[ READ FULL STORY!! ] Going in, I filled the form that I had dry, sensitive skin - especially around my neck area. I repeated it to both the instructor and the student before doing my hair. They did a strain test and did not show me the strain nor did they show me any hair color palettes to compare color to. I repeated that I had eczema and sensitive scalp and no pretreatment was placed on my scalp prior to the bleach. When the bleach started to burn, I got up and tried to call out for the hair stylist, but she had already left to another room and didn't come back until closer to the time for the bleach was up. After she rinsed the bleach off, she tried to color my hair by placing the product straight to my scalp and it burned excessively. The student then shampooed and dried my hair - but turned my chair to the side so I couldn't see the full damage. I asked if there was anything that could be done to fix the color, but she said the ammonia was too high and she couldn't color nor tone anything. I was left with this horrible, brassy color. I didn't realize until I got into the car... But the hairs on my neck were completely BURNED OFF. The entire back of my neck was hairless and burned off from the bleach and lack of attention by the student and teacher. The teacher was busy with another customer and did not instruct the student throughout the process, nor checked on me. The original price guesstimate was $100 for bleach/color hair that was short/shoulder length. After no attempts was made to fix the hair, they adjusted the price to $60. I was really disappointed about the whole process, considering the Google and Yelp reviews. They have incentives written in the store for free hair cuts or hair treatment for reviews on both platforms, so don't be deceived. I'd also like to say I knew I wouldn't be able to go from virgin black hair to platinum blonde in one session. It takes a lot for the hair to lift and I understand that it'll take time for the hair to shift to the opposite color. Knowing this, I was still frustrated there was no alternative products nor attempts to resolve my concerns. My main issue is the burned skin and lack of instructor oversight on the whole process. So learn from my mistakes, pay the cost for a real professional to do your hair or you'll spend another $120, just to fix someone else's mistakes. read more

I went to get a haircut, root touch up and highlights and I I was very impressed with the service and excellent stylist. The salon was clean, well lit and made you feel comfortable when you first walk in. The individual seats are well spaced apart and the stylist wore her mask. I showed my stylist a picture of what I hope to get and they (her instructor, stylist, and her helper) went right to work! Please note coloring is a long process and requires a lot of patient. I was there for nearly 3.5hrs. My stylist was sweet and was very thorough and didn't cut corners, she made sure every gray was covered and each highlight was the correct size I requested. Honestly, I feel they were better than most of the salons I've been to. The chemical they used didn't stink and it lifted the dark hair into the color I wanted. I am very pleased with the results! I went to Mak Beauty Institute on a whim. I saw a sign for coloring and decided to try it out. This was my first time coming to a beauty school for salon services. For a walk-in, I got seated within 5 mins. Simona was the person who colored my hair, she did a great job and even gave me a scalp massage, which felt so good!! I wanted to also get my hair cut but I was in a rush. This place is sooo affordable and the outcome is the same as a experienced salon!! I will be coming back to this beauty school again!! I have been going to Mak Beauty Institute in Duluth for 1 1/2 years. My neighbor told me about this place that she has gone to and LIKED. Since its a school, I was not sure how I would Like it. I have worked with 3 students (all have graduated now). I liked all 3. All 3 did a good job of coloring and trimming my hair. The instructor did not stand there and watch the whole time the students were working on my hair. I like that. She did come over towards the end and talked to me about "My Hair". I first went to take my daughters for an hair cut and bangs trimmed. For students to cut hair, they did a grew job! I can even take them back for free bang trims. I decided to go back to get my hair cut. Natalie was my stylist. She was very attentive and listened to what I wanted. I'm happy with the service. I was drawn to this location based on the Yelp reviews but unfortunately I didn't have that great experience as these many reviewers did. I got there little after they opened thinking they were going to be packed but when I walked in, it was a very uncomfortable feeling, no customers were there and everyone just stared at me. I was greeted by a terrific lady and I felt better enough to try this place out. The student who gave me my haircut must have been a new student because was my haircut ended up being crooked. She and her instructor tried fixing it but the end result was still uneven haircut. You may ask why not 1 star? I gave 3 stars because I know these are students and they use customer like me to practice and I can truly say that she did her best to give me that perfect hair cut. read more

I went in with a plan with my stylist. The owner didn't like the plan so she told the stylist to do something else. I came in with nearly white hair, wanted it white root to ends, & left with platinum blonde (with roots) that's now yellow/brassy. A partial highlight doesn't have the same effect as a full lightening process & toner. (It does conveniently cost more though.) The day after coming into the salon I contacted my stylist to tell her I wasn't happy. She said she'd speak to a manager. I never heard back & when I finally called the salon directly instead of trying to work it out with the stylist, they said it had been over a week & they wouldn't fix it for free. So I was willing to pay despite the fact that they should have handled it because the only reason I went out of the 7 day range was because the stylist was communicating with me & I thought she could handle it but she didn't. Thus costing ME more money. But even after speaking with a manager & agreeing to come back in & PAY to fix their mistake, the manager said she'd speak to the stylist & have her call me. Stylist never called & when I contacted her she said the manager would be calling. After being told this for a few days then the stylist ceasing to respond to me, I give up- I will not be spending money here, sending clients here, or considering their school program anymore. The owner shouldn't have told me what I wanted (I made it clear I didn't like what she suggested but the stylist wouldn't speak up), the stylist should have cared about her client/fixing the issue, & the manager should have made sure her staff was following up with clients. Unacceptable. I regret paying cash because otherwise I'd file a claim with my back- DO NOT PAY CASH IF YOU TAKE A RISK ON THIS PLACE! read more

I had an excellent experience at this cosmetology school in Duluth, GA. Felt very comfortable in a nice and professional environment. My student did a great job on my hair color and there was always supervision of her work throughout the whole time I was there.
