Staff was nice and didn't mind us asking for sample after sample. Both my friend and I got the medium cup which is two scoops of ice cream with chocolate crunchies. A nice quaint place with no seating inside but with a couple of benches outside to enjoy homemade ice cream. I usually cherry vanilla but today I ordered the butterfinger crunch and it did not disappoint. We wanted a milkshake. Looking around we found this little place with handmade ice cream. When I walked over it was super crowded with all the people waiting for the Halloween parade. Someone came out to direct the crowds. They didn't only sell ice cream but they also had apple dumplings, fresh cider donuts and also other treats. I got the cider donut milkshake and some fresh cider donuts. The milkshake was very good. It tasted like cider donuts with milk. There were bits of donuts in it. The fresh donuts were also good. I was pleasantly surprised how tasty the treats were. Specialty sweet ship with a full staff of teenagers working a local business so it could be slow due to suburban nature and experience. However, definitely try their seasonal treats. Eventually I'll return to this quaint local sweet eatery to try other options from ice cream to smoothies. The seasonal apple cider collection of cider, apple cider glazed and sugar donuts, and cider fritter were delicious. Ate the entire 6 piece box within two days. Despite the fritter being in a cup, worth a try! Too bad it's only seasonal to autumn because I'd buy them year round. You're not going to believe this, but I plum forgot to take pics of my ice cream! It was so good, that it was gone before we were two blocks away. I really enjoyed this ice cream shop. As soon as you enter, it'll be clearly stated, that their ice cream is home made. It was apparent, because it was very good, creamy, and left no after taste. The shop had very nice wall paintings of Tarrytown and, if you would like to enjoy your ice cream inside, they have a clean seating area in the rear. They make all the ice cream on premises and offer vegan options, sorbets and ice cream made with coconut milk. I enjoyed the black cherry vegan ice cream - the taste was slightly tart and had plenty of chocolate chips to compliment. My husband had one scoop of honey lavender and one scoop of black raspberry on a cookie cone. He said it was awesome! The lavender wasn't overpowering and he enjoyed it a lot. We arrived just after a group of about 25 day campers descended on this ice cream parlor, but the 3 young women behind the counter didn't flinch as they scooped huge servings of their homemade ice cream. They moved the crowd through quickly and then it was our turn. My wife had a huge scoop of strawberry and I had a delightful caramel cafe dip. Both were excellent and my wife commented on the fresh strawberries embedded in her scoop. After walking 7.2 miles on the new Mario Cuomo Bridge Path, I was famished and looking for lunch. Since I was in Tarrytown I decided to head into town since I know of a number of eateries there. I noticed Main Street Sweets when I was parking, so I decided to check it out after lunch for a little dessert. Currently they are not allowing anyone in the shop, but they have a table set up at the front door with a list of ice cream flavors as well as size options and available toppings. Additionally there's a display of other baked goods they sell. The French vanilla sounded good, so I decided to go with a cup of that. I wasn't disappointed - the ice cream was super creamy with great vanilla flavor. If anyone has any negative opinions on vanilla ice cream I challenge them to try MSS' version. I also picked up one of their chocolate chip cookies; it was one of those large crumbly kinds, not bad but not the best I've had either. Service was fast and friendly, and overall I had a great experience at Main Street Sweets. I love independent shops like these and really hope they make it through these crazy times. Next time I'm in Tarrytown I'll be sure to stop by for more treats. read more

I was expecting a bit more according to other reviews. I tried the chocolate peanut butter ice cream - it literally had one piece of peanut butter in it and the ice cream itself was standard, nothing to write home about. The chocolate chip cookie had decent flavor but wish it had a crisp exterior. They also need to make a better cappuccino in my opinion. read more

This stars in this review reflect the poor service from two workers at this store during our particular visit. The food was fine and the other two workers were nice, which is why this is 3 stars and not 1. We visited Main Street Sweets Friday 10/25 at around 5pm, there was one other customer needing to be helped so it was not busy and there were 4 people working behind the register. One of the workers, a girl with lighter brown hair was helping the other customer with ice cream. There was a boy with lighter brown hair and a girl with dark/black hair (and glasses?) that were standing around on their phones while there were no other people in line and we were clearly waiting to order. In fact the boy had asked the dark haired girl "if she was working" and she laughed, glanced over and walked right past us at the register to continue watching something on her phone. Finally when the light haired girl was done helping the other customer she came and helped us. She was perfectly nice, and while we were waiting for our order, there was another boy with dark/black hair who asked us if he could get us anything else, which was much appreciated and a pleasant stark contrast to the other two workers mentioned. Located on Main Street in the heart of Tarrytown, this ice cream parlor serves up delicious and fresh ice cream. It reminds me of an old fashioned ice cream parlor that I used to eat at in Manhassett, Swenson's, who calked sprinkles "bennies". We just finished a late lunch at Sweetgrass Grill and wanted something sweet, just a little ice cream. We entered Main Street Sweets and surveyed the treats: there were cookies, cakes and coffee selections. My friend wanted the small pumpkin cheesecake slice and I scanned the ice cream selections: coffee, maple nut, vanilla and then I came across the Main Street Special. I decided to try a small scoop. There is no dining inside thus we took our treats outside and ate them seated at bench outside shop. My friend loved her pumpkin cheesecake: she liked that it wasn't overly sweet and loved the pumpkin flavor. I loved my ice cream: the creaminess and texture of the ice cream was scrumptious and the small scoop contained a nice portion of fudge and chocolate pieces. The coffee flavor is always a good choice. It really did the job of satisfying our sweet craving. All in all a really good ice cream shop: courteous fast and great ice cream! read more

They got me sold! Tarrytown has one other Ice Cream spot- but I got it in for Street Sweets. From what I remember, our first visit a few years ago was pleasant and noticed how popular these guys are- because it was filled to the rafters! I had scoped out their online menu just several weeks ago for Vegan ice cream- and website doesn't list any- (maybe I didn't check the fine print?). I backed it up with a phone call and the guy said they carry Lemon Poppyseed or Matcha Vegan ice cream only. Wasn't Chocolate- but beggars can't be choosers...right? But that was then... And this is now- because service again- was pleasant and on a quiet Thursday evening, it was a breeze. Turns out, when I came here recently, there was actually 'Lemongrass' and Chocolate Vegan Ice Cream available. (Seems like flavors change? I'm all for it!!!) By the way- there's an upcharge for Vegan Ice Cream (don't recall how much)- but I appreciated the heads up prior to my ice cream being scooped. My Vegan Lemongrass made with Coconut Milk was all that and just as creamy like the regular dairy kind! Who knows....maybe Strawberry is in the works? read more

Been waiting for this to open back up and it did not disappoint. Well it disappointed the kids because my brother and I ate most of the cookies. We gave them a piece, but we're not coming out looking like heroes here. They have ice cream, obviously, but we just got two cookies, a chocolate chip with I think toffee and a cookie with m&ms, both of which we ate on the walk back to the apartment. I want to say that the cookies made it back to the apartment, but they did not. Their hot fudge is not always hot and sometimes tastes off but they have a good assortment of toppings which sometimes are a little stale but never taste bad. I'm not sure if I am committing a bit of social suicide here but something has to be said about the portions per cost at Main Street Sweets. To be clear I'm a huge supporter of Mom & Pop Business and have been a patron of MSS for many years. Perhaps because business has been less robust in and around town of late and business owners are feeling the pressure to turn a profit during the summertime when walk in traffic is more frequent but I have I have noticed a severe difference in the "Scoop Size" from years past to this current summer of '04. Maybe this is a management decision or just a random occurrence I cannot say for sure which is why I am writing this after 3 separate visits to the shop recently where I have gotten 2 scoops of ice cream of different flavors that were both not "Proper Scoops" (as ridiculous as that may sound). I'm sorry to sound like a wet towel here and maybe I have higher standards than others but a "Proper Scoop" should be a SOLID BALL of your desired flavor not the HALF SIZED-HOLLOW scoops sadly I have received as of late. Perhaps the local kids haven't been trained how to make a real scoop or maybe the ice cream is so hard/difficult to scoop out they give up trying to make one but what ever it is at the prices they charge sad to say I'm cool on Main Street Sweets for now. read more
