Today I got a very awesome surprise by trying the Main Street Cafe' in Crystal City, MO. Just a short drive from the city of St. Louis, this hidden gem is a must try! We were seated by a young man, in training named Aiden and he was pleasant and cheerful, gave us our menus and ordered our drinks. Awesome. Proudly serving Pepsi products, I must say that the post-mix is perfect (not too sweet and the right amount of carbonation - awesome.). Soon we were visited by our server, Destiny, who was very nice and upbeat. Awesome. I ordered the Gyro Burger ( monstrous burger with lettuce tomato, and onions topped with what the menu only called "Gyro Meat" (please say yee-roh). Well, let me confirm that it is indeed absolutely authentic schwarma! Some of the best I have ever had! With tzatziki sauce and feta cheese. AWESOME. A huge bowl of amazing fries on the side, and I spent 20 minutes in heaven. Recently had lunch here & glad we gave it a 2nd try! Much better this time around! My hubby had Cajun burger & fries & I had a Smash burger. They were all freshly made & hot & very tasty! This diner is an amazing hidden gem in Crystal city and for the area in general. The food has a down home feel and the prices are incredibly modest. Servers are great and you get your food quick. Their menu has a variety of options from comfort foods like meatloaf, fried chicken, and pony shoe to healthier options like their very generously proportioned chef salad. We love the breakfast menu, which is served all day. We also enjoy their salad options. It's your usual breakfast place that offers things like pancakes, eggs, potatoes, toast, etc. I ordered an omelet that is stuffed with peppers, onions, mushrooms, and cheese. It also came with a side of potatoes which I thought were bland, so I added a decent amount of salt and pepper. The decorations and inside kind of set me off since it's so dark and all open space. It kind of looks like it used to be an old cafeteria or dining hall. The dark brick was accented with a darker gray wall paint and minimal wall decorations, so it just seemed a little depressing. I'm very disappointed here today. There was a family with a special needs child that had a can of soda. They said she will only drink from a can. They proceeded to tell them she couldn't have the can in there. The simple solution would of been to just charge them for a soda instead the family left. Very poor service and not the way to treat your customers. I hope they never have to deal with special needs in their family. read more

You don't come to the Main Street cafe for the ambiance or decorations; you come for the food. Could it be more polished? Sure. But who cares? The staff are constantly moving, turning over tables and getting people what they need. I've never seen the bottom of a cup of coffee there. I honestly have only ever ordered breakfast here because their home fries and corned beef hash are too good to try anything else. Unfortunately I wasn't impressed when I went here for the first time and don't think I'll be back. When we got seated it took forever for them to come take our order then it was coming up on closing time by the time we got our food and one of the bus boys started vacuuming the floor and actually was vacuuming under tables that people were still eating out.
