I had a window issue in my new home that I couldn't find anyone to help with. I contacted multiple contractors and different companies and it was clear my business was never important - I'd get ghosted for appointments, took months to get quotes, and more. I finally found Smart Shield and was contacted almost immediately after requesting a callback. The owner, Bryan, was so incredibly kind, thorough, and knowledgeable. He helped customize a plan for our home based on what would remedy our current situation and prevent future issues. The process to get started was easy (and very digital which earns extra bonus points in my book) and it was a few weeks until installation. The installation went great and I've never had an issue with the windows. It went so well, that we had Smart Shield come back and put in new doors for us, more window replacements, and replace our siding. While that was a bigger job, the process was just as wonderful. The team at Smart Shield is HIGHLY communicative. The installation crew are all lovely, respectful, and masters of their craft. They have impeccable clean up after as well! They are my first call whenever we need something done and will continue to be the only company I recommend. Smart Shield treats you like a friend and not a sales target and their work is top notch quality. Don't bother going to any other company - but be sure to tell them I sent you :)

About 4-6 weeks later, Blake contacted me and scheduled for installation. Robert and his team did an excellent job installing the windows. I had a total of 11 windows installed on the first floor of my property in Nov 2023. They completed the job in 1 and half days. It could have been done in one day but the sunset in November didn't allow. Some of the pictures of the completed job are shown below. I don't have the before pictures but trust me, there's a huge difference. I will have them come back to complete the second floor in the first quarter of 2024. Thank you!!

If you ever find yourself in the unfortunate position of needing to deal with your homeowners…read moreinsurance following a tree swiping the back of your house, let me give you some advice. Last March 2024, during an especially windy day a country club's tree came down and whacked the rear of my house, starting from the highest roof, ripping down wires and landed on my detached garage where it sat until PECO could make it safe. I initially gave the go ahead for my insurer, who I'll call SF, to send out a contractor to assess the damage. Well someone came out, slapped a tarp on the hole in the garage, but seemed dismissive of the house damage. And then I heard nothing for the longest time. So, getting concerned I called Impriano to get their opinion, as is my right, since I had a good experience with them 13 years ago with a new roof. Jack Impriano came out and did a very thorough inspection finding a lot more damage than SF's contractor did, including a split rafter in the garage roof. He looked at the plan for repair that the adjuster had drawn up finding it completely inadequate, so he drew up his own. He basically worked directly with the adjuster, all while updating me about what was going on. There were many problems such as the SF contractor sending the wrong information to SF that led them to believe the work was complete when nothing was repaired. The contractors invoice included pictures that wasn't even my property. Jack Impriano handled everything, everything is repaired/replaced, their crew came out in the most inhospitable weather and did an excellent job. You could tell how well done my 13 year old roof was when shingles were removed. It's amazing how nice our new roof and siding looks. It's peace of mind working with a company that takes pride in their work, and there's good reason they've been around for so long. I didn't realize they also handle windows which is on my to do list. I don't think I would trust anyone else. Thank you Jack and Ed and the rest of your hard working crew, including the office, you guys were great, can't thank you enough.

I'd been given several quotes from big box stores, handyman and manufacturer, and the price for the quality I wanted was out of my budget. I found Zen Windows on Angie's List. Mak was quick to respond and provided me options. I got the quality I wanted for a very fair price PLUS it was so easy! I didn't have to wait days/weeks for someone to come out to measure and "sell" me a door. The communication with Mak and the installer, John, was easy. The installer arrived on time and went out of his way to resolve some obstacles my house presented. Quality was important for me as this oversize door is opened/closed many times throughout the day (let the dogs out, let the dogs in: repeat). The screen is perfect for pets and is so minimalist I find myself checking to be sure it's closed. It was surprising to me that I wasn't asked for a deposit and refreshing to do business in this way. Many thanks to Mak and John.

Also had him check out another area of the house that we agreed could use about $10-15k in work. He said he would give me a quote for both in a couple days, but just heard back from him that both of my projects are too small for his group to do and no quotes were provided. We discussed the budget for both projects while onsite, so not sure why he couldn't be honest when we were face to face. Instead he wasted a good hour of my time, do not recommend him at all......

I met the owner Tom 9/1, did a brief walk through and then he showed me pictures/ videos of much more involved projects he had overseen for wealthy clients as well as a brief overview of how his company operates. I emailed him back 9/5, and wrote that my hard line budget was $70,000, $77,000 for contingencies, as he'd had mentioned its wise to add 10% to any budget. I also made it clear, in writing, that this was to include heating and cooling and showed him a pic of an upscale bathroom design and wrote specifically I didn't want flip style/ entry level features. He was confident this was possible, but to move forward he would need a $4000 deposit. I was OK with this but did call /email to follow up during which he assured me that once he had "soft numbers" if they were out of range he'd give me the option to cancel and receive approximately 1/2 back, on 9/13, he emailed confirmation of this. I sent the $4000 check @9/20 and he cashed it 10/3. He had an architect com by 10/12 to survey the project. I received drawings December 4th. Then a 40 minute zoom meeting with me Tom, and the architect on 12/12, where some minor changes were suggested and agreed to. I then received a revised drawing that was to be used to arrive at "soft numbers" on 1/11. There were a couple of thing missing/ wrong on this so I received a corrected version on 1/17, at this point I noticed there was nothing indicating an HVAC layout beyond removing and discarding of the radiator. Tom replied they were part of the "soft numbers" he was working on. I expected to see this laid out on the designs I was paying for/ where ductwork will go/ where radiator will be moved to etc, so let's call this the first "red flag". He asked for my designer info about a week later which I sent. The next communication I got from him was 3/11. A phone call. During which he informed me the "soft numbers" were $132,000, so with his contingency advice (add 10%) possibly $145,000+ And still no drawing showing HVAC I understand ballparks, but how it took 5 months to realize he was at minimum $62,000 off and practically double the ballpark escapes me to this day. So at this point, given I still never received a coherent HVAC plan, I wouldn't even call this half-way, and given how wildly inaccurate his ballpark was, as well as the slow pace of arriving at his soft numbers, by my estimation I was into him for considerably less. He blamed this huge discrepancy on "increased labor costs" While labor costs have exploded since the pandemic, they have not increased that dramatically from 9/23 to 3/24. I decided to move the project indoors/ using a portion of two adjacent rooms, and repairing the roof that was going to be torn down in the addition. I sent him revised drawings of where I wanted the new walls to go as well as fixtures and doors He said he was confident he could do both (bathroom and roof) for under 70k He also sent back a "revised drawing" that was had all the fixtures in the wrong place, as well as the walls and doors. The he sent back another drawing, relocating the fixtures, in a wrong, different place. These two drawings were about as opposite/ incorrect as possible in such a small space, and still no HVAC plan. I asked emailed him about why these drawings were so off, and more importantly that I hoped it was understood I did not expect to be billed for completely incorrect drawings/ have this take out of my 1/2 deposit remaining, as well as a written request as to exactly how much of that was left should I go another direction. He called me that Saturday assuring me not to worry, I wouldn't be billed for those and he "was not that guy". I was at this point very wary, but let it be known if he could make "hard numbers" work at 57k ( I wound up getting another contractor to replace the roof/ seamed/ excellent and @1.8k less than Tom's quote of 13k for shingle so 70k-13=$57k.) I was willing to consider continuing with him but it would have to hit all the marks, as this was project was far simpler in scale than a second story addition. I also wound up getting the closets done by another contractor while waiting, which Tom had estimated @ 5k, so we were theoretically down to 52k for the interior bathroom. He then started pushing me to "get the permits" which I was baffled by as we still did not have anything approaching a hard budget. He said he needed to get a plumber out (never showed). When asked about HVAC, he said he had not budgeted any and said that the bathroom could rely on "ambient heat and cooling". Ridiculous, and totally ignoring my clear must haves since the project began. In the end once I made it known I wanted to exit, Tom stopped replying and his employee Jon advised me to "read the contract" and that none of my deposit would be returned.
