Health in a bowl! Marina's Poke House is my favorite poke restaurant in the Monterey Peninsula. They have the best toppings, most variety and fresh fish. I used to try other poke bowl joints in the area but have given up on the rest and now only frequent this Marina Poke House. Why mess with perfection? The service is always nice and they are also still taking safe precautions with COVID so it's take out only for the time being. I love them even more for doing what they can to keep us all healthy. Brown rice, white rice, sushi rice, mixed salad, cucumbers, onions, avocado, corn, edamame, tofu, delicious dishes, green onions, mango, pineapple, fried crunchy stuff, maguro fish eggs... they have it all! Overpriced for small portions! I came here for dinner with my husband and it was empty. The restrooms were closed and it seemed like the dining area was closed for dining in. We saw a small dessert freezer with macarons on the outside thinking there would be some in the freezer but all they had were ice sandwiches. Customer service was friendly but the portions were small and the lady making our bowls was even stingy with the toppings! Flavors were okay but most importantly the amount of food you get for what they charge is NOT worth it. Never coming back and I would definitely recommend going to Poke Bar. Today was my 3rd time here. First time was when they first opened and it was a good experience, second time was not the best experience mostly due to some customer service issues and prevented me from going back until today. Today largely restored my faith in the customer service but the the joint is still a little odd/different. Since my first visit about five years ago the prices have gone up over 60% which is a little hard to swallow given my income has not gone up 60%. But it's also hard for me to fault the business owners for charging as much as they can to try and be sustainable and profitable. The place seems clean, and given how germ-a-phobic they are about Covid I have confidence that they have good food handling procedures (deffinitly not a criticism just an observation, they have roped off the area in front of the counter by about 3 feet so you can't even get too close.. it actually makes it a little awkward to pay it's like you have to stretch over to sign your credit card screen) All in all my meal was very good but at 60% higher I simply can't afford to eat here often. The portions in my opinion are pretty reasonable, and I have enjoyed eating their poke each time that I have gone. Compared to getting them in San Jose, I would say that they were a bit overpriced, but they were delicious, and I would say in general it's hard to get good quality Asian food in Marina, so I was pretty happy with the quality. Overall, if you live in the area, I would recommend them! So I eat eat here about 3x a week and historically the food and portion sizes are great. The service is a bit rushed and they tend to talk over the top of you and repeatedly interrupt you when you're trying to order... no big deal. But tonight the owner kind of pissed me off. I don't mind paying $19 for a bowl with 3 scoops of assorted fish plus a helping of crab and toppings. But they appear to have started overloading the bowls with rice and toppings, and don't think the customers are noticing that're grabbing just a couple pieces of each fish instead of a full serving scoop, and hiding it under the sauce & toppings. I am looking at the review from another patron as I write mine. She says it is her first time here and it won't be the last. I agree! This is my first visit to Poke House and I don't know for sure why I haven't been here before. Today, my hunger brought me here. I am so glad I did! The parking is easy and the COVID protocols are in full swing. You cannot enter without a mask. Social distancing is enforced with measured places on the floor. I was the only customer in the place and when another person came in the servers quickly told the to stand back. They have the sizes of the bowls up on the counter and in view. Which is nice as a newcomer to see the sizes. You choose a base, proteins, and toppings. My only minor complaint, and this is directed to COVID, is you have to stand back from the counter and cannot see the choices, but the excellent customer service made up for it. She offered me my choices. They have seaweed salad, corn, tofu, fried tofu, avocado, edamame, cucumber, and a plethora of sauces! And, you can choose the spiciness of meats. Tuna, spicy tuna, salmon, squid, and octupus. I may have missed some. So many choices and I was so hungry it was hard to decide. I stuck with some pretty standard toppings I knew I would like. My order, a regular bowl with brown rice, spicy tuna, regular tuna, spicy tuna, and it comes with crab salad, spicy or regular, I had regular. My toppings; edamame, seaweed salad, spicy tuna, regular salmon, regular tuna, and friend onions. A nice big scoop of the crab mixture. It was amazing! So good! The spicy tuna was just the right amount of spiciness. I am happy I did not go any spicier! I think why I haven't been her before is because it is fairly pricey. My opinion only. Honestly pretty decent Poke maybe even a 4.0 or 3.5 for food alone. The service is so weird though. It's like you are in a fascist regime. They are constantly yelling at you to go faster. Yelling at you for your son touching too many walls... yelling at you for who knows what. I really don't want to go ever again, but 1. They are literally the only poke place in Marina and 2. My wife requires Poke at times. By the way it cost $45 for two poke bowls. I can get real sushi and be treated like a human by a waiter/waitress for $45. I truly hate to leave a less than five star review for this place as me and my boyfriend do love the food and the employees and come here regularly. However I've noticed every single time I door dash from here they don't include utensils. Today I placed a door dash and left in the special comments to please include utensils. Had this meal delivered to my job with NO UTENSILS for the umpteenth time! Again in the grand scheme of things not a big deal and won't stop me from coming back but I wish the employees would pay more attention to special notes as it's very annoying to pay $48 for a meal and then have to go across the street to the gas station to buy a plastic fork when it should have already been included with my meal and this is the fourth or fifth time this has happened.
