One of the more casual spots on Bourbon Street. It opens right onto the street, and they have actual tables and much more seating than the places around it. It's more of a sit and chill bar. Good place to rest. The crowd is slightly older than the rest of the places we checked out on Bourbon Street. The bartenders were so nice. We came in towards the end of a set and moved from a bar to a table. The 5 minutes of the live jazz we heard was pretty good. Can't really speak for the performers, but chill bar vibes. read more

For sure this is the best jazz club that we enjoyed during our stay in New Orleans. Traveling as two twenty-something's, some of the other jazz clubs felt stuffy and catered to an older crowd. Don't get me wrong, there was a good blend of ages here, but the atmosphere is pretty casual. Compared to Fritzel's which is nearby, the seating is better and the setup is more spacious. The sets seem to last about 45 minutes followed by a 15 minute break. The posted sign says there is a one drink minimum per set, but on the nights we went, as long as you ordered one drink, they didn't seem to pushy about ordering a second one. Bands were good both nights. When we booked our trip to New Orleans, I imagined a great number of jazz clubs like this one--turns out that Maison Bourbon is the only one that actually met my expectations. read more

There's a New Orleans I've dreamed of visiting as a kid: good food, soulful music, romantic courtyards and flickering street lamps. Then there's Bourbon St. Comprised mostly of tacky bars, strip clubs and souvenir stores, this neon mess could make Las Vegas blush. It's like a big redneck frat party. You can't escape the disgustingly sugary drinks, blaring country music and Coors memorabilia. Git 'r done. I had given up hope. But then I found the Maison Bourbon. In the heart of Bourbon St., it seemed the exact opposite of its neighbors: quality drinks, an approachable staff and a diverse (mature) crowd. Jazz. Not country. Not country-rock or country-folk or country-fried chicken... JAZZ. (This IS still New Orleans, isn't it?) Ed, the bartender, goes over NOLA's current state of affairs as he serves up a well-made, perfectly sweetened mint julep. On stage, Jamil Sharif and his band rock out with multiple sets of great music. (You should've seen the Asian crew in the corner go nuts when they hit, "When the Saints Go Marching In...") It was an amazing place to be. So, I sat there, smiling and even a little misty-eyed, because I found exactly what I was looking for: New Orleans. And Bourbon St. is redeemed of its surrounding sins. I love when you ask a bartender to give you a drink based on various qualities, and then you receive the perfect drink. I asked the bartender to give me a drink that was sweet, strong, and made without caffeine and he gave me the most delicious Malibu Rum drink. At least I think that is what he called it. I don't know for sure, but I do know that it was strong and tasted good and was only $8. He was even nice enough to upgrade me to a bigger portion after I mentioned that my friend's drink was bigger than mine. I think the in-house band played on the Thursday and Saturday night I was by. Both times the band was jamming. They played the type of jazz that I expect form New Orleans: loud, brassy, funky, and fun. This is definitely one of the few gems on Bourbon Street. read more

If you are unconcerned with how much $$ you're dropping on a bev, then this is your spot. The music was outstanding -- Louis Armstrong guy fronting a 4 piece band. We enjoyed the tunes and it afforded us an on-Bourbon street opportunity to have a seat and enjoy what undoubtedly is a bar reminiscent of NoLa's past. That said, almost $20 for a vodka water and a beer is too much. I'm sure they have to pay really high rent and need to pay the band but that's pretty egregious from where I'm standing on a standard drink. Go to Frenchman or Fritzels for that big sound without the big tab. read more

I've always been weary of Bourbon Street, but Maison Bourbon is located downnn the block, away from all the craziness... which, if you think about it, makes sense. Just like when you go to those marketplaces and the most expensive "junk" is towards the front/entrance, but then as you walk in deeper, you find the hidden gems & trinkets. That's kind of like Maison Bourbon. Although drinks are standard - he got a few Jamesons, neat, and I got a few Hendricks drinks with Sprite. The band and atmosphere is what you come to Maison Bourbon for. The bartender who took our first drink orders ended up being part of the band. We got there JUST in time before they started playing (I think like 2a on a Friday night, so technically Saturday). We were lucky to have snagged two bar stools where we stayed, drank, watched, listened, and just enjoyed ourselves. I even got asked to dance by another guest who, just like me, was itching to dance a little salsa when the band played one latin-esque tune. Friendly, clean, older crowd. No drunken 20-somethings stumbling around or throwing up, but maybe a few 40- and 50-somethings a little tipsy. ;) There was a woman with a tiara who was celebrating her 50th birthday. We visited on Sunday night when the Saints were playing the Dallas Cowboys so all eyes including the jazz musicians' were on the progress of the game on the TV! It was a great experience - we sat at the bar and were served by a very friendly bartender and drank potent Hurricanes whilst listening to some great jazz. The atmosphere was terrific. read more

One of the remaining monuments to New Orleans jazz culture. I don't want to sound like your grandma, but I seem to remember a time when you could walk down Bourbon Street and pop into a random bar to hear a live jazz or zydeco band. Now it's all rap music and *shudders* dub step. While this place charges a premium on drinks, the atmosphere and live show more than make up for it. Hey, the drinks aren't bad either. We were originally recommended this bar by close friends who wanted us to see Jamil Sharif. Unfortunately, we learned he was retired and wouldn't be able to see this great man perform. However, we ended up stumbling upon the bar anyway and still had a great time. Unlike the rest of Bourbon street, it seemed to be filled with more serious music lovers who were really into the live music. The entire bar is focused on the band and it was a great vibe! I would say a bit pricier than other spots on Bourbon, but also more potent. I felt like we had a great time here and would highly recommend it! read more

Our group was asked to leave by one of the bartenders because he didn't believe that my friend was 30 despite having a valid ID. My friend was further told to "grow a beard." The whole interaction felt high-key discriminatory. From reading the other reviews, it looks like this bartender might be a re-occurring issue. 10 bucks for an Irish Coffee seems a little steep, but hey, you're on Bourbon Street and there is only one drink per set required. That said, if you want some serious jazz and not some booty shaking cover band or twangy country, this is the place to be. The space itself it right on the corner so you get a good breeze when it gets crowded. The sound isn't too bad with the other establishments blasting their bands out into the street and there is not pressure to get schnookered. Def for the more laid back type and Sunday is not very crowded. read more

We wanted to listen to some authentic Jazz while in New Orleans and we found this place in Bourbon street. We didn't stay very long Drinks are pricey and nothing special. Service was ok, also nothing special for what they charge. The music was great, Jamil Sharif and band were playing and they were quite good. Have said that, they were soooooo concerned about people filming and photographing that made it a little stiff. As soon as they would stop singing or playing their instrument they went on watchdog mode, scanning the room and telling people (mostly by the window outside) not to film them. At one point they stop playing until whoever was filming to stop. So, I understand is the bar rule or whatever but the band should be entertaining and chilled out, have the waiters telling people to stop. Overall, not the best experience but not terrible either read more

Pros: One of the last places for live music on Bourbon. Extremely talented Jazz musicians. Table seating so you can rest your feet from all that Quarter walking. Cons: Drink minimum. Not the friendliest of staff for a place that requires table service. No video recording allowed. They had a big sign behind the stage which I missed (Bourbon st. drinking) and had my phone out which got me a finger wagging from the band leader. My mistake! Meh. If I'm looking for a seated Jazz experience while in the Quarter, I'll head over to Preservation hall or The Davenport Lounge first, but if I must, this place works too. THIS IS MY FAVORITE PLACE IN ALL OF NEW ORLEANS!!! I just love coming here every time I am in town. I come here by myself or with friends. It does not matter, because I just love to sit and listen to the music and drink mojitos. The staff don't care if you bring in a drink from outside, but you should at least buy one drink while you are there. The two jazz bands I like to see are Jamil Shariff and Dawne Burns. They play there almost all the time and you are sure to see at least one of them with the rest of their band. It is great and the one song i love to listen to the most is Saint James Infirmary. That is just good New Orleans Jazz. The prices are a bit steep. Most drinks run about $9 but there is no cover. Mojito is not on their menu but you can ask for one anyway...after all, it is a Mint Julep replaced with Rum instead of Bourbon. The place can get pretty crowded on the weekends and during special events like Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest. It is a must see place that is in the heart of Bourbon Street. read more

Our favourite place on B.St by far. While most places have gone to the dark side and blast recorded blah pop music this jazz joint is still playing traditional foot stomping clap along feeling happy jazz classics with pizzazz!! We visited daily, sometimes twice daily as we were walking around the FQ and Frenchman St and they were the best we saw. We even enjoyed it more than Preservation Hall!! Drinks were not too expensive, they serve coffee, Hurricanes are strong and go down well in the heat. Waitress service with a smile. We loved the music so much we bought quite a few CDs. Make sure you tip the players well, they deserve it. read more

Worst customer service ever! I wish I got the guys name that was cutting up orange slices when we got there. When we walked in we weren't greeted our friends sat down and out of curiosity we asked the guy who was cutting up orange slices if they served fish bowls. No eye contact when he replied and shrugged and said "no!". Ok fast forward to when our husbands stayed while we went looking for some down bourbon street. Came back only to sit down and have him walk over and say "you can't have outside drinks here!" We sat across from a table of guys who had hand grenade drinks from down the street. Who have been sitting there since we got there. But nothing was said to them. I pointed this out to him and he said he was on his way to tell them. How convenient was it to us that he came to us who just got there verse the table that had outside drinks from the time we got there. I didn't get the chance to really experience this place (drinks, food etc) but because of the customer service from this Grumpy old Santa Claus I will not come back neither will I recommend this to anyone in the future! read more

Very much enjoyed this place. It's a touristy spot on bourbon but it's great because they always have a jazz band. The bartenders are attentive and friendly. The drinks are a bit pricey but it's very open so it's a great place to sit, people watch, listen to music, and have a good time. Also I love how the place is decorated for Halloween! They have live jazz music for anyone who is interested. I enjoyed a nice bottle of IPA beer at this saloon. It was welcoming and definitely was a great time sitting and listening to live jazz. It is on bourbon street so there is always a heavy crowd. Usually this place attracts a lot of the older crowd rather than the young crowd, but if you love jazz music it is great to experience. You are free to dance and tip the band as you please. They have a menu that offers minimum good items like appetizers and other finger foods to pick at while you enjoy the music. Service is always fast and efficient the two times I went and I have no complaints about anything. They have to go cups sitting by each door in case you decide to walk and enjoy bourbon street. I highly recommend Masions if you love jazz music and want to relax a bit from the big crowd. read more

This is what I expect when I think of a New Orleans jazz bar. Though it's on Bourbon Street, it's a little further down from the regular hustle and bustle. The band that was playing the night we visited provided a great set of bluegrass jazz. No food menu - it would have been good to have some nibbles but all good - order some drinks and grab a table right up from and just enjoy the music. There is a sign about the reads "DEDICATED TO TUE PRESERVATION OF JAZZ" and this is exactly what you'll get here. read more

Just stumble upon this place while walking the great and nasty street that is bourbon. Dj was playing the best 80's-early 90's hip hop hits. Huge dance floor, great bartenders, very good priced drinks. They also have a decent sized courtyard in the back along with that bathrooms (which compare to other bathrooms on bourbon st might be one of the more cleaner ones and it's not that clean). Seems like a lot of people look past this place because there was always seats available. I think this is one of the better places on bourbon actually and a nice place to come and have a drink and take a break from the madness that is bourbon street. read more
