This is by far my favorite bar on Bourbon. Yes... Bourbon... It's much like Sunset Blvd in Hollywood but a helluva lot cooler and much more beautifully jaded. The house jazz band is exactly how you imagined New Orleans to be before you stepped off the plane. We always started out our nights here on our 8 day vacation to this magical city. Bourbon Street is a tourist trap, yes. But, there still is something about this booze littered street that draws you in. It could be the the big haired blondes from Texas, screaming "Whoo!!!" after every shot, it could be the "cabaret" aka strippers standing outside each bar showing off their finely bruised thighs, trying to entice you to a lap dance, or it could just be all the sounds and smells of debauchery, but for whatever reason you're drawn in, make sure to stop by Maison. It'll keep you sane. Enjoy the slightly overpriced drinks and don't sit on the toilets. read more

Hmmm...okay, here's the situation: this would be a pretty great place if it wasn't on Bourbon St. We ended up here one night after a day of hanging out in the Quarter and we were pretty surprised- the staff is friendly, drinks aren't crazy expensive and there was a live band rocking out and actually playing listenable music and not TOP 40. The main problem is the crowd. Of course, you're on Bourbon, so everyone is rowdy and loud and drunk. The place is fairly small and it was crowded, so people were pushing each other out of the way to get to the bar. There are tables and chairs throughout the venue, that are almost in the way when there are a lot of people and a band is playing. I think if this bar was a little more "off the beaten path" it would be more stars, but I'm sure the owners are making their money, so what do I know? Stop in to see a band, but brace for a Bourbon crowd. read more

Great jazz found here ! If you tire of the cover bands and dance music most clubs on Bourbon play, stop in here, grab a drink (1 drink per set minimum) and enjoy some cool jazz. This is more traditional jazz as opposed free or modern which seems appropriate given this is New Orleans. Drinks prices were normal ($6-7 for beer, cocktails around $8-10) service was good and sound is excellent. Customer service is good. They allowed me to charge my dying phone. The mojito drink is nice. The strawberry daiquiri was just ok. Whatever you order, you pay immediately. It was very cold where we sat, which was against the wall near the stage. The live band was great. Talented musicians!! They stopped at 12:15 am. If you want real jazz in New Orleans, this is the only place to be. Other places and even the Preservation Hall were playing top 40. They don't charge cover, but drinks are a little expensive, and they do ask their guests to get a drink per person per set. I rented this venue for a party during a trade show. Jeanne was great T helping me plan this important client event. The food was high quality and the drinks were very strong. The balcony was a lot of fun as well. It provides a nice people watching post. Prices for the party were also very reasonable. I would highly recommend this venue for parties. read more

Technically I just came here for drinks, but in reality it seemed like a meal! I would definitely recommend this place because it's in a local's area away from the touristy part of Bourbon Street in the Frenchmen district. Do NOT come here. Worst bar on Bourbon street by far! Absolutely terrible customer service, if I could give them 0 stars I WOULD! My husband and I came in sat at the edge of the bar and got served promptly. We order a glass of wine and a mojito. The mojito came and it tasted like vodka 7 with a mint leaf so we nicely sent it back. We never send back anything BTW, so we felt bad but this was clearly not even close to a mojito. The waitress was extremely rude saying "um okay, mojito isn't supposed to have vodka in it". She took it up to the bar and then turned around and brought our original drink back to us saying the bartender wouldn't remake it. No apology, no sincerity, nothing. That my friends is POOR Customer Service. We paid $9 for a mojito and the bartendar won't remake it? We didn't order a $9 vodka 7! Bartenders are incompetent and don't know how to make a proper mojito. Also, waitress with long dark hair is rude and insincere. We will gladly go to every other bar on Bourbon street. This was a total accident hit because Preservation Hall was sold out for the night so we headed towards Bourbon and bam there was Maison Bourbon. We took a chance, got a table, and nice cocktail and it was well worth it. The band was sooo amazing and put on a great set. Being there made me missed music and is gonna forced me to turn off the radio of looped songs of Taylor Swift and Iggy Azalea to listen to more class throwback music. Ok, the music was GREAT, and the atmosphere inside the club had a really neat authentic feel. But their manager/door guy/whatever, Zach, ruined it for me by trying to pick me up, after he invited me into the bar which has a drink minimum. I'm ok with the minimum--absolutely not ok with being hit on by someone who's also asking me to spend money in their establishment. Thankfully he wasn't aggressive, but it was still creepy. I hope Zach figures out that being an unaccompanied female doesn't equate to looking for male companionship. Best place on Bourbon Street to sit down and have drinks. None of that craziness with super loud music and/or over-served patrons everywhere else. The live bands are always good - every time I go here its Jazz - drink prices are reasonable, decent selection. Been coming here throughout my 30s and even now at age 39 still I am usually one of the younger people in the audience. A table or bar stool is almost always available when you arrive even with a decent sized crowd, great place to relax. If you're a bro looking to bro it up with your bros, this place ain't for you, bro. The Krazy Korner is across the street and the Big Ass Beers place is a short stumble away for you. read more

Do NOT be fooled by sign outside the building. This place is NOT Preservation Hall which is down the street at 726 St. Peters St. We ended up here because the REAL Preservation Hall was closed due to the Foo Fighters having some party there. We enjoyed the music but left after about an hour. This place has tourist written all over it as it is right on Bourbon Street. They are worth stepping into if you need some jazz and Preservation Hall is closed. Mandatory drinks at $10-$13/each take the place of a cover charge. The clarinet player was amazing. The trumpet player was obnoxious and kind of a jerk who was a mediocre musician at best and wouldn't allow anyone to film them. While the clarinet player was jamming, the trumpet player (who I think was supposed to be the "leader" as there is a 20 year old photo of him above the bar) was trying to get the attention of an older gentleman patron who was trying to take a photo. The trumpet player bullied him mercilessly until he stopped which included shining a flashlight in the poor man's eyes and making crazy hand gestures to get him to stop. The man was clearly embarrassed as he he meant no harm. He was in New Orleans, having a great time and wanted to take a photo of a band he was seeing on Bourbon Street. I'm not sure why they don't want people to film them...there are PLENTY of bands that get great exposure from You Tube and viral videos. I would have loved to have a quick few minutes of the clarinet player - we loved him and the rest of the band was great too - the piano player, the bass player and the drummer. If the trumpet player had spent more time learning his instrument and less time bullying the patrons, I would have given this place four stars. My boyfriend enjoyed it more than I did because he's a jazz musician. I will admit the music was great. The drinks were meh. read more

I have been to NOLA twice and every single night I explore the town, compare the jazz bars to this place and end up right back at Maison Bourbon. Unbelievable true jazz music - quartets and quintets heavy on the amazing trumpeters, though all members are outstanding. The staff is great, provided you treat them with the respect they deserve and don't act like a drunk 21 year old. Prices are comparable to everywhere else on Bourbon St., only here you get to experience truly amazing jazz - isn't that what New Orleans is all about? If you are out to get drunk and throw beads, there is nothing wrong with that - go to Jesters and get your lousy Hand Grenade and act like a fool in the street. If you truly love jazz, appreciate music, and want to experience what everyone imagines NOLA to be, come to this place. I will keep coming back whenever my boss and my wallet allow me to visit. read more

This place just reeks of cool, amazing that it exists on Bourbon St. The sounds of beautiful old time jazz just pulled me in as I was wandering around dodging the drunks. So I sat at the bar and ordered my goto frat boy drink, red bull and absolut vodka, $10. I'll be honest, ordering that drink in this place made me feel like a fraud. House rules was one drink per set, I had three. I also noted that I could count the number of 20-30's people in the place with one hand, shameful. The band was fantastic and I don't care if you hate jazz, this place will make you a believer. After the set I stumbled out into the wilds of Bourbon St. Three hours and many more drinks later I stumbled back in and watched another band which was just as good as the first. RIP OFF ALERT. Let me start by saying the live music was good, BUT, the drinks were so outrageously priced we didn't stay long enough to enjoy it. With so many options for live music in the Quarter and on Frenchman street with cheap drinks, I would never spend my money here again. Our group ordered 5 Coors lights (bottles, not Pints or 'HUGE ASS BEER' sizes) and the tab was $33.50. WHAT?! Yes, they charge $6.50/per bottle of shitty beer. They were doing 3-1 deals across the street, which we moved to immediately. We had already started drinking our beers before I paid so I was unable to return them. It's my fault for not asking. In conclusion, there are SO MANY options in and around the Quarter, why anyone would spend money on stadium-priced drinks here is beyond me. Do your wallet a favor and go elsewhere. read more

Big Easy Brawlers! The tables you see in some photos had been removed as the place was packed. A couple of musicians wandered in and joined them onstage which added another trumpet and a saxophone. This place was a nice escape from the craziness on Bourbon st. There was the cutest live band playing. They were adorable and they sounded good. There was the cutest lady on the drums that stole my heart. I came in and asked for a drink menu, yes, I'm bougie, I've accepted this already. One of the few saving graces of Bourbon St! Older crowd, not a rowdy dive, and GREAT live jazz. As with most bars in NOLA, smoking is allowed, which takes away from it for those of us allergic to cigarette smoke, but the live jazz makes it must easier to tolerate. Your dayshift bartender was extremely rude today. I asked him a question he mumbled something inaudible and continued to play on his phone right in front of me. We were seemingly the only two people in the building so he wasn't at all too busy to answer my question. I stood there for a good thirty seconds before just walking out. For the jazz and cool vibe of the Maison Bourbon, I would probably give the place 5 stars. Good music (not that "smooth" jazz or 70s funk-inspired garbage), no cover, dive-y New Orleans atmosphere. It was a lot of fun--went here several nights on a recent visit to the crescent city. The mix of people in the crowd was pretty diverse in terms of both age and appearance. However, terrible service and Bourbon street [extortionist] prices bring the place down a couple stars. read more

This place and Fritzel's are the best bars along the main drag on Bourbon. Good music and atmosphere and not nearly as sloppy as some of its neighbors. Don't get me wrong--it's still a fun Bourbon Street bar but when we were there at least, the crowd didn't seem quite as skewed towards college spring breakers from the SEC. I don't have anything against the more typical bar on Bourbon but it's nice to have something different along the main drag. Like I said, we really enjoyed the great New Orleans jazz that we heard here. It seemed like most of the neighboring bars (as in the bars along this part of Bourbon) had bands that were just belting out whatever their audience wanted to hear (mostly top 40 or oldies) so this is a great place to hear some good jazz. read more

So rude. It was freezing outside so I decided to buy a hot drink. It said in the sign "hot Toddy", so I went in and waited for the bartender to ask him what that drink was. After a while, he asked me if I wanted something and I said: "could you tell me please what is a Toddy?". He replied: "have you got a smartphone?" And I said "yes" and he added: "then look it up", and just like that he left me standing there. I was shocked and thought maybe was a joke; I don't have internet in USA so I couldn't look up what the drink was. So then I waited for him to return and take my order, but he completely ignored me and continued to serve other customers. I left, obviously, angry and frustrated for his really bad manners. Great jazz bar that makes some delicious cocktails. I really enjoyed our visit here. I especially liked the fact that it didn't cost an arm and a leg to watch some great jazz. I believe they have a 1 drink per person minimum, and although we ordered a drink, I don't think anyone would have said anything if we just wanted to sit and watch some jazz. The service was laid back and relaxed. The jazz was superb, and the cocktails were decent. The place can get a little cramped if it is packed, but this is one of the better places to enjoy jazz on bourbon street. Frenchman street is supposed to be even better known for their jazz clubs, but we haven't ventured out there yet during our stay. read more

I've always wanted to listen to live jazz on Bourbon St. in NOLA and this was the place it happened in! It's a very intimate setting in the midst of a crazy drunk Bourbon St. right across from a poppin' overcrowded club playing mainstream music. I reallyyyy liked the ambiance here. The crowd was slightly older than the other bars, but I didn't mind at all! I felt like I was the youngest one there, but I enjoyed myself nonetheless. There is no cover charge to enter, but the catch is a 1 drink minimum order. The drinks are pretty pricey, but I think it's because they are served a bit fancier. I ordered a blue moon and it came in a pretty wine glass type thing with an orange on top. If you want to appreciate live jazz music and be in a calm atmosphere, definitely check this place out! read more

Excellent, excellent jazz. Ended up there two nights in a row after trying out other joints in the area. The first night was a Louis-esque band. The second played St. Louis blues. One drink minimum, which puts you back 10 bucks, but no cover. Excellent mint julips, as well as a great dirty gin martini. This place was great. We went to NOLA for our honeymoon and as we were walking by, we were drawn in by a woman that was singing. Her name was Alex Bosworth and she could have put Nora Jones to shame. So we figured we would try a mint julep while we listened. It was by far the best in the city. I HATE whiskey and I loved this drink. My husband and I went back daily to get one. Most days a bartender named Jamie was working and they were great so pray you get her as your bartender because the other girl (a blonde) seemed less than enthused to even be there. There are no happy hour specials, but with the quality of the julep that I had, we gladly paid the $6 every time. I will also say that this place had the cleanest bathrooms in the entire city (with the exception of the airport). It gets pretty packed on the weekend and they have live music most nights. I believe that Alex sings on Thursday afternoons and I would highly recommend catching her set. It was a great bar and we will definitely visit during our next trip to NOLA. read more

Let me start by saying that I will definitely be back. The music here was amazing. That being said, the service here is 'ok' at best. Me and my significant other had the opportunity to do a jazz tour and Maison Bourbon was the first place we stopped. We were seated, as a group, towards the back and had such an amazing time. The group that played was talented and we were shocked to learn that many of the groups that play here are impromptu; meaning that they follow no particular song and its sometimes the first time they have ever played together. The service, on the other hand, was a joke. The bouncer/host guarding the door had no people skills and verged on being rude SEVERAL times. He haphazardly seated people with a point of his hand and did not take the time to smile the whole time we were there. Our server was a notch better, but messed up everyones drink order at the table. We returned the next night, as a couple, and the next server wasn't any better. Seriously, why would you tell your customer that they can't order a virgin daiquiri even after you tell them that you just ordered one the night before? So even though i'm still young and hanging onto my twenties- i still feel like i'm part of the older crowd as far as going out goes most of the time. I don't want to have anyone with a five dollar beer or any other giant container of frozen drinks bump or spill their drink on me. So bourbon st would probably in general be somewhere i might avoid at all costs now that i have seen it once.... That said Maison Bourbon was a lovely oasis(of a few that are available on bourbon st) from the rest of the surrounding bars that belted out sweet home alabama, techno dance music, bad pop and/or pour some sugar on me. I was a little worried as I walked in between sets that the bar across the way could drown out any music that was being played here, but i was happily surprised when this was not the case. This was exactly the kind of live music I was hoping to find in new orleans- some good old jazz some of the dixie kind. I stayed for a while with my friend. If you are looking for cheap drinks this is not the stop to make, but the hike in prices eliminates a cover charge and adds the 'controlled' atmosphere. There will be a few older women going nuts over the music, but it adds to the atmosphere in a fun way. Funny thing- you have to walk outside through a courtyard to get to the bathrooms... read more

We stopped in here for about 15 minutes and had a glass of wine. They had a William Hill Chardonnay which is basic and pretty common. The music was good and it is the main reason I would go here. Our bartender was Stacy and she was nice and attentive. All in all, it's a typical Bourbon Street bar with live music and that's not a bad thing. This is the kind of place that makes all of French Quarter debauchery forgivable and worth-it; support this establishment for the preservation of jazz and love of NOLA. Excellent live jazz, friendly-enough competent-enough bartenders (and hosts), outdoor seating available, half hourish sets with one drink minimum. My only disappointment was that the average age of the crowd was somewhere between old and still racist a couple of the evenings I passed by.
