"Regular"-sized Southwest Salad ($16.95) is enormous.
    Tracey A.

Main Street Pizza (aka Basement) has in the kitchen a chef with a creative flair. An enormous Southwest Salad and Fish Tacos - plated with care - were followed with this remark: "It's goodish". Neither could be what I'd describe as actually good, but it was apparent that someone had put a lot of time and care into the preparation and presentation of these offerings. They bordered on beautiful. That said, the salad left me to comment that I wasn't sure the creator understood the assignment. The combination of chicken, iceberg lettuce, tortilla chips, olives, avocado, hot peppers, and more proved somewhat off balance and would've benefited from a tastier dressing. Still, even the "regular"-sized salad left me full with enough remaining for a whole second meal. And the fish tacos were 100% consumed in spite of the feeling that they too fell short of delicious. Main Street Pizza/Basement is a causal spot which feels a bit more like a bar with food than a restaurant with a bar. I think it may be the only place in Colfax at which to satisfy an urge for a late lunch on a Monday afternoon and in that they proved successful.

Came to Colfax for the first time to check it out and stumbled across this quaint bar and pizzeria. It was clearly family owned and ran like we were part of their family. Ordered breadsticks and came with a pretty large portion. Service was great and prices were decent. The family like atmosphere was definitely the best part of the visit.

Worked with Jake to arrange a delivery for my birthday for 20 people. He made it very easy. Delivery showed up when he said it would even though it was a ways away and hard to find. Kudos to the driver. We had a bunch of pizzas and wings and it was all absolutely delicious. Thanks again Jake for helping me celebrate.

Went for a Sunday drive and got lunch. Got a huge family house salad (enough for 6-10 people depending on how much salad you eat). Got a large pepperoni pizza too. Delicious. Can't wait for the leftovers. Warm and cozy on a fresh January day. Great service at this family runned small business. Highly recommend.

Passing Colfax my buddies and I decided to stop by the local pizza joint. I went on yelp to check out the reviews before we sat down and ordered anything, I was excited because yelp reviews were positive. Unfortunately thats not what my buddies and I thought, pepperoni pizza was extremely cheesy, insane amount of pepperoni ( see pictures) , pizza was put together VERY Lazy. Crust was okay, I wish it was more airy. Pizza sauce not impressive at all and our diet Pepsi were flat. Place was a bit run down, staff were polite and friendly. Being VERY Generous, I give this place a 3

Looking for a fresh pizza piled with cheese and loaded with toppings? Want to get a workout lifting a slice? Enjoy finger-licking wings drenched in a sauce of your choosing? This is the place for you! Went in as a party of two to enjoy some pints while ordering our meal to-go--service was excellent, friendly and not rushed. Great prices, and the medium pizza & 10 wings made for leftovers. The place was spacious, and there were a couple of patrons there and a few more that came in while we waited. Food was swiftly prepared and packaged for us, with Rebelution serenading us during our stay.

If you are hungry Colfax's Pub called The Basement has great food, beer, wine pizza, salad, wings, fajitas, and football... 46 N. Marin St., Colfax, CA. 95713; 530-346-8200. Opens for food and merriment at 11:30 am. The fajita was gigantic and I ended up with a meal for either dinner tonight or lunch tomorrow... yummy. Staff are most pleasant, and the food is made individually to our taste, so everything is worth mellowing out and relaxing for ... Only 20 minutes from Auburn, CA, or 25 minutes on Highway 174 from Grass Valley. Click the "directions" link in the right side of the page. Colfax also has a huge thrift store with lots of great inventory, clothing, electronics, and the staff is great.

For the last three months, I've been seeing Subway commercials advertising the "Comin' on Hot" sandwich, using ghost pepper bread. I detest commercials, and I usually ignore the advertisement, but the "foodie" in me got the best of me, and I couldn't help myself but to succumb... The Colfax Subway restaurant is unique, as it's a "standalone" building, unlike most Subway stores you'll visit. It's located just off busy Interstate 80, and the restaurant receives lots of traffic from the freeway. Besides the truckers, tourists and freeway travelers, this restaurant is a favorite of western Placer County locals who are in the mood for a decent sandwich. From the advertised, "Comin' On Hot" menu, I went with a #34, the "Spicy Nacho Steak" sandwich. The menu describes this sandwich as, "Steak, 2x Cheddar cheese sauce, onions, peppers, jalapeno peppers. Creamy Siracha, SubKrunch toasted." The menu didn't mention the much touted on television "ghost pepper bread." I guess that was in the "SubKrunch?" By my request, I added sliced tomatoes, shredded lettuce and olives, as I love to load up a sandwich as much as possible, as veggies are an absolute delight. The sandwich began with the "SubKrunch" roll, which, according to the media advertisements, was ghost pepper bread. The bread roll was fresh and crunchy, with large bites that went "crunch" when I bit into the sandwich. Where were the ghost peppers - ghost peppers are reportedly the hottest chili peppers on the planet - as the bread definitely had a slight "kick," but where was the ghost pepper burn that I was looking for? The sandwich included a smaller size portion of marinated steak, thinly sliced and grilled to perfection. As per the advertisements, Cheddar cheese sauce, Siracha sauce, onions, diced bell pepper and pickled jalapeno pepper slices graced the sandwich. Tomato slices, shredded lettuce and olives were added on my request, as the friendly staff at Subway will make your sandwich to your order. With my first bite, I was rewarded with a taste sensation, as the meat, cheese sauce, veggies, and the ghost pepper bread all worked together to made for a great sandwich. But... ghost pepper bread? ... where was the heat? Yes, there was a bit of a "kick" to the sandwich, but it wouldn't have been enough to offend a grade school girl, much less a seasoned veteran of Mexican dining like your author. This sandwich was delicious to the taste, but when it came to "ghost pepper" was as tame as your grandmother's little kitten on a lazy Sunday afternoon. I absolutely laugh at the difference between the sandwich showcased in television commercials, and the "real" sandwich that you actually get at the restaurant. The difference is stunning... if you've ever seen the advertisements on television, you know what I mean, and I'll let you draw your own conclusion. $10.29, plus state sales tax for a 6-inch, highly advertised, custom made sub sandwich. Hmmmm... the price of admission seems to be on the steep... way too steep side of the sandwich fence for me. It is what it is, and now my curiosity has been satisfied, and I now can watch the NFL playoffs, along with the Superbowl knowing that I've enjoyed a Subway "Comin' In Hot" sandwich, with ghost pepper bread.
