I originally went to Green Cleaners to pick up 3 dresses I had dropped off for dry cleaning. I was told they'd be ready the following Thursday. When I came in that Thursday, the man at the front couldn't find my dresses and told me they weren't there. I genuinely panicked thinking maybe they had accidentally been given to someone else. After looking around again, he came back and told me they would be ready the next day. I wasn't able to make it the next day, so I came back about a week later around 1:43 PM, only to find the store locked with a handwritten note taped inside saying "lunch break, back before 1:00." A lunch break is understandable, but at that point it was well past the time written on the sign. It felt careless and unprofessional, especially after already dealing with issues trying to get my dresses. Another week later, after receiving a reminder call, I returned again. This time the place looked completely chaotic, with clothing racks blocking the door from the inside and flyers taped up saying they had moved locations a week earlier to "Major Cleaners". However, when they called me to pick up my dresses, nobody mentioned the new address. I drove to the Major Cleaners, which thankfully was only a few minutes away, but once again there was another handwritten sign saying they were closed for Memorial Day. I had specifically checked online beforehand to make sure both locations were marked as open because of the holiday. The constant lack of communication, inaccurate information, and overall disorganization from both locations made this such a frustrating experience. I understand small businesses can have issues sometimes, but this felt extremely irresponsible and stressful for a customer simply trying to pick up their belongings. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if other customers have dealt with similar problems here. *DON'T TAKE YOUR GARMENT HERE. STAINED AND BOTTOM HEM UNEVEN* You would think fixing a hem and taking something in are standard things any alterations place could do with no problem, but this place couldn't even do that. I brought my bridesmaid dress in well ahead of time so that it could be done before I fly out for a wedding. I needed the sides taken in and the length shortened. The lady agreed to shorten it but insisted I didn't need to take it in because it had a tie belt which she said I could just tie super tight so it could fit, so I said fine. She did shorten it and finish it on time, but it was poorly done and the bottom was uneven, with one side longer than the other. However the thing that was the most upsetting and the reason for this review was the TWO HUGE STAINS they left on the dress. I ended up having to take it somewhere else where I had to pay for a rush fee since my flight was soon. At the new place, they fixed the hem AND they weren't too lazy to take in the sides. They even gave me a discount because they felt sorry for the shit I had to go through at Major Cleaners. Cherry on top- the only way they could make up for it was by offering a pathetic $13 credit toward their cleaning service, where I could bring anything in and get $13 off. WHY would I bring anything in again? So they could mess up something else of mine? Like don't they get it? At that point there is NO LONGER TRUST for the customer to have anything done there again. I used to live in Belmont and found this place on a whim as I had to get some jeans altered (I have a denim "habit"). The sweet owner does an amazing job on original hem and charges only $10 bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That compared to SF where the lowest I've seen is $15. Anyway, because of this habit, she must've hemmed at least 20 pairs of jeans for me. I've recommended her to all my friends in the area. I've also had her take in the waist of my jeans & it looks fantastic (tough job). Of course I've gone for the dry clean/wash & press - all very good. Super accomodating and incredibly service-orientated, I wish I could've taken them with me to SF. It's definitely worth the drive as this place is located off of 101. read more

**UPDATE 6/3/07 - Like the others mentioned, new Korean owners have replaced the old Vietnamese owners and have now jacked up prices on virtually all services. I dropped off two pairs of designer jeans and asked them to be hemmed to 31". She printed off a fancy receipt off a computer (the old owners used to handwrite their receipts) and as I walked out the door, I noticed it said 29" inseam. I went back and asked, "Why does this say 29?" She said, "Oh, you don't want 29?" This is AFTER I clearly said 31 and she repeated 31. I would have been so pissed if I returned and both jeans were ruined for being too short! So everyone DOUBLE CHECK your receipts before you leave if you're getting hemming work! I won't be able to vouch for the workmanship until later on this week when I pick it up, but I will flip if they are still too short!** UPDATE 2/1/08 - While the jeans came back fine, I stopped going to these cleaners for my tailoring needs and started going to JJ's Alterations (who I adore!). My husband still uses Major Cleaners for his dry cleaning and today they lost 4 of his shirts. Apparently the lady in front of him had two pairs of pants she had left to be hemmed and she was claiming that they had ruined them with cleaning solution or something. Not sure if the female customer's account is factual, but I am pretty happy with my choice not to return. Knocking off a star. I'm with everyone else - I come here exclusively for my jean hemming. $10 original hem, $5.95 without...you can't complain about the prices! She's done about five pairs of jeans for me and they come out great each time. It takes about four days to do, but if you have the patience, you can't get a better tailor for the price! read more

I've been taking my premium denim here for well over 2 years now. The work has been 3.5 - 4 star, and I have not had much to complain about... until the last 2 times I've been here. Each time I bring anything in, I try the items on, and let the owner pin the items to ensure that the length meets my satisfaction. Last month, I brought in a pair of jeans and followed the same routine. I picked up the jeans the following week, didn't bother to look at the length since had not had any previous issues... it was when i was ready to put them away that I realized they were at least 2 inches too long. I called them the next day, and no apology... i was just asked to bring them in. She fixed them in the 5 day normal timeframe that she gets all others done... i figured since it was her mistake that she would get it done quicker, but apparently no. Earlier this month, I brought 3 dresses in. 2 to get shortened, and 1 to get fixed because the bottom tore. The 2 to get shortened, I tried on shoes and everything, to ensure the correct length. I picked them up and found out later that night, 1 of the 2 that i had tried on, was again TWO INCHES TOO LONG!!!! Even worse, I was leaving for LA the next day to attend a wedding, and I was to wear that dress. My mother-in-law had to temporarily fix the hem, in order for me to wear the dress. I called the woman the next day and again, no apology... she just said bring it in. I brought it in the following week when i was back from LA and i had asked if someone new was hemming the items. she said no... then she said I probably used shoes that were too short... implying that it was MY FAULT!!!! I told her the shoes I used were the exact same height as the pair I wore when she pinned the dress up. she just gave me a weird look like I was lying. what happened to the customer is always right?! ugh. never, ever, EVER going back to her again! read more

Update Oct. 2007 Yeah, just like everyone else, I was REALLY REALLY disappointed to find out that the nice Vietnamese couple no longer own this business. I tried to ask the new owner where they went, but she just kept avoiding my question. So I kept asking in different ways. FINALLY she said that the woman had "gone to school." I find it hard to believe. So who knows what the story is. Maybe they just couldn't make a go of it. Anyway, I appreciate my fellow Yelpers warning about doublechecking the hemming length. If I do get pants hemmed here again, I will be very careful. I liked the previous owners. They were very sweet and of course the prices were incredible. Sniff....I'm dropping my rating by one star... _____________ I want to let you in on my little tailoring secret. My arms are short. And my legs aren't so long, either. I'm borderline "petite." Every time I buy jeans or a jacket, I have to roll up the sleeves or take up the hem. It always costs a small fortune, unless I wanted to lug out my ancient sewing machine and risk doing it myself. Well, if you think that "regular" tailors are too expensive, head on over to Major Cleaners in Belmont on El Camino (in the shopping center that also contains Mountain Mikes Pizza, Whispers Crepe Cafe, and Little Gym). The couple that own the dry cleaning store are very nice Vietnamese immigrants who do a hell of a tailoring job for great prices. They don't speak English very well, but it really isn't a big problem. If you're tired of paying $20 to get your jeans shortened, this is the place for you. I can't remember offhand exactly what they charge, but it is a lot less than all the other tailors in the area. There is a little changing room at the front of the store where you can try on your clothing so that the lady can pin it for you. Most jobs take only a few days. They also do a nice job on dry cleaning. My arms may be too short to box with God, but thanks to Major Cleaners, at least now my sleeves are the right length! read more

This used to be my tailor/dry cleaner, until they changed owners. I loved the little Vietnamese lady who always knew how I loved my otherwise-still-fashionable, old and way-too-high waisted bottoms needed to be lowered, and of course, the great prices. At the new prices (yes, like all the other reviewers said, the new Korean owners raised prices), it is no longer the same. Big mistake coming here. These ladies must think white people are purdy stoopid. I dropped off a jacket for a rip repair. I specifically asked if it could fixed. "Oh no pobbem no pobbem!" So I show up to pick it up and the repair looks like a seagull took a giant shit on it. The jacket is green and the repair is white. Another lady proceeds to tell me that it actually looks good because young people like this style (the shit on the sleeve look). No joke. They actually tried to convince me that it looked cool. So I said, "I'm 36 not 15 and this jacket is going in the garbage." So she says, "why you say? My husband wear this style too and he your age." No joke -- I could not believe what I was hearing. Of course they charged me. And because I have too much dignity to waste my time haggling with these two jackasses, I paid and left. I cannot believe these dip-shits. They tried to convince me that what I thought was crap work was in fact a good repair job. But if it wasn't, then at least it was a cool look. Wow! read more

I love this place. I'm almost thankful my last cleaners, who I went to regularly for a long time, suddenly started sucking. This place does everything, the people are great, the prices are good, they do good work and they do the little things like replacing buttons when needed without me pointing it out and free of charge. They'll have it ready basically whenever I need it. I'm not usually in a rush but the few times I was they pushed it through and I didn't pay anymore than normal. I have never gotten anything altered here, so can't comment on that, but the drycleaning/laundry has also been quite good and affordable. I've also brought in an area rug and have gotten in cleaned within a week (I don't remember the price, but it was very reasonable). My experience with this was company was terrible and unforgettable. I am actually writing this 3 years after this incident occurred. I always said I would write something about it, but just never got around to it, but it always stuck in my mind. They washed one of my shirts that was supposed to be dry cleaned. As a result it faded as if it were sitting out in the sun for a week and it shrunk 2 sizes. When I pointed this out to them they suddenly forgot how to speak English and did not own up. I had used them for awhile until this incident. I thought they were nice to deal and it was convenient. When u this happened then I really found out how morally poor they are. Don't trust them---they'll damage one of your items and then pretend they don't know what language you're speaking. read more

They turned my white shirt pink. They then accused me of lying, insisting it was a pink shirt to begin with. Mistakes happen, but taking no responsibility and blaming the customer is not acceptable. I ah e been a loyal customer for 3 years and they can't even offer to refund the price of cleaning the shirt. Now I can't trust them anymore since obviously any error will be my fault.
