Garbanzo is a very small place on the edge of Clayton that always delivers tasty & healthy Mediterranean foods at a reasonable price point. The kind of place you drop by to grab a bit between errands or to meet up with a close friend. I like the gyros and the salads. They have recently scaled back on sized which I appreciate more than raising prices. And they still put in plenty of the yummy things just seem to have cut back most of the overage of romaine. Nice and clean, organized, friendly staff, and convenient parking (had its own lot as well as street parking). I ordered the falafel plate which was very filling for the price, especially since I was allowed go select a multitude of add-ons. I also bought a shareable French fry - delish! Seasoned just right, hot and fresh. As for their drink options, organic soda beverages, teas, and lemonades. The Kola Cola was really good! The person who took my order seemed really confused by everything I was saying - I asked for a bowl with rice and she put the lettuce in first. Then she added half a scoop of rice on top. I decided to just continue with the order and I asked for garbanzo beans and she put olives because the garbanzo beans weren't in the correct place. I wanted to start over, but another employee told her not to. I didn't want to waste, so I finished my order and checked out. The bowl was definitely not worth the cost, especially because it wasn't really what I asked for. I thought maybe it was just my ordering that was confusing, but I also asked for a side of fries and the person checking me out asked her to make another order. I think I asked for 3 sauces because we love to try new things. Let me tell you, there was so much in that bowl that I had that bowl for lunch, dinner and not gonna lie, a little bit for breakfast. Fries |I love potatoes in all of its forms. Theirs is cut like a thicker shoestring. (Think jack n the box circa early 2000s) It's a seasoned fry but not drenched in seasoning like a traditional seasoned fry. It's got more mush than crunch which is totally fine by me. There was crunch though! I ordered to go, so the moisture probably softened it up in the plastic to go bag. Baklava | I only wish it was a bigger slice. That is the only complaint! So much goodness packed into this small crunchy, honey, nut, dessert pastry. It was almost $4 for something that was smaller than my palm. Très sad. I did order for pickup. The parking lot was PACKED so I had to walk a few blocks just for pick up but when I went in there were only a few tables open and 2 parties in line. Luckily there is shelving to pick up to-go orders so I was in and out. WOW!!!! Found the midwestern edition of Cava. FINALLY. You walk in and its a chipotle-style mediterranean grill. Your offered some falafel and choose between greens, grains, or pita or some combination of any. Pick your carb : rice, beans, etc., protein (chicken, lamb, etc.) and toppings (feta, tzatiki, etc.) and voila you have your creation. Absolutely excellent tasting, good prices, and quick line. Decent amount of seating inside, not a whole lot of parking. I am literally thrilled I found this joint- been having Cava withdrawals every since I moved to STL from NYC and this fills that void! You get to fill your pita with all the Mediterranean toppings you could think of. I packed mine to the brink and had to eat it with a fork, no regrets. The service was great and they were really kind when I requested a side of each of their sauces to try. The beverages are from an organic company and their are lots of options. I mixed the lemonade and black tea for an Arnold Palmer. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that they were out of the chicken kabobs and that's what I was craving.
