The owner came out to greet us as we were with one of the original customers when Cindy started this establishment. The prices catch your eye, as most sandwiches are under $10. Wonderful Cafe! We are out of town visitors looking for a great place to eat lunch that had carry out. Our group had 2 kids and a baby so we did not want a sit down. Great little place. I have been to Kimmswick several times but never really knew this café existed. I thought it was just a storefront. Their prices are outstanding. They offer a two for $8.99 combo. I picked the half market Street special sandwich and half southwest chicken salad. The salad was a great size. Really delicious. The sandwich was on the smaller side but enough. It's not a bad place but I wasn't impressed. My wife and I ate on the patio. The plants were all dead or dying. My wife had chicken salad and I had a turkey club. We both had the potato casserole. My wife said the chicken salad was okay but I thought my sandwich was pretty bad. The turkey was mushy like it was previously frozen with bits of what I guess was supposed to be bacon but it had no taste. The pretzel bun was kinda squished. I've seen better rolls at Walmart. I know they didn't make the pickle but whatever brand they use is mushy with a chewy skin. I didn't get sick from it but I think next time I'm in Kimswick, I'll try another restaurant. read more

We got their catering for my parents anniversary party and we're very impressed. The baked pasta with pink sauce was super tasty. Little bits of chicken in it. Everyone at the party loved it. Usually love this restaurant and their food. Today it was such a disappointment. I got a small Chicken Ceaser salad with light Ranch dressing. Firstly, there were only a few minute pieces of chicken. The rest was covered in croutons and Parmesan Cheese. They gave you a very small plastic container of salad dressing that was only a few tablespoons full. It made the salad very dry and tasteless. Finally the waiter came back when we were close to being finished but I asked for more dressing because it was so bad. Again was give a small container. I ate the remainder. When I received the bill I was charged an extra 50 cents for the dressing. Total was $8.13 for a dry, small salad with not real identifiable chicken pieces. My lunch mate also had the same experience of not many if the listed ingredients in her salad and also requested kit dressing for her dry salad. When people think of Kimmswick they often think of the Blue Owl (which is great!) because of its Food Network fame, but the Dough Depot is one of the best highlights of my trips to Kimmswick and honestly my favorite restaurant in town. If you like pretzel bread, you are going to love this place. The hot ham and cheese sandwiches on a pretzel bun, the homemade soups and salads, and the appetizers based on their pretzels (Like the pretzel bread, pretzel bites, or big pretzel with cheese) are sooo good! This is my favorite spot for lunch and the prices can't be beat. The inside is nice and cozy, but they also have plenty of outdoor seating for when the weather is nice.
