Stopped by Maido Sushi Cafe and tried the Spam Musubi, Spicy Tuna Onigiri, and Veggie Sushi. Everything was fresh and made to order, which I always appreciate. The food was simple, satisfying, and reasonably priced for the quality. One thing that stood out was how friendly and welcoming the worker was. Great customer service made the experience even better. The shop itself is pretty small inside, but there are a few tables inside and outside if you'd like to sit and eat. The drinks also looked really good, though I didn't end up trying any this visit. Finally made time to stop in today for lunch... and then dinner at Maido sushi cafe. Always thought the closest ramen was in Monterey but I'm glad I found Maido close by considering I live only a few blocks away in Marina. lunch started with the ahi tuna roll(spicy). Was very surprised how nice the chunks of tuna in the roll were. Wasn't just amazing quality fish but also great portions. Definitely good value for 12$. Also ordered the hamachi nigiri for 7.50. Food came out in less than 7 min. Same thing with the hamachi, I was very happy with the quality and portion. Finished my meal drinking a Ramune. I really love all the Japanese snacks and drinks they have available to purchase. Definitely worth the money if you're looking for great quality and affordable sushi made quick. Came back for dinner with my wife because we've been really craving ramen lately. The Ramen was incredible. Great noodles and broth. The topping were also amazing. Egg was cooked perfectly and soaked in soy sauce. The star of the ramen was the chashu though. Pork was seasoned well and cooked to perfection. No part of the meat was tough. It melted in your mouth with just enough resistance to improve the mouth feel. Last time I had ramen this good was in Japan. Overall, the food was top quality, the service was fast and the staff was very kind. Love when you not only enjoy the food but can enjoy a brief conversation with the team. You can clearly tell they are passionate about the food and drinks they offer. Amber, the cashier was telling me about the outside eating area and how the owner planted the bamboo. Really added to the ambiance and felt like a little nook we could enjoy our meal in. Also ordered the mango matcha late which was excellent. My husband and I were on a quick trip to Marina Dunes, and we wanted to eat some good sushi and enjoy the ocean view, so we decided to get some take-out. We ordered a LOT of sushi (nigiri and basic rolls) that would have cost a lot more as a typical sit down place. Fish was fresh and tasty, the rolls were great, we were impressed. 10/10 one of my most notable restaurants from this trip. I don't go back to places usually but here I would. Lovely people 10/10. They are actually Japanese and get unique things from japan. The sushi is fresh with huge chunks of fish that's isn't grounded up. The sushi is simple with a seasoning that coats the outside that is actually pretty spicy. However they do have a small menu. We also got the ramen and I was a bit apprehensive but it was phenomenal. I never drink the broth of ramen but I had to here. It was so flavorful and not overly salty like some other places. The chasu had the most brilliant char on it. If I'm ever in the area again I will definitely have to come here! read more

This place is SO CUTE. I stopped in on a holiday when they were slammed (felt so bad) but they still nailed the order. The sushi selection and quality isn't mind-blowing here, but it's not really the point! This is a sushi CAFE and not a sushi restaurant. Like, emphasis on the cafe part. You don't go to a coffee shop for their sandwiches, but they do usually have some on the menu, right? If you put it in that perspective, this place rocks. :) The hojicha iced latte I got absolutely slapped! I could have drank a gallon of it. So nice and earthy and fresh-tasting! My husband got a butterfly pea flower drink that he said was also really refreshing and lovely. We got some musubi and onigiri along with our sushi and they were pretty solid! I especially was DELIGHTED that not only do they have a little selection of tasty wagashi, but they have my #1 favorite: mitarashi dango!!! We ordered two tempura shrimp rolls, two spam masubi, salmon onigiri, and matcha drinks. Everything was great!! We loved the spam masubi the most as well as the matcha. Food was amazing. Beautiful inside of restaurant and a lot of kind looking people. Workers smiled at me as I got my food. My food was fresh tasty and gorgeous, with the best rice I've ever had. I finished most of my bowl only leaving the seaweed, cucumber pieces, and lemon slices behind. The bowl comes included with seaweed, lemon slice, and cucumber onto the bowl. How on Earth does this place have 4.5 stars on Yelp? We ordered 2 Philly rolls, a Negihama roll and a spicy tuna roll. The rice was thick, like it wasn't sushi rice. The ratio of rice to fish is about 50/50- but since the texture of the rice is off the whole thing is off. The salmon tasted like Lox. I understand it's smoked salmon, which I love and have had many times. This was just different, not in a good way. The Negihama roll was ok. The spicy tuna roll was ok. The atmosphere is cramped and definitely a To Go place. We waited 35 minutes for a subpar dinner. Everyone was nice. Honestly if you like real sushi I would pass on this place. Very limited selection as well. Maybe their other stuff is good, but we won't be returning. read more

Right at the corner right next to Domino's- it might be a little hard to find if you're looking at the general view of the plaza. Cute family owned place with a good selection for their menu. I believe they started off as a catering business and eventually opened up a restaurant. Staff is very friendly, it definitely gives off the local intimate feel which I love! My mom and I ordered the tempura roll and it was a sharable snack. The quality was also there. I was exited to see new types of drinks you don't usually see in the area. I moved up north to the bay recently so seeing a place that offers drinks such as hojicha latte in Marina was great to see We visited their opening day and there were a handful of other people there. It was a bit of a wait due to there being only 2 people in the back and one person at the front, so just a heads up if you are looking for a grab and go place. I'm sure once they get more staffing it'll be much more quicker :) read more

The food is 10/10 simply delicious! The ramen is to die for. The poke bowls are also amazing. The miso soup is delicious. The many and varied drinks are just so good. Also the sushi is amazing. All food is fresh and appealing. Even our 3 year old loves the noodles and miso soup. Plus they have Japanese food and drinks you can purchase right there. The service is great. People are so nice. They really make u feel good. They smile and will engage. Ambiance is good but the only slightly negative is their store is a little small. But the bathrooms are clean and nice and really no complaints. In conclusion - if you want to eat the best ramen noodles and poke bowls in not only the Monterey county but also San Jose - try Maido's. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed. Maido Catering now has a brick & motar store front in the strip mall behind McDonald's in Marina. It is literally next door to Domino's pizza. Maido Sushi is and still are a staple at local Farmers Market around monterey County. So excited to see they have a permanent location. . Cute place with a few tables and a small outdoor patio area. My sushi was made to order and great options of drinks including hot match tea. Cold drinks in cooker and a small selection of Japanese snacks. I also spied some spam musubi on the counter as well. I really wished that I liked this place, like every other reviewers but that wasn't the case for me. The service was great but the food wasn't up to the expectation and seemed a little rushed for my liking. My friend and I ordered the chirashi and two poke bowls and it was crazy to see how our bowls were so different. The portion sizes were significantly different from one another that I personally felt ripped off a little bit. We ordered the same thing so the differences shouldn't be significant. The smell was awful when I initially walked in and thought this isn't a good sign... but so many people said it was good so I wanted to at least give it a try. Big mistake on my part! The food was mediocre at best. They overdo it with the mayo here. Very little fish but tons of sauce so the sushi was all mushy. I was so disappointed. I would never go back! Their only saving grace was that their ramen broth was good. Very little noodles but the broth was made well. If you want to go to a sushi restaurant then this is not the place. Absolutely delicious! Love the simplicity yet authentic vibe/decor. Bathroom was so clean btw. Just like Japan with the bidet. Service was friendly, not super quick but I'm ok with that. They had a few people ahead of me waiting first. Price is fair for the quality you get. We aren't in town often, but when we are, I have definitely found my new spot to grab a bite/drink. The rolls I don't remember the name of because it has been a few weeks however, the food was delicious and we finished every piece while sitting in to eat. Additionally, they offer a good selection of Japanese snacks and prepackaged rolls in the cooler which is great for people looking to pick up genuine rolls over something from say, Safeway. The fish is really fresh, everyone that works there is super nice, and it's just such a nice atmosphere. I am gluten free, and there's plenty of options that are clearly marked on the menu (including rolls which is often hard to come by). They also have gluten free soy sauce. Fabulous place! I had miso soup, two different smoked salmon rolls, and hot green tea -- green tea with roasted rice! You know this is authentic Japanese food. Great service. Friendly, polite, all the civility and hospitality you could ask for. You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. Not a lot of seating, and nothing fancy, but it is just fine. I saw they have plenty of authentic Japanese food items in the cooler and on the "snack" rack -- roll cakes, Pocky, cold drinks, etc. Also, they have ramen, which I plan to try in the future.
