flavorful and creamy and the chicken Marsala complimented it well. The party was around 60 people and we had plenty of food, people went up for 2nd and 3rd and we still had leftovers. And did I mention affordable?? Classic Irish bar and restaurant. Reminded me of the kind that used to exist in the Bronx and Yonkers years ago. They have an eclectic menu; with Irish classics of course, Mexican, Italian and American favorites. Our Server was Kelly. It was a slow Sunday afternoon. Down the block was a Oaxacan festival Guelaguetza; plenty of food there, but it was a hot and humid day and the food stalls added more heat. We thought why not get a cold beer in an air conditioned place. Free WiFi Password - Guinness TV's all over the place, with different sports on them. Beer: ales, IPA's, pilsners. Mixed drinks. Cold cans of beer on ice. I asked Why no bottles? There's a college nearby and a glass bottle could pose a problem. A daily event calendar: karaoke night, trivia night, see photo. I can imagine on a weekend night this place is really hopping. The Poughkeepsie Metro North station is within walking distance. They have parking and outdoor dining options. I love this place! We came here for a comedy show on Saturday and decided to try some of their food. I went with the Shrimp cocktail and the shrimp used were just perfect! I am always scared when ordering shrimp cocktail due to the fact some establishments use crap grade shrimp, well not this place, they were spectacular. I believe many of the chefs I read graduated from the Culinary Institute of America which is located extremely close to this restaurant, and this could be part of the reason why their food game is on point. My girlfriend got the beef stew, and they gave ample portions of meat with delicious gravy and the mashed potatoes were nothing to sneeze at either. I got a couple Jack and Diet's and the upcharge for a double is not that bad, at the time of writing this I believe it is a four-dollar upcharge. Also got a merlot and it was fresh and delightful. If I lived closer to this place, I would be here all the time. There are several colleges near here, so I assume the vibe is great as well if you are looking to come and have a good time. The train station literally shares there parking lot so if you plan on partaking in a good time with drinks and spirits it would be a good idea to just train it over. Went to Poughkeepsie for a day and was starving on the way back home and decided to get a sandwich to go. I got the corned beef sandwich which came with coleslaw, pickle and fries. The sandwich was huge and so we decided to share and split in two half's. the service was great, they packaged each have separately so everything was nice and neat. The corned beef sandwich was delicious and the fries were hot and soft. We sat in for a few minutes as we waited for our food, the place was huge and had comfortable leather seating and dim. After way too long we tried Mahoney's Irish Pub near Poughkeepsie train station. Came on a Saturday night around 9pm. Downstairs is the bar area and upstairs is for dining and drinks. Not too busy when we arrived we ordered Chocolate Martini and a Stella Artois draft. Martini was good Stella no head on the beer. We orders Crab Rangoon appetizer and Fish N Chips and Stuffed Salmon dinner. My fish n chips came with a soup or salad opted for soup cream of turkey. It had a nice taste could have been a tad warmer. The crab Rangoon was a good appetizer. I didn't look at the menu prior to ordering I just let my instincts dictate my choice. I like dish n chips when it's cod or another flaky fish but this was one huge haddock filet that did not have the best taste. I expected 2-3 chunks of fried fish with fries. I know better now. My wife liked the stuffed salmon but felt it was a little salty. The music wasn't pleasant too loud and like house music was not my style. Came back to Mahoney's after many years. I remember the food being pretty good. Not this time. My boyfriend's 'Irish' corned beef and cabbage was literally sitting in water. The meat was dry with no flavor at all. I ordered a veggie burger which was actually a black bean burger and it was like a hockey puck. The fries were great and the Caesar salad was good. I have tried this place 3 times and I still can't give them anything over 2 stars I try to be the positive reviewer but the place is just blah. Let's start with the house margaritas that are extremely watered down and they only have regular or a blackberry one. I had 2 paid about $30 my friend ordered nachos and they were really nothing to rave about. The staff is not attentive at all, I had to try and get their attention for about 10mins as they spoke amongst themselves. I would love to have said the drinks were good but not once have they been. So far is great then we had this egg roll made of corn beef and Swiss cheese and sauerkraut French onion very tasty. Salmon was very good. Could use more broccoli in the vegetables. My first time eating here I figured I couldn't go along with a sandwich. I choose the Ruben sandwich which reminded me of Cleveland, Ohio, where you can pull over anywhere and get a corn beef or Ruben sandwich almost anywhere. When I walk into the place, it definitely seems like a pirate ship theme. we were given a window seat and served with a smile from our waitress. We asked for a few recommendations and me and my other friends are happy with their meal. My friend said he was happy. My friend got a sampler which she said was OK. We went first thing in the morning or soon after it was open so we didn't get a drink, but I would come back and try it again. Attended a conference on Epilepsy in one of the restaurant's many rooms, each with its own bar. Beautiful decorations/ambience in every room. The bar food is to die for! As I write this I am drooling over my cell phone!! Their food is great and their portions are huge!! Unfortunately, I am on a strict diet and can not partake. I spoke to the chef that I am on a no sodium, no fat and no sugar diet, so everybody had to eat the same as I, and my fellow diners wanted to kill me for it! We all had salmon, Chicken Marsala and Caesar Salad, in very large portions. We served ourselves but the staff was very friendly. The bar was open only one hour, but that was because this was a professional meeting. I really appreciate their chef for really listening to me and accommodating my strict diet. Stopped here during a day trip to the Walkway over the Hudson and ended up disappointed. While our server was a lovely young man, the actual service and drinks were poor. The table was left uncleared from a previous seating, and we had to get our own utensils and napkins from inside. The "sweet and spicy margarita" was a regular size glass of water with a splash of tequila and some jalapeño seeds floating in it. It was undrinkable. We got tater tots and boneless buffalo wings - which were fine but we may as well of been at Applebees or Outback. This place is still in business because they have a captive audience outside of the train station. It's passable as long as you manage your expectations and stick with a Budweiser. read more

I was here on 3/17/23 for a private party downstairs in the private room. This was the first time I have ever been here and didn't realize how big it was being 2 floors and a private room. They had it catered with food from Mahoneys, and since it was 1 day after St. Patty's day, they asked if cornbeef and cabbage could be served, which they did. It was absolutely delicious. They had potatoes, carrots, penne Ala vodka, chicken marsala, and ceasear and balsamic salad. All the food was great! Also, the hostess was Rebecca, and she was fantastic. She had some help with food and cleaning up, but she was manning the bar with about 50 people and doing other stuff like a champ and was so friendly and nice. Great! Roomy restaurant/bar in historic building. Chicken salad was excellent with lots of blue cheese. Two good size Crab cakes which are made in house & presented on bed of raw spinach drizzled with balsamic looked great but I, personally, was a smidgeon disappointed with the cakes themselves. Perfect location to dine while waiting on a train. Literally next to the train station. Vibes was cool on a late weekday evening. Music to tap to while enjoying some Irish fare. The service was good, a bit of a wait but still ok. The wings were AWESOME!! Possibly my taste or that of someone unaccustomed to Irish food - but the chicken soup and shepherd 's pie were a tad salty. And no, salt is not everthing. I like tasting the stuff that makes a dish. Very big restaurant and bar. Nice layout. Two floors. Party room in the back had a live comedy show. Restaurant had live music. I ordered the shepherds pie which was not good. Meat was not tasty and too watery. I expected a decent shepherds pie at an Irish bar. Wings were a little on the dry side. And my husband's old fashion was very light and sweet. Tasted more like ginger ale. Comedy show was entertaining. Party room was very large and lovely. Gave it 3 stars for the space and waitress was very nice. Pat made everything easy for our catering event on short notice. It was the most favorable price point of any other options in the county. The food was delicious. The Claddaugh room was ideal for an intimate party of 30 or more. We were able to play our own Spotify playlist through the sound system built into the room. We brought our own dessert, which they cut up and served for us on small plates. The bartenders were gracious and light-hearted with our avalanche of annoyingly specific requests. I work in the City of POK and I decided to give Mahoney's a try for lunch. I ordered the Irish Beef Stew and Mashed Potatoes. So disappointing. The beef was old and tough with no marbling. It looked like old steak cut up and thrown into a pot. The dish had giant chunks of red peppers in it. Red peppers. In Irish Stew. Despite this glaring problem, it lent NO TASTE to the meal, though one could still taste the metal from the canned mushrooms. The mashed potatoes looked as though they were squeezed from a pastry bag which added a promising touch, but they too had little flavor. Ordinarily I would just chalk this up to a poor decision on my part but this was a $15 dish. WHAT?? Mahoney's should be ashamed of themselves. Staff member with red hair (never got her name, wish I did) yelled at the bride of a rehearsal dinner we were attending after something she profusely apologized for, going for an insult that was below the belt. The bride left early crying. Never seen such poor service in my life. Which is a shame, because I overheard the manager saying this isn't the first time she yelled at someone! Just get there if you can. Fresh, fresh, fresh! The fish and chips were comparable to UK by the sea. Mushy fresh peas included and were just beyond. Crispy coating on the fish (cod) and not greasy. Highly recommend the wings, they've always been perfect, especially the Honey BBQ. Lots of good beers on tap (although the blue line brewery is atrocious and should be removed). The food was excellent. But the wine prices on the menu were different than what I was charged. I was charge $9 for house wine when the menu price was $7.50. Burgers, MAC & Cheese and again those egg rolls.. are to die for. Really excellent food for lunch. Honestly haven't been for dinner but wouldn't expect it any less fantastic!! Great, friendly, knowledgeable staff! The waiters are amazing and bust ass. However, I've been there at lunchtime quite often and there are only two servers on. I feel like even if they had one more server it would make a huge difference. But nontheless, i dream about the egg rolls and when my boss is buying next. I had a margarita and it wasn't good, honestly I am just picky about cocktails and I usually don't like the way most are made in bars. The gin and tonic was good because you can't mess that up.
