We first had the chance to try their bread and sandwiches ( which were incredible), such as Le Romano and the fougasse! However, what truly made the night memorable, was when the owner of the shop came out during closing time and offered all the costumers a free loaf of bread! If that doesn't speak to Christmas spirit and how much they value their costumers, I don't know what does! This kind gesture absolutely made our night and was much appreciated. Friends brought a hazelnut chocolate mousse cake from this bakery. It is THE BEST cake I have eaten in my life. It tastes like the hazelnuts and other ingredients have been ground into a nano-cream, so smooth is the texture, so rich is the taste. And it is also beautiful (and fun) inside, when cut, with crunchy things tucked in the very soft and spongy base. Wrapped in a flavor-punch caramel coating. Absolutely amazing. I'm from NJ staying in Truro for two weeks. Was heartbroken when PB Boulangerie in Wellfleet announced its closure just before the trip. It was always our must-stop any time we went to the Outer Cape. A friend recommended checking out Maison Villatte in Falmouth. During the first week I made the hour and a half trek down. Sooooo glad I did! Loved the shop. Great staff. And the food - sadly Yelp doesn't allow enough stars. I'm a croissant addict. Those bigger-than-your-fist clouds of butter are amazing. And the breads. Our old PB staples were the cheese bread and the olive bread. MV's are out of this world. (I even think better than PB.) Today I made the trip again, loading up on several loaves of the favorites and a big batch of croissants, as well as other goodies. Most of the breads/croissants have gone to the freezer to take home and enjoy over time. I leave for home in a couple days. Hey, I don't know what the plans are regarding PB in Wellfleet. Came here for pastries and sandwiches on July 4th weekend and they were excellent! The croissant and pain au chocolate were light and buttery, the ham and cheese baguette was delicious! Stopped in here quick on a little day trip to Falmouth.. They have a ton of options and boy, the Pistachio Almond Tarte is not one to miss. It's beautiful, and it's got such a nice flavor. It's not overly sweet, the pistachio flavor is able to shine through and it goes well with the slight sweetness and acidity of the apricots. The pasty itself is buttery, crisp, and very tasty. We also grabbed a chocolate chip cookie which was frankly more pretty than how it tasted. It was no doubt a solid cookie but it was more or less a plain ol' chocolate chip cookie. It did have a nice texture though. Crisp edges and the semi-sweet chocolate chunks irregularly sided and spread through the cookie are exactly how I like them. Plan on a line when you come in here, it moves quick as there are lots of folks behind the counter ready to help. It's currently November, so not sure if they adjust things for the winter but there isn't any seating inside. Just a long line that snakes around the store. There are some benches towards the library across the street though, plenty of places to grab a seat and enjoy your pastry and coffee. read more

Le Breton was the best sandwich I ever had in my life no joke I'll ask for that sandwich to be my last meal on earth before I die. Sun-dried tomatoes, Chicken, Mayo and mustard and spinach, it doesn't taste "spinachy" though, the spinach just adds a good amount of moisture and flavor. The mustard was like ADVANCED mustard, better than any I've ever had. Best bread ever, chewy inside, crisp, crusty outside, sour, amazing. Croissants and pastries are all amazing it doesn't matter what you get you can't choose wrong. Texture, flavor, presentation. Make sure to ask to have things like quiches heated up if you're dining there, the sandwiches really don't need to be warmed up because the bread is just so fresh. Lavender Latte was good but in my opinion I would add another shot of espresso to tone down the sweetness/amount of milk but that's just preference, no shade. Shocked to cross the street from the ferry/buses and find a Boulangerie! It was like being in France. I chose the cafe eclair which had perfect choux pastry paired with coffee-flavored cream and glaze. I thought the sign said that the glaze was chocolate and being a mocha lover, I would prefer that. We drowned in fine chocolate at Madison Villate. In a good way! The line was long but moved quickly enough. Standing in line gives you enough time to look through their display case and make decisions so that when you're up, you can order what you want quickly. We got three chocolatey goodies - the mousse with raspberry, the tart, and duo. All three were tasty! The chocolate was rich and indulgent. Each one felt like it was better than the previous. The tart was my favorite. Keep in mind that some of these (like the mousse) melt over time, so don't leave them out for too long. We also wanted coffee and paid for it. But it turned out that they would have to brew a fresh pot which takes some time. The lady who was serving us offered us a refund since we were in a hurry. I have removed 2 stars since my last review, mostly because, more often than not, going to this bakery is an unpleasant experience. Yesterday, before I could draw breath, the man behind me loudly complained to the server I didn't know what I wanted. (There was a sweet woman who had been behind me, but he somehow managed to get in front of her.) I let him go ahead of me, because I didn't want to hear him complaining about me throughout my entire order, plus, I didn't want him physically behind me, unseen, in case his aggressive verbal behavior turned physical. Verbally maligning another patron is antisocial and shows poor anger management. When another server waited on me, she kept asking "is that all?" after each requested item. There was no service with a smile, but impatience and disrespect. The obnoxious man labeling me as "not knowing what to order" set the tone, and the server treated me accordingly. I quickly finished my order, while the petulant man had yet to finish his, but was still floundering his way through the turn I relinquished to him. I don't think I am going to return here for a long time, not only because rudeness is rewarded, so rudeness prevails here, but because the baked goods turned out to be not as toothsome as they used to be. The plain croissants weren't as buttery as before. The almond croissant didn't have the almond paste baked into it, but seemed to be a plain croissant cut in two and the almond paste was spread after the croissant was baked. The raspberry croissant was soggy and tasted bitter. They should have sprinkled powdered sugar on top. The pain au raison was dry. Usually, there is almond cream inside of the pain au raison, but there wasn't any to speak of. The Whole Foods pain au raisin is better. All in all, to wait in a long line with more than its fair share of entitled people who cut in line, loudly rebuke patrons as soon as they are waited on in order to jump ahead of them, and use every trick in the book to get ahead in line, and then be treated as an annoyance, not a valued customer, for pastries that are no longer top notch, is not worth the aggravation, calories, or time. read more

All employees look completely harried none of which are helping customers. Need a rope or a sign to organize the crowd. Absolutely no flow of traffic. OMG! Amazing! We're visiting cape cod for a weekend during the off season and found this place; we're so happy we did! We've been to French bakeries before and usually there's one or two things that are meh. However, everything we had here was amazing! The ambience almost feels like they're taking you to France, with the French background music, the beautiful display, and cute eating area. We ordered a sampler of pastries and a baguette, everything was delicious. We loved it so much, we went back and bought a bunch of pastries and bread to take home with us. The service was also friendly, patient, and fast; especially since we had a hard time choosing. It's best to get there before 8am; lines start to grow as the morning goes on. We got there early enough that there was a short line. However, while we ate there, within 10 minutes there was a long line and it looked like it was growing as we left. However, the line was moving. It was amazing to see how many customers they had even in the off season! I highly recommend this place if you love French pastries. We plan to return when we're back again! read more

We did a carb/biking day in Falmouth - so after a massive lunch of lobster rolls, I insisted we check out Maison Villatte based on a glowing recommendation. It was the perfect way to top off the day. If I were to come back next time, I'd try the bread loaves, which looked stellar. Here's what we got: 1. The blueberry croissant. A+. The pastry edges were nicely golden and flaky but the center part with cream and blueberries - we were eating this in our car and I made absolutely sure I didn't drop a single crumb. 2. Oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip cookies. Nine times out of ten, I'll go for the CCC over anything with raisins in it but actually, I preferred MV's oatmeal over the chocolate. The oatmeal cookie was beautifully fragrant with nutmeg and allspice and cinnamon, reminding me of the first hints of autumn. The CCC was too heavy on the butter (blotting through the bag after only a few minutes) and a little too rich for my taste. Whereas I could have eaten the oatmeal cookie in one go. My only complaint is the line to order right when you come in gets chaotic - you really have to depend on one of the staff making direct eye contact with you, otherwise we felt slightly ignored as the line surged around and behind us. We went in the late afternoon when it was still plenty busy, so weekend mornings must be absolute pandemonium. Prices were cheaper than expected! They have some seating inside but if it's beautiful out, there's the public library park with benches right across the street (as well as a nearby parking lot). read more

There is a reason why there are almost always lines even during the week, and a reason why I wouldn't mind if this "Maison" was named after me instead! All vanity aside, the pictures here can do all the food talking. The lavender and the honey flavors did not come out on my drink and they even had lavender flakes on it. The rest and the main desserts and their quality blew me out of the water though. I am not sure how the macaroons are, but Philadelphia's tiny French neighborhood could only be so lucky to have this place there. Also, things that would be nice is an available bathroom like another reviewer said, and a sit down area too. I don't think there is a place to expand from where they are currently. read more

Sometimes I visit a food establishment that makes me want to lower all of my other ratings by a star. Maison Villatte is one of those places. I'm a sucker for meat and cheese combined with excellent bread/pastries, and Maison Villatte has so many items that fit the bill and blow everything else I've had in the past out of the water. They have excellent pastries with excellent flavors. Falmouth has become a top road trip destination for me because of Maison Villatte alone. My favorite item that I had was the ham and cheese croissant -- it's huge with infinite buttery flaky layers, crispy cheese on the outside, and delicious ham and cheese inside. We were lucky to get a hot one, and finished it immediately. I heavily considered buying another one when we stopped by the Woods Hole location a couple of hours later (despite having multiple other meat+cheese items to finish). The Parisien baguette sandwich (ham, cheese, butter) was also excellent, and I really enjoyed the bacon and cheese fougasse as well (though the bacon we got had much more fat than meat). We also got the focaccia sandwich with prosciutto and tomato sauce, and the focaccia had very nice air bubbles. We also tried the pain au chocolat, which was unsurprisingly delicious, and the chocolate raspberry genoise, which was perfectly smooth and decadent. I have heard that their coffee is not the best. I tried a bit of the strawberry chocolate mocha, and while the coffee flavor is mostly masked by the sweet flavors, it is not the best I've had. I'm literally planning my next trip to Maison Villatte, and will be craving its delicious savory and sweet options for a while! read more

Vacationing in Cape Cod and it's about time to head home, but before we do, we absolutely HAD to stop by this gorgeous French bakery right on Main Street since they close earlier in the day. You can smell the fresh baked goods all the way down the street and once you're inside you're IMMERSED in the beauty of all of the hand-crafted goodies that are all made one by one! I LOVED this. Family-owned, created by hand and all baked with love. You don't get that a lot anymore. The decor was simple, straightforward and not too drastic. It really felt like I was back in Bordeaux hoping to find a fresh baguette to go with my wine! Service: Everything is counter-service here so you go up to the counter right near the front door to order. You can ask 1,000,000 questions and they'll keep their patience with you because honestly, there's just SO MUCH STUFF here to gawk at and drool over. Lol. You'll seriously want one or even 2 of everything. Food: During my visit I tried what I believe was a chocolate-filled eclair, a fruit tart and some sort if flatbread-cheesy-pretzel deliciousness.
