I was skeptical at first since Gigi doesnt have a website and her location is a little funky, but I am so glad I took the plunge because I am HOOKED with a capital H! I have seen Gigi a couple times now and am always happy with the results. Contrary to many of my other girl friends who get their lashes curled, I have naturally long eyelashes. They tend to droop a lot towards the outer edges and a manual curler doesn't cut it! Getting my lashes permed makes me look bright eyed and bushy tailed. I always fall asleep in her beds, she plays light spa music and has candles burning, its a very relaxing lunch break escape. Got the keratin lash lift. Overall was a very calming and melancholic experience. Listened to music through out the whole time with my earbuds in. Gigi was nice and attentive and offered me water. Gigi recommended me the inbetween lash lift because it was for my first time and I went with her recommendation. However, I wish I got the most dramatic look tier. So next time, I think I'm gonna get the most dramatic look because my lashes are more on the shorter side and I don't have much lashes. I've been putting off writing a review for years because well, Gigi is just one person and she's already booked well in advance, I didn't want too much competition for appointments! But after a few years of seeing her, I think it's about time she gets the 5 (more like 100) star review she deserves. The room she's currently in is located in the back of a salon, but it's very cozy, clean, and has soft music playing in the background. The lash "shapes" she offers is either a very dramatic curve, a very natural soft curve, and something "in between", which is what I opt for every time. The fact that my lashes come out absolutely perfect every single time (no clumping, no stray lashes drooping) is really a testament to her skill. Gigi's table manners are impeccable, and she makes the procedure absolutely painless and takes great care that none of the perming solution gets on your skin. She really is the sweetest person and will do anything she can to make you as comfortable as possible. I treat my midday appointments as nap sessions because that's really how comfortable the whole experience is. I've been to countless lash perm salons, but Gigi blows everyone right out of the water. 5 stars for the experience, cleanliness and general feel of the place. Very aesthetically pleasing environment, and makes sense why this place is always booked full. Jane did a great job working with my sparse, sad lashes (partially genetics, partially a result of getting lash extensions without a break for the last few months), and was able to give them a lot of oomph. She was great about explaining the steps and also letting me know what to expect and guidance on how the initial lift might differ from future lifts once it's clearer how my lashes hold the curl/respond to everything. She was also very patient because my eyes kept tearing. I just got them so can't speak to holding power yet, but hoping that my eyelashes will hold a curl as well as the hair on my head does. The appeal is definitely in how low maintenance these are supposed to be in comparison to extensions, so hoping results will last well. I also liked that it was pretty quick, and will plan to listen to a podcast next time (definitely made me realize how infrequently I just sit with my thoughts). I did request for the most dramatic look and it did not turn out well. The curve looked so unnatural with some lashes near the outer corner missed/untouched and left straight pointing downward. Obviously, the perm rods used on me did not suit lashes (very straight). The lady who worked on me was very quick and the procedure itself was not too uncomfortable, but I really hoped she warned me about how "the dramatic look" might come out with my natural lashes. After a while, my lashes started to point in different directions... some are bent and tangled. read more

Was able to make my very first lash perm appointment for this past Saturday at 12:15pm. i received a text from Gigi about two hours prior with detailed instructions on how to find her room. She also had pictures to guide my way through the building as well as a reminder of the price and the fact that it is a cash only establishment. I was running a few minutes late and I texted her last minute to see if I could push back my appointment and she was very accommodating and changed my appointment to 12:45 pm. Upon arrival, Gigi welcomed me and explained the different types of curls to me as well as her personal recommendations. Because this was my very first time, I went with her suggestion of doing a mix between the i curl and the c curl. The perm took around 40-45 minutes and it was very relaxing the whole time. There was soft music playing while i laid down the whole time and her room had a pleasant aroma. When the perm was over, i couldn't have been happier with my results. My lashes were lifted and they made my eye look bigger and less tired. It's been two days and I'm still loving them. I no longer feel the need to do my eye makeup anymore and getting ready has never been easier. read more

The upkeep and cost of eyelash extensions made me want to try eyelash perming. With eyelash extensions, you can't really wash with hot water (heat takes off glue), you can't rub your eyes, and if you're wearing contacts like me, they tend to pick up more dust (thus making my eyes dry more often). With eyelash perm, there's nothing really you can't do, and you can still use mascara (if you want). I was ecstatic to try eyelash perm, and I was very pleased with my first experience. It's not easy to find the place. The place is located in a salon called "Loft 26" on the 12th floor of the building. If you like privacy, this is not the place for you as you would be in the same room with another client. Gigi is assertive; You can tell that she knows what she is doing, and would suggest what's best for you without being pushy. She recommended the "i curl", the most curled option (almost like straight eyelashes) for those who already have long eyelashes, and to those who don't want to use eyelash curlers anymore (at least for 5-6 weeks). She is very professional, and she makes you feel comfortable. She isn't your typical Japanese who can be reserved. She has a fun personality, and seems to genuinely care about her clients. I'm really disappointed!!! The ratings are great and the pictures look amazing so I booked 3 appointments through Yelp and called like 5 times. No response at all!!! So I decide to try my luck by just going there and wait. First of all, there's no sign of the place in the building. Had to ask the doorman. Then when I arrived, she wasn't even there. And when I called her, she muted my phone and texted me to call her back but didn't say when. When I texted her if she's able to take me today, again no response. Does this woman not need business?? I've been coming to Gigi for lash perm + tint for 2 years and have never been disappointed (the treatment didn't take once but she happily redid for free to get the desired result). She finally got her own space this year, beautifully decorated, spacious, and relaxing. She says the keratin is healthier for the lashes than Japanese perm so I've been doing that one since she started offering it. Lasts about 6 weeks. I do it every once in a while mostly if I'm going on vacation and don't want to worry about my lashes as much. Super convenient and effective! A little about me: I have your typical straight East Asian lashes. I usually spend at least 10-15 minutes curling them every morning and applying waterproof mascara. Not only does my curl still fall down throughout the day but I also lose lashes from fighting with my eyelash curler. I was planning a trip to New York and immediately booked an appointment with Gigi. This was my first time getting my eyelashes permed but I did a lot of research beforehand so I knew what to expect. We decided to go with the I curl for me - the most dramatic one where the curl is mostly at the base of the lashes and your lashes kind of stick up. I am so so happy with it and I think it was definitely worth the money! It gives my eyes some definition and makes my eyelashes visible even when I'm not wearing makeup, it saves me time in the morning, I can wear regular mascara and my lashes still look curled and amazing after over 12 hours. Unbelievable. Gigi's salon is a small room in LOFT26 (a hair salon). The whole process was relaxing, with calming music in the background, so I didn't hear too much noise from the hair salon. Gigi is A-MAZ-ING!!!!!! I went in a week ago for the first time for the lash perm and tint. Coming from Connecticut is a pain, but she is that worth it and my eyelashes look soooooooo good. When you first get it done, it looks a little weird at first. Your eyelashes are stuck together a bit and the perm looks really intense. It doesn't look bad per say, just weird. After a day or so that completely goes away and your eyelashes are left looking gorgeous! I used to get extensions, but I hate the upkeep and I have pretty good natural lashes, they are just stick straight. This is the perfect option for me and I will be going back 100%. read more

Gigi is great! If you don't like to wear mascara/fake lashes/eyelash extensions, an eyelash perm is definitely the way to go. It's all natural with a bit of umph. You can still wear mascara on top or pay a little extra for a mascara-like tint. I decided to get an eyelash perm because I wear very minimal makeup and tbh, I've become too lazy to even curl my lashes! It's been a month since I've had my perm and it has held up very well. While some of the curls have become less curled & others may have fallen off on their own, a majority of them are still intact. For $40 and under 40 minutes, you have one less step to worry about in your hectic daily schedule. Of course, you'll probably have to touch up every 2 months to keep them in tip-top shape but I think it's worth your while. How to get here: Gigi's place is inside a salon, 12th floor. Don't worry, there are arrows guiding you from elevator to salon. Inside the salon, you can just say you're here to see Gigi. I did my eyelash perm on November 5th (yes, I jotted it down to see how long it would last) and even until now (Dec 23) the results are still visible! I remember I was in looooove how my lashes came out that day (picked a natural curl, I believe it was the second to highest) and was a little bummed when I was told that it would only lasts for 3-4 weeks. However, I can still see that my lashes still have a decent curl, especially when I wash my face! I use my eyelash curler to give it a tiny lift and they're good to go :) Also, I can still use regular mascara (not waterproof) and they wont weigh down, which I could not do with my straight lashes! Gigi is super talented, sweet and such a genuine person. I've had bad experiences with lash peeking in the past and was terrified of ever doing it again, but my lashes are stick straight and my eyes are sensitive to the point where I have trouble wearing most mascara, so I delved back into the world of lash perming and found Gigi. So here is why I find her to be genuine and lovely: after my first perm with her, my lashes overcurled. I contacted her, and she apologized profusely and told me to stop in so she could fix them, free of charge! When I went, she was extra careful, explaining what leads to overcurling and took care of me very quickly so that I could still get to work on time. When I tried to tip her, she refused because the overcurl was "her fault". After she fixed them, they stayed perfect for weeks! I'd just gone back for my second perm (this time for a tint, too), and instead of tinting them, she was honest with me and told me my lashes were very dark and it would not make much of a difference if I tinted them. A lesser technician would've allowed me to waste my money and time, but not Gigi. She cares about her clients, and you can tell. I'll never go to anyone else! read more

I got my lashes done around 4 weeks ago, and I have an appointment coming up this week and thought it was about time I reviewed Mai Lash Bar. So, first of all, obviously, I was really happy with the results or I wouldn't have made a return appointment. I've had straight lashes all my life, though it wasn't until recently that I figured out it had to do with my eye shape. My lids basically push down on my lashes, so that they can't curl naturally even if they want to. This makes curling lashes difficult too because, well, my lids cover the base of my lashes (which also makes them look much shorter than they actually are), and oh yeah, I'm just not talented with an eyelash curler either. You can imagine my interest then when I was procrastinating on the internet (as one tends to do) and found out about lash perms and lash lifts. I was never all that interested in lash extensions because I double cleanse (aka I use an oil-based cleanser to remove my sunscreen and makeup) and I'm also just...not a delicate, put-together person, and I knew if I got extensions, I would probably manage to pull them out within a day. But a lash lift? Something that supposedly required very little maintenance and could leave me looking like I actually had lashes without any makeup on? Omfg yes pls. And well...as I said, obviously the results were good, otherwise I wouldn't be getting my lashes done again next week. It's amazing what having the appearance of lashes can do for your face lol. You automatically look that much better without a single speck of makeup on your face. And mascara looks better too! Because no more drooping lashes since my lashes now stay curled all day every day! Gigi is so friendly and bubbly! It was my first time getting a lash lift and I was unaware and unprepared to choose a lash shape. She asked me a few questions (e.g. Do I use a lash curler? Do I wear mascara? Do I like dramatic eyez?) and suggested a shape. The process was so easy and relaxing! I definitely took a mini nap on the comfy beds. Wasn't revolutionary (maybe due to the fact that my lashes are not super long to begin with), I did the "I" curl as I have been used to having lash extensions, but didn't feel the curl held up as well after 12 hours or so, the right side has already started to weaken despite having selected the most dramatic curl. Personally, I also didn't think the service was to be raved about, it felt pretty crisp and curt as a first timer here. My therapist didn't engage in much friendly chatter at all and seemed in a hurry to get it done. I read posts about people being offered an extra something like castor oil, but I was never offered that. Happy with the results but I left with very very very red eyes. I'm not sure if it was due to the burning sensation I was feeling during the procedure (I went with my cousin and she didn't feel any burning nor did she have any redness). I read from previous reviews that it could happen. Gigi had eyedrops for me though and was super sweet, she even helped put the drops in for me. Hopefully next visit, I leave without the red eyes.
