Lunch Special: spicy tuna roll and spicy salmon roll
    Allison C.

Their sushi lunch special gives you two rolls for $10! I thought the rolls were good quality. I went on New Year's Day and they were open thankfully. It was somewhat hard to find the storefront if you have never been. It is on the second floor of the complex, right above the target entrance!

If you are looking for ramen, then I think you're goin, which comes with roasted pork belly, fish cg to enjoy Maki Bar! I ordered the Tonkatsu ramen, which came with roasted pork belly, a little bit of corn, bok choy, scallion and seaweed. The pork belly was tasty. Almost kind of smoky but delicious and not too fatty. The broth was flavorful as well. The staff was friendly. The restaurant was super clean, and it was busy with a lot of take out orders. They even have sushi platters here in case you want to have a party at home! I recommend you come in person if you're going to have ramen. This is more of a place you'd come (or order out) for a casual meal. Maybe not for a date night.

I stopped in after a yelp search while I was in the area. This spot is very clean, and I was able to sit and work while I ate. I had two shrimp tempura rolls with eel sauce. It was so good and fresh. I will definitely come again if I'm in the area.

Came here Tuesday night for dinner after work and had the whole restaurant to myself! I ordered the chicken teriyaki (which comes with a side salad) and a tuna roll. The side salad and tuna roll were super fresh and delicious, but the chicken teriyaki was a bit strange. The meat was rubbery and didn't taste like chicken. The portion was huge though, I took half to go. Should have stuck with sushi! Service was fast since we were the only customers. The restaurant was clean and quiet. Give it a shot for sushi, the pieces were pleasantly large!

California roll - no mention of peanuts - from GrubHub

You literally nearly killed my daughter. You do not disclose that you use peanut butter in your California rolls on the Delivery sites (Door Dash, Uber eats). So incredibly irresponsible and dangerous. What else are you not careful about?

Honestly the worst sushi I have ever had... really disappointing. Go literally anywhere else.

Honestly the worst sushi I've had in a long time. Not well-made, not quality controlled, pretty sure a lot of the supplies are not appropriate for sushi. Things that weren't supposed to crunch, crunched. Fish that should've been soft was dry and hard. Unevenly prepared, unevenly rolled, And really all together tasted terrible. The rest of the sushi in the photo was thrown away because we could not tolerate eating another bite. Never been there before. Never again.

Been here a handful of times & can't believe I've posted pictures from 2016 with no review.... from my visit on December 21, 2016: I wanted a quick snack after work before heading to the movies & to hold me over for dinner...surprise, as dinner was no longer necessary due to the abundance of portions I was given. The Seaweed salad was so fresh tasting & plentiful. Spring Rolls where you get more than the normal two (2) that were fried perfectly light & without a greasy residue. The Unagi...the Unagi...the Unagi...3 pieces of enormous & fresh cuts. The menu is vast with more than speciality and chef made Maki Rolls, you can delight in Tuna Poke, Entree Salads, Noodle Bowls, Japanese Rice Plates as well as drinks from the bar offering Wine & Sake. Each employee was kind, the dining area was quaint & staged with the right balance of tables & inspirational decor. The dinnerware of an indigo hue enhances the dining experience. The entire space was in immaculate order, especially the Unisex Restroom that was highly cleaned adding a warm touch of decor with a marble basin & blue mirror. Good service & great prices for the area to delve in a Sushi delight. Maki Bar is located below Traders Joe's & above the mini Target. You can luck up on parking on the street (metered) or for free in the parking garage behind the building.

After a crazy trip to Trader Joe's a friend and I decided to check this place out. It's a cute little sushi spot was great prices and pretty good sushi! The fish tasted very fresh and the rolls were filling. The service was pretty good and it's a great location. Definitely going back here if I'm nearby!

Soooo good! We were traveling and craving some good, fresh sushi to take out. We were not disappointed. We ordered the spicy crunch salmon roll, eel avocado roll, and the "amazing tuna roll". We loved having the option of brown rice for the rolls too! The seaweed salad was delicious as well and the miso soup fantastic! We will be back whenever in Bethesda!

The layout is interesting -- there's an upstairs when you walk in, but the sushi bar and a good bit of seating are downstairs. The menu is pretty straightforward with a mix of hand rolls, appetizers, specialty rolls, nigiri/sashimi, and traditional rolls. They also have a few solid combo deals, though I usually prefer trying a variety of items instead. Service was quick, which is always appreciated at a sushi spot. We ordered a few specialty rolls, two traditional rolls, and a couple orders of sashimi, all served together on one platter. The rolls were a great size -- filling without being overly large. The sashimi was fresh, and the traditional rolls really balanced out the meal nicely. The flounder and tuna sashimi were both excellent, and the California roll made with real crab was simple, fresh, and really satisfying. The total came out somewhere in the $70 range, so after tip and splitting it between two people, it was about $40 each to try multiple rolls and sashimi. Definitely fair pricing for the quality and amount of food. This spot had been on my list for a while, so I'm glad I finally made it over. I'd recommend checking out the menu beforehand so you can go in with a game plan and try the items that stand out most to you.

I ordered the 5 set hand roll with Hottie scallop, Kanpachi, Torch me slowly, Spicy salmon and Mango Tango. I loved the flavors of each one but the wrapping was tricky. Some of the rolls wouldn't come off because the wrapping had a lot of moisture so I ended up just eating it deconstructed. I prefer how Kazu Nori gives you each roll one at a time to prevent this. Overall great hand rolls but it's super messy so I'd give it a 3.8/5.

When we sat down and took about 10 minutes for someone to check in with us to see if we are ready to order or wanted to put anything in, which honestly I think is a little bit too long for a check-in. We had gotten a bunch of sushi and decided to try all of their mostly fatty nigiri, so the yellowtail belly, salmon, belly, and ottoro tuna. And a couple of rolls: Red dragon roll and Californian roll with real crab meat. The nigiri was just okay, for "belly cuts" it should be super tender and melt in your mouth. However, I felt like you had to work for the Nigiri more than you should have for the price point. The fatty tuna, being at market price at $17, was probably a the most disappointing than any other Nigiri bc of the quality and the price didn't match up. The best was actually the yellowtail, but still to much to work for as a "belly" cut. The rolls were decent, I like the crab in the California roll instead of the imitation crab. The red dragon was decent, just small, like not a special roll size that you'd normally see for something that's $17 price range. Overall, a bit expensive and the quality I'm not too sure, I was impressed with the more expensive cuts for the price point. There's nothing that made me want to come back as there's many other options in the DMV.

We were walk-ins, and didn't know that there was already a queue for the sushi - we were quoted about 45 minutes, which we thought was a bit extreme, but since we were in the area, we decided to wait. Off Uni which I saved for the last taste, first pieces stunk of ammonia, replacements were just bitter and off as well. These were suppose to be chef choice and he chose to serve off uni which could have easily been deteced with a sniff test. The salmon roe was also soft, runny, tasteless and off color. The remainder of the shashimi was OK but lacked the freshness one would expect for the price. Also the platter was so cluttered I could not identify what was what. Labels would be helpful. First time visit, first impressions are importent. Not the best experience I am giving an 1 star rating to draw attention for their managment and maybe fair warning to customers. I visited Raku on Thursday April 30 @7:30, Restaurant was about 3/4 full. A bit tight seasting as other's had described. Elbow to elbow almost. Typically noisy as resturantes are these days. 1. When we walked in, the receptionist / greeter had no uniform or ID badge so a bit confusing and no reception desk. Not the most welcoming hospitality. 2. Wait staff sort of dissappeared mid service or was just unattentive, they were right around the corner at the wait station. I dropped a chopstick on the floor and needed a repacement. I could not get eye contact so I had to get up and request a replacement after a few minutes. The two of us order the TOKU JO SASHIMI - (38) Chef's Choice ~ White or Multigrain Rice - $110. 3. The shashim was served an a single platter which was a bit crowded and lacked the artistry or elegance a $110 platter of shashimi shoud be presented. Many of the pieces were cut too large and chunky. I appreciate the generosity of the protions but they could / should have been sliced in half. Most of the fish tasted OK but lacked the brightness you expect from fresh cut shashimi. Maybe these platters are pre-prepared and storred in the cooler until needed. The rice served in bowls with the platter was extreemly bland to me. No flavor at all and a bit over cooked. 4. We ordeed the corn meal coated calamari as appetizer. This was adequate but lacked seasoniong and included a some what bland ambigious dipping sauce. Maybe garlic aioli. This was compped in compensation for the off uni in the sushi platter. Probabaly not going back regardless as I am not local.

Raku is an Asian fusion restaurant and have some verity of Asians menus that's nice things about here. Their popular coconuts curry noodles soup is from Thai or Vietnamese coconuts curry, and not as spicy as authentic Thai or Vietnamese ones so It's easy to eat. You can choose from 3 type of noodles and different soup - curry or simple broth. It's probably better choice here than their sushi for my preference. If we just want Sushi in near Bethesda area, Sushiko in Chavy Chase is good. When we crave for Authentic sushi we just go to authentic Japanese restaurants ( some Michelin stars "Sushi Taro" in DC ) that is truly authentic quality. I also go to other one for sushi ( "Love Sushi Makoto" in DC ) I know that's not even comparable category as those restaurants offers authentic real foods by Japanese owner and chef, and ingredients are real from Japan. I know It's not fair to compare to Asian fusion restaurant like Raku or typical local sushi places that other Asian or American own the place. Raku is very reasonably priced as it should be for actual ingredients. Price stays reasonable that makes this place a popular spot too. I have to be honest their miso soup tastes no real authentic favor to me. But Raku is definitely better choice of quality foods overall compare to other Asian restaurants in Bethesda. Sushi chefs and waitresses are asian and none of them are Japanese and that is ok as most of Sushi chefs and Sushi restaurants in USA the workers are not Japanese anyways. It is actually hard to find Sushi restaurants that owned by Japanese with real Japanese chefs and waitresses and staff in USA. They sometimes says welcome "irasshai" in some Japanese greeting ( that's only used in restaurant setting ) with their wrong accent that is cute to me:) Bethesda is a cute little town and Bethesda row is just like a corner cute village with surrounded by basic restaurants and cafes, normal shops, nothing luxury really, but safer and quiet, clean little town. Neighbors enjoy to go out to restaurants including this Raku as easy to access from near suburbs housing area, so my friends does and walking distance from their houses. This restaurant set small tables very close to next seat and there's very small bar that space is limited, that's as why it's always filled up and crowded. It's uncomfortable and no privacy, I wish they make space between next seats. Except winter, they offer outside seats and dog friendly that's a bonus for dog lovers.
