Main Street Cinema is located along Main street, U.S.A in Disneyland Park. After watching the Flag Retreat ceremony, my husband and I stopped inside Main Street Cinema. It originally opened in the park in 1955! The Main Street Cinema has the design based on a Victoria inspired facade, and an old fashioned big box office window! Inside the theater, features several small screens showing vintage films. Over the years, the lineup has shifted. The Cinema is known for it's screening of Steamboat Willie from 1928, the very first synchronized sound cartoon featuring Mickey Mouse! There are some benches that you can sit inside and watch the films. It's also air conditioned if you're looking to take a break during the summer! It's a nice place to enjoy some history and being immersed in the magic of Main Street at Disneyland! It's one of Disneyland's Hidden Gems! read more

I like this little makeshift theatre on Main Street, U.S.A. that showcases some of Walt Disney's earliest animated films. "Steamboat Willie" is the highlighted animated feature because it is the short that made Mickey Mouse a star. It also introduced the world to synchronized sound. The Main Street Cinema is a cool little spot to walk inside and rest. It's not very big, but enough space to walk in and enjoy some air conditioning. There's multiples tv screens playing black and white Disney movies/ skits. It's pretty neat to see them, but does get boring after a while. You gotta check this out once. Then you've seen it. If it's raining outside or you just want to take a break, a hack is to grab a drink (mine was London Fog Hot Tea) at Starbucks next door and chill in here while watching classic Mickey films. If you need to kill time waiting for your return time or just to decompress at the parks, this is a great attraction to go to. ESPECIALLY in the summer since it has AC on. This is a vintage cinema with a ticket box outside for photo opportunities. There are some benches inside facing 6 different screens and a center area where you can relax as well. They play nostalgic Disney animated shorts (the good ol' black and white features). Some of the shorts they show are: 1) Steamboat Willie (1928) 2) Plane Crazy (1928) 3) The Moose Hunt (1931) 4) Traffic Troubles (1931) 5) The Dognapper (1934) 6) Mickey's Polo Team (1936) Each short is about 6 - 8 minutes long and you can just move on to the next screen if you want to be out of the blazing hot sun outside. read more

Of all the times going to Disneyland and walking by this but never went in to see what it was all about. Well this is a small place you walk into a room with a circle stage in the middle where people sit or lay down on. Around the room are movie screens showing old black and white films of Mickey of course it is interesting each screen is showing a different cartoon it is a bit overwhelming if you're not seeing it from the start but I guess it the Disney magic where you just watch no matter if it's not from the start. This is a great place to lounge and warm up on a cold night or maybe cool off on a hot day haven't done that but this was a great spot to thaw off for a bit when being in the cold night. read more

This attraction at Disneyland has NO line what so ever. How awesome is that? Wait.. There is a movie cinema on Main Street? That statement is what most people say about the Main Street Cinema. I am even guilty of not remembering that the cinema is there. It is a small opening between two huge stores so it is really easy to walk right by. The main reason this gets 5 stars is because it is still the same cinema that it was when Disneyland opened in 1955. There are still the classic Disney movies such as Steamboat Willie with the introduction of Mickey Mouse playing. When you walk in past the ticket attendant (not a real person) you enter into a room with 6 different screens in the room with 6 different classic Disney movies playing. There is no seating, it was said there is "standing room only". There is a set of steps up to a platform that is a few feet above the ground so the little ones can see over anyone else in the room. I recommend watching from this vantage point. Make sure you check out the Mickey shaped lights on the steps on the way up to the platform. Enjoy the movies and enjoy the Disney history all at once. :0) read more

From the blank stare ticket booth mannequin (who kind of likes me), to the unnecessary, thick, propeller-like turnstile, to the overly air-conditioned, hard, flat, chair-less dark, surprisingly unmanned, tiny theater showing the same traditional old collection of rotating silent animated shorts, to the massive dense red curtains to the marquee and cigar shop indian out front, this untouched time capsule of an attraction is an anomaly. read more

They play 6 old Disney classic short cartoons - including the one that got it all started in the first place: Mickey Mouse's first show, Steamboat Willie. Bring the children in - they will be enthralled by these fun slap-stick humor cartoons. Make sure they see Steamboat Willie and explain to them that it is the first ever Mickey Mouse cartoon - and important point of history all can learn. This is one of my favorite attractions at Disneyland. Nestled away on Main Street, it's like stepping into a time capsule of Walt Disney's legacy. There's 6 screens each playing a different classic Mickey Mouse cartoon (including Steamboat Willie), and playing cutesy organ music over it all. Peel away the veneer of the overpriced balloons, the crazy lines, the commercializations and you're left with Main Street Cinema; one man with a pure dream that would twist and turn to change the world. This is one of the more forgotten attractions at Disneyland, but it's a good one! As Eric N. said, it is the same cinema that was there when Disneyland opened in 1955. They play 6 classic Disney movies, including Steamboat Willie. There are no benches or chairs, but it's not so bad to stand through 6 short little cartoon films. If you usually rush right by and head towards the rides (like I normally do), sometime you should stop by here and check it out. There's never a line and it's a quiet, fun place to escape a particularly hot day. This little cinema is standing room only but it shows different black and white classic Disney cartoons on multiple screens. Of course one screen shows "Steamboat Willie" and another shows one of my all-time favorites, "Plane Crazy." Accompanied by classic piano music, this is a fun way to take a break from the crazy lines elsewhere in the park. It makes me smile when I'm in here and I hear toddlers as well as senior citizens laughing at Mickey's antics. Disney cartoons truly are timeless. read more

I remember the first time I visited Disneyland, I was five years old. My poor father took me around the park while my mom and sister went on all the thrill rides. I only wanted to visit and see a few attractions during the whole time we were at the park; my father was such a trooper. We went to Main Street Cinema, the Country Bear Jamboree and the Dumbo ride. Those were definitely my favorite attractions when I was little. Anyways, correct me if I am wrong but I remember the Main Street Cinema was different back then in the 1980s during my first visit to Disneyland. It was an actual theater where you can sit down and watch the big screen that airs Mickey Mouse cartoons. The screen was surrounded by big red curtains and the rows of seats were red colored and cushiony; it was definitely a nice attraction to visit to break away from the heat and the crowds. On a more recent visit to the park, I noticed the cinema was different. The cinema changed to about five to six tv screens that air old black and white vintage Mickey Mouse cartoons from the 1920s to the 1930s; one of the most popular cartoons they aired was Steamboat Willie. There was sadly though no big screen and no rows of seats either. People just stood up and moved from tv screen to tv screen to watch the cartoon shorts. I remember feeling a little disappointed that it wasn't the same as I remembered but I do still love this attraction and watching the old cartoons is a reminder of Disney's dream and vision coming to life. read more

This is always guaranteed to be my first stop here in D land. Not just because I Love Steamboat Willie! But due to the history of the building. You can get a good sense of how things were not just the difference in the cartoons, but design of the building it even has that nostalgic smell. back in the day, there was nothing better than getting a scoop of fantasia from the gibson girl and sitting in this very well air-conditioned room on a sweltering day,..but alas, gibson girl stopped carrying fantasia. oh well. its still nice to sit here on a hot day. the lights are dim and the old school cartoons play on a loop. :) and they never get boring! ^^ read more

One of those "hidden" and too often passed over places, the Main Street Cinema is something that all Disney-buffs should visit at least once. If at least not to pay homage to basically the earliest beginnings of Walt Disney. It's a place to comfortably watch his old black and white original movies.
