    Burn Mark on my forehead

I went here for a perm. First time and last time. I told the girl who was doing my hair that I felt a burning sensation. And she gave me a towel then went to grab a band aid. The instructor gave me a bendryal. And I paid full price still. I have third degree burns and can't turn my neck. And a small burn on my forehead.

My friend is a regular here and scheduled an appointment for the both of us on a Saturday. Their schedule stays full on the weekends so you'll need to schedule an appointment. It made me a little nervous to have students practice on my hair, though it couldn't be worse than coloring my own hair, which I've stopped doing. Before anything is done, an instructor approves everything and makes sure the student knows what they're doing which was comforting. I decided on full foil highlights, deep conditioning treatment and a trim. There was an additional $10 for glaze that I wasn't aware of, but I was okay with that since my total for everything was around $75. I was there longer than I expected, but in the end the results were great. Same results as a high end salon at a fraction of the cost. I wasn't impressed with my trim, but I was with the highlights. I will be back soon for partial highlights under $30. I did see a sign while I was there offering free hair cuts with color services on certain days of the week, like a happy hour special. More specials listed on their website.

    Thanks D!

The salon at Keune is my new go-to for all matters hair!!! I called late morning today and was able to get an appointment early this afternoon. I came in with a hair catastrophe and was set up with the best super-senior ever, Dejeana! What really impressed me was how much effort was put into the pre-cut consultation. I talked at length together with my stylist and 2 instructors to make sure we were all clear on the goals and strategy for my hair. I've been to other salons and often wondered if the stylist listened to me; this was not a problem at Keune! An instructor came by before every step of the process (sectioning, washing, clippers, texturing, styling) to check the work and make sure we were on the right track. Other older students without clients also chimed in. Yes it was long-winded, but I did get the benefit of 10 stylists making sure no step was over looked. The whole process took maybe 90 minutes and $18 before tip (prices vary by what level student you work with) and I left slayin' it!!!! (I'm uploading pics of D's amazing work!)

My job starts in 3 days and I look like a raccoon the way u can see every line. Would definitely NOT recommend stay away from the bald guy with glasses. Basically the man instructing them wants everything done himself do NOT go here because u will get a bad men's haircut go to your usual barber trust me.

I walked in a strawberry blonde and walked out with blotches and stripes of red, green, ash and brown. I have to say the girls were very sweet and worked hard to get it right. The problem was the man instructing them. He handled all the dye mixes. Even when the girls and I knew the process has gone wrong, he kept insisting it was just some red in my scalp. I held up strands of my hair with a red blotch at the root, a streak of bleached blonde, and another of copper, and told him that's not scalp. I should have walked out then. Instead I let him mix up two more batches of dye, one to tone down the red splotches and another to tone down the bleachy streaks. You can see the result. The girl next to me fared no better. She kept saying how bright yellow her hair was and asking if it would darken up. The whole thing was a horrifying experience made worse by the condescending and arrogant instructor. If he had even once acknowledged there was a problem, I would have thought it was a fluke mistake. But he kept saying it was fine and that it would tone down after a couple of washings. The girls in the shop knew better. I had strands of hair with hard verticals stripes of colors not found in nature. There was nothing soft and subtle about it. I knew they felt terrible, but it was really out of their hands. I asked one of them if they would walk in to a job interview with this hair ( I have one scheduled), and she sadly shook her head. I hope my experience helps prevent others from making the same mistake. I was betting on the five star reviews, and learned the hard way. Tomorrow I go to a professional design studio to see if they can do anything to repair the damage.

If you're coming in for a good and quick cut, then go somewhere else!!…read more I went here after reading a review that the price is about $7 for a basic men's haircut and is done by students. I expected a student to cut my hair for their experience and I would pay them... instead I was charged $25 for the haircut by a "licensed barber" and he did a horrible job, even after the repeated fixes I requested. Since I came with my father I assumed the price was for both of us but it wasn't. It took the barber about 45 minutes or so to cut/trim my hair and when I got up I had to go outside and knock off all the excess hair left over. The students and staff were not dressed as professionally as I would have expected from a Barber School, and the atmosphere was inappropriate. They played vulgar standup comedy (Joe Rogan) on the TV for "Ambiance" which discussed topics such as sexual preference, politics, sexism, racism, etc... Also, the price list was not easily displayed on the wall or within view of the customers and I had to wonder around before finally finding it laying flat of the front counter partially concealed by some clipboards. When I went to pay they acted like they didn't have a card machine and I later found it as well. I have attached a picture of the price list so that no one else will be confused when choosing a barber to try out.

The first Groupon I got was worth more than the second one they made me get. I will not be able to use the first Groupon before the expiration date. The front desk said it could still be redeemed after the date. We'll see about that. Anyway, I ended up spending more money than I thought. That said....the student who colored, shampooed, and cut my hair did a great job and even her teacher was impressed. The instructor Miss D made me feel that I could trust them and indeed everything about the hair was to my liking. They also took less time that I thought it would take. I would go back but the overall experience is not for everyone. I would say be very patient and understanding with everybody in the business. Anyway, I hope the student succeeds and reaches her stylist goals. I am rooting for them all!

I genuinely cannot believe the way the Elaine Sterling Institute handles customers -- and that's…read moresaying something, because I'm usually very patient and understanding, especially with students in training. Let me start with the student I worked with: she was sweet, eager to learn, and honestly the only bright spot in this entire nightmare. The rest? Absolutely atrocious. * Undertrained execution -- but I get she's new - I've had dozens of Hydrafacials from both spas and med spas, so I'm very familiar with proper technique. The student was clearly still learning and not yet comfortable with the suction component or the correct spacing of the device on the skin. I didn't say anything at the time because I understood she was in training -- and at $45 versus $150+ at a professional spa, I wasn't expecting perfection. Still, the bed was rock hard, and I left with a sore back. * Hospital-like setup - The treatment rooms are divided by odd curtains, giving the whole thing a cold, clinical feel instead of a relaxing spa environment. You're asked to put your belongings in plastic baskets "for safety," but those are left in the open which just makes it feel unsafe. * Random, low-quality products - Half of the benefit of a facial is using quality skincare products suited to your skin type. Here, they use a weird in-house line with low quality ingredients or use random products in small plastic tester cups. * Horrific customer service - The management is, without exaggeration, the most entitled and rudest I have ever encountered in any business. I was double charged for my service and treated with zero professionalism when I tried to get it resolved: * Predatory pricing & bait-and-switch tactics - Their own website spa menu listed a Hydrafacial at $45. My friend had been there two times before and always paid $45. I checked out without being told the total and was told my credit card on file would be charged. I later got an emailed receipt for $99. I emailed management politely asking about the discrepancy and seeking a refund, thinking it was a mix-up. No reply. The next day I called, only to be told that IT "couldn't find" the page I had screenshotted. When I checked the site again, the page was gone. A new "Spa Services" tab had appeared with brand-new pricing 2-3x higher than before. The manager insisted it had "always been $99" and they would not change the price (though I shared screen shots showing otherwise). When I asked her to reconsider so I wouldn't have to dispute the charge with my credit card, she told me -- verbatim -- "If you do that, you'll be banned for life." I have never met a more unprofessional person in my entire life. This is the sketchy facility they're running * Not an isolated case - Ironically, I later caught up with my friend who had been 2x before and her experience might have been worse. Her Hydrafacial machine broke mid-treatment, she was yelled at by management, and was also double charged -- despite previously paying only $45 for the exact same service. This isn't about one bad day or a single mishap. The issues here are systemic: poor training oversight, dismal facilities, random products, and management that treats customers like they're inconveniences rather than the reason the business exists. If you're considering going here to "save money" while supporting students -- think twice. You may end up paying more than you bargained for, both in dollars and in frustration.
