Thankfully they were open a little later than the regular scheduled close time. When you enter and smell the fresh sweet smells it's a sensory overload. Then as you start to look at the countless menu boards of options that are available for your ice cream, the cakes, the cookies, etc. It's hard to pick just one thing. The owner was there and still working and was exceptionally helpful. Explaining how all the ice cream was home made and was eager to give samples and encouraged having more samples. Once I tasted the cake batter it was a little easier to make a final decision, make it into a shake and I was all set. Thick and creamy with the perfect cake batter flavor, the overall quality was probably the best I've ever had. So glad they were still open and will make sure to stop by next time I'm in the area. If you haven't been here it should be a priority. read more

Delicious ice cream and really very good on being safe. I got the Marlainas weave- great vanilla with chocolate chips, Heath bar and caramel- really is excellent vanilla taste- and then the add ons. The smell of freshly made waffles and sweetness in the air is intoxicating as you walk in the front door. You get in line and anxiously wait your turn to view the multitude of inventive flavors. Diet? What diet you think. I ain't on no diet today! There are so many great flavors to choose from! I counted over thirty, and all are homemade with natural ingredients. You almost try to convince yourself that you are eating healthy! I could tell this is a well liked local place by the lines I constantly saw here over the weekend. Yes, I have to admit that I ended up on that line twice. Bad bad bad boy! I love that they offer a sampler cup which is an ingenious way to try out five different flavors of mini scoops. It's like a pu-pu platter of sugary goodness! Cheap too at only $3.25 and totally worth it as this cup offers just enough to satisfy the ice cream cravings. Oh, who am I kidding, as I could have eaten three of these at a sitting! Still, it was crazy good. Toasted coconut, cookie monster, fairy dust, rum raisin, I Do cake batter, mint chocolate chip, Oreo bomb, rasberry chocolate truffle, and pure pistachio were some of the awesome flavors that landed in my cup over the weekend. Their ice cream is just so creamy and flavorful. Plenty of eats and great service. They happily hand out samples when asked. The place is clean and fun looking like an old timey main street ice cream shop. There are old school retro signs all over the walls, and a giant mural along the main wall depicting the Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown landscapes and historic points. Also, it's cash only here. Holy yum! I am a huge ice cream person and I can be pretty picky.. However, their coffee ice cream with caramel ribbon and Oreos is so yummy! Everyone with me wanted to have a bite. Fantastic ice cream! Went here with a friend after dinner and we were very impressed. He had a mocha almond cone and I had one that had sweet cream, caramel, & heath bar pieces. You could taste the cream, it was so delicious and rich. Now I know why there was such a long line in the place, the ice cream is out of this world. The guys behind the counter looked to be about 12, but hey, they were working hard. Great ice cream, really nice looking shop. read more

The best ice cream in Tarrytown! I have been going to Main Street Sweets for my entire life and have always loved it! I normally get a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of Cookie Monster in a waffle cone and it is delicious. They have so many flavors and toppings. The service is always great! I can get busy, especially during the summer, but I have found that the service is still efficient and they do not leave you waiting for very long at all. We walked in to just check it out, since we were strolling by and it was a pleasant surprise! The store is very unique and the owner clearly did as much as he or she could in creating a memorable space with the wall murals and creative menu signs. It's very clean, and well-kept too. I chose to try Peach Melba which has peach and raspberry and Rum Raisin. They were a delicious treat! Extremely creamy, buttery like, very soft and delicate, so if you are in the mood for solid ice cream, this may not be your place. I did not know they only take cash, and although they do have an atm, they offered to pay for me as long as I Venmo'ed him back and of course I did and gave him a bit extra for his trouble! This place is adorable. Once you order, sit down and just have fun looking around at all the signs and decorations they have in there. THe selection is vast. Ice Cream of virtually every flavor you could think of...and some you never thought existed. My wife settled on the warm brownie with ice cream on top and I was an old fashioned waffle cone with two scoops kind of a guy. Flavorful, fun and service was prompt and courteous. Stopped in here while wandering Tarrytown after 4th of July fireworks and the S'mores flavored ice cream I got was very refreshing! Cute place that also sells baked goods and had plenty of seating as well as a nice selection of unique flavors and toppings. The line was long but service was quick. "When in Rome, do as the Romans". This saying is pretty much transferrable anywhere you go in the world. Even in a small, little quaint place, like Tarrytown. And all the locals here swear by Main Street Sweets. After reading some helpful reviews, especially Phil H.'s glowing remarks on this place, I knew we had to squeeze this into our itinerary during our Westchester getaway weekend not too long ago. Though I admit, the decor wasn't as charming as I was anticipating, other than the pretty Tarrytown mural on the wall, which is absolutely lovely, I was sort of expecting some type of continuous motif. I must've been high off my visit to the very gorgeous and shi-shi Laudree in Manhattan, but I digress. The friendly smiles of the servers and the tons of different homemade ice cream flavors made me soon forget about decor. We tried the small sample cup where we each had a go at 5 different flavors per cup. That option is absurdly awesome and unheard of, so we took some time to really choose wisely and capitalize on such a rare privilege. I especially loved the mint chocolate chip, pistachio, and I think I had the cake batter, too. I appreciated the fact that their ice cream is all-natural and the creamy texture was a clear indicator that it was fresh, and tasty. Not only did we get 5 flavors each, but the price did not burn a hole into our wallets. Speaking of wallet..... In my sugar-induced, ice cream haze, I totally walked out of the store with my ice cream in hand, and my bf on the hip, but not my wallet. Mind you, it wasn't like I put down a $10 for $7 worth of ice cream, and left my $3 worth of change on the countertop. Because, if that were the case, I would have been a lot less freaked out than what actually went down. See what actually happened was that I left the entire shebang at the store, my whole wallet and all its contents!!! At least 20 minutes passed before I even noticed! Can you believe that? Being a New Yorker, I assumed the worst. I thought, "oh well, there goes my money and all the stuff I had in my wallet" -- but thankfully, when we went back to the store, the same, sweet and friendly shopgirl who helped me with my ice cream selection, flashed a smile at me and handed me my wallet. The tension and fear in my body immediately disintegrated that very moment. So, not only is Main Street Sweet's ice creams heavenly, but their shop girls are angelic, too! We tried some of the more unusual ones, including watermelon coconut (refreshing!) and opted for a scoop of the Main Street Special, which is coffee coffee with chocolate chips and fudge. I'm kind of an ice cream snob... Jenni's remains my favorite, though I've made it a point to try ice cream in several other states over the years. I'm hard pressed to eat much store-crafted ice cream these days, though I will admit that Ben & Jerry's is pretty good. This ice cream is really good, there can be no doubt about that. It's a cute shop situated in downtown Tarrytown, and has that heavenly ice cream scent as you enter that every ice cream place has. There are a few tables off set in the back for seating, but not a ton. It seemed most people that day were more interested in grabbing and going than sticking around. More room to me and mum, so that was okay. There is a huge mural on one side of the wall, which I found pretty, but also a bit out of place, thematically speaking. And two, one-stall bathrooms on the opposite side. Or was it one? I honestly can't remember. My mum and I chose to split one, and opted for mint chocolate chip (hers) and sweet cream (mine). We got 4 scoops for around $5. Which I know from being an ice cream snob, is a reallllly good price Some other flavors that were being offered at that time: Nutella, toasted almond, pure pistachio, vanilla, chocolate, and a bunch of other flavors I can't remember. PROS: -Homemade ice cream. -Fresh ingredients. -Priced well. We got 2 scoops for around $5, and it was big enough to satisfy two people. CONS: -Small bathrooms, which aren't the cleanest. THE VERDICT: It's kind of odd to me that a bunch of these three star reviews talk about how good or great the ice cream was, but still give them three stars... Sorry guys, but three stars is generally okay, not good. This place is more what you would consider an old school ice cream parlour, one that doesn't necessarily serve exciting and weird flavors, but the flavors they do serve are delicious, simple, and fresh. I enjoyed that the ice cream is actually homemade. And you can taste that sort of thing. Maybe that doesn't mean it has that super artificial minty taste that [pepper]mint extract gives to it, so yes, the mint is a bit more subdued in flavor... There is nothing better than treating yourself to a sweet post-meal treat. I know that I always have room for dessert (even after a gut-busting meal). :9 Their flavor selection is quite limited, but after tasting a few flavors, we finally decided on the cherry vanilla and the espresso bean almond biscotti. Both were great! I particularly liked the crispy bitterness of the chocolate covered espresso beans that could be found throughout our scoop. It went well with the sweeter chunks of biscotti sprinkled throughout the scoop. I've just discovered my new favorite ice cream flavor. :9 The cherry vanilla is pretty much their version of the generic cherry jubilee ice cream. I like the mom and pop feel of the ice cream shop, but I wish they offered more indoor seating than the few chairs lining the wall in front of the ice cream display. Needed a place to get out of the cold before our dinner at Blue Hill. Main Street Sweets provided a refuge. I tried a couple flavors before picking an apples-and-sweet-cream one. I wasn't wowed by any of the flavors, but they did have a wide selection. Slightly better coffee than I was expecting. It was pretty cheap, which we appreciated. Decor is like every country store in America-- all of those faux-rustic signs about "Life is short, eat dessert first." Bathrooms were clean enough. Right when you walk into the store, you are hooked by the sweet rich waffle smell. Omg, my friends and i all agreed that was the best part of the store. The store offers free wifi, but it's locked, so you need to sit in the back to find out the PW. The bathroom is for customers only, so you also need to ask for the key. THey have some interesting concoctions of ice cream flavors. I wasn't feeling too risky, but the blue cookie monster ice cream does look intriguing. I may have to try that out one day. I went for the standard chocolate chip cookie dough vanilla ice cream. The ice cream was rich; i have to assume that they use a high content of butter fat. There were also a good amount of chunks of sweet cookie dough. Yum yum yum. Their shakes/sundaes on the menu look amazing. There is simply no better ice cream store in Westchester. Actually, in all of America. The ice creams are so delicious. There's such a variety!!! You can get something spicy, something sweet, something salty. It's so good it's overwhelming! The mural is beautiful look at while chowing on some Main Street special (a classic with coffee, chocolate chunks and fudge) and that amazing new chocolate MELtdown flavor. Simply marvelous. In addition to the mouth-watering sweet desserts, the workers are top notch. They're friendly, patient, fast-paced, knowledgeable and always willing to give out samples. I have been to this wonderful establishment too many times to recount, but never have I had an unpleasant interaction with an employee. I am always impressed and my sweet tooth is always satisfied! Is this the best that Tarrytown has to offer? First off, the girl at the cashier was sweet which was a plus. Now onwards with the two star review. While the girl was sweet, she wasn't listening to me. I specifically asked for one chunky chocolate cookie, vanilla cupcake, chocolate cupcake and a brownie. She gave me all of that and an additional 4 other different flavored cookies. I didn't realize until I started driving because I wondered why it was so expensive for 4 items without realizing I was charged for 8 items. I wasn't upset about the wrong order until I took a bite out of their marble cookie. It was crumbly, dry, hard and tasted stale. It was spit out. Unfortunately this was also the case for the other 2 cookies. 3/5 cookies were bad and I suggested to give them to the homeless in the city but my boyfriend said they'll probably be angry and try to kill us with the brick hard cookies. The 2 leftover cookies felt a little softer so I kept it but the other 3 was such a turn off that I didn't even want to try them. The cupcakes were sad. The cake was mushy and oily and the frosting tasted like something you could get from Pilsbury at the supermarket aisle. I'm scared to try the brownie. I'm also unhappy with yelp. They asked me to be considerate with my rating due to covid but I don't think covid is an excuse for brick cookies. read more

Last night we were surprised to see a line of people waiting to get into a store on Main Street in Tarrytown, do we walked closer and saw that it was an ice cream store! We had already eaten dinner so while we were still digesting our meal, we got on line. The selection of homemade ice cream was over the top ! And between options for frozen yogurt, gelato and hard ice cream Flavors, we made and changed our minds many times as we watched customers leaving with huge homemade waffle cones filled with incredible combinations of treats. Ice cream is my weakness. I crave it pretty often and homemade ice cream is my jam. I think I went here three or four times throughout my stay in Tarrytown. The place does get busy and I had to walk away when the line was out the door once, but I see why. People linger to find the best flavor and no one is disappointed. I tried quite a few of the offerings. I loved the Nutella - vanilla ice cream with Nutella swirled throughout - and the best was the espresso nut, a chocolate ice cream with chocolate covered espresso beans. I got some red velvet cookie that was amazing. I was too impatient to wait until I got home to heat it up, but I was still happy with it. I also tried one of their premade ice cream sandwiches. The ice cream here is absolutely delicious!Marlainas madness was everything it said it was; yummy vanilla ice cream filled to the brim with goodies. The chocolate meltdown was the perfect ice cream for a chocolate lover, the brownie bits had an amazing flavor that paired nicely with the chocolate ice cream. The toasted coconut was delicious as well, although it could have been a solid 10/10 if it just had a bit more coconut. The fairy dust was just as scrumptious, and has a cute name to fit the beautiful pastel pink of the ice cream. We ordered chocolate sprinkles, and received them not on the ice cream itself, but in little condiment containers. This seemed like a safe and sanitary decision, although it was a bit difficult to sprinkle the toppings onto the ice cream in the middle of the street. Overall, the staff were attentive and pleasant, the establishment followed strict social distancing protocols, and there were many signs making it clear that you had to wear a mask. The order was taken outside of the shop, run inside by the worker, and delivered out to you. We felt safe and satisfied, and will be back soon! read more

Such a cute slice of Americana in a charming town. They seem to have a lot of flavors but I went with a soft-serve twist. Cash only but they have an ATM. The only complaint was but it was pretty crowded and they totally let the bathroom go to hell when they were busy. There was paper all over the floor, and they were out of toilet paper. It's mostly kids who work here so I can't be too harsh, but they need to be more mindful of that in the future. read more
