This is the first time I went to this shop the "Main Auto Repair Shop", and I am very satisfied with my experience, great service. The plastic cover underneath the engine of my car is broken, so I bought a new one online and I need a lift to install it. So, I went to this shop and they installed it. They did it for free and they don't even charge the labor fee... The owner said "you're ok", we just want to make sure that your car is always in good shape. I made an appointment by phone for some ignition issues with my car. The gentleman on the phone was polite and was able to get me scheduled the next day. When I arrived I was immediately greeted and checked in by the technician Kyler. He was friendly and very knowledgeable about what was likely going on with my car. They followed up with me and gave me a quote for a reasonable price. I was able to have my car back by the next day. Upon pickup the same technician came in and talked to me about what service was completed, and was honest about an issue that may have happened with the the previous shop, who seemed to have not done the work they stated they did. As a woman I have been talked down to at plenty of auto shops, and I have to say that this was not the case here at all and I felt respected. I called a couple of places, trying to get a noise looked at that our van was having but everyone said the same thing "next week". I called Main street and talked to Brent who told me to bring it down and he would work us in! He changed the water pump and fan clutch and had it ready the next day! My check engine light came on and John was able to squeeze me in for a diagnostic. He ran it right in front of me and showed me that one of my spark plugs misfired. He wasn't pushy in having me go to them for service, in fact he even let me know that if I was mechanically inclined I could do it myself. Unfortunately for me my spark plugs are not easily accessible so I asked for a quote. The parts were more than both of us expected but I was able to find them online for cheaper. John took a look and OK'd the parts so I ordered them myself and we scheduled an appointment. I took my car in and it was finished around the timeframe he had set. If we could give them 6 stars we would have. Brent and his wife were wonderful and patient with us. We had just replaced an alternator and traveled from Utah to California with a failed water pump along the way. With a referral from a tow truck driver named Chris, who was parked at a nearby Pilot, we were able to get into the shop right as it closed for the day. On Brent's date night, which is why we thank his wonderful wife, Brent listened to our story and took mercy upon on us. He didn't guarantee us anything, but he was willing to take our vehicle in and work on it if he had time with the other customers ahead of us. We respected that. He was warm and kind and willing to try to get our vehicle done in time to drive back to Utah. He finished about 6 hours earlier than he estimated and always kept us in the loop along the way. read more

My truck is old, 2001 and I have to say pretty straight forward however my husband is no longer able to do work so before I say yes to the work, they will talk to my husband and we get it done. They were the only place that could take us when my husband called 4 other places as well. My car had a leak which ended up being a broken water pump. It was quite pricey but that's because of where the pump is on my car. They were finished quickly but I had to call to check on it instead of then letting us know which was a little strange. The other "5 star" reviews on here speak nothing but the TRUTH. If I could give the owners 10 stars, I absolutely would in a heartbeat. I'm from San Francisco and on my road trip to San Diego I had a quick stop in Lathrop to pick up my sister. My check engine light turns on "out of nowhere" and the engine suddenly dies when I put the car into gear. This was confusing because I just had the car smog checked, the oil changed and a 17 point inspection at Speedee Oil in Daly City earlier in the day. Once I got the car started my first stop was Auto Zone in Manteca, where they unfortunately "no longer assess check engine lights." This put me in a tough spot because the moment I pulled up to park at Auto Zone my engine dies again. This forced me to get on Yelp and find a mechanic in the area. The number one shop that showed up was Main Auto Repair. I gave them a call and left a message. In less than five minutes Bret, the owner, returned my call and kindly asked how he could help. He invited me to come to the shop so I did. Bret was extremely knowledgable about the possibilities of what the problem might be. His conversational, non-aggressive manner when providing information made me feel at ease. After running a free scan of my car he popped the hood and immediately found the problem. It happened to be a quick fix. Without hesitation he grabbed his tools and repaired a loose connection that was causing my engine to die. I asked Bret if there was a possibility that this was intentional. He referred me to the internet and invited me to research the potential scams that chain "oil change" businesses can practice. Thanks to Bret, now I know what to look for the next time I need my oil/ engine filter changed at one of these places. I asked how much the repair would cost and his wife/ front office manager, Angie, said "don't worry about it." I was so appreciative for their help and customer service that I tipped them anyway. This is truly the BEST mechanic experience I've had within the past 10 years of owning my car. This speaks volumes because I religiously have my car maintained every year at the dealership I purchased my car from. I'll be willing to drive all the way from San Francisco to get my car maintained here, from now on. Thank you Bret and Angie!!! Wow, what incredibly nice people! Our car broke down on the highway at 4pm on a Friday. We are not from here so turned to yelp. We had our car towed to Main Auto Repair and we arrived 10 minutes before they closed. They quickly assessed the damage and explained our problems to us. This repair was under warranty with my car guy in Dublin (45 minutes away), so we chose to have it towed to Dublin. He called the tow guy for us and stayed working in his office so my kids and I could stay in the air conditioning while we waited for our ride. I tried to pay him for his trouble, but he wouldn't take any money since he didn't do any direct work on the car. He even called me on my drive home and said he had done some research and wanted to make sure I told my car guy in Dublin to put in a new evaporator. He truly went above and beyond. If we lived in Manteca, this would be our new car repair place!! read more

here is the scoop...we all have serious trepidation when taking our beloved auto that isn't functioning properly to have it repaired! Its usually our most prized and necessary and somewhat evil possession! Phone doesnt count. I say that because I love my Audi A4 and yet it has returned my love by giving me some of the worst anxiety & headaches imaginable. Fast forward to Main Auto...aka Brent and his crew! Almost stranded in the middle of nowhere as my Audi returns my devotion by acting up, literally bringing me to tears! Honestly it only had 55k miles and needed everything imaginagble that cost lots of time and money. Yeah right! My first response is denial this cant be happening! And not possible I need so much work (the Audi) and with an expired warranty I really want to enter a crash derby at this point. Part of the fear..I am simply afraid to trust mechanics..because of so many news "expo-says" and bad experiences. Alas!!!! Let me share and set your mind at ease, as Brent and his crew did mine!! They're crooks. I've visited this shop twice, my first experience wasn't too great, I felt the front desk lady and the mechanic that ran my codes were rude. I ended up needing my converter fixed so they couldn't help me because they don't do those replacements. Anyways my reasoning for writing this review is the fact that they tried to get over on me. I got a diagnostic on my car yesterday morning. The owner said the work would be $1700+ tax for a new turbo. I decided to inquire with other shops on a quote because that seemed pretty high. Sure enough they tried to get over on me $500+ compared to the other prices given from MULTIPLE auto shops including the actual Chevy dealership (there it was only $300 more being that you typically pay a little more through the actual car dealership). Moral of the story always get price quotes from multiple shops before committing. read more

This place has 5 stars for a reason. I needed to get a brake service done to my car and when i first called This shop they were helpful to giving me an estimate on how much i would need pay. Other places i called said "it depends what your car needs" but not this place. They took the time to talk to me and gave me an estimate wo meeting me. When i finally made my decision to go with them. The owner even asked me if i would need a ride home. He and his wife are very kind and considerate of the customers. They took care of me right away and it seriously felt like i have known them forever even though it was only my first time there. When i came back to pick up my car they explained some things i should take care of in my car with genuine concern. Ok, so my wife broke down in our truck. I was stuck at work in Sacramento, being stranded she decided to start making phone calls. To further comment on another comment. Our car overheated which was a bad heater hose on our way to Oregon. This was the first auto shop that came up on google. I precalled to let them know we were towing a car over. I explained our situation. Once our car arrived they got on it, made the repair within an hour. Been taking my cars to Brent for some time now. What can I say when you find a great mechanic that has very reasonable prices, it brings a little peace of mind to your life. Brought my Toyota in for squeaky brakes, within an hour of dropping it off Brent called, I did not need 4 brakes just two, the cost was $240.00 and would be ready in two hours. imagine my surprise when two hours late the car was not only done, but was only$161.00. I brought in my 2006 Kia Sorento when it broke down on the freeway. They were clearly busy but got back to me within a few hours. My timing belt had jumped and Bret was very clear and explained the entire situation. He made sure I understood I could spend $1200 to fix the belt but it would be a 50/50 chance the vehicle would still work because the motor could be damaged. I really appreciated his honesty. I bought a new vehicle that day. It is rare to find a shop that doesn't try gouge you. I don't know much about cars, and have had issues with other shops in the past. Even though they didn't do any repairs they were kind and friendly and made the entire situation less stressful. I live in San Jose but if I need work done this shop is worth the trip!!!!! read more

We were over an hour away from home when our Tahoe started to overheat. Main Auto Repair was the closest shop with good reviews so we called to see if they could take us, finding out they were going to close in an hour. We got to the shop and Brent (the owner) and his team got right to it. They quickly found out the problem (broken clamp for the heater hose), fixed it, filled the coolant, and burped it. While Brent's staff were working, he quickly checked other things (lubing our creeky doors, checking our lights, taught us a trick to turn off our headlights, etc.) while telling us stories. I see all these great reviews and I'm wondering who he paid. This guy is a fast talking crook! He definitely comes off like a really good guy trying help. But its a farce. Let me share with you my experience. In January of 2013 I was looking for a car for my daughters 16th birthday......her first car. The owner (Brett) son owned a 2000 Audi that he was selling. He was asking $5000. I asked if he would take $4500. He said he would if I fixed the cracked windshield and ABS problem. The Abs light was on. I said I would rather have him fix it and pay $5000. So I did. Brett fixed the cracked windshield and attempted to fix the ABS but never did. My daughter only drove150 miles before the EPC (electronic power control) light came on. He attempted to fix it all the while knowing that there were major problems with the car. I took the car to Audi they told me there were so many problems with it that they said I should not put another dime into the car because it would cost more than its worth. I've had 3 mechanics look at it, including the Audi dealership and all 3 of them told me he put a quick fix on it to sell it. They said there was no way he didn't know about the problems if he was a mechanic. I didn't know who or what to believe until I asked hem what he was willing to do about it and he said " just fix it so it runs long enough to sell it to someone on Craigslist." Now I know who to believe! The car has been sitting in my driveway for 6 months! Wont run and I'll probably have to donate it. Oh, I forgot to mention I put a new turbo, battery and tires on it! The thing I have the biggest problem with is that he gave his word that this was a safe car. He said it was his sons and he would never let his son drive a car that wasn't safe. The car powers down when the EPC light comes on and my daughter could have been killed! Her car powered down on Hwy99, near Stockton where they are performing road work. Her car powered down in between the two cement barriers where there is no shoulder on the road. An honest mechanic NEVER would have sold a car to a 16 year old that could have cost her life! read more

Basically anyone looking to get honest service should go to Main Auto Repair. I brought in my vehicle to get it serviced before a long trip and because they have a real "thorough" checklist, they found out that I had a bad water pump. This saved me a huge headache that definitely would have happened during the trip. I did my research and priced everything out, and they came in at a fair price. For what I got done, it was not cheap but it was not outrageous. You definitely get what you are paying for. They are upfront and talk you through what's going on with the vehicle before you even agree to anything. I have never felt more comfortable with auto repair before. I even received a complimentary car wash . Not to mention , they buffed out a huge paint mark from another car some time ago for nothing. That blew my mind. There were many positives in my first experience with them. I'm am so happy to FINALLY have found a place that I can go to for all auto services. Found this place on yelp was impressed with the reviews my daughters car broke down on I-5 and we needed someone to look at it. I sent her the name . When she called to ask for the car to be towed and looked at the guy on the phone laughed at her and said it the car started it was fine.:(( he wasn't going to waste his time looking at it. Once again, in NEED of help on my Mini Van. It was sputtering & dying at stop lights. I called the mechanic that rebuilt it less than 2yrs ago long before meeting Brent & Angie and was told it was the throttle body. I Tow for a local Tow Co. & have brought dozens of customers in need of assistance there for mechanical problems over the last 17 months, NOT once have I heard ANYTHING negative about Main Auto, The worst complaint I heard was that the customers car couldn't be repaired THAT DAY & it was his work truck. At Main Auto there is really no such thing as FAST Svc. It is a timely service & NEVER, EVER do you want a FAST MECHANIC. Fast Mechanics make fast mistakes & don't want to own up to their mistakes & pass the bill onto you. NOT at Main Auto. They get it right everytime, the first time. The Tech that takes the time to do the job right is the mechanic you want, I also can not say enough about the pricing. BEST RATES in Town & ABOVE & BEYOND Cust. Svc. at Main Auto. I will never let another mechanic work on ANY of my cars ever again so long as there is a Main Auto Repair I can turn to. P.S. The issue that was causing my Mini Van to run rough & stall out was a simple hose with with a kink in it. Under $5 to fix. Brent showed me the part & sent me to get a new one. I have a 2006 Nissan Armada. I have been to many auto repair shops. By far this place meet my expectations. I brought my own rotors and pads and he charged me close to half what others charged. Also, a Plus, without the sales pitch he breaks down the process on what needs to be done. Another Big Plus, you will learn something about your car when talk to him about your car problems.
