Located just off Main Street just up Dos Caminos. The owner/operate is quick, efficient and knows his stuff! He is also very quick. I dropped my truck off and picked it up a half hour later. Unfortunately, it had some issues and I had to take it to my mechanic to fix them. Re-testing was only $20 and $8 for the certificate. This time I waited and he was done in 15-20 minutes. Will not return. Twice in the past 12 months we have taken a vehicle and both times for different reasons it was deemed necessary to return to pay again for a retest. First time vehicle wasn't "ready" so they did nothing. After being corrected by dealer, they had us pay again despite the fact they did nothing the first time around. Second vehicle had a hairline crack in air intake piece. All numbers passed just fine. When we returned the vehicle to show piece was replaced, we had to pay again. I brought my Vanagon in for a test. The mechanic listened to the idle and told me that it was so unstable that it would fail if he put it on the test machine. I took it home and found that a plug fixing a vacuum leak had fallen out. He could have done the test and charged me extra money for two tests. Don't go here. My car was inspected and maintained by dealership before smog test. Runs great no smog problems.then Juan tells me a hose is missing. It's an automatic fail. If that hose was missing the dealership would have seen it car had just been inspected. Why would he charge me or test it if hose was missing and it's an automatic fail? Engine is dusty. Interesting where this hose was missing it's sparkling clean as hose was just mysteriously gone. I saw Juan with screwdriver in his hand under the mirror they have above customers car hood. All of a sudden my timing is completely off according to his machine. Car had no timing issues. Coupons are not honored even though the coupon is from /for their own shop 68.00 dollars plus 30 more for a retest. Juan complained how he is doing me a favor to test an older car. I was looking to fit in a smog test after work so I drove over to Thompson Smog Only. But apparently it's a tire shop so I said fine and tried Crown Smog. Which of course moved so that location is a Chevron now. I said okay last try and came over to Main Street Smog. Rolled up around 45 minutes before closing but they said with two people in front of me they could still fit me in. While I was waiting I saw that this place had more than a few negative reviews so I was a little nervous. But less than 30 minutes later they were done and I was out the door. My experience at this Star certified smog test center was quick & easy. I found a coupon on-line for a $33.75 test, plus $8.25 for the DMV certification which applied to '96 models and younger. Unfortunately, I didn't notice this exclusion until showing up for the smog test and learned that the discount didn't apply in my case. Not sure what more you could want in a smog testing place. Friendly, no BS, quick, helpful. After experiences at Smog centers that felt kind of sketchy (you know, you get the sense that for a fee they will sprinkle magic dust on your car so you can pass, that sort of thing), this was just all positive. Only issue is you don't know it's there unless you make the extra effort to seek it out. It's between Pacific View Mall and 5 points, and it's on the same side of the Main as the mall -- but it's just off the street, really on S Dos Caminos, and it faces Dos Caminos as well. Had an absolutely horrendous experience at this place. They took my money and smogged my car, it barely failed. I came back for my free retest and they informed me that I had needed to go to a Star Certified Smog shop in the first place. I wanted my money back but they promised that they would be Star Certified by the following week (the week before my tags were up). Flash forward to the following week and no phone call. They finally called a few days before my tags were due and said I could come by for my retest. When I showed up at 2:45 in the afternoon they were closing shop and said they didn't have time for me. I went somewhere down the street and it passed no problem. AVOID THIS SHOP!!!! There are too many shops around here to risk dealing with these guys. read more

I've been here twice now, in the past six months, for two of my cars. Each time, I've not had to wait more than 10-15 minutes until my car is processed. I have a stock, Chevy s10.... And this guy starts climbing under my car telling me that I don't have enough O2 sensors, that my intake doesn't look right and that he's going to have to flag me!! He was trying to tell me that I needed to pay him for all kinds of work. Luckily I didn't give him my info before he started to try to rip me off and then asked for my registration paperwork. Place has new owner. Sum it up as. The owner is very rude. First time i ever met him, he told me re-test was $20. When i used to go here the other owner had a free retest. I asked him "it used to be free?" his reply " I used to be 21" and not in a funny manner. Car failed smog. Next time i came back, I waited 30 minutes when it was my car next he got in and honked at me as i sat at the table waiting. He honked at me to get the keys, even though he was literally 10ft away and simply could have asked. The whole time seemingly annoyed I was even there. Then he basically yelled at me for my timing being off (I an not a mechanic, In reality when i took it to a very respectable mechanic the timing line was washed over with some grime and dirt so was not visible until cleaned off) After this un pleasant back and fourth I decided to take it to Smogies. I was actually treated like a paying customer instead of some annoyance. I would not recommend this place to anyone for any reason. Quite funny that this company's site indicates that they pride themselves with friendly service. My experience today was quite the oppositeI Jose gave me a price quote (not willing to match others) that I accepted and requested a rag and screwdriver so that I could remove the carpeted area over the engine. (That way I could ensure that the paint was not scratched.) Once removed, this reveals the engine cover which has five screws that need to be taken out. So he gives ME a ratchet and I start removing these screws, all the while thinking to myself why I am doing HIS work. I remove all 5 screws and now he wants me to actually remove the cover!! Keep in mind that I am in my 60's, and not a frickin mechanic. I tell him I'm leaving and to give me my paperwork back, and he REFUSES to give it to me. First time my car failed the smog test because of the fuel leaks somewhere. I brought my car to the dealer had it fixed. Then brought it back to re-test the next day, he did NOT believe me I had it fixed, he even went underneath the car with special tool to re-scan for the fuel leak, even when re-test machine had passed my car!
