Stopped and met a dear friend from HS here. We got sat sure fast. They had a "buffet" set up for brunch. It wasn't awful but probably should have ordered off the menu as I'm not a buffet person. Very clean establishment. We saw all kinds of bulk food as you walk in the doors. Apparently they accept non perishable do to help out the locals if they need a hand up. They also help with the school summer lunch program. If that isn't enough of a reason to go visit...well I'm sorry you're dead inside. read more

Rating 2/5 stars because Sandy's quality used to be better...maybe we just went on an extremely off day. In my opinion, $22 for an Easter brunch buffet should mean hot food that won't run out. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. Our party of 10 arrived at 11:00am and all of the food in the buffet was cold. Even when they'd bring more of a certain item to replace on the buffet line, it wasn't warm. The only item that was hot was the prime rib at the carving station. Being pregnant, I felt extremely uncomfortable eating cold buffet food due to the increased risk of food poisoning, so I wasn't able to enjoy much beyond the room temperature biscuits and the last scrapings of the white gravy along with some green beans that were warmish. Defintely not worth the $22 a person. They also ran out of carrot cake on Easter of all holidays, which was a disappointment. We probably won't be back for a buffet at Sandy's, which is a shame because our family has eaten their Mother's Day buffet several times and it had been fine (not stellar, but fine). Also, just a personal opinion, but the constant use of bad AI pictures on their Facebook is so cringey. The Boomers might like it, but the younger crowd sees this sort of stuff and thinks "yikes." It's one of those hidden gems that the "locals" know and love. Servers greet the regulars and the regulars know which station "THEIR" favorite servers attend. Friendly and welcoming - - nice to experience on a brisk, autumn Saturday. HOWEVER!! Be forewarned.... COME HUNGRY!!! The portions are very generous! And really, REALLY good! Our meals required TWO servers! My friend ordered the fried chicken dinner. It was BEAUTIFUL! GOLDEN brown. Her sides were broccoli and Mac and cheese. As a big fan of chicken livers (if you know, you know). At first I was a little concerned they were over cooked. But nope! They were JUST RIGHT Goldilocks! The liver and onions were great. My wife had a tenderloin and she said it was awesome. The customer service was impeccable and the kitchen manager Bobby Hines was attentive. The waitress I don't recall her name was great as well. It's a nice place. It's bigger than the old place they were in previously. Bathrooms were clean. Overall nice place!!!! I have only had breakfast food here, but everything I've had has been delicious. I love their biscuits and gravy and always order something that has at least the gravy on it. I've had their breakfast through DoorDash as well, and the food came perfectly cooked and hot. My boyfriend really disliked the interior of the restaurant. It's basically a huge open space, and we went when they were fairly busy and only had a table in the middle open. For those of you that grew up in small town USA then I have a treat for you. Nice clean large restaurant that still has a country feel. The Sandy's Tenderloin was the bomb. The coating was not heavy but crispy. My wife and I split the sandwich with some to go home for dinner. It comes with fries, tater tots or okra. They serve breakfast all day and I'm told that the biscuits and gravy platter is great , and would be hard to finish at one sitting. All the dishes are large from what I saw, so you get your moneys worth. Don't forget the home made pies. Just like grandma use to make or even your mother if you're a senior like I am. Though not on 40 any more I decided to try them. They are part of PT's in Oak Grove so why not? After Hospital Hill, my mom and I ate lunch at Sandy's. (This girl has to eat after a hot run). I had the obvious, tenderloin sandwich and onion rings. I could only eat half of the sandwich it was the size of the plate. I added hot sauce on it and it was delicious. The breading was seasoned as expected. The onion rings, huge order. My mom had an omelet. It had 3 eggs. I don't eat eggs and can't review it. The restaurant was roomy, social distanced with quaint but few decorations. The service was great fir a Saturday! We got our food quickly. Definitely will visit again. read more

I was in the mood for a home-cooking breakfast so we stopped into Sandy's. We were seated at a half booth/half table and unfortunately, the booth seat was very dirty. I had to wipe it out before we could sit and then I noticed the seam in the boot was even more dirty. It had clearly been quite some time since it was wiped out. The food was...just okay. The French toast lacked cinnamon...as in, I could not see or taste any. It was also oddly dry. Our service was slow and our table was never bussed for dirty dishes. read more

The restaurant itself has weird hours, being completely closed on Mondays. My father loves it here because it is homestyle food. The food does taste good. I will give them that; however, it takes a long time to get it. Even with giving grace for the food being made to order, if you don't actually tell them that you are in a hurry and then continue to prompt the waitress, you will wait an extremely long time for your food. I stopped here with my parents on election day after we voted. We arrived at 7 AM when they opened, actually we got there about 645 so we were waiting there when they open the doors at 7:01. I had a 25 minute drive to work and had to be there by eight. I asked if it was going to be possible to get my food in enough time to leave by 7:30. This should not have been a problem because we were literally the only customers in the restaurant. The waitress assured me that service would be fast and I should have my food in less than 15 minutes. We sat down and ordered, I got basic bacon and eggs. I was told bacon might take longer; although I'm not sure why 15 minutes was not long enough to cook it. I said that's fine, I will scratch the bacon and eggs and take pancakes instead. The waitress asked if we wanted her to go ahead and bring mine out as soon as it's ready or wait for everyone's to be made and my father said go ahead and bring mine out so I could leave when I need to. The waitress took off to get our drinks and, before she put our order in, another group arrived. Instead of putting our order in, she went to see that group and took their drink order, then when she dropped their drinks off, she took their food order as well. She put both food orders in at the same time then. 10 minutes after we ordered, the other table was getting their food (note several of them had bacon) and ours had not arrived yet. I flagged the waitress down and asked again about our food. She said she would check on it and it disappeared again. In addition to the long wait, my father had asked for orange juice for breakfast. orange juice. He was told they were completely out. Of orange juice. At breakfast. When they opened. Cut to 715. We've been waiting for 15 minutes and still no food. I flagged down the waitress to ask what was going on because I wasn't going to have time to eat if I didn't get my food right away.She again said she would go check and this time immediately returned with all our food that had apparently been sitting in the window Long enough to get cold. Cold pancakes aren't the greatest in my mind. It was 7:25 by this time so I hurried to eat my cold pancakes in 5 minutes and took off for work well my parents stayed there to finish eating at a reasonable pace. I knew I was going to have to eat fast to make it work, but if you know, someone only has about 15 minutes to wait for an order and you can't make that happen you should just be honest with the customer and say "I'm sorry we probably won't be able to be that fast." I would much rather have them. Tell me we're short staffed. I can't guarantee that will happen and let me go somewhere else to eat where I can eat quickly, then be late to work because of it. Probably the most annoying thing about the situation is that our food probably was done quickly and just sat in the window, getting cold for us all because the waitress didn't want to go check. Service here is never great, but usually it doesn't matter that they don't serve people in the order of arrival or in the order of being sat and that it takes 10 years to get your food. If you're not in a hurry it's an OK place to get home style food. If you have other options though, go to those places instead of here. read more

We decided to try Sandy's out, after hearing good buzz about their homestyle cooking. We walked in and I first noticed the ceilings are super high. It feels like a shop turned in to a restaurant. Which, it's in a strip mall so I'm sure that's why. Just not super cozy. However, the service we received was great. Server was attentive and nice. The restaurant was clean. For the food.....We ordered the fried cheese curds to start with. OMGeeeee...these rank right up there with the best I've had. So delish! I had the tenderloin sandwich with onion rings. My husband ordered the tenderloin dinner. I thought it was alright. Not as seasoned as some of my favorite spots. My husband reported the same but loved the gravy and his sides. What did disappoint were the onion rings, which were an additional $3.79 substitution for fries. For that price I expected a huge pile made in-house. Someone here suggested it was associated with Oak Grove's PT's, I do not know that personally, but it's an insult to PT's whose onion rings are the very best in the greater Kansas City. Sandy's does offer a special each day of the week, and we've tried them all. If your needs are "down home," and you like chrome tables and chairs, this is your place. The wait time to be seated wasn't horrible as it was only maybe 15mins but when we were called to be seated the hostess allowed other couple sitting to take our place as they went up after calling my name to be seated and told the hostess they had been there before! The hostess went and seated them instead of me and my family! The other couple had not been there before us either!!! Finally when seated we got handed our menus which one still had food on it! I got up and went to hostess stand to switch them out. We ordered our food and while our appetizer came out fairly quickly and was very good tasting our meal was about an hour long wait there after!!! We asked our server what the hold up was and we're told "he had put it in about 15 mins late (after taking order)!!! Then proceeded to try to shift blame and said "at least your wait isn't as long as others! There have been others today who have waited an hour to 2 hours!" That shouldn't be an excuse! Finally got our meals and while it was ok it wasn't worth the long wait as it had been. When paying for our meals as leaving the server came up to the register and went and cashed us out but had to throw in the statement of how much in sales he had done that day and compared to what typically it is. We were excited to try Sandy's as they are always busy. We were for sure we were going to find a little gem. That was not the case. The restaurant is small and busy with tables too close together. The table next to us was having a horribly uncomfortable argument for too long. That alone made me want to leave. The table top advertisement of "crime scene clean up professionals" was less than appetizing. However, we stayed since we had already placed our order. Our food arrives after at least a half hour. The hash browns are from a bag, the toast is served with liquid butter/margarine on it, no butter on the table either. We've gone in for breakfast once, obviously nothing fancy. The servers were all very nice and it was really pretty busy, all the customers were over the age of 60 so I felt out of place with my two loud kiddos. The next couple times we ate here we just ordered it and picked it up. Food was the exact same, great portions good food. We LOVE their mashed potatoes with brown gravy, just add a little salt and pepper and they're perfect! My kids LOVE the breakfast sausage and bacon with a side of pancake. Not going to say this is the competition to a 5 star but the food is real good, I had the Chopped steak as I heard about the tenderloin and didn't need a transfusion to keep from passing out at work. The server thought I was someone else and goes to show how down home they are, She said Hi sweetie have a seat. then she realized I wasn't who she thought I was and apologized, I said hey no one ever calls me sweetie anymore. I like my fries on my chopped steak in gravy and that's the way it came. ( I asked for it) fresh food prepped and good real good.
