Noli is absolutely great! He was great at communicating and I was able to come in for multiple consultations to make sure the design was perfect before scheduling my appointment. I did come in with my own design but resizing and placement was my main concern. I did one consultation just to talk about the original design and how to modify it to be the size I wanted it to be. The second consultation was for placement and refining the size. I really liked that I was able to get the stencil placed on me before "signing off" on the design. Because my schedule was very flexible and I live not too far from the shop, scheduling was straight forward. We worked out a day and time that worked best for both of us and I paid a deposit to hold the date. I ended up coming to my appointment 20 minutes early and Noli was already ready to go. This wasn't my first tattooing experience so I knew what to expect. The final product turned out better than I expected. Noli added more depth to my tattoo that made it look like an artist took a paintbrush to my hip.The level of detail in the amount of time (2.5hr) was amazing; I'm impressed. The only reason why I docked a star is that, during the consultation process, there were a few times where we would schedule a time and then I would get a last minute rescheduling request. This review is for Kenny Brown. I have yet to go to this tattoo location yet, but did get my 2 tattoos from him at his last tattoo shop back when he was in San Jose in the Summer of 2013. I was in a transitional point of my life and have been wanting a tattoo for quite some time. I found him on yelp, set up an interview with him, and set an appointment to get my tattoo. Sometimes you can't plan a tattoo.. you just have to go with it. Kenny Brown was the best person to do that with. From one artist to another, I respected his artistic talent and immediately trusted him at the time I first met him. With that said, I did not know what I was getting tatted on me until the time my tattoo was completed! From just my interview, he captured who I was in the person and what I wanted it to represent. He definitely exceeded my expectations with the symbolism intertwined with the sentimental meaning of the important people in my life to the person who I am. My tattoo was 3 1/2 hours long and was on my left shoulder on my back. My second tattoo was a month later where I wanted my next tattoo to represent my adulthood and independence. It was my shield as an independent woman! Again, I trusted the artist he is and was insurmountably ecstatic about the outcome. This piece was on my outer thigh resting a couple inches above my knee to right below my hip. This was definitely an experience with Kenny Brown who is an overall beautiful, down to earth person, genuine, and keeps it real. No matter what part of your body you get tatted, he is professional and makes you feel comfortable checkin in on how you're doing. Go to Ron. He's kind, patient, and gentle when he uses the needle. I came to him almost 15 minutes before closing and he took me in and stayed with me until 11:30pm. I'm so thankful he stayed with me for so long! For $120, Ron took the characters I brought in for him and he made it his own with calligraphy like writing. I love my tattoo and it came out much better than when I first brought it in. I just found out many tattoo artists believe in people earning their stripes when getting tattoos. Hence, pain is beauty. But Ron focuses just as much on customer service and I am so happy he used the numbing spray at the end!! The spray only works when the skin is broken, so most tattoo artists I believe use it when the tattoo needs to get touched up at the end. Ron made sure I was ok by constantly asking me how I was and whether or not I needed to take a break. He also has a bag of chocolate candies that he hands out to clients because your blood sugar lowers when you get a tattoo! The chocolate definitely helped and I'm thankful for how caring Ron was when helping me go through the process. Had a consultation and showed her the picture that had inspired me, and went back a few days later to do it. She had prepared the basic black lining, we discussed the colors and she set to work. An hour and a half later, she was done, and it turned out absolutely gorgeous, even better than the picture I had shown her. I had wanted to get a tattoo done for a while, and after researching on both yelp and instagram, I felt like I was getting some pretty positive vibes from Mainland Ink. Ron was my artist, and I can definitely say that I was not disappointed in any way! I called in on a weekday afternoon to see if I could do a walk-in and was happy that Ron picked up. I had seen some of his work on his instagram before. From the looks of it, he seemed like a very family-oriented guy and his work was really nice too, both of which were qualities that I saw as a plus. Therefore, I felt confident enough to have him work on me as a walk-in. When I got to the shop, Ron was super friendly from the beginning to end. I told him the idea that I had in mind, and he started drawing it out on my skin in Sharpie before I made a permanent ink decision. I really like how he made sure that it was to my liking in every which way possible. Whether it was the size, style, placement, etc. of the design, he would constantly (but not in an annoying way) ask to make sure it was what I liked/wanted before we started the inking process. I did ask him to change it up a few times, but never once did he seem bothered by even the tiniest nit-picky changes or doubts I had about it. Once I was completely happy with the design, Ron started prepping the work area. The shop was already extremely clean, but it was still nice to see him reclean the bed that he had me lie down on. Throughout the inking session, he made sure I was comfortable the whole time and that I wasn't getting lightheaded or anything. Everything went smoothly, and not once was I ever in any pain. At the end, Ron carefully explained to me the aftercare of my tattoo even though it was listed out on a piece of paper that he gave me as well. He even thanked me for being so patient with him, but I feel like he was more patient dealing with me :P I also know that if I ever have any questions regarding the aftercare/healing process, Ron will get back to me about it in a timely manner. All in all, my first tattoo experience was great thanks to Ron and Mainland Ink! I wouldn't hesitate to come back! My friend and my cousin himself came along with me to my appointment. I was greeted by Ozzy, who was super cool and I got my tattoo done by B. The staff is funny, friendly, and accommodating. The shop was fairly small (which I personally like), very clean, and the wall art is dope (Peep the Lauryn Hill painting)! Being it was my first tattoo, my nerves were getting to me and I was indecisive with the placement and style of my tat. On top of that, I am really bad at small talk! But B was effortlessly patient and fun to chat with! When I first took appointment I got tattoos done and was happy with Angel and tip him well. In few days I see empty spots inside my tattoo and my every single friend ,colleague started saying the blade used wasn't right and I have to get it redone as this one of the tattoos doesn't look right. Initially I was told I can walk in anytime within 6 months for touch up but I wanted to call and take an appointment as a courtesy. I've gotten tattooed by Push twice, my friends have been tattooed by her, as well as my brother and now all his friends. We refer everyone to her. Very clean practice, beautiful original work, great communication, and most importantly, I've only ever seen badass beautiful tattoos leave her hands. Thanks to yelp and ig on a wednesday night I found April! Did a quick search for watercolor tattoos in the bay area and Mainland popped up. This lead me to creeping on Aprils instagram so I could see the rest of her work. I really liked it so I emailed her the next day and with her quick response I came in that afternoon for a consult. (For background info- I have an infinity tattoo that I got awhile back that I didn't even consider covering since it was just so big and I wanted more of a no outline watercolor type concept..) Met up with April who was already excited about my loose concept and she said she could definitely help me cover up the infinity if that's what I wanted.. Was a little skeptical at first but after April told me her two favorite things are cover ups and watercolor.. I decided I could trust this girl.. because why would you put your reputation on the line?? We set up an appointment and I was in by Saturday afternoon. After a 3 to 4ish hour session we were done and I was SO HAPPY with the results. I definitely plan on coming back to maybe add more to the piece but after the pain levels... I'm going to give myself a bitttt more time before I recommit. In anycase, this was definitely worth my money and my time. Everyone at the shop was really nice and it has a very comforting atmosphere vs other tattoo shop I've been to where I felt a bit more intimidated. Meh. It's been over a month now since I got my tattoo. I've been contemplating on my tattoo now that it has been healed, and it's not how I thought it would've been. The grey ink for the flower and the sun's rays and the bold black stars just look so weird. I feel like the whole thing should've been black, grey and even some white instead of just straight up two colors. I envisioned when the sun's rays gradient out to go from light then be very dark on the ends of the Rays so the black stars would look to be part of the tattoo. I wanted it to be grey scaled since I'm more on the tan side, I thought color wouldn't show up as well, but I didn't think it would turn out like this. I would probably get this tattoo touched up somewhere else to be honest. I now live in Las Vegas, so we'll see how this goes. read more

I went to Mainland Ink for the first time last week, because I was informed that they offered Microblading. LIANE IS FKNG AMAZING. The entire shop is beautiful and super clean. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and Liane took her time to make sure every single thing she did served a purpose. I tweeted my eyebrows until they were as thin as a pencil stroke waaaaay back in 2000. They've grown back, but in very goofy, uneven ways. Your shop is great, Ozzie is awesome, that guy with the calf piece is braver than I am, and my daughter loved April's watercolor. My wife also loved the work I had done, thank you. Ozzie and I got down to business and together came up with a great idea that fit the space, budget and time I had available. You can't ask for much more than that. The shop was clean, relatively quiet, and really laid back. AND, of the three shops I talked to in the area, your guys/girls answered me and followed through, Many of the emails back and forth from one of the owners. Good job, all. Its a cozy shop, so if they are busy space might be at a premium. There were not a lot of interruptions during our time, and the few times the phone rang sounded 'right'; enough business that people call, but not so low on staff that it takes away from their customers. There are some of your basic tattoo magazines around, but also some hard bound books on 'traditional' style tattooing-in this case, today, Hawaiian and Austrail-Asian 'tap' technique. Interesting reading while O drew up what we talked about. Some local art paint/prints also on the walls for local pickup too. A wide variety of tattoo styles evident both on patrons and on staff, but nothing gang related, biker, or 'flash' that I saw. Very comfortable environment for a 38 year old married IT guy from the midwest-and ive seen some seedy/scary places in my other travels. I recently had my eyebrows micro-bladed by Liane, and my brows came out exactly how I wanted them. First and foremost, the place is clean and welcoming. Liane was professional, diligent, and really cares about making sure her clients are happy and taken care of. Getting micro-blading can be a little nerve racking, but Liane made the process incredibly easy. She took her time getting the shape right before beginning the micro-blading process and had me make sure I liked the way they looked. My sister & I were feeling spontaneous since it was my birthday & wanted to get tattoos. By default, since we live in Fremont, we went to Inkies first. The stuck up person working at the front told us that they no longer take walk ins on weekends so we decided to check out the spot that took over the original Inkies location--Mainland Ink. We were welcomed right away by all the artists in the shop. THE PLACE WAS VERY CLEAN. The artwork displayed had really Bay Area vibes, which I appreciated. My sister asked if they would be able to do something small for us with a budget of $120 & Ron took us in without any hesitation like "Hell yea we can do $60 each let's do it!" That made me so happy & excited. There were two other people getting some pretty hardcore tattoos done like full sleeves & all so I was a bit embarrassed to admit we just wanted a small Winnie the Pooh & Piglet tattoos but Ron was just as stoked as I was saying he loved Winnie the Pooh too. (If he was pretending, he was really good at it & I appreciate the reassuring customer service.) What I liked about Ron in comparison to my experience with artists at Inkies is that he does want to build a relationship with his clients. The artists I had at Inkies never really talked to me at all. I truly felt that Ron wanted to know more about me, what brought me to Mainland Ink, why we're getting that tattoos & if we want/have any more. He even asked if we ate anything all day & when we said no, he gave us a bag of chocolate so that we could take our mind off the pain while we were getting our tats done. Ron even made sure he completely broke down & cleaned his station after I got mine done/before my sister sat in even though we were just getting small tattoos done & explained to us the importance of preventing cross contamination, which was professional of him. Ron specializes in tribal tattoos & was explaining to us all about it when we expressed interest in getting Filipino tribal tattoos done in the near future. He was able to ask about our family story a little bit & tell us what tribal symbols we would need on our tattoo, which was cool. He definitely knows what he's taking about especially since he's covered in Korean & Filipino & Polynesian tribal tattoos. Ron did an excellent job with my request on making our tattoos look like it was straight out of a pencil sketch book. I really wanted to avoid having a kiddy tattoo that looked like a press-n-peel sticker & he definitely was able to add that edge to our Winnie the Pooh & Piglet tattoo with that vintage, storybook feel that I wanted. My sister & I were very pleased with the size, texture, illustration & overall result of the tattoo especially for the deal he was able to give us. When we left, he even gave us a hug & a significant thing that made me feel very welcomed & gain my full trust in this place is that unlike at Inkies, Ron did not make us wait while he counted our cash in front of us to make sure we paid him in full amount. I always found that insulting at Inkies & I was glad to see that Ron & my sister & I had built a good relationship that day. Looking at the other artists who were there, they were all super chill & funny & also very talented. There was even another artist who was reading literally over 5times his client's script tattoo & made all of us read it to make sure he didn't mess up any grammar or spelling (#NoRagrets). My sister & I enjoyed our time with Mainland Ink & will definitely be coming back. Thanks Ron & Mainland Ink! See you again soon! read more

This goes beyond the 5 stars allowed. Mainlank Ink is fairly new in the Bay Area but these tattoo artists are veterans. Came in last Wednesday evening to get a dedication tattoo for my mom and auntie. Its an image of a stained glass Virgin Mary with a simple stained glass background. My tattoo artist April, went beyond my expectations and added 3 stained glass roses and she found the original art and added borders to the image. So much detail, so much skill, so much heart went into this tattoo. My sincere thanks and appreciation goes out to April and the entire Mainland Ink crew. read more
