According to the American Association of Endodontists, a diagnosis of irreversible pulpitis (the clinical justification for a root canal) requires lingering pain of 30 seconds or longer after the cold stimulus is removed. A sensation that disappears instantly is actually consistent with a healthy or reversible response. Despite this, Dr. Kim told me the result proved I needed a root canal -- which directly contradicts standard endodontic diagnostic criteria. Additionally, no written cost estimate was provided before the procedure. Under the federal No Surprises Act, healthcare providers -- including dental offices -- are legally required to provide a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before any non-emergency service. I was only told the cost after the root canal was completed, which is a violation of this patient protection law. A second opinion from another dentist confirmed my concerns about the cold test interpretation. This experience felt rushed, financially motivated, and lacking in the diagnostic thoroughness that patients deserve. If that's the case, why was the orthodontic consultation scheduled on a Monday in the first place? I had to arrange childcare for my younger child and take time out of my day to be here, only to be told I'll have to come back another day. This was completely avoidable and feels like a significant waste of my time. I understand that mistakes happen, but this seems like a scheduling issue that should have been caught either when the appointment was made or during the confirmation. To make things worse, one of their techs tried to charge us twice for a simple X-ray--just because my 4-year-old moved slightly. When I objected, they said they'd remove the charge. Then they argued with me at checkout to try to add it back in. Are you kidding me? He's four. What did they expect--perfect stillness and a signature? For a place that already bills over $600 per kid out of pocket, the idea that a redo X-ray costs extra is laughable. The whole experience felt nickel-and-dimey and exploitative. I was shocked they could take me right away which made me a little skeptical at first but she explained since I had a toothache they can take me right away so appointment day...I was greeted with a friendly smile and hello I felt at ease the atmosphere of their lobby was nice and clean and It didn't smell like a dentist office my anxiety lessened I was taken in right away and while sitting in that chair I explained my anxiety to the young lady who made me feel at ease we had a nice chat and she explained what would take place and then the doctor showed up she introduced herself as Dr. Ankita Agarwal she was very pleasant and kind understood my anxiety and said she would walk me through step-by-step explaining everything she would do to me then asked if I was ready and asked if she could lean me back now told me to take a deep breath try to relax and started the exam while stopping and asking me if I was OK she made me feel very comfortable and my anxiety lessen more and more as we chatted. I went in on an emergency as I had a tooth that was really bothering me with an infection, Dr. Patel wrote me a prescription for amoxicillin and it really helped, and I really did appreciate that. I was told the tooth needed to be pulled, and I would have to see Dr. Gurrero ( their contract oral surgeon ) for that which was no real big deal. They were also going to do a bone graft as I was going to get an implant done also. I went in on the 2nd of July for the extraction. I have found the dentist, hygienist, and the dental assistants at the office to always be nice and friendly. Dr Guerreros assistants were mean and snotty and not friendly at all. Well I should say that Dr. Guerrero doesn't have the best chair side manners either, as a matter of fact he could probably take some lessons from Dr. Patel in chair side manners. I was talking to dr about something, and without any warning or asking I get this big block shoved into my jaw to help my mouth open, which really pissed me off, I wanted to take that thing out and throw at the b***ch that put it in but I had been numbed up , so I stayed cool. So then he started to pull the tooth. then I tried to swallow and I couldn't, I was starting to gag, I was thinking I'm chocking. But then I figured out, the b***ch had place wad of gauze in my throat which was causing me to have a gag reflex. So then I'm sitting in the chair, trying to swallow from reflex as my mouth is drying out, then the b***ch tells me to move my tongue, I'm thinking move it? Well you stupid b where am I supposed to move it to? I can't exactly pull it out can I. Then I see she has something in my mouth holding my tongue. Then I'm thinking I'll be dammed if I am ever going to come back to this place again, especially with these people to get my implant put in my jaw. But wouldn't you know it, last Thursday I had one of my implants teeth come loose, so I called for an emergency appointment to come in and get it fixed. I was told there was nothing available until the next day . So I called a few places, and I called the Roseville dental company at 930 am, they got me in at 130 that same day. I went in, I got my tooth fixed and I asked if they could put in the screw for my implant after it healed, they said they could. I also told them about my experience at Citrus Heights modern dentistry, they all got a good laugh at that. I am going to Roseville dental company for an appointment about my implant on Monday. I will probably continue on with Dr.Patel as my dentist, and with Naz as the hygienist as they are both two of the kindest, nicest dental professionals I have ever met. But there is someone because of the people he employs that have no chair side manners that I will not go to. I really do not hold a grudge against Dr. Guerrero, I really don't have anything against him as a dental surgeon. I have been to a lot, and I do mean a lot of dentist in my lifetime, I have never seen or been around more miserable, snotty, and mean assistants then these things.
