For us, it didn't live up to the overall 4.5-star rating. We had lunch here by accident since Mariachi's II was closed unfortunately. My chicken shawarma was over cooked, making it too dry and crispy. The yogurt sauce tasted more like plain sour cream unlike the more addictive, garlicky one at The Vine (on South Grand). The salad was fresh, but the entire entree severely lacked flavor; even the pickle didn't taste as good. My husband ordered the falafel sandwich with fries. He said the sandwich or wrap was good, but the fries were thoroughly forgettable. I sampled a fry, and I must agree with him. I wouldn't have wanted to eat beyond one fry and waste my daily calories on them, even though we both love fries. Typically, the Vine is my go-to for chicken shawarma, which is served with warm pita, rice, and salad or lentil soup, which is some of the best that I've ever tasted. Unfortunately, the Vine has not had a full-service dining area in the last few years, so I have not returned, but their food is levels above what we had for lunch here. Also, there doesn't seem to be a soda machine or water dispenser as we were given two bottled waters, and all other beverages such as soda were in a case. It appeared that they had a smoothie machine, though. The server was a young girl, and she was not friendly at all. She seemed apathetic, and she put more effort in her application of false eyelashes than in serving us. Needless to say, we won't be back. read more

After visiting Majeed for the second time (a year or so later), I have to lower the star on my rating. My husband and I both ordered the Chicken Shawarma, and we ordered the Falafel and Baba Ganoush (the Baba Ganoush appetizer was the only new item we ordered this visit). While the Shawarma was good, it lacked flavor compared to what I remember from the first visit. I think this was due to the garlic sauce being on the side and not inside the sandwich. From what I remember during that first visit, the sauce was a part of the Shawarma and mixed with the meat. With the sauce on the side, the chicken meat was also dry. The Falafel was very flavorful, but it was a little too salty and not the best I have had since last visit. The Hummus was in the center of the Falafel and was okay. The best item of the meal was the Baba Ganoush! It had great texture and was delicious! I would visit again, because it is good, but check out some other dishes! read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. I had it delivered via Grubhub and it was the best Mediterranean food I've ever had. I've spent a lot of time on the region and contend that it's some of the best food on earth in general. But this restaurant takes the cake for the best local med food. My gf had the chicken Schwarma and I had the Lamb kabobs. They were great portions, perfectly cooked, AND even packaged with pride and care. It was a production, even outside the restaurant in paper containers. Any restaurant that can do that is A+ in my book. I'll definitely be ordering from them again in the future. read more

This is my 2nd time ordering from here on Uber Eats and 3rd time eating at this spot! I particularly loved the lentil soup both times, it was creamy with the perfect consistency and flavor. However, this time the soup is literally like water. You can tell so much water was added because it lacks flavor, as in being watered down and it's extremely thin and runny! I really thought this was going to be my go to spot as I do my best to support local restaurants and order from Uber Eats often. I did attempt to call the restaurant several times. However each time I got a recording stating they are unable to connect my call due to number not being on the account or caller ID being blocked. I'm not sure what's going on because I called before my order was delivered. My first ordered was canceled because they were out of an item. I called to see what the item was which it was the Baklava, and told them I would re-order. Still attempting to support the local business. It is not fair to deliver unsatisfactory food especially in the current climate our world is in. People support businesses and they treat the customers terrible by not delivering consistent quality food on their part. If you must, increase your prices but watering down food to cut COST is NOT IT! Unfortunately I had many great things to say about this spot and even told family and friends. Total hole in the wall Syrian place owned by Syrian refugees in Bevo Mill. Both take out and sit down service. Some seats are at tables and other are in booths with very comfortable cushions. I went with my friend on a Tuesday night and no one else was there. We weren't sure if we were supposed to sit at a table or order at the counter until an older man sleeping near the counter woke up and shouted at a man in the kitchen to have us seated. We split meat stuffed grape leaves and hummus, and I ordered the Shish Kefta chicken dish. The grape leaves and hummus were amazing. There were a couple of different chicken dishes on the menu, but their descriptions were all pretty much the same so I didn't know which one to order. The Shish Kefta came with rice, pita made into a sort of middle eastern quesadilla (with spices, peppers, onions, and some type of dressing), salad, and an amazing garlic mayo type sauce. I didn't like the Shish Kefta that much. It was sort of like chicken sausage. The rice and pita were pretty good, but I was not a fan of the salad. The mayo was a weird consistency different than anything I've ever had before, but tasted great as well. The server/chef came to check on us once, and refilled our waters, but that was it. We went up to the counter to pay. At the counter we also each got some baklava. It was amazing! They also have a weird middle eastern cheese dessert called Kanafa that my mom loves. 5 stars for food, but 2 stars for environment. The place is sort of falling apart. read more

Ordered food via Yelp, got a confirmation email, went to pick up the food and a literal child (maybe 10-12 years old) was working at their desk. I asked about my order and he asked what app I used and I told him. He asked my name and I told him that too; then he said, "Are you sure?" Um, yeah, I'm pretty familiar with what my name is. He showed me someone else's order and asked if it was mine, and I said no. He said they never got my order and I left. I got home and called Yelp/Grubhub, and they called the restaurant, where staff claimed they did get my order and could I go pick it up right now? Nope, got a refund. Food is outstanding, fresh, delicious, and very tasty. Portions are generous and fairly priced. We a have a lot of Middle Eastern restaurants in Chicago but this is so far the best we've had. The perfect amount of seasoning not to overwhelm the palate but complementing it very well with the sides adds a nice balance of freshness, texture and flavor. I definitely do not recommend this place for several reasons. Look for another Mediterranean or arab spot. We came here with a family and noticed some patrons sitting every other table but there wasn't any real enforcement. Employees not wearing masks nor gloves, no sanitizer, bathroom doors wide open-more than two using it with the door open (checking mirror and washing hands/combing hair). Interior dingy. Service dismal. There was a child and a young girl who were either taking a lot of catering orders or Manning their store side at the same time of working the restaurant. Unfortunately, this meant no attention to the restaurant patrons. We ended up waiting on getting our orders wrong, delayed and most of us served at their closing time. I think it was an hour and a half wait. I ordered the chicken kabobs with fries and the kabobs were very dry and hard. Sister ordered hummus as an appetizer and it was unflavored. read more

Best fattoush (Arabic bread salad) in the St. Louis metroplex!

I'm a big fan of this place, and I am an aficionado of Mediterranean restaurants! This is one of my new favorites. I have been here twice, once with a friend and once with my International Supper Club. This is a smaller place that I think is probably family run, and so the service isn't at the level of some other places, but I found it pretty friendly and efficient both times with a couple hiccups. The food is really good though! The fatayer (cheese or meat pie) is very flavorful, even the dough, which is rare! It's served on a salad of greens that are dressed with something light and delicious. I ordered a falafel sandwich both times, and made some specifications on what was in it, as I don't like onion or pickles. They brought it to me perfectly. I also like the sauce that came with it, as well as the fries! The tea they have is also very good and reminds me of my favorite Turkish tea from college days. The only thing I'd change is that I love my tea with sugar cubes! Overall, I'd definitely recommend a visit and I will be back! read more

I get excited when I find little hole in the wall international restaurants, so when I saw Kelly B's review about Majeed being open by a Syrian refugee family, I came immediately. The food was excellent. I started with an order of hummus for $4.49. It was a huge plate big enough for two of us to share and extra to take home. The hummus was a plate of creamy goodness doused with olive oil and served with a basket of warm pita. For my main course, I ordered the chicken shawarma for $9.99. It came in a huge mound, seasoned rice with raisins, peas and almonds was piled high and topped by nicely flavored chicken that had been shaved right of the spit. While the chicken was just slightly on the dry side, it was still very good. It was served with a nice salad mixed with tomatoes and cucumbers and also a few pieces of pita. The portion was so bit that I had plenty to take home for another meal. I will say that the service was a bit of a struggle. Of course this is common with a new restaurant and I'm happy to overlook it. The place was quite busy when I visited and the one server seemed to be a little overwhelmed. It took a while to get a menu. But once we ordered, the food came out quickly. I suspect that they will improve their service with experience. I can't wait to return! read more

Don't let the unassuming, hole-in-the-wall exterior fool you, this place is great! My go-to order is beef shawarma, hummus and cucumber yogurt salad (because I can never pick just appetizer). 3.5 stars Majeed was this month's ISC pick. The restaurant had plenty of room to accommodate our group. The service was warm and friendly. Overall they did a decent job taking care of our group considering another large group came in shortly after we did. The hummus appetizer was very smooth and tasty and I was able to bring almost half of it home to enjoy later. I also tasted the baba ganoush. While it isn't my go to appetizer, it was also really good. I ordered the chicken shawarma platter with rice and salad for my meal. The chicken was flavorful and I really enjoyed the fresh and lightly dressed salad. The platter was good but, overall, somewhat bland. I realized I should order the chicken shawarma sandwich in the future as I prefer the added flavors that the sauce and pickles provide. However, the meal was so large it could possibly feed a small family and I was able to bring quite a bit of it home. Surprisingly, my favorite part of the meal was the pita that accompanied my entree. It was folded, grilled, and encased a delicious spice spread with grilled onions. I ended up stuffing it with my chicken and rice. Being a lover of baklava, I knew I would be ordering dessert. Unfortunately, dessert was my least favorite part of the meal. So I swung by Majeed Mediterranean. Yelp told me this was a hot new place so I'm thinking what the hell it's right by my house & plus I was really in the mood for some laaaaamb lol. Right at the corner of Gravois & Itaska, we got some traditional Syrian cuisine. It's inviting inside and kinda cozy:) off the bat, everything on the menu is very reasonably priced from the hummus to the whole roasted chicken (yeah bro... they have whole roasted chicken:). So I decide on the roasted leg of lamb & side of hummus to-go, wait time about 10 mins not bad for me just walking in. also, the guy at the counter wasn't just nice he was kind which was refreshing in itself. I asked for extra Syrian bread and he gave it to me no charge. The food was delicious when I picked the lamb bone up the meat fell right off mmmm, however, the rice was not really biryani as stated on the menu it was good but just white rice. There was a surprise though inside a specialty bread with like a tomato paste on top very good. Also coupled with the regular Syrian bread the hummus was excellent. read more

We got delivery a couple of weeks ago and the food was on point. The hummus was creamy and delicious. The kibbeh (fried beef and barley meatball) was crispy and flavorful. The rice was delicately spiced and fluffy. The lamb and kofta and chicken were nicely spiced, tender, and juicy. Heck even the FRENCH FRIES were amazing. And to top it all off, the food was still piping hot when it showed up on my doorstep. I can't recommend it highly enough. We'll be going in person once the pandemic is over. read more

We came here for dinner one night because I wanted mediterranean food. It's a bit of a trek but definitely worth it. The fries are standard but yummy. Get the mayo. It is thick and garlicky and MAGICAL. We also ordered entrees that were delicious. I don't remember much about them other than i really enjoyed them. What stood out to me, though, were the grape leaves. These are probably my favorite grape leaves. They were served to us warm. Each bite was flavorful with perfect texture. DELICIOUS. The other thing that stood out to me was the dessert. We got some of the white-cheese-based-rolled-up things. It was served with something akin to simple syrup. I hoped for rose flavor in the syrup and was a little sad it didn't have any. Then i dipped the dessert into the syrup and took a bite. THE ROSE FLAVOR WAS IN THE WHITE PART AND IT WAS GLORIOUS.
