Although this is a daytime breakfast/lunch cafe, they serve authentic Jamaican food during dinner hours on the weekends. My husband and I order the black bean stew and the red snapper every Friday. The food is delicious and always fresh. The cook who I prepare the Jamaican food is originally from Jamaican so the food is authentic Jamaican food. Our meal is always ready within 25-30 minutes and the staff always know our order when we call it in...The restaurant is very charming and warm, it feels like grandma's kitchen but with plenty of seating. The bar counter top has the history of St Peter's inscribed in it. There's a small parking lot for guest as well as a handicap ramp. This place is quickly becoming my favorite spot. I've gone with family and with friends for breakfast on Sunday mornings. I always get the vegetarian egg white omelette and hash browns. The ingredients are so fresh! The coffee is also yummy! The people make it feel like you are eating at home with family. We've also gone on Saturday night for the authentic Jamaican cuisine. The jerk chicken and plantains took me back to my vacation to Jamaica. My friend likes oxtails and they did not disappoint! Again, great service and great food! read more

Ownership changed in February 2022 but this was a first visit so I can't comment on before/after changes. However, I'd heard many good things about Main Street Diner and came away unimpressed. Firstly, "diner" usually conjures images of a large menu of breakfast to late night dessert items. MSD is only open to early afternoon so the menu--which seemed abbreviated--contained some standard breakfast meals and lunch sandwiches. The scrambled eggs were satisfactory and came with a toasted English muffin. A large side bowl of mixed fruit could have been a separate main item. My fried egg, bacon, and ham sandwich was much like an Egg McMuffin on whole wheat bread--acceptable but not outstanding. For a breakfast place, there were no jam/jelly packets on the tables. Variety is offered: our server promoted the next day's Jamaican Day menu that included oxtail, jerk chicken, and Creole items. We came in with the intention to purchase a gift certificate for a friend who likes independent restaurants. "That's in the pipeline but not offered now," was the response. Stunning, considering you can easily make a gift certificate in Microsoft Word. The interior was bright and cheery in this former ranch house. read more

We found this little spot in a charming part of St. Peter's that we didn't even know existed. Walking in, I immediately noticed how CLEAN this diner is. We were greeted right away and told we could sit anywhere we'd like so we opted for a table right up front. Our server was a friendly young lady with an absolutely pleasant attitude. You can tell she likes her job and as it turns out, she's good at it. We started with coffee and Mountain Dew. Hands down, my husband says it's the best coffee he's probably ever had. He could tell that a coffee lover works there. I was equally impressed with the soda, it was apparent that their fountain machine was calibrated perfectly. For most that's not a big deal but to me it is. I'd go back for the soda alone. The menu was simple, but straightforward and our food was served fast. I got the #7 which had eggs, biscuits and gravy, hash browns and some of the best bacon I've ever had. Oh my goodness, that bacon... I'll no doubt have dreams of it. My husband chose the French toast which he said was excellent. The batter they use isn't your normal plain Jane egg wash. Theirs has a smattering of korintje cinnamon and it made a ton of difference. Overall the food was great and in my opinion a bargain. While finishing up we chatted with the owner who is just the sweetest lady. Personally, we love supporting small family owned businesses, especially when they're owned by good people. All in all, we'd absolutely recommend this place to anyone wanting a good meal for a decent price in a clean atmosphere. I know we will be back. read more

My first time here after the change of ownership. Arrived later (about 9 am). Was surprised to see the parking lot nearly empty. Once inside the staff was very friendly. The menu didn't seem as varied as before. (Printed on place mat) The food was ok, I got what I ordered. The one thing that surprised me, was the gravey was dark(I'm used to white breakfast gravey) that being said, It tasted good. Received the bill, all was in order. Presented my CC. Got my charge slip back to tip and sign...... They added $1.10 to my bill for using my card. I saw no signs any where. My server did not warn me while taking my card. My server did not inform me when giving me the charge slip. The service fee for using CCs is one of my pet peeves to begin with, but to sneek it on the bill.... I probably won't be back read more

The employees of MSD are doing a great job with carry outs for fish fry Friday. The place was hopping, so just have a little patience, it's worth it! Get the catfish dinner. It's a nice thick filet, seasoned well, crispy, and not "fishy" at all. They have a great variety of sides, of which you choose two. And definitely order the hush puppies, crispy outside and fluffy inside. The portions are enough for my dinner and lunch tomorrow. Family run place with a great breakfast. Its pretty small inside, but its not that bad. Friendly staff, just overall good old fashioned diner ambiance. I had the biscuits and gravy, which was excellent, and my niece had the waffle with strawberries that was presented so nicely she had to take a pic of it. The owners are Jamaican and serve their home cuisine on Friday nights, so looking forward to coming in for some jerk chicken or curried goat soon! The right place for a quick brunch.. The people here are so friendly, very nice ambiance, you can smell the coffee pouring and their menu doesn't disappoint. We went here after hockey practice and my son is super hungry. The food is just enough to fill you up and it's super affordable and very reasonably priced for the amount. Excellent old-school diner conveniently located across the highway from Mid Rivers Mall. I've only ever been there for breakfast so I can't speak about anything else. All the breakfast options are great. The service is good, the waitresses are friendly, the decor is appropriate. Portions are large and the prices are reasonable. I recommend the fried potatoes, the ham, and the pancakes. For something different try the corned beef hash. The only downside is the parking lot. There's only parking for about 12 cars, so I've had to go elsewhere when the lot is full. read more
