Can't beat lunch deal! A flavorful miso soup, perfectly Portioned salad and ample Sushi for $20 including tax. Fresh fish hit the spot. Enjoyed the sunshine at an outdoor table. Hospitable service gave me all the arm and fuzzies. Recommend!

I found this really good sushi place in Monterey. There's many choices to pick from, but I went with the sashimi combo. I needed some green light, Thinsulin approved food to lower my insulin level. This place didn't disappoint. You order the food, pick up free tea or water, and wait for your food. The sashimi wasn't the freshest I have eaten. It's decent, but not amazing. The miso soup was a bit different. It was more like a tofu vegetable soup. It was good. Overall, it was good.

Dropped in for a quick bite and was pleasantly surprised! The combo plate was delicious, reasonably priced and the staff was friendly and so welcoming. What really sent it over the edge was the hot tea and lemon water they offer for free as a drink. It's such a simple but effective touch. We thoroughly enjoyed!

So many options to choose from! Thankfully there's friendly helpful staff, I asked the cashier for some options to choose from and I loved it. The sushi was soooooo good and they have my fave drinks from Hawaii too

my new FAVORITE sushi spot!!! I have been wanting to go to this spot for a while now. I stumbled upon it this past week and it is a game changer! the products are very high quality and every dish is made with love and passion. the nice women who helped me were very very nice and attentive when dining in. i brought a friend to this spot and she was in awe by how amazing the food and service was. i went back a second time this day because my mom was jealous of my lunch - she loved it! the inside in the restaurant is small and cute with items to purchase by the cashier. i have never tried an onigiri before but they caught my eye when i was checking out. i got the tuna mayo, and it was delicious!!! i would recommend this spot to anyone, an absolutely must! everything is also priced very reasonably! my mom and i got 6 hand rolls and potstickers (4) for $31!

    Chirashi, very good.

Very friendly ambiance, every few minutes a familiar local would walk in and be warmly greeted with a note of remembrance. I felt at home. The seafood was fresh and delicious, with notes of sweetness and ocean saltiness. Rice was prepared perfectly to mix well with the fresh seafood. The udon broth was delightful and fragrant. We will return soon.

It's been over three years since we had last been here and didn't realize we'd order just about the same items (red snapper bowl instead of the red snapper bento box and then the rainbow row) but wow the consistency after this many years is great.... This time we ate indoors instead of taking to go and the service was fast--I like the restaurant's attention to detail. Brought a toddler and while we did come prepared (kid bowl and spoon), it was nice that they also provided it (which she seemed to prefer over the ones we brought lol) and this place is definitely considered a hit if she likes the food (she'd eat the red snapper with rice and smile--so big wins!)

The salmon donburi was really tasty. The service is a bit slow, and the place is pretty small. But very clean. Have a lot of stuff on the menu

Trying this Chicken Curry rice plate - delicious but not enough chicken.

LOVE Ocean Deli Sushi! Especially love the ready made/to go food items! Delicious food and friendly staff/owners, how can you not love this place?

Really enjoyed my visit to Ocean Sushi Deli! The food was delicious, the service was great, and everything about the experience just felt good. Definitely a spot I'd come back to when in Monterey.

Everything was really fresh and prepared well. The restaurant has beautiful vaulted ceilings and great vibes. Only note was the music was all over the place but not a big deal at all. We ordered a lot since we were both very hungry and left satisfied. Starters: Spicy garlic edamame - great flavor and not overly done (5/5) Shrimp & Veggie tempura- perfect amount of batter (5/5) Gyoza (5/5) Mains: Chicken Teriyaki served with miso soup, salad, and steamed rice. (4/5) only because the salad while good had a little too much dressing, not a deal breaker. Sake sashimi 5/5 Tiger roll 5/5 Would definitely recommend as a great sushi spot and will be back!

Spacious interior and a separate room for private party. Agedashi tofu and the sushi rolls (Aspen, Sun and Whole-Hearted) were delicious and I'd highly recommend for a good variety. I appreciated the freshness of the fish, rice to fish ratio and creativity of each roll. They also have vegan rolls. Prices were a little elevated for the smaller portions of sushi - $18 and up for each roll but they were tasty enough. There's 60 min street parking nearby.

Parking was only mildly challenging, as a space opened up after only a single lap around the block. Inside here, you'll find a busy place with a few tables and individual bar-style (partitioned!) paired seating along the walls adjacent to the kitchen in the middle part of the restaurant. Order up at the self-serve order kiosks, tap in your table/counter number, and they bring out your order in a couple of minutes. We had six of us in our party, and most of us kept it simple by ordering the default Tonkatsu Ramen with different customizable options. Most all of the ingredients in this order were on point - The Chasu Pork Belly was tender, thick and delicious, ramen noodles nothing special, but generally stil on point, as were the bamboo shoots. However, the co-star/centerpiece of the Tonkatsu Ramen other than the Chasu Pork slab should be the broth, but sadly the broth was far far TOO salty which overpowered the other flavors in the broth. Chasu Pork 4.8/5, Tonkatsu Ramen 3.1/5. Service was good as everyone was hustling hard in the kitchen, along with attentive bussers/waitstaff to quickly turn tables. They take good care in wiping down the tables here. If I return, I'll just get the Paitan Ramen like I did in years past, as that seemed less salty. Then again the Paitan soup base begins with the same chicken+pork soup base as the Tonkatsu Ramen. I hope Toribashi will step back up to their former glory.

After lunch at Sand Dabs, we stumbled across this really cute café, and it ended up being the perfect stop. When we walked in, the first thing we noticed was that they were making fresh taiyaki, those sweet, fish-shaped pastries. The fillings offered were red bean, Nutella, and Oreo. There's a small discount if you order two, so we started with the red bean and Nutella, and honestly, they were so good that wished we ordered the Oreo too...warm, freshly made, and really delicious. I'll admit, I've had Taiyaki desserts before and was never a huge fan, sometimes they're bland or overly sweet. These were different. Even my friend said the same thing, we were both pleasantly surprised by how good they were. We both ordered hot teas, which felt perfect for the rainy weather, and I was totally intrigued by their ramen vending machines. You pick your ramen, choose your toppings, place it in the machine, and it fills with hot water and cooks right there. A few minutes later, your bowl is ready. It felt very Asia-inspired and not something you see very often around here, especially in a café setting. This spot is the café version of their main restaurant, which I believe is on Alvarado Street (I haven't been there yet). The service was genuinely great. The guys working were friendly, patient, and took the time to explain everything to us without rushing. You could tell they enjoyed what they were doing. Because it was raining, it wasn't crowded at all, which made the experience even better. We ended up hanging out for about an hour, just chatting, sipping tea, enjoying dessert, and looking out at the water. They also carry Marianne's Ice Cream, so I'm already planning a return visit on a warmer day. And honestly, next time I'll probably try the ramen too, if only for the fun of it and all the topping choices. Parking around the wharf is paid. We parked in a nearby lot and walked over, which was pretty easy, just something to keep in mind. Overall, the vibe was fun, cozy, and relaxed. Great desserts, a unique experience, kind staff, and a really nice place to spend a rainy afternoon by the water. I'll definitely be back.

I ordered the mango matcha latte, which was a whopping $8.75 ($9.55 after tax). I gulped pressing the "pay" button; part of me wanted to swallow the doubt and see if it was any good. TLDR: it was bad. I'm not sure what the mango is made out of, but it is not smooth like a mango jam or puree. The texture is like blended up unripened mango meat. I will say, matcha taste is there, but the entire drink was just extremely sweet and there was little to no mango taste, besides chewing on the chunks in each sip. It's as if the drink was purposely made extremely sweet to hide the quality of the matcha and fruit. I tried finishing the drink since I paid nearly $10 for it but I couldn't, and had to throw the rest away. However, the worker who made my drink was kind and seems very friendly. The interior is very simple and cute, and there is a nice view of the ocean from the outside seating. I just wouldn't recommend the matcha here. Especially for what I paid for, I am pretty disappointed! :(

We chose Old Fisherman's Grotto, and where we were encouraged by the friendly hostess to wait just a bit so she could give us a prime view table. We ordered drinks, and then a large platter of calamari and grilled artichokes was brought to our table. We politely explained that we hadn't ordered it, but were told that it was compliments of the house. We agreed that it was among the best calamari and artichokes we had ever had. In addition, warm, freshly baked sourdough bread and butter was provided as well. We ordered our dinners, which were beautifully prepared and presented, as well as being extremely generous portions. I can honestly say that it was an exceptional meal and reasonably priced as well. As we finished our entrees, Chris the owner stopped by our table to ask if we had enjoyed our dinners. He said that his parents had opened the restaurant 76 years ago, and it continued to be a family owned and operated business. I looked forward to writing this review, because this dinner was that rare experience where ambiance, service, food preparations and portions, and a bit of history made for a truly special and memorable dining experience.
