Hey all, beware. Shopkeeper is pretty despicable. Shop is crowded with items stacked on top of each other. Walking through is a hazard. My friend carefully lifted an item to check the price and a bunch of other items fell around us. One broke, and despite no signage saying not to touch, he came at us with a "you break you buy." Even more gross he claimed nothing has ever been broken in his store before (seriously?) and strong armed my kind friend into paying at least half for the item that broke. It didn't break the bank, but lesson learned should be to clear out his clutter, not to charge honest customers for accidents that he sets customers up for. His business decision lost us as customers, and a group of us literally went out of our way to go to the store because we had made purchases from there a few years back. Business must be bad. That could be karma. read more

Walked past here trying to find a bar next door. J' adore happy accidents. Spent better part of an hour there and could have stayed longer! Walked out a very happy costumer, and look forward to more goodies I will get here in the future! I would love to say I went to this shop and loved it but I can't. I was looking for a few items for my bedroom and wanted to shop at a local mom and pop store. I had passed this store several times and had seen all the beautiful items in the window so I was excited when the time came to buy a few things. I arrived early around 1030 am. The sign on the window said the store opens up at 11am. So I decided to go for a walk it was cold out and too cold to just stand there. I came back at 1130 and it still wasn't open. I waited another 5-10 minutes then decided to leave. I ended up ordering online from pottery barn. read more

This home decor store has the worst customer service. The owner wrapped up my purchase, a decorative box. I neglected to look underneath the lid. When I got home and unwrapped the box I could see that underneath the lid it was damaged. In two places the wood was splintered. The following day the store was closed for a holiday so I went to store the next day with my receipt and very nicely asked the store owner for either a replacement box or my money back showing him the damage. He then proceeded to yell at me and accuse me of damaging the box which is totally ridiculous. He just lost a customer. I was very upset but now I guess I'm stuck with a very expensive damaged decorative box. This will teach me to thoroughly look something over before I purchase. Furthermore upon reflection I think he was aware of the damage because he hurriedly wrapped and packaged box at register. Below is a photo of damaged lid. Buyer beware. On my way to the Joyce Theatre I walked past Maison 140 where my husband and I had bought frequently in the past somewhat interrupted by Covid induced absence. I was glad to see that the shop was still open and went in. I was literally standing just inside the front door when I heard something falling to the ground. it was a glass plate that apparently had been placed somewhat precariously on a table near the front door. The next moment the owner was next to me accosting me that I broke that piece and had to pay for it. I said that thus was obviously an accident but he threathened me with calling the police and I had to pay at least 50% of the purchase price. We all know that the markup on such items is a lot more but I gave him $40.00 which he insisted upon. This shop just lost a long time fan! read more

This eclectic and extremely unique store caught my friends eye! I agreed it was really better and a cut above the other antique stores, due to the mixed variety of items in here. There was a huge selection of items an animal lover would be enticed to buy, from birds and cats and dog themed items, to an adorable antique seemingly rare but sturdy alligator candy tray. There were highly fragrant soaps, animal themed sturdy metal appetizer accoutrements used to serve Hors D'oeuvres, vintage purses, adorable throw pillows and even a vintage well maintained great condition french chair. A great place to grab a gift for a friend who appreciates nostalgia and unique antiques. The gentleman working there that day was just as unique as the items, he was one of a kind and made the experience all the more interesting. My friend insisted I keep this place saved in my notes. Missed out on 6 customers last Sunday as a result. Love this store; I stumbled upon this store while in NYC in May. I spent about 45 minutes in the store with another patron. The salesman was very personable about the items we were contemplating about purchasing. I would of loved to have purchased more but just came away with a beautiful scarf. went back to get a birthday gift and was given the true french experience by the bitch blond customer service cashier. max as usual was pleasant and helpful. she certainly took the charm out of here and i dont want to go back, i unliked them on facebook. service is key and they lost me. i see they are looking for help, hopefully to replace her. i suppose i wasnt spending enough for her because i wanted to spend only 30 for a teenage birthday present gift to my daughters school friend, so she wanted me to move for the next purchase and she wouldnt gift wrap as the candle already came in a box. so yeah, i put back the jam jar i photographed and posted here on my prior visit. fuggetabout it. and nver mind the balloons. i can buy nice things elsewhere. see ya. read more

Love the store but will NEVER shop there again!! I have purchased so many gifts at this shop and i really like it even though the service is not always great and the markup is quite high but i am a believer in supporting small shops especially in this city. I was a loyal customer and often went out of my way to support this little shop but i recently requested to return an expensive item and got a snooty and mean response. This used to be one of my favorite stores in NY. Not anymore. The owner is rude, arrogant and needs remedial lessons in customer service. In addition, he rarely brings in new things to see and buy.
