Three Muses After half a day soaking in the sunshine, jazz, blues, and gospel at the 2026 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival I headed back to Canal Street to chill for a minute before looking for dinner and music on the festival's first Thursday. I'm aging out of late night shows, so I took a pass on seeing Kings of Leon, Raye, Stephen Marley, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Blind Boys of Alabama, and Cowboy Mouth. Instead, I headed toward Frenchmen Street, and the Three Muses. The musicians from Bad Penny Pleasuremakers were setting up as I arrived around 6 p.m. By the time my drinks arrived the band was in full swing mode. Mills at the bar took my order - beef bulgogi ($16), a bottle of PBR ($5), and a Maker's Mark neat ($10) did the job. I paid at the bar and took the number letting the server know where to deliver the meal. The band kicked in, and I was transported to heaven. This is a small, open space where the band can dominate without being intrusive. I took my time with my meal, soaking up the generous vibe the band was sharing with the 20 or 30 of us in the hall. I should note a local resource that might get unsung: 99.7 wwoz tracks the music of New Orleans year round, and does a great job alerting us to venues and performances at places like Three Muses. read more

we had a less than stellar time here. tbf, we had come in with a different expectation because the last time we had visited was YEARS ago and remembered it being so fun and delicious; come to find this bar has become a lot more folksy and a lot less restauranty. we came on a friday night around dinner time and it was practically empty. their menu only had 6-10 items on it. it was all kind of korean fusiony. the food did taste really good, but the portions were small. i thought their signature cocktail was also only okay. there were two people working behind the bar and maybe 3 tables in the whole restaurant with a band playing. i heard the table behind us say something like "huh, i guess we have to go order at the bar" because no one ever checked on them (nor us) so we ordered at the bar too. there are a lot of little fees listed on their menu. 3$/pp goes to the band. gratuity included. but then the singer of the band came around with a tip bucket and kind of got into our faces about tipping the band. while we were eating dinner. my friend threw in a $20 for the table, and then the singer continued to solicit us individually for more tips. it was SO tacky. we were still hungry but decided to just leave instead of ordering more. we just wanted to get out of there. read more

The only way to get a table is to order something from their menu. The other option is bar seating. The bar was full when we arrived on Saturday 7:30 December 7th. We wanted to sit so we ordered the chocolate bread pudding. They were out of ice cream, which it usually comes with it. It was rich and warm, it would have been better with ice cream, but it was still good. It was worth it just to get a seat. The vibe was enthusiastic and upbeat. Live music at this venue was fantastic!! We heard the Orphaned Storyline band - very entertaining, talented, and fun! Food came out quick and service was good, jazz club vibes. We loved the cauliflower bites with the spicy Korean Gochujang sauce but the chicken rice bowl was underwhelming, I did not like the seasoning of chicken. You're likely better off with the Bulgogi Bowl instead. The muse fries were undercooked and very litely seasoned. They were decent with Louisiana hot sauce and ketchup but nothing special. read more

Didn't try the food, but Three Muses is an under 21 friendly jazz club with music daily. My 17 year old son and I went twice while in New Orleans, and we enjoyed the music, the laid back ambience, the attentive and friendly service, and the strong mixed drinks (for me). I would be happy to attend even if I were not accompanied by a minor. Go and enjoy! read more

The music was great but the drinks not so much, high prices and barely any alcohol in the cocktails. My face always get flushed with any amount of alcohol so i know when my drinks are water down. They auto add 20% tip to your bill too. Hope that extra $3 music fee really goes to the band when they still have to pass around the tip jar. read more

Was a bit wary of checking this place out because some of the reviews but so glad we went in, was so worth it. Friendly and attentive service, tasty drinks and the good food. All the plates were a good size. The gumbo was nice and spicy, the chicken sandwich was YUMMMMM and the red beans and rice was "f**king incredible" to quote my dinner companion. Heads up, if you're a person that likes a "little spice", this is much more than that so order accordingly. We started with fries along with our drinks and they were equally delicious (you gotta like perfectly fried fries). This small restaurant with a small menu does it right. The ambiance, service, jazz musicians are awesome. We came on a Saturday evening for early dinner at 7pm and were greeted by very friendly staff. Not only were we seated quickly, we were given some amazing advice on the menu items. We ordered the Korean fried chicken sandwich, Ms Moons bulgogi rice bowl, and the muses fries. The muses fries came tossed in a Korean seasoning and served with a side of lemongrass ginger aioli. We also added the Alfredo sauce and the debris, which was pulled pork with gravy. This appetizer was very good, I preferred the Alfredo sauce than the debris but both were tasty. The Korean fried chicken sandwich had a decent sized super crispy chicken patty with amazing seasoning. Paired with the slaw and their Korean sauce, this dish became my favorite. My meal came with either fries or gumbo and I opted for the chicken gumbo. My wife had the bulgogi bowl which goes away from the original bulgogi flavors but still tasty in itself. Had dinner here on a weekday night because we saw the live band from the street. The food was a bit disappointing, particularly The bulgogi bowl. The meat was very hard to chew, and it really wasn't authentic. The fries as appetizers were way too salty. Our waitress was patient and nice though. The band was pretty good. They went around to every table and asked for tips after each of their sets, which was a little disrupting. At least they had clean and spacious bathrooms. Overall, the food wasn't great. Easiest way to sum things up just don't go. lol. The bartender is extremely rude when asked for a glass of ice water you would have thought it was asking for a miracle. She says that they don't do ice water what kind of bar does not offer ice water????? It took the cook in the back to come out after hearing how shocked we all were at the bar to say they could pour a bottle of water into a glass of ice. Next the owner clearly must be penny pinching or not paying the employees a proper wage. There is a $3 per person fee added to the bill for just being in their and when asked to pay that part separately there was a 20% tip automatically added to cover fee to listen to the band. Where you have ever been that charges a tip on a cover?????? Oh and you would think by now they are already shaking you by your ankles but that's not even it. They then have a person who goes around with a "tip" bucket constantly shaming customers into feeling as if the $3 cover and the automatic 20% tip was not enough. And maybe it wasn't if you received exceptional service but this was so far from. Would not waste your time here, drinks suck, bartender woke up on wrong side of bed and the owner nickel and dimes everything. Surprised there wasn't a fee to wash your hands after using the restroom. Would ever go back so many better places to enjoy yourself in New Orleans. read more

On a recent trip to NOLA, we decided to try Three Muses (May 18, 2025). I had read that the restaurant was accommodating for us Celiac folks. In fact, the hostess outside the door assured me the night before that they would completely accommodate my need if we came back. But I am not convinced that they did. They tried. Anyway, we had a good meal, enjoyed the music, and I didn't get sick (surprisingly). First the good: The music was awesome. That night, we heard Betty Shirley and her combo. They were stellar! Real jazz and not ear-splittingly loud like some of the other venues. Our server didn't know what they had that was gluten free, but he did go back and check for me. I wound up with about the only option which was the Jazzy Chicken Wings with no sauce. They only have one fryer, so there was cross-contamination. The server (Bryan) was great to check on that for me. I'm still puzzled why the Still Rose Wine was not pink and tasted like Chardonnay. I didn't bother him with it because I already felt like I was enough trouble with my gluten issue. My husband loved his Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich. The atmosphere was cozy and very "jazzy." So here's what bothered both of us: In this day and age, you need to have at least two completely gluten free options on your menu. Almost every other restaurant does...even in New Orleans! Next, not only do they charge a live music fee of $3/person (totally fine and expected), but to also automatically charge 20% gratuity for "parties of 1 or larger" (as stated on the menu and bill) is shocking! We always tip 20% and then more if we are exceptionally impressed; however, we know people who tip 0%. Fortunately, the service was great! We even forgot something at the table and Bryan held onto it for us when we came to get it the next day. Thanks, Bryan! Unfortunately, I won't be back because it's just not worth risking a gluten response. Fix that, and we would come back on our next trip. read more

While I'm New Orleans I wanted to have one "band in a restaurant" dining experience and so I made reservations here (deposit required on Tock). We had to wait a few minutes to get seated and quite a few folks were told there was a long wait for a table, so if you have your heart set on dining here I would definitely make a reservation. We were seated at the high tops near the back of the intimate restaurant and there was a clarinet/saxophonist and piano duo entertaining us for the evening. We both started with a cocktail which we both loved, and shared the pork buns which were really good. I decided on the Banh mi sandwich and my bf had the noodle soup. I didn't get to try any of his but I really liked the sandwich. The seasoning on the fries is different but tasty, and they went well with the sandwich and the aioli (which I usually don't like with fries). The service was great and the music was the perfect backdrop to the meal. They do have a small menu and you won't find any traditional New Orleans fare on it, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. read more

We wandered into the Three Muses while exploring Frenchman St after finishing our tattoos at the Electric Ladyland shop. We were encouraged to go in to Three Muses by my what appeared to be, a local gentleman sitting outside touting about their food offerings. Unfortunately, they were not serving hot food at that time but we did sample the drink menu...it was sparse due to the staff not knowing where to locate all the necessary ingredients for all the cocktails on their menu but I lucked out and they had what was needed for the signature martini I longed for as well as for my husbands go to, Long Island. My husband and I came here a year or so ago and recalled having a great time and enjoying the band and food. We stopped in again this past weekend and it was in the afternoon, there was a band playing-they were on the last song about to take a break-there were 4 of us, we sat down at a table and I went up to the bar to order some drinks, and was told I would have to pay $3 per person to hear the band in addition to the 20 percent gratuity that is automatically added, ( and don't be fooled like I was-after you get your bill that already has added 20 percent gratuity, it still asks you would you like to leave a tip) to which I replied with "they're not even playing and we only came in for one drink". She waived the $12 band fee, which was nice, but after thinking about it, the extra $12 with another 20 percent gratuity added, AND the band comes around with the tip jar to each table makes me not want to go back. I understand that this is how bands make their living, and we ALWAYS tip the band. But to be forced to pay up front really makes me not want to come back. read more

My soupy mein dish was good but there wasn't much to it. Fries were good but my friend couldn't stomach the po boy. Sadly we were disappointed in how over priced everything was. Be advised that you are charged three dollars per person not cover at the door but cover on your overall bill because of the live music. Also automatic 20% service charge. What a beautiful, intimate, and delicious place to spend an evening! Our group was looking for fusion that was lighter than the food we'd had for previous meals and this was perfect! I ordered the special; crab salad layered on a crispy, flaky leek tart with micro greens. It was exactly the meal I needed! It was an orchestra of flavor wrapped up in a perfectly sized comfort package. Feeling let down. The only reason I give two stars is because the spot supports local musicians and artists which I appreciate. We had been looking forward to coming to the restaurant for some time, as the themed cocktails sounded good and the idea of Korean-Creole fusion was interesting. However, the rude service and insane prices made the experience unbearable. The service is probably some of the worst I've had. We came when the restaurant opened at six and waited 45 minutes to get our drinks. It was another 30 to get the bill. We decided to finish our drinks and leave, as it would've been another hour to get a couple sandwiches. Additionally, we saw the bartender snap at another customer for questioning why his bill was so high when he had only ordered one drink. Very unpleasant to witness and a severe mood-killer. For four watered-down cocktails, the gratuity fee (which applies for parties of one and higher, ridiculous, I know), and the live music charge, our bill came out to $80. Without food... The cocktails were subpar, in NOLA you can get something better for less, and the 20% gratuity charge is the ultimate kick in the face. I do support the live music charge ($3 per person), but $80 for four drinks and no food is mind-boggling. There are better spots with kinder service and more reasonable pricing, spend your money and your night elsewhere. read more

The signature drinks and local craft brew selection was solid, too -- the Muse was an excellent cocktail with gin, cucumber, blueberry, elderflower and lime. They have live music and a full bar. Nice little restaurant on Frenchman St., a little bit away from all that mess on Bourbon. It was a Friday afternoon and there was some live music inside. This spot has a small, interesting menu as it features some familiar Asian dishes with a modern twist. Ordered the following: - Mini Pork Bao: Four mini baos stuffed with pork. This was really, really good. The bun was soft and doughy and made a perfect container for the pork, which was juicy and flavorful. All four went down fairly quickly. - Mandu Burger: large, 6 Oz. patty that had plenty of flavor. The kimchi infusion gave it some kick and a bit of texture. The two work really well together. Served with some fries and an aioli. Definitely recommend. Everything is a little on the pricey side, but the experience was worth it. Super nice waitstaff and they pay a lot of attention to little details: real cutlery, heavy duty napkins, clean restroom...great job! read more

Randomly walked into this place after being unsuccessful in finding a large table on a moments notice on a Friday night around Frenchman street and I see why they had availability. The food was horrible. Almost everything we ordered was bland and just meh. I got a noodle bowl and the meat was fine, the noodles were too hard and my side of kimchi tasted off? Like maybe it wasn't fermented enough? I was so looking forward to it as kimchi is one of my favorites and I was royally disappointed. The shrimp, brussels sprouts and fries were ok. Service wise, our waitress was ok. I could tell she was getting a little overwhelmed but I'll admit I was not with an easy group of people so she did her best. The drinks were also tasteless and inconsistent. My two friends got vodka sodas and they tasted wildly different from each other. I'll add a star for the band, they were great and lively! Dive bar type feel with basic drinks and beers. Music performances are varied. They do have some jazz. The night we were, there was a fun folk/accordion band. They have bar food (egg rolls, bao buns, fries, Brussels sprouts, sandwiches, rice bowls), and they aren't too crowded. Worth a stop while on a tour of Frenchman Street or while waiting for the Blue Nile to open up at 7 PM, but not a destination. read more

An almost entirely lovely evening until... So we came for a fun, early set by Leslie Martin and enjoyed a very nice dinner and a couple of beers. We wandered off for a bit to catch another band at another club, but with every intention of returning to hear Nanci Zee, which we did, arriving just after the start of her first set. Ms Zee is a wonderful vocalist and was accompanied by very good upright bass player and very accomplished pianist. They deserved to be heard and enjoyed. Sadly, the door to the club remained open to the thunderous cascade of music and street noise from outside. The club was more than three quarters full and it seemed quite disrespectful to audience and performers to not close the door. I asked our server who was very understanding and apologetic and who brought our request to the manager. Unfortunately, our entreaty fell on deaf ears. I mean, I get it, you want the place to be open and inviting and hope that passers by will have a little taste and want to wander in. That never happened during the 30 minutes of our time there. And we would have stayed longer, had another drink, had it been what we'd hoped for. All kudos to staff and performers. I hope, that if we return (for a fourth visit), management might try to thread the needle and come down on the side of pleasing the audience they have. Bird in hand, eh? read more

I need to dedicate a whole paragraph to the tastiness of the gumbo. I've had gumbo before but nothing as good as the gumbo here. My friend and I ordered the gumbo, some brussels sprouts and the meat balls. In hindsight, we should have just ordered 4 bowls of gumbo and eaten that because the gumbo was so delicious, we only ordered 2 more bowls and I think we both would have appreciated a fourth bowl :-) It's a great restaurant with live music. Typically at restaurants like this, it is common to have a ton of people crowded at the bar, blocking the view of guests who are seated eating. It wasn't the case here. The hostess did an amazing job so we and other diners were able to seat, eat, drink and enjoy watching the musical performance. I highly recommend dining here.
