Just not a better total food and service and ambiance combo in greater Sarasota. We go each year (just about) in April during vacation (we're from Boston) for my Francophile wife's birthday and can't imagine a visit to Sarasota (or certainly LBK) without the delectable food of MB. For sure the location at the end of a tired condo is tres intéressant, but walking in has an Ali Baba WOW quality how they've turned the interior into a luscious circle of white with clean lines. The service - led by one of the married owners - is top-notch, befitting a full-M-star experience. This time a youngster served us with grace and confidence (maybe a smidge too confident!), and other times the serious but professional and most capable man (if we recall from Belgium?) took care of us. And the food! Sublime. Parisien. Harmonious. Light. Fresh. Seafood-focused, and they do it right. Excellent and not too long wine list - plenty of French, maybe too many non-French (for us!). Prix fixe is slightly confusing, but as our débonnaire young server said, "choosing the prix fixe unlocks the entire menu" so stick with it! Next was my wife's sea bass. Fantastic fish, great sauce, perfectly cooked! Bravo My dish was the duck. Waiter said it would be crispy on outside. Besides not being crispy, it was served raw. I sent it back and it did come back properly cooked, the problem for me was that it was almost impossible to cut, was completely flavorless. Sad considering French Bistros are known for duck. Not tonight. I sent it back again and the chef asked the waiter to ask me where I heard about the restaurant. I thought that was a strange question but can assume that he thought I was some tourist that he just needed to get out of his place vs a local resident. Regardless the waiter asked me what I wanted and I said just tell the chef to deliver anything that he feels proud of. I got a short rib and mashed potatoes in gravy. Fantastic dish! For $254 I could have done much better with half the drama in 10-20 great gourmet places in Sarasota. I'm happy I tried this little gem, I won't return. Too many great, great places in this city to waste an evening on. If you go, get the bread, have a glass of champagne and then got to Main Street . read more

The wine offerings are new and old world; broad and deep, both reds and whites. Ingredients are fresh and organic. Service is always attentive. Very smart move by the Chef because it gives me the financial excuse to go more than once a year. This was by far one of the best restaurants I've eaten at in my lifetime. You walk in to a circular room, with white table cloths and nice decor. It's dark inside since they have all the curtains closed, but it's part of the ambiance. Our server was very helpful and friendly, but in a reserved manner. The bus boy/servers helper was very nice and he brought us more bread multiple times. The bread, might I add, was delicious. For our dinner we ordered the pre fixe meal (foi gras and sweet breads) and the steak, which all were beyond amazing. They all were so tender and flavorful, seasoned to perfection. The plating was also beautiful. For dessert, we got the baked apple pastry, the chocolate hazelnut puff pastry, and the cheese platter. The apple dessert tasted like a perfectly crunchy croissant, wrapped around delicious sliced apples. The puff pastry was perfectly bouncy and the hazelnut chocolate filling and topping was wonderful. The cheese platter was just as great, although I'm more of a sweets person. I would highly recommend this place if you're ever in the area! read more

The ambience is a bit stuffy and pretentious, while stuck in a 90s Miami vibe. But the food....the food is delicious even down to the bread. We shared the vegetable appetizer and I got the ribeye, my wife got the short rib, and her mom got the halibut special. Everything was delicious. The steak was a prime steak and although it was slightly over cooked, it was delicious. The desserts were good as well. My favorite of the desserts was the apple almond crumble thing. We had a 5:30pm reservation because we have a 2 year old and a 4 month old, and the waiter was visibly annoyed (which was super annoying to me), but overall the restaurant was very good. Definitely better than almost all the restaurants on longboat key. read more

SPECTACULAR!! Maison Blanche is an excellent restaurant. In September of 2017, I moved to Florida from New York. At the risk of sounding arrogant, I am used to high quality restaurants, which are very common in Manhattan. I saw some reviews that were not favorable towards Maison Blanche, but those reviews ae unfounded. I was taking my girl out of a birthday dinner, and Maison Blanche did not disappoint but went well above my expectations. First, the decors is beautiful - elegant but simple. Second, the service was very good. The waiter was a young man who was a member of the family who owned the restaurant. Third, the presentation was spectacular. Fourth, and most importantly, the food was excellent. I had the special ravioli with truffles. It was amazing. For the entrée, I had the special poultry pie. This was PHENOMENAL! It was quail, duck, mushrooms, truffles and bacon layered in a pastry puff and surrounded by a red wine reduction sauce. If you like gamey flavors like I do, then you will love it. The woman I was with has the pate, which was excellent, and then the sea bass over a bed of spinach. Everything was cooked to perfection. For desert, we had the chocolate soufflé and the bread pudding, both of which were superb. The portions were just right. I have read people complaining about the portions, and I suspect they may like Carrabba's. Maison Blanch is not for the Carrabba's crowd. read more

The service, ambiance and presentation are all excellent. This establishment now offers a price fix menus for $64.00. It consists of a three course dinner. My wife selected for starters the escargot wrapped in a pasta. It was tasteless and disappointing. My pate was just alright. Our main course, sweet breads the other pork, were both disappointing. Portions are small. Our "light" bread pudding was extremely "light" and also lacked some "zip". Frankly, at these prices, we expected much more. This restaurant had always had a fine reputation for being one of Sarasota's best. No longer in our opinion! read more

This restaurant is truly overrated. I was expecting fine French dining after reading reviews. The food was awful. A prix fix menu that was not in the least appealing. So tired so bland. I felt like we were eating in an assisted living facility with menu to match. One choice was snapper with lemon. I had the tartare which had a big lump of raw egg not mixed in. Completely tasteless. My filet mignon at an up charge of $20 was over cooked, the purée potatoes cold. My sister had short ribs that tasted like a piece of fat. The desserts were good, small mercy. This restaurant should be called Maison Boring if anyone was going to be honest. It reminded me of some place mired in the 1980's with a menu firmly ensconced in past as well. The presentations were dull and nothing about the food was exceptional. The service was middling as well. I also felt the servers, while wearing face shields, should have been wearing a mask as well. Lovely, refined French restaurant. Perfect for quiet celebrations. The menu is relatively small but includes some uncommon choices like sweetbreads and (last night) seared foie gras. Very extensive wine list but no cocktails. I was very impressed with the originality of some of the dishes. One app was blue crab rolled around a core of cauliflower mousse with tiny bits of a curry sauce on the side. Doesn't sound all that great but it was amazing. The presentation of every dish was perfect and service was very attentive and unobtrusive. There are both a la carte and prix fixe menus and you can basically order anything from either side. Pricing does get a bit screwy if you pull an a la carte item into a prix fix order -- there seemed to be a $20 up-charge for doing so, even when the price of the a la carte item was less than $20. Sort of odd. There is no formal dress code but the decor begs diners to dress in keeping with the elegant setting. This was truly the loveliest dining experience I've had in the Sarasota area in the two years I've lived here. read more

It's off season in Sarasota so when we got there there was only 2 other couples in there. I was a bit nervous at the lack of patrons and the look of the outside of the restaurant which is attached to an average resort complex. Once inside the hostess was very friendly an seated the 4 of us at our table. The place is very nice inside and the bathrooms were spotless. My friend even commented how nice the hand soap was in the restroom. Now for the food experience. The server quickly took our drink order and brought out two selections of bread/rolls for the table. For appetizer we had the duck Foie gras and steamed octopus, both were amazing . My friend and I ordered the ribeye done medium rare with a side of the pepper sauce, mine with mashed potatoes and his with the vegetables. The girls ordered lobster and the short ribs. The server had my friend and I check the temperature of our steaks and they were perfect. We were each commenting how great our meal was. The steak was probably one of the best I have eaten out and the pepper sauce was superb. The hit of the night had to be the short ribs. In between appetizer and main course they brought out a cold soup in a shot glass . The soup was not for me but the girls loved it. For dessert we shared the apple tart and the pineapple desserts. There was nothing left on our plates. Just when we finished our desserts they brought out a finishing touch of another small dessert in a shot glass with a small pistachio marshmallow and little cookie on a plate. We talked about our dinner the whole way home. Do not miss this place it was a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back. read more
