Before I begin: 1. Be careful when you are looking at reviews or websites because there a several restaurants with the name Mai Thai. This is the one in Robbinsdale, off of Bottineau Blvd. 2. The address is on Lakeland Avenue, which really is a frontage road on the west side of Bottineau Blvd. It's one of those "you can't get there from here." The secret is to take 39th St (East) off Broadway, and make a right turn, OR follow France (east) at the point where France and Broadway meet. Use Google maps. It's not difficult, just weird. 3. I looked at all of the bad reviews (1 star and 2 star) for this restaurant and they are all very old. I had been to this restaurant over 10 years ago and was not very impressed. However, they must have changed ownership because now its an excellent Asian/Thai restaurant and very much worth a try. I have been there twice in the last few weeks. The Pork Egg Rolls are probably the best I've ever had, including the ones at Rainbow Chinese Restaurant. Order them for sure. The Chicken or Pork Pad Thai, as well as the Drunken Noodles (Stir fry wide noodles, egg, bell pepper, mushroom, tomato, onion and basil) are fantastic. The surprise Killer dish is the Pineapple Fried Rice (Egg, pineapple, peas, onions, cashew nuts, and raisins) which is absolutely, amazingly good, and now is literally my favorite Twin Cities fried rice. It is a very large order and can easily feed 2 to 3 people. The chicken sate was OK, but seemed a bit dry. The Crispy Pot Stickers lost their crispness on their way home, but probably would be much better in the restaurant. The service is very friendly and they fill take out orders very quickly. The restaurant itself is fairly large, but has the (lack of) charm of must Asian restaurants -- pretty utilitarian. I am very happy to see that Mai Thai has improved so much and encourage you to look at more recent reviews (post Covid).

Mai goodness, these stir fries were good! You've gotta Thai them... haha I had to! My buddies and I had the Thai Basil Stir Fry, Cashew Stir Fry, and Pad Thai This place was pretty darn good. Very nice owner and open atmosphere. They have a statue of some of the Peanuts characters near the front which is fun! I loved the mushrooms in the first dish, and the chicken was fried lightly but flavorfully. The next one had the cashews as the highlight, with sautéed chicken, which was also tasty. The final one was our least favorite. The noodles were just a bit too thin for Pad Thai; I prefer thicker and wider noodles. But the peanut flavor and sauce were awesome, I'd buy a bottle of that stuff. Good for family or a group of friends, the fresh food from Mai Thai is sure to satisfy

Just called to place an order for wings and jalapenos wontons.... I guess my order wasnt high enough, so I was advised of $15 minimum on credit card purchases. I asked how much my order was = $12.58. I unfortunately only had a credit card on me... so I was forced to cancel the order. What the heck?! I just wanna eat tasty jalapenos wontons and chicken.... Kind of a turn off... but I get it. I'm not ordering double food orders or stopping at the atm either. I got an immediate call back, same chick (different girl then who assisted me the first time) and was advised that she just remembered that debit cards were ok, just not credit cards. Nice to know, but No Buenos.

Don't let the decor deceive you!

We ordered the Lotus Bahn Mi, the Beef Lo Mein, and the Eggrolls. The Lo Mein was delicious, the egg rolls were some of the best we've had in the Twin Cities, and the Bahn Me had such a refreshing taste paired with an amazing bread. I'd recommend all 3 dishes. The place is a little small, but very cute and cozy. Staff was extremely nice, and attentive. They were happy to talk about the options as well. We'll definitely be back, next time I'm going to try their Pho!

Parking can be hard to find; there have been altercations in the area; also, the last time we went the restaurant it was not very clean. We will continue to visit the restaurant, but I want to make it known to others about all my experiences. Pros: - Several. We have always felt the hospitality is superb. Cons: - Mentioned in the above description.

We began with the Roasted Cashews, which were perfectly seasoned and addictive. For mains, the Red Curry was rich, complex, and comforting, but the star of the show was undoubtedly the Pineapple Fried Rice. Hands down, the best version we have ever had--perfectly balanced sweetness and savory depth. The drink pairings were spot on: I enjoyed a lovely glass of Pinot Noir that complemented the spice beautifully, while my partner had a crisp, cold Sapporo. Nong's is a true gem in Golden Valley for authentic, high-quality Thai food. The service makes you feel like family. Highly recommend!

The service is friendly. We were greeted shortly after entering. The restaurant was fairly busy, with many others dining in, and many takeout orders coming in as well, but we were seated right away! Several employees checked in on us to make sure we had everything we needed and were enjoying our food throughout our dining experience! They have many vegetarian and gluten free options. They also have some vegan options or items that can be made vegan upon request! We had the cream cheese wontons as an appetizer! The filling was very smooth and creamy and slightly sweet. We also had pad see yew with tofu and pad thai with mock duck. The servings are generous and each entree can easily last for 2 meals. They include a lot of the protein of choice, which I greatly appreciate. Some thai restaurants ask you for your desired level of spice, but we weren't asked here. They were mild (no spice) by default. The pad see ew had a savory, slightly sweet flavor. The noodles were perfectly chewy, and the Chinese broccoli had a nice little crunch. The pad thai had a good balance of sweet, salty, and savory. For dessert we had the mango sticky rice! The mango wasn't particularly ripe, but the coconut milk provided the perfect amount of sweetness. I enjoy Nong's Thai and would recommend it!

I will be thinking of how good that dish is for the rest of my life; the coconut milk and lime combined with the texture of fresh seafood really hit the spot! The Thai basil wings and Massaman curry were very yummy also. I enjoyed my meal so thoroughly that I forgot to take many pictures. The presentation on my cocktail (a tonic with vodka and buddha hand fruit) was very pretty. Service was thoughtful and quick. The restaurant itself was beautiful and open and airy -- I almost felt like I wasn't in Minneapolis anymore. We went on a Tuesday, and only drawback I'd say is that the noise level can be a little bit loud due to the acoustics and how the room is one giant space. Otherwise, very happy with the restaurant and would go again.

When we arrived we were given a nonalcoholic shot, which was very tasty! This place is pretty strict one sending in your whole order at once, so appetizer and entree go in at the same time. They can stagger how they bring out the dishes though! The food was incredible! We started with the basil wings! Those are a MUST! The wing is so juicy and has great flavor! As entrees, we had the New York strip laab. This is a chilled steak dish. Our steak was more "luke warm" but the flavor was explosive! The steak was also done to a perfect medium the whole way through! The salad was bright and paired so well! This was our favorite dish! The green curry octopus was tender and the green curry tasted so fresh! The peas in this dish felt overpowering and we did not care for them. The scallop crudo was light, melt in your mouth! The coconut milk and citrus paired so well in this dish! Unique! My only complaint was that it was not as pretty as it was on the webpage. For dessert we got some cocktails! Their version of an espresso martini was pretty good but I have had better. The gold coffee bean was a nice touch! The show stopper was the orange blossom pistachio cake! Oh my gosh!!! I've been here before with friends and they've ordered the curry, but the curry looked too watery and that kind of should've told me that it wasn't going to be a hit of a Thai place for me. I like closer to a thicker sauce for coconut curry. Usually the Thai places that have more watery coconut curry sauces just hits a little lower & it def shows. Amazing Thai has this same issue lol. Now, this place too... I feel lost without a fav Thai place in Minne lol. The string beans were crunchy in the papaya salad which was great but the entire sauce tasted like MSG & lacks the Lao shrimp paste flavor although it was more grey since I did order the Lao style but not enough shrimp paste flavor as it should have.
