Ohhhh my gosh we LOVED Makahiki! We ate here for both character breakfast and dinner. Breakfast- We loved eating character breakfast here! We came at 7am which was so nice because it wasn't crowded. We got some extra time with Mickey Mouse in the beginning and since it wasn't crowded, the characters visited our table 2-3 times. The food was great too! We loved the donuts, omelets, lox and bagels, and gluten free minnie mouse waffles! They were SO kind in having gluten free options (gluten free waffles, fruit, gluten free muffins). The gluten free food was delicious. We all loved our food and we really had a great time! Beautiful view and environment too! Dinner- This was absolutely the best dinner we had during our trip. It's a 3 course meal and you get to choose off of the menu. I got the corn chowder, prime rib, and pineapple dessert. My date got the tomato soup, seared ahi, and pineapple dessert. All of the food was amazingggg! We also LOVED our drinks we ordered. We ordered an old fashioned and then our sweet server had the bar whip me up a custom drink! Both were so good! For both meals, the service was amaaaazing! They are so kind and go over and beyond to make sure you have a great experience. They constituently checked in with us, gave us great recommendations, and got us everything we needed. What a fantastic way to start our day and week at the Character Breakfast! The food is awesome for sure - but so is the company (characters) and the ambience is awesome right here in the middle of the resort at Aulani! The service is outstanding and we are so happy and blessed to be here! We were able to greet Mickey & Minnie, Goofy and Stitch at breakfast! We enjoyed macadamia nut pancakes with sweet syrup sauce; Mickey waffles and bacon; a farmer's omelet and potatoes - we had huge portions and the price for 4 (2 kids and 2 adults) was really good for all the food, the live music and the character visits over and over to our table! I also note that we didn't not attend the Luau this trip - which costs $200-$300+ per person (at Aulani). We opted to skip because we've been before and figured we would wait some before taking the kids - a little bit older for the best age to really fully enjoy that aspect of the show. You can get all the pictures with your personal camera/phone/device but know that the character breakfast photos by the photo folks with Mickey are not included - they will offer a $45 photo package to include and featured photo in the cardboard decorated photo frame and a photo pass card representing all the photos taken with Mickey as a family and as individuals at the featured photo session with Mickey during the (breakfast) character meal experience. This has been our 4th visit to Makahiki as we usually do dinner reservations at least once during our Aulani stay. Service is always top notch and we always leave with lots of leftovers. I never have done the character breakfast so this review is purely for their dinner experience. I kinda wish though that they change up the menu more as I recall the menu not changing much each time we visit. The dinner menu is a set 3 course meal where you have to pick an appetizer, main entree, and dessert. The kids have a set 3 course meal to choose from as well. This time I ordered their ahi tuna special, which so happened to be the special over 2 years ago lol! I chose their corn chowder as my appetizer and honestly after the cheesy bread rolls and soup, I was pretty stuffed by the time my entree came. It was still a lot of food, and I only took like 3 bites before o threw in the towel. As for the dessert, I chose the dulce de leche cheesecake, which deviates from the usual Mickey brownie with ice cream that I ordered. I still prefer the brownie now that I've tried both. Ambiance is nice and I actually prefer the outdoor seating because I find the architecture and landscape of the resort so beautiful. We had breakfast at Makahiki with the Disney characters. They have a set number of menu items. Unlike.the character breakfast at Disneyland, it's not a buffet. We ordered from the Keiki menu and got eggs and sausage for the little one. I ordered a Kalua pork omelette, and my family ordered a traditional omelette with bacon and veggies, and the Mickey Mouse Belgian waffles breakfast. They all came with fingerling potatoes, fresh fruit and Malasada donuts. The servers were very attentive and accommodating. The coffee and food were fresh and truly great quality. We made reservations in advance. There's plenty of seating and they can accommodate large groups. We really appreciated the koi pond outside of the restaurant and the live ukulele artist playing 80's songs. The Disney characters made their rounds in the dining room and there's a photo opportunity with Mickey Mouse before being seated. We were greeted by Minnie Mouse, Goofy and Pluto during our breakfast. They are so friendly and provided autographs for my daughter Lauren. Overall. Upon seating, our server immediately took our drink orders and brought us waters leaving us time to admire the beautiful atmosphere. The prix fix options for dinner are one appetizer (four options), one entree (6-7 options I believe), and one dessert (three options) for $85 a person - pricey but hopefully worth it. The Caesar salad was presented beautifully and all ingredients incredibly fresh. The dressing was a tad fishy for those who don't like that, but the homemade croutons were insanely good. My steak was cooked to perfection, but I do wish the butter was melted onto the steak instead of the sauce which was only okay. My broccolini was a little burned on the ends but the mashed potatoes were perfect and garlicky. We each got a different dessert and all were perfectly amazing. The Mickey brownies were decedent and the perfect texture. The cheesecake was fluffy and delicious (sans the espresso cream dollop at the front of the plate which was very strong). The pineapple crumble with ice cream and macadamia nuts was the perfect mix of sweet, salty, and cinnamon-y. We were able to snag some last minute reservations. People cancel all the time so if you keep checking you should get one. That is what happened with us. We thought the entire experience was wonderful and well organized. It is not going to be the next hot brunch place in SF but I thought the food was hearty and delicious. $50 dollars a person for this character dining experience. It was well worth it in our opinion. We were directed to take photos with mickey outside on the patio. He doesn't come inside the restaurant. We didn't opt for the photo pass during our stay but they do take professional photos for you along with your regular phone. They do try to sell it to you later while you are dining. We don't have many family photos so we did end up purchasing. Our picky toddler loved majority of the food offerings except for the fruit punch - it tasted like medicine- I don't blame her. Every person gets a Masada and fresh fruit. The food fame out quickly and we all felt it was a good amount of food. As a family we finished two entrees + and had one left over for leftovers. Makahiki - the disappointment that you were. We dined at Makahiki for breakfast on our checkout day. Breakfast at Makahiki is the only option for character dining in all of Aulani. For breakfast, we checked in and then had to wait on the side for about five minutes before being brought to a line we had to wait on to see Mickey. Mr. Mouse looked like he was in peak vacay-mode in his shorts, Hawaiian t-shirt, and floral luau. We took a bunch of photos and then were lead into the dining room. Characters at makahiki are subject to change on a daily basis. Options can be Chip, Dale, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Max. The makahiki menu was surprisingly disappointing. I knew that in advance because I had looked at the menu several months out, but Makahiki was a must-do simply because of the uniqueness of the character breakfast. We were given hot and fresh malasadas to munch on while looking at the limited menu. On our dining day, the available characters were Chip, Dale, and Donald. They circulated the dining area visiting their new friends. I don't know if we dined too late, but the only character that came to see us was Chip. I had Mickey waffles for breakfast and hubs had a farm-fresh egg and bacon platter. The food was tasty and fresh, but there was nothing exciting or exotic about the food. Mickey gave us a great hug and that is worth any price tag. This review is for the character breakfast. A few in our group have been here before, and the rest of us were here for the first time. We made reservations a couple of months in advance for a large party and were seated within 15 minutes of checking in. Once called, we had a chance to take photos with Mickey Mouse, who was stationed near the host's desk. Everyone in our party had a picture with Mickey, then we were led to our table. The breakfast menu includes set starters and entrée options, no longer a buffet. Everyone at the table started with fresh fruit and a malasada. For my entrée, I chose the Punaluu Sweet Bread French Toast with Portuguese sausage. I enjoyed the French toast, though a bit sweeter than I'm used to, and the sausage was just ok. I've had better Portuguese sausage elsewhere. Some of my family enjoyed the Loco Moco, Kalua Pig Omelet, and Buttermilk Pancakes. A few characters (Minnie, Pluto, and Stitch) made their way around the dining area multiple times, greeting everyone, giving hugs, and creating photo opportunities. So we tried to make reservations months ago for the character breakfast before we stayed at Aulani but they were all booked. So during our stay we just went to the breakfast and they were so accommodating and we got right in after waiting 10-15 min. I would say this breakfast is all worth it if you have a little one. They'll meet some of their favorite Disney characters during the breakfast. Which once you see your kids face light up, it's all worth it. Let's get to the food.. We started with Malasadas which is a Portuguese sugar donut and my daughter loved it! No picture because we ate them so quickly lol. Then for my entree I ordered the loco moco which is hamburger steak with eggs and gravy on top of rice. It was very good and everything good cooked to perfection. Wifey ordered the Kalua Pig omelet which of course I tried. It was moist and not dry which is a good thing. You want the Kalua pig juicy because if it's dry you won't eat it. During my stay at Aulani, I tried out Makahiki for their character breakfast. Reservations were easy to get through their website, and when we arrived, checking in was very smooth. We were directed to a line where we waited to get a photo with Mickey! After the photo, we were brought back to the waiting area until we were seated shortly after. Each meal comes with coffee/juice and water and assorted fruits and a malasada as a starter. You then choose one main course from the breakfast main courses for your meal. We tried the french toast and the kalua pork omelette as our main dishes. The portion size is quite large and I was unable to finish it in one sitting, so I did end up bringing some of it back to the room. The omelette was tasty and they were generous with the amount of pork inside. The french toast was very good and the bread was thick and fluffy. The icing on top was also a nice sweet addition. Service was awesome and we got to meet Stitch, Minnie, and Pluto while we ate! It was very cute to see the characters come around. While the experience overall was good, I would say that the price point is really hard to justify. At the time of our visit (November 2025), the price for breakfast was $57 per adult (pre-tax). It's very cool to see the characters, but they only come by once to get some photos with you, and the breakfast dishes are similar to the same dishes you can get elsewhere for less than over $60 per person. Makahiki used to be a character breakfast buffet experience, and after Covid it seems they removed the buffet while still keeping the price point. I reserved the character breakfast for my family - my 4 year old, 2 year old, husband, and both grandmas - about two months in advance because the table reservations fill up quickly, especially during the holidays. The experience was, to say the least, fun, though I would have said it was a blast if not for my daughter who was terrified of all the characters that tried to go near her. Fyi, I reserved this for her belated birthday gift and I honestly thought she would cheese it up. Nope, not my child. Max took the cake for her. Not only did she yell that his eyes were creepy, she proceeded to hide under the table and did that for the rest of our brunch anytime a character passed by. Aside from my daughter's traumatic experience, everything else was great. The character came so frequently, it almost became bothersome for me because of how it affected my daughter. My son loved all of them and hugged them like no one's business and the grandmas, well, they had more photos than anyone at the table. Max was certainly respectful, as he, mano'd both grandmas. Food was delicious, though the malasadas outshined the main courses. I will say confidently that the malasadas were better than Leonards. I said what I said. As for accommodations, my daughter has a nut allergy and they were very privy to this. Last time I came here was more than a decade ago, back when it was buffet style. Now it's a three-course Disney character breakfast, and it's such a fun experience. You take a photo with Mickey at the beginning, and then different Disney characters come around to your table so you can take more pictures. It's interactive, relaxed, and the staff is genuinely friendly. The price is reasonable for what you get, and the food was actually tasty. We had the vegetable omelet and the loco moco--both were huge portions. The meal comes with a fruit bowl (a bit small) and malasadas, plus unlimited non-alcoholic drinks. No alcohol, but honestly, you don't really need it when Mickey is visiting your table. LOL. Too bad Stitch wasn't there. Maybe he can't cook and mess up the entire dining experience. Hahaha. We went on President's Day for breakfast. My wife and I have been here a few times, but not in a while. Chef Stitch and Chef Minnie did our cooking. We thought they did a great job in cooking. The place was busy as usual and got lucky in making a last minute reservation. We got to take a photo with Mickey before being seated and also got to meet Pluto. Service was good and didn't have to wait long. We valet parked and just pay a tip. It was a fun atmosphere and didn't felt rush. We got to chat with each characters and took a selfie with them. I think the value of the breakfast is good, all things considered. The fruit was super fresh and delicious, malasadas were good (though not close to being the best I've had), and the meal portion was good sized and tasty. My daughter hates breakfast food, and our server kindly allowed us to order off the keiki menu for her, though technically she is older than the 3-9 age for the keiki menu. With the adult menu costing $55, this was a great kindness. We got to do a meet-and-greet with Mickey, Minnie, Max and Pluto. All of them were wonderful and so fun. Almost everyone goes to Makahiki for the Character Breakfast but my husband and I wanted to have a nice dinner at Aulani, since we canceled the luau reservation. 'AMA'AMA wasn't open on the dates we were there, so we chose Makahiki over the Olelo Room. We had a reservation but you could probably book the week of your stay as needed. We arrived on time and had a short wait before we were seated inside against the wall. We had asked for the patio but they were reserving the patio for larger parties. Makahiki offers prix fixe dining for dinner and there is a lot to choose from. We had trouble choosing but were fairly happy with our choices. We started out with a Mango mojito. I opted for the corn chowder, BBQ pork ribs with mac & cheese and broccolini, and the caramel cheesecake for dessert. My husband went with the wedge salad with ranch dressing, NY prime strip steak with whipped potatoes and asparagus, and Mickey brownie a la mode for dessert. Our waitress was super nice and we had a great time with our meal, while people watching. There was a lot of food. After finishing our appetizers, we did not finish our mains and ended up bringing some leftovers back to the room to enjoy next day. We shared one dessert and packed the other to go as well. Being in Ko Olina, we enjoyed the open air dining with the touch of Disney magic. I'm a Magic Key Holder so I would rate this restaurant on par with Blue Bayou at Disneyland. I'm really glad that we sprang for the character breakfast. It was fun to do the meet and greet with Mickey and have the characters come to the table. Every single character stopped by at least once. No complaints about the food, although it was disappointing to hear that it used to be a buffet, but is no longer. The menu was very accessible for my kids and everyone enjoyed the malassadas that came to the table to start. We also came here for the three course dinner one night, so I wanted to review that as well. It was expensive, especially for the kids' food, as it wasn't really that different from what they were eating at casual dining spots, like chicken strips. Let's get straight to the point: I know that it's expensive here, and the food, while very good the day we went, wouldn't at all be worth the price if you were eating breakfast at a regular restaurant. Obviously, everyone has their budget, and a lot of it depends on how many people are in your party. But you're not paying just for food here. You're paying for the full experience--which also would not be worth it if you're not a Disney fan. But if you really enjoy Disney or the Disney resorts and parks, the character breakfast here is a must-do, in my opinion. It begins with checking in, followed by a photo meet-and-greet outside with Mickey Mouse, decked out in his Hawaiian best. The cast members are very friendly and will take photos both with their own camera (to try to sell you a photo package later) and with your own camera. We didn't even have to ask. And the photos came out great. Later, when someone circled around to the various tables to offer the photo packages, they didn't try to hard-sell me. A polite "no thank you," and the person happily moved on. Next, they seat you, and your server offers you non-alcoholic beverages, which are all included. The POG juice is delicious, and I couldn't help but get a refill. The coffee is also very good; Disney definitely didn't go cheap like they could have here. Next, you are provided with a malasada for each person in your party. They are good, though certainly not as good as a malasada you'll get elsewhere on the island. (I hear the pastry basket that they used to serve instead was a hit, so it's too bad they changed this out.) You also receive a bowl of fresh fruit each that is pretty generous and of high quality. Finally, you receive your breakfast entree, and they have a good number of entrees to choose from. Wanting to have protein for my main course, I went with the Eggs Your Way breakfast with two scrambled cage-free eggs, Portuguese sausage, and herb roasted potatoes. My wife chose the O'ahu Farmer's Omelet, which includes three cage-free eggs, asparagus, bell peppers, cremini mushrooms, local tomatoes, grilled red onions, fontina and goat cheese, basil pesto, and herb-roasted potatoes. We both thought the quality of the food we received was really good, and we each fully enjoyed our meals and the portion sizes. At first, depending on what entree you order, you may not think it's enough food, but I was totally stuffed by the time I ate and drank it all, and I think you will feel the same way. The food comes out rather quickly, and the characters start making their rounds. While I wish that they had a few more characters than they currently do, we were not disappointed. We were greeted by Minnie Mouse, Chip, and Dale. And each one was great, spent a little time with us, and posed for photos. For Disney parks and resorts fans, this is such a treat. While the entire experience is very similar to a character breakfast you'd experience at one of the Disney parks or mainland Disney resorts, the ambience is not. We totally loved the Hawaiian feel of the restaurant, its beautiful decor, and the somewhat open-air eating area. Eventually, a cast member showed up playing his ukulele while we ate, and he was very talented. The whole feel was awesome, even if it is a bit noisy, as you might expect at a character meal. Our server was friendly. And while service moves quickly, we never felt pressured to get up immediately and leave--and we were there at the end of the breakfast cycle. (They also serve a character dinner, but it is more expensive, and I personally like the sunny, bright breakfast experience here.) Important: You must have a reservation to get in here, and I recommend that you make yours when the window opens 30 days in advance of your reservation date. The slots go quickly, as you might imagine. So, if you are wondering whether this experience is worth it, it definitely is if you don't come here often, you love Disney experiences, and you come for breakfast. Celebrating a special occasion and wanted a nice place to eat. Our 1st choice was booked out for the week at sunset (Ultimately it didn't matter. It raining and overcast the whole time - but hey it's Hawaii!). Last time here was 10 yrs ago for brunch. Today it's a solid 3-course dinner menu & no characters. Selecting from that short menu was hard - everything sounded good. For me Kahuku Corn & Potato Chowder - rich, good flavor & toppings (everything's better with bacon). 14oz Prime Rib - the crust was overly salted. Fortunately the salt didn't affect the meat below it. It was served medium rare as ordered. Pineapple cobbler was a great choice for dessert. Loaded with pineapple and the macadamia nuts. For the Mrs 12oz NY Strip Steak. Cooked as ordered and nice flavor. The Bordelaise Sauce wasn't overpowering. Dulce de Leches Cheesecake ended her meal. Very sweet, too much for her with lots of flavor & creamy. We also got a nice mousse topped mini cake with an anniversary message - nice touch. The meal was excellent, server on top of things. Overall a much better experience. The only downside was the noise - it was really loud. We found it difficult to carry on a conversation. read more

We visited Makahiki specifically for the Disney character dining. While they do offer dinner, the Disney character dining is only available for breakfast. After checking in, we lined up to take a photo with Mickey. It was only 3 families before us and we didn't have to wait too long. Once we finished taking pictures, we waited about 15 minutes before being seated. We were seated outside with a nice view of the Aulani pools. Breakfast is served as a three-course meal. It starts with malasadas and a side of fruit. I ordered the Mickey-shaped Belgian waffles--too cute to resist! I couldn't finish them, but the leftovers made a perfect grab and go snack for my kids later which was a bonus. During our visit, we saw Minnie, Chip, and Dale who walked around each table for a personal meet and greet. The staff were incredibly friendly and offered to take photos when characters came by. The characters were also happy to sign our autograph books, which made the experience extra fun. Reservations are required and they do book up fast, so be ready to reserve as soon as slots open. Reservations open up in HST, so set your alarms to book. Same day reservations may be available-- check first thing in the morning at the restaurant to see if there's any availability. read more

We came in with high hopes for a memorable family dinner, especially considering the price point and the fact that it's located at Disney. While the service started off strong, things quickly took a disappointing turn. We clearly communicated our food allergies at the beginning of the meal, only to be served a salad containing ingredients we specifically said we could not have. That was an immediate red flag. Once our main dishes arrived, our server seemed to vanish. It was difficult to get her attention, and I eventually had to flag down another staff member just to get a drink refill. When the food eventually came it was all COLD. She never came back to check on how we were or how things tasted. As for the food itself, it fell flat. The meals lacked flavor and felt uninspired--definitely not what you'd expect from a place charging nearly $500 for a party of six. Small touches, like garnishes or better seasoning, might have elevated the experience, but they were nowhere to be found. Unfortunately, this meal did not meet our expectations, especially under the Disney brand. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant, and we won't be returning. For the cost, we expected much more in terms of care, flavor, and overall experience. OKAY......we got a call later the next morning from the front desk (Josh) and he was super apologetic. And said he'd forward the information to the restaurant manager. The Makaheki manager (Aaron) called and totally made it right. We decided to do the character breakfast and the service was AMAZING. AARON went above and beyond. We were completely speechless!!!! Aaron saved the DAY!!!! What a great asset to the Disney family! Changed the 1 star to 5 STARS! read more

Located in the Aulani Disney hotel, We went here for the Disney character breakfast. Such a cool experience for the kids, but everyone had fun! It was $55 plus tax per adult and the menu was pretty good. We got some Malassada and fruit to start, then I ordered the farmers omelet add bacon and holy moley it was big and delicious- and so much bacon. We also got the sweet bread French toast and it was delicious. The kids menu offered cute Disney style food like pancake ears and Mickey waffles; it was so fun with Minnie, Pluto, and Stitch walking around and having fun with every guest. We booked our dinner reservation a week before our stay. Received a call reminding us of our upcoming dining a day before. We checked in and were greeted by the hostess. There are some benches in the waiting area for guests to hang out in. We were seated within 5-10 minutes. Our server, Sandi, made us feel right at home and recognized that we were locals. She explained the menu as well as the kids menu options. It was nice that besides the Mickey approved meals, you could mix and match any of the kid offerings for the 3 course dinner. Our daughter chose the tomato soup, fresh catch fish, salmon, and keiki sundae for $35. The adult prix fixe is $80 for 3 courses. I picked the chowder, 14 oz prime rib, and cheesecake while my hubby enjoyed the chowder, fresh catch, hamachi, and Mickey brownie with ice cream. He also added on the moriawase which came with a cute Mickey wasabi haha. Before we got our food, we were given complimentary dinner rolls, which tasted like a cheesy sweetbread, so delish! We also enjoyed our meals with a Lihing-rita and Lilikoi lada (tasted like a lava flow). Loved the combination of the lihing powder on the rim mixed with a margarita! They served every dish with huge portions so halfway through dinner we were already full lol. So we ended up asking for our desserts to go and packed up our dinner leftovers. While in Hawaii, we wanted to get into the Disney spirit! Back on the mainland, we always frequent Disney Parks at least 2-3 times a month. It seemed fitting to keep up with the Disney theme while on the big island! We headed over to Aulani Resort for the Makahiki character dining experience. As we walked on to the property, we were taken aback by the beauty of the resort itself. It's like a tropical oasis with a Disney theme. When we checked in, they had us step outside to take a photo with Mickey. He was dressed in shorts while sporting a Hawaiian shirt. After we finished posing for the photo, they scanned our Disneyland annual passes. The photo popped up on our photo pass for a preview. It was nice because we had a digital download after we purchased the photo. Once seated, we viewed the menu and made our selection. Of course they had Mickey waffles readily available! What I really liked was that they offered vegan sausage, yet it wasn't on the menu. I was glad that I asked for an alternative to the pork sausage. Characters walked around and posed for photos while patrons enjoyed breakfast. We met Minnie, Stitch, and Pluto! The odd thing is that as they visited each table, they sometimes forgot to come to the tables in the center of the dining room. So, some guests ended up waiting a bit longer to meet specific characters. It didn't bother us as we stayed for quite some time. Looking back on our experience, I can say that it was definitely worth the money that we spent at Makahiki! It's a spot that attracts tourists while bringing Disney magic to locals who may not have an opportunity to visit other Disney resorts. The experience alone is worth the money! The food was delicious, and I honestly wish it were all-you-can-eat like some of the other Disney character breakfasts -- but I still couldn't even finish my plate. The malasadas were so good, I just wanted more! I loved that the characters came by to interact with everyone. We came back home for a visit and decided to treat my grandbaby to the Aulani as well because she loves Disney and she absolutely LOVES swimming. Getting reservations isn't too bad just gotta wait in line early in the morning and it's not a problem. First and foremost the staff is all around amazing, from the hostess, to the servers, the live entertainer and the fun characters. My grandbaby loved it and we were WELL taken care of. Service was top notch. I deducted 1 star because out of everything we ordered. My husband's pancakes were the only thing we all tried to take a piece of. Loco moco-honestly I've had better at all my old stomping grounds and the best I've had was at YogurStory and my aunty's house so I wish I got the pancakes. Waffles-It was pretty dry, but the character shape kept my grandbaby entertained. O'ahu farmer's omelet-my daughter said it was just ok Malasadas-My grandbaby demolished hers, but when champion malasadas was open, the ones my daughter had catered at her wedding(best by far) and of course Leornard's, it doesn't compare unfortunately. The star of the show the buttermilk pancakes! It's a cross between the soufflé Japanese pancake and regular pancake. Coupled with the macadamia nut Tahitian vanilla cream it was pure heaven! We were all picking off my husband's plate and I was forced to feeding him my loco moco so I can have more of his. All in all a great experience, it does get pretty loud so trying to hear the people in your party is kinda difficult. But it is a beautiful well kept restaurant. Yes I would do this again but I'm DEFINITELY getting the buttermilk pancakes next time! read more

We enjoyed the photo and meet & greet with Mickey to start the brunch at Makahiki. Our server, Michelle, didn't have a smile on her face but quickly brought our drinks and starters to the table. Pluto and Chip & Dale were the characters while we were there. No Goofy or Minnie, like I've seen in other photos. The entrees were served along with the bill. Seemed like they wanted us out of there as quickly as possible. I didn't want to bring home leftovers, so we tried to enjoy our meals despite the server giving us our check so quickly. I enjoyed the loco moco and my husband ordered the lox bagel. Would we return? It was no Garden Grille! I think we would return to Aulani, but not to Makahiki. read more

Love Disney Aulani, and Character dining! Been here several times with in the years. And a lot has changed. Before the first pandemic it was buffet style meals with Characters for Breakfast and Dinner. Now Characters are only during breakfast. Breakfast is not a buffet and Aunty who interacts as well with the children is no longer there. I ordered the veggie omelet and the eggs were so rubbery and dry. Not worth the price. But if you're there for a celebration I guess it's fine for the kids. read more

I can't speak highly enough about Makahiki restaurant at Aulani. Service. Food quality. Convenience. Ambience. All boxes: CHECK. Every year, my parents spoil me and my sister's family to a weekend at the Grand Villas at Aulani. With that comes the anticipated character breakfast and dinner at Makahiki. We even have our go-to server Norman who has taken care of us for years with memorable dinner services. If there is one suggestion that all should note, it is to MAKE A RESERVATION ahead of time. We usually call one month in advance for our party of 10 to ensure a smooth morning/evening. The children's dinner menu is more extensive than what the paper lists. Keiki can choose mac and cheese or sliders if the prix fixe items don't appeal to your kiddo. Service is prompt for both day and night. Be sure to take pics with Mickey and friends if you sign up for the Character Breakfast! My boys love the Mickey Waffles and the Loco Moco was the crowd favorite for the grown ups. I am so impressed with their dinner menu. For a resort restaurant, I am in love with their Caesar salad, Filet Mignon/Ribeye Steak (depending on season), and warm chocolate toffee brownie with vanilla ice cream. I will eat EVERY LAST BITE with nary a crumb left behind. Norman is fantastic and as a bonus, takes amazing photos of your group if you ask politely. Not only will he willingly take your pic, but he took us to FOUR different backgrounds just so our family can choose the best of the best pics. Unreal! We love Aulani and have made memories that will last a lifetime. You cannot put a price on that kind of joy.
