I was so excited to eat at this restaurant. I had read that it was awarded a Michelin star and this would be my first experience. I am a true foodie. I read about food, I cook food, and I love to eat food. Unfortunately, this was such a complete disappointment. I had read about the lackluster decor so was somewhat prepared for the restaurant to be decorated simply, but, not for a lack of any decor, period! But I dismissed this as unimportant since it was food that I was after. It's a prix fixe menu of 3 courses. Perfect! My husband and I would get to choose two of each. Well, you've heard of a two for, buy one get one free? We had the opposite, buy two and get one. My husband's appetizer and main course were inedible. He ordered the steak tartare. It came out in a grayish brown rectangular molded form on a soggy crouton. It appeared to have been molded onto the crouton the day before. We both love tartare. This was nasty and not fresh. My optional upcharged appetizer of foie gras was very good so we shared the small but delicious portion of this. Ok, one miss. Let's move on to our main course. Husband chose the suckling pig. Again I was so excited to try this. I love pork! I've had many heritage pork products and have even roasted a whole pig, but have never had suckling pig. I imagined the crispy delicate skin mixed with tender, succulent, collagen filled slices. Nope, out came the same dreaded, rectangular molded, mystery meat. It was so gamey, neither of us felt comfortable eating it. And where was the crackling? No where to be seen, just shredded, off-tasting pork. I did mention this twice to the chef's wife who just ignored us. Again, my sea bass filet was delicious. Nice crispy skin (which I was asked if I wanted??!!) and tender, fresh, white flakes beneath. Desserts were fine, although they were out of my two top choices even with a mostly empty dining room. I'm not sure if the lack of care was due to them thinking we were unworthy philistines or just not caring in general. I will say that, sadly, lMichelin should revisit and consider removing the star from this restaurant. read more

Recently ate at Maison Blanche , and shortly there after was diagnosed with food poisoning. When I contacted the restaurant, they had absolutely no interest and little empathy towards the situation as it was pretty clear due to my medically diagnosed food poisoning that I contracted it from eating oysters at the restaurant . For the next two weeks, the majority of my vacation was spent in bed being incapacitated due to the food poisoning and the resulting symptoms . The head chef, Jose, never bothered to return my phone call despite several requests, and he forwarded the situation to one of his servers - who embarrassingly offered me two free glasses of champagne on my next visit. Side note... We paid an up charge for the oysters. read more

This restaurant was recommended by a friend. She NAILED it. We have eaten at Bouchon (Napa), Bernardin and Boulud (NYC), Bocuse (in Lyon) and a dozen other high-end French restaurants. While Maison Blanche may not have the breadth of a high-end big city French restaurant, it has depth, and the food quality and service are excellent for a small city. My husband and I had a reservation for earlier (5:45 p.m.). While the restaurant is in a hotel/resort on Long Boat Key, the decor is refined serenity. Michel was our waiter, and seated us quickly. He was attuned to everything we MIGHT need. An arched eyebrow and he was tableside in 5 seconds, anticipating what we would ask for. He was also kind enough to let me stumble through my horrendous French. :) Victoria, one of the owners (the chef is the other), was friendly and professional. Her accent gave away her Parisian history. A French couple owning and running a French restaurant? AWESOME!! We ordered a nice, reasonably-priced Pomerol to enjoy with dinner. Michel delivered some excellent mini baguettes to start. I pride myself on my execution of crispy, rich baguettes; these were on a par, but beautifully right-sized. After serving the wine correctly(cork presentation, small portion poured for my husband to taste and approve, then fill of my glass, then my husband's), Michel presented the amusee bouche, a tuna tartare (with zucchini); it was fresh and very tasty. We had ordered the grilled/roasted octopus as an appetizer. They split the plate and presented it with a sweet pepper and onion relish that was delicious. My husband had the short rib with puréed potatoes. He LOVED it. I had the prime rib eye, medium, with vegetables. My rib eye was done in a cast iron pan, resulting in the perfect crust (NOT burned, but seared just right). My accompanying vegetables were fresh and crisp. With great confidence at this point, we ordered a soufflé and the vacherin for dessert. Wow. WOW. Perfectly prepared and presented. With my decaf coffee, we enjoyed a chocolate truffle and small cream puff (sans cream) confection. This is the place to take the boss you want to impress, the girl you want to marry, or the guy you're celebrating an anniversary with. Thank you, Maison Blanche! We came here for my wife's birthday and it was an elegant dinner. Excellent service and delicious food. Don't let the outside of the building fool you, it is a beautiful restaurant inside. If you think the portions look small in the pictures let me reassure you that you won't leave feeling unfulfilled. The octopus was tender and well seasoned. The foie gras was not overpowering in the ravioli appetizer which was surprisingly good. The short rib was very good and executed perfectly. The sea bass was the star of the meal for me. It was served with crispy skin and cooked just right. The chocolate soufflé was really good however the amount of cocoa powder on top was far too much and my wife actually inhaled some of it accidentally. My husband and I dined at Maison Blanche recently. Being a frequent LBK visitor, this was yet our first visit to this fine establishment. Beyond our expectation, Maison Blanche is not stuffy or pretentious. It is a first rate, elegant French restaurant with a classic foundation and some modern accents. We highly recommend. The above was my review a year ago. We went again last night: Excellent food and service. We went there to celebrate my husband's birthday. The owner Mrs Martinez and the daughter were there to greet us. Food was top notched, very delicate. Full of flavor. And not pretentious at all. Prices for the quality, quality and ambiance were very reasonable. We had an excellent wine called Corbieres Rozeta 2014 which was very reasonably priced. Dishes-wise we had beef tartar which was perfectly prepared with a lightly cooked, partially raw, delicate soft boiled yolk within. We also had a blue crab roll with curry mayonnaise which was also excellent. Main courses were awesome too. We had perfectly prepared Mediterranean seabass, easily one of the best preparations I have ever had. My husband had the suckling pig which was very nice. For dessert, we had the tarte de pomme which was served with house-made apple sorbet, both were delicate and tasty. We also had a nice cheese plate with their house baked raisin bread. Finally Mrs Martinez gave my husband a nice bowl of airy, delicious and lightly baked pastry pillows (gougiere ?) to wrap up our dinner. It was very nice. We came for my husband and son's birthday. We were initially put off by the setting. Gulf side, curtains closed zero windows/view almost unheard of amidst the gulf. Let me just say from the moment we sat until we left the experience was second to none. Our waitress with her lovely french accent greeted us with hot eucalyptus soaked towels and the evening progressed into a gastronomic splendor. We spent 3 hours dining and enjoying arguably one of the finest dinners i have ever had. This place is such a gem. I cant wait to return. From the exquisite wine list we had a very nice bel gloss pinot. The octopus appetizer and the mushroom ravioli with frois grois sauce were so delicious. The presentation was perfection. Main course Sea Bass with a delectable crispy skin and the suckling pig were a hit. The chocolate soufflé and the apple tart were splendid. But i really loved the scratch baked petite baguette to lap up all the incredible sauces. I cant wait to return, but until i do i eill treasure our dining experience with Maison Blanche. Day after Valentine's dinner, we go 2/3times a year. To quote tom hanks.. spectaculus, as usual.. Chantrell risotto/Med sea bass were perfect, the black truffle risotto maybe the greatest risotto ive ever had.. yeah.. .. the poultry pie. If you are looking for somewhere special, this is it! My husband, daughter and I had dinner here and it was absolutely wonderful. The service was top notch. The setting was beautiful! The food was perfection. My husband ordered the beef tartare for his appetizer and not only was it stunning to look at it was delicious! I ordered the grilled octopus which was perfectly tender, had great flavor but was a tad bit on the greasy side. Needed a bit of acid to cut the fat, but still very good. My daughter ordered the warm seasonal vegetables for her appetizer and I have never in my life seen someone so excited about a plate of veggies! She absolutely loved the way they were prepared. Our dinner courses included the Sea Bass with spinach (hubby) perfectly cooked, the short ribs with potato purée(me) so good, and a salad for my daughter (more veggies). All were excellent. Desert was just as good if not better than the rest! Apple crumble, raspberry sorbet with meringue and a cheese plate. Add 2 bottles of wine and the meal with tip came to just over $500. I had dinner last night and was worried about what I would be able to eat as a vegan in a French restaurant. Our server knew what vegan means, which is actually not common, and gave me a few options. I was able to have the vegetables as is and the flavor was incredible. For the entree I was made an off menu risotto that was so creamy I double checked to make sure it didn't have cheese or milk. Dessert was also off menu and was pineapple with raspberries and sorbet. I wish I had taken photos because the presentation was beautiful. 10/10 for accommodation, ambience, flavor, and service. read more

We were a bit disappointed, considering the reputation. The initial greeting wasn't at all inviting, but thankfully our server was lovely and professional. The appetizers were the best part of the meal: wild mushroom ravioli with foie gras was delicious, and octopus very good. My red snapper entree wasn't particularly tasty; the chicken coq au vin was good. Desserts were mediocre: chocolate soufflé and cheese platter were predictable. We ate here early in the pandemic, in August 2020, so consider everything in that context. On offer was an extensive tasting menu. Food was good...not great. I am a Michelin-star restaurant junkie and have done a lot of these tastings world-wide. Wine list is good. Server was struggling with too many tables, which I am sure is due to the pandemic. We were very excited about trying this restaurant due to all the fantastic reviews here. We were expecting Michelin Star; James Beard level service and quality - meaning we would receive a memorable experience where the food is full of interesting flavors, textures, and is beautifully plated. Sadly, this was not what we experienced. I'll start with service then move through the offerings. Service: We were seated promptly, but had to prompt the waiter several times that we wanted to order wine then have it brought out. The service takes a long time - we understand taking your time and enjoying the experience, certainly at fine dining restaurants - but this took it to a whole new level. The entrée came out one hour after seating, and then they estimated another 40 for desert, and I can only imagine how long for the check, other reviewers here have mentioned waiting 20 mins. So plan on a solid two hour meal - which again isn't unheard of... what is unheard of is sitting there with dirty plates, empty water and wine glasses for 30 minutes while you wait and being ignored by the waiter, when you are the only patrons in the restaurant... We did end up leaving in a rush as we were running late towards the end. The bread was very good and warm out of the oven and was circulated twice, which was sufficient for us. The Amuse Bouche was I think asparagus, it lacked flavor all the way around - I added some salt and pepper hoping to liven it up. The wine by the glass is reasonably priced, but nothing special. Also, I found it odd that it was not served in red wine or pinot noir glasses. We ordered from the prix fixe and specials menu. The Prix Fixe menu provides more options and you can substitute any appetizer or entree not included on the Prix Fixe with an upcharge. We had the rock shrimp and pan-fried foie gras. The rock shrimp again lacked flavor, basically little cold cocktail shrimp. The foie gras was prepared well and had a decent flavor - he did think $29 was steep, but honestly we don't know what the current market price is to offer an intelligent argument for or against the price point. We have had foie gras prepared in France where you just were amazed by every bite - this was not the case here. Suckling Pig - we LOVE suckling pig and knew not to expect the same presentation we have encountered in Spain . This was pulled pork wrapped in I think bacon, though I'm sure it was supposed to be the skin... no flavor, tough, dry - not even good pulled pork. The presentation here was lacking, look at the pictures and judge for yourself. Rack of Lamb - again for the price point of $58 I expected good things here. The lamb was cooked perfectly to rare/med rare as requested. The side of the crispy potatoes were also executed very well - they had the vibe of being fried in goose fat. The lamb was flavorless, no spice or herb rub, no pomegranate reduction... I ended up adding salt and pepper again - which I am ashamed to admit. We ended up rushing through desert so I am not going to comment on that portion as I don't know we had a solid representation of what would be offered. The total meal was $208.65 and not worth the price point - There wasn't a single serving that was creative, original, interesting, tasty or provided a memorable experience other than being a waste of time and money. read more

Oh MY!! The finest restaurant in Sarasota!! A perfect spot to celebrate my birthday! Every caring moment of this evening was unique, creative, and exquisite with gorgeous elegant food from preparation to cooking to serving ! Such wonderful caring. I was lucky enough to call and ask if they might have a little table for 2 even though open table was full. I wanted to spend my birthday at the finest and it just felt right that this was my spot. The owner/chef answered and was so wonderfully understanding, caring and completely kind and welcoming!! Our waitor, Dejon was remarkable and made the evening from the first moment we arrived a special perfect evening. Excellent French restaurant on Longboat Key. Everything about Maison Blanche was tres bien. Their extensive wine list included many excellent options from both France and the United States. They have several good champagne and wine options by the glass as well. No cocktails. Their menu includes a variety of excellent starters and entrées. We had the octopus, blue crab, and rock shrimp starters - all of which were very tasty. The entrées were well presented and delicious. I had the fillet mignon, which was perfectly prepared. Linse enjoyed the salmon so much she hardly offered me a bite. Miao had the Mediterranean sea bass which he reported as excellent. The service was impeccable. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly a professional. He was also accommodating to our special requests. The ambience is ok: clean and a bit formal. We will be back. read more
