Mai refused to help an elderly man who is unable to take care of his feet himself. This is the only salon he can walk to from his building. He tells me she started his nails and then refused to do them and sent him away. This was very frustrating to hear, and he was pretty upset about it. I also got my nails done here a couple years ago, by far the ugliest, worst nail experience I've ever had. I don't usually write poor reviews, I prefer to let the business owner know directly about what I feel could have been improved upon... I went in for a pedicure and asked to have my gel removed. She let me know it would be an extra $5, and I said no problem. After she started, I decided I didn't want to do gel again and asked if I could have a strengthening polish instead. She told me this wasn't an option and seemed to get annoyed with me, which translated to a half-hearted pedicure application. When it came time to pay, the bill was $41... for gel removal and a pedicure that consisted of a light foot scrub, cuticle trim, and a five minute leg massage. I left not really feeling like my attempt to pamper myself had actually resulted in me feeling pampered at all... more like I had spent my money to feel like an imposition to the business because I decided I wanted to give my nails a break from gel. It was disappointing to not have a nail strengthening polish option. When I left, and really looked at my toenails, I was really disappointed. I called to let them know that I didn't have the best experience and was told that my nails were done well, perfectly clean and trimmed, and that if I had a problem I could come back and they would fix them... but it didn't really feel like a warm invitation. I'm leaving a review in hopes that Mai can learn from it and handle any future clients who don't feel satisfied with a more professional and customer service oriented response that makes the customer feel valued, instead of an annoyance. I started coming to Mai's when I moved to Pukalani in July 2021. Mai is super welcoming and sweet, and has a good sense for when you feel like chatting or when you feel like just relaxing. I love how she does my nails - she is super gentle and I never leave with sore cuticles like at some other salons. My daughter and I went here for the first time on 3/10/21 it is now 3/20/21 and our gel nails and gel toes are coming off. They are chipped and lifting. Hair is getting stuck underneath them. We also both got pedicures with gel polish. I received the full pedicure treatment my daughter only got the water and a trim no massage or anything. Our total was 160. Totally not worth it. I do Not recommend this place. Also only one person working. She had to multitask and we didn't feel relaxed at all. Also we haven't left the house since because of rainy/stormy weather so it's not from the beach or doing anything abnormal. Super disappointed! I've had many manicures all over Maui, and have finally found Mai. What a wonderful and talented woman! Her shop is bright and very clean, and Mai is welcoming and friendly. Her attention to detail is superb, and she is an ideal manicurist for those who are ticklish or have sensitive feet. I had a broken nail that hurt, and wasn't sure she would be able to work on it. She assured me that she had magic hands, and true to her words, her magic hands magically restored my nail, plus no more pain! She gave me a better gel mani pedi than any 5 star resort I have gone to here, and at a very reasonable price. This salon is just okay. The color selection is limited. Mai is nice, but not always honest. She told me that my gel color could only be filed off, not soaked off, due to the kind of gel polish it was. This is interesting since it was applied by another local salon (far superior to Mai's) who also successfully soaks it off every time. To "prove" her idea, Mai soaked for five minutes (needs at least ten minutes) then filed all the polish off. As a result, my nails were left thinner and weaker than if they had been soaked off as I requested. Other than that, she is a nice person. Still, there are better salons on the island. read more

I went in to the salon with a picture of what I wanted. I specifically asked if they had the product to do what I was requesting and was told yes and to pick my color. I showed what I wanted and then when it came down to doing it after almost finished I was told that they were too busy and didn't have time or know how to do what I was paying for her to do. She made me very uncomfortable for wanting my nails a certain way that I was paying for. I was very disappointed with my nails and even had to change the color myself once I went home. I paid good money for stress and nails that I hated. I will definitely be finding someone else to do my nails. read more
