Salmon sushi rice, each overloaded with densely packed rice. sashimi next to the rice showing the quantity

Double to nearly triple the rice now on their sushi pieces. We're bursting at the seams and I've been here for at least 5 years and it's reached the point that I had to finally mention to my waiter. We didn't even order a second or third round since the first initial 'normal' order couldn't even be finished. He escalated my concern to the manager and the quick response was a shoulder shrug and that this is the expectation now. If this is the norm now, as confirmed by the manager, we will not be coming back.

Went with friends this weekend and did a la carte menu. Food was great as always. We normally do the ayce but wasn't too hungry this time so decided to try out something new. We all enjoyed it. Service was quick and friendly. We kept ordering more as if it was ayce. Had a fun evening. Thanks to all the staff for their hospitality!

We came here for AYCE sushi. The price is pretty good and they have plenty of options. The food was great and quality seemed good. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here as the servers were nice as well. My only complaint is that the bathroom was sticky/dirty which usually indicates that the restaurant doesn't have great hygiene.

Makoto restaurant serves fantastic food at an excellent price point. Despite its modest decor and small-business charm, the staff is warm and attentive. The extensive menu provides high-quality options. I've visited with friends and family numerous times, and it's BYOB-friendly.

Good service, need reservations, rolls are ok. They have a lot of rice, so you get full fast if you eat all the rice. In terms of ordering just sashimi, i say stick to the safe choices like tuna, toro if available and salmon . Avoid white tuna as it was spongy ans somewhat soggy, I suppose if you take this place at face value of all you can eat and bring your own wine or beer, we certainly have a winner. If you are looking for high quality Japanese, go somewhere else. I did like the warm eel roll, and the spicy tuna and jalapeño roll, both were very tasty. I broight wine and beers and they were happy to provide glassware for the wine. Place does get crowded Friday nights. I love mackerel but the one here was way too fishy for me. Kids love the food, nobody goes home hungry, you even get ice cream. Parking can be difficult during dinner time 630-8pm and if you dont have reservations, be prepared to wait. Staff is very accommodating!

We ate here on Friday night and it was a bit of a wait...but well worth it!! The food was tasty and for an AYCE sushi the food was very good. Between my 3 sons and I we ordered 11 rolls, 20 pieces of Nigiri, crab rangoons, tempura shrimp, and egg rolls. Can't complain about getting all of this for $120 plus tax and tips.

I read about this place on an article that named it one of the best sushi restaurants in Jersey and was super excited to try them. I did not know they have an all you can eat menu and they are BYOB. Makoto is a small sushi restaurant that by first look is not a date night restaurant, but most of the people there were on dates and you can tell many of them go their a lot. Staff knew most of the people who walked in. For a great price you can get a soup, salad, appetizer and unlimited sushi and ice cream. To start we had the seaweed salad, kani salad, scallion pancakes, crab ragoon and lo mein. I cannot remember all the names of the rolls, but they were all delicious. We were so full we did not have space for dessert. Definitely a great fine!

This was my second time here and I was not impressed. The time before this, I don't really remember because nothing was just that memorable. So, I had to give it another shot to make sure lol. They say first impressions are everything. When we came in, we were not greeted. There was a pick doing pick up in front of us but after he left, the waitress/hostess just continued on doing whatever it was she was doing. After 2 mins of silence, she finally looked up and said we can sit anywhere. Ok? You could've said that in the first place. It took the waitress quite a bit to come to our table with the menu. Which was a turn off instantly for me. Anyways, we had opted for the AYCE and they did not offer as much variety as I am used to other sushi AYCE spots. The seaweed salad and kani salad was a waste of stomach space. They basically drizzle mayo on the kani and called it a day. I had ordered the grilled squid and I kid you not, they put 4/5 pieces of squid on a huge plate. It looked like the pieces were scraps. The sushi rolls were pretty okay. My favorite was the special one with the soft shelled crab, everything else was just bland. The sashimi were cut into small pieces and was just not satisfying. Overall, there's too many sushi places to visit in the area. This one did not make the cut on my list. I would've made the travel to visit here if things were different.

the food is always a banger.. i love it so much. the only thing i did not like was the general tso chicken. the service is good HOWEVER do not go on a friday evening. the place is small however it can get overwhelming for the workers to remember everything you asked for. the place is fancy but very cozy and calm for friends or a family night. 10/10

Makoto has great service to go along with great Chinese food It's hard to find a decent spot in this area, but makoto made it easy! The chicken and broccoli was on point And the sesame chicken was crunchy and delicious The crab rangoons were tasty and hot And they even gave us dessert on the house! The hospitality was great, as we sat in to dine. It was quiet and nice. No one made us feel rushed. This place is somewhat small but it is amazing. The all you can eat special is fantastic. Their sushi is good and their appetizers are good as well. I enjoyed the beef and chicken satay a great deal! Likewise, their entrees are good! I enjoyed the sesame chicken over the general tso's chicken. Their teriyaki chicken was pretty good as it was strips of chicken with teriyaki sauce drizzle on top. The service is somewhat slow and the sushi can take a while. Nonetheless, the all you can eat special is fantastic and I will come here again for sure. Also please note that they might charge you a dollar for each piece of sushi or other food you don't eat. At the end of the day it was good food for all you can eat (cooked fresh everytime you order).

I've been to Makoto about 4 times now and I have loved it every time! Whether I come with one other person or with a party of 6, the quality has not changed. This last time we were a party of 6 and got there around 6pm. The place wasn't too busy with us being one of three filled tables. That soon changed as the dinner rush came in and the line was out the door! Our first round of sushi/kitchen items came out really fast and we were eating within 15mins of being there. The time it took our food to come out gradually got longer, but that is to be expected when every table in the store was filled. Still the staff was super attentive to our table, constantly coming to refill water and hot tea. The quality of the fish is amazing here and one of my favorites for AYCE sushi. Everything always tastes really fresh and the rolls are so good too! Even their ice cream at the end is good! I usually get the green tea, which has the perfect amount of bitterness, and the red bean! Price is really reasonable for the quality as well. After tip and tax, the price per person was about $33. Highly recommend visiting if you haven't already! read more

I hate this place. The service sucks (both takeout and in house) and I've gotten very sick from the sushi. Do yourself a favor and go to one of the downtown Rahway sushi spots. read more

This has been my Sushi spot lately. Cheap in price not in quality. With all the All you can eat sushi spots around central NJ, this is the diamond in the rough. I feel its a place you know about because someone you know told you about it. lol It has a very small but cozy dining area, check box menu stye, and BYOB. All the side dishes are amazing. With all you can eat sushi, a lot of the side dishes get put on the back burner. This is the only place I know, that Sushi will not be my main course. But the Sushi menu is very standard and nothing that you haven't tried else where. The servers are very nice and very attentive to you. Even though its a small place, they aren't trying to kick you out as soon as your done. And the amount of take out traffic that goes through here is crazy. Its just a good place to eat and be a little private. read more

Great sushi place! My husband and I stop here sometimes when we come to Woodbridge to shop at Wegmans. We've been here several times, and have enjoyed it each time. I've tried several of their rolls plus their spring rolls to start--all have been good. Service is always friendly and attentive, and we've never had trouble getting a table. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a sushi place in Woodbridge! read more

My friend and I came here because it was the only one near our current location at the time that wasn't closing during lunch. So glad we found this place because it is truly a hidden gem. Great sushi, so fresh and the place is so clean! The employees were very respectful and nice. One of the best sushi places I've had around Rutgers. They also have amazing prices for all you can eat! Only bad thing would be that they are very strict with the policy for it which shouldn't be a deal breaker but it's there. Highly recommend the special rolls. read more

This is my favorite sushi place in the area. All you can eat sushi and apps for $26 is well worth it if you come hungry. The beef satay, mussels, kimo roll and St.George roll are stand out items. The tuna tartare tempura roll is also excellent. The lower half is warm, and it's topped with fresh tuna. It's sweet, savory, crunchy, and I haven't had anything like it elsewhere. On certain occasions when they're busy, they have forgotten the Kani salad appetizer. That's about the only criticism I have. Take care when entering the parking lot as the apron is somewhat steep. read more

I ordered a vegetable pad Thai for take out. It was 99% noodles and barely any vegetables, and it had no peanuts ! On top of that I asked to put the hot sauce on the side and they charged me $0.50 extra just because I asked for the hot sauce on the side. Never ordering a pad Thai from here again. Not only do they nickel and dime everything but they're cheap with the vegetables and just give noodles. Very disappointed. read more

This was a great local spot that we visited. They have all you can eat here. The environment was a little busy and it's kinda small but the service was great. Server was very attentive. I have been here around 5-6 times now. My cousin and her boyfriend comes to this restaurant a lot. They have really good rolls. One of my personal favorites is the bon zai roll. We get their all you can eat buffet every time we come. I personally believe this is a better restaurant if you want sushi rolls for all you can eat. They have really good beef satay, fish, and kani & ika salad. I always have a craving for their beef satay. The dry udon is also really good. For the quality of food that you get, I believe the price is reasonable. The owners of the restaurant are really nice and really nice servers. The business is family owned. read more

I normally go to sarku japan for chicken teriyaki, but I figured I would try this place because it's close to my house. Big mistake. It's double the price and wasn't good at all. The chicken had a weird texture and the sauce was super thin. Also, the container was mostly onions and vegetables. I'll be sticking to my normal place for now on. read more

Excellent hidden gem in central Jersey! I stopped in for the first time and was surprised at how many things were on the menu! Japanese, Thai, chinese, Korean food; to be honest I was skeptical at the quality of the food if there was so much variety. The sushi rolls were all half the price of usual sushi places like U-Yee. I have to say that Makoto really delivered! The sashimi was fresh, the mango-avocado roll was unique and delicious, the lo mein very well seasoned and cooked. I found the rolls to be tasty and the service very attentive. Definitely taking my friends and family here. read more

Very good, highly recommended. Their sashimi is thickly cut and very fresh, as compared to some of the sushi buffet I've been to. Because the sushi buffet places we've been to cut their sashimi very thin, when we ordered the same number of pieces we couldn't finish. Even their ice cream cones in big portions. Makoto will always have a special place in my heart. Although I no longer live in New Jersey, I always make a spot to Makoto if I'm visiting. Everything there is great. From day 1, Makoto has felt like home. They are BYOB which is a plus. They have unlimited sushi which is a ++. Lol The place is always clean, the waiters and waitresses are always knowledgeable. On very few occasions when my order was wrong, they quickly fixed the error and made amends. You will not regret your visit. Enjoy! read more

everything delicious! fresh homemade food, lots of flavor and taste. the wonton soup was fantastic, with 2 delicious dumplings. the St. george roll was a whole lot of complimenting flavors. the lo mein is something I may get next time. General Tso was on point spicy and the orange chicken was great. If the food wasnt so good I would uave given them 4 stars as the service was a little lacking. Got the seaweed salad and the spicy girl roll and enjoyed both! Spicy girl roll had a good kick to it. Ordered takeout and so the seaweed salad was packaged in a styrofoam container, where the seaweed salad sat atop of a bed of iceberg lettuce that took up half the container. Wish that they had put less lettuce and more seaweed salad instead, since I did enjoy the seaweed salad! Would eat here again read more

I've been ordering from Makoto for about 4 years now, so I think it's time I leave them a review after all this time. This is my go to place when i am craving sushi but also want Lomein and some sort of chicken. (Orange, general tso, garlic chicken *ask for chicken breaded with garlic chicken or else it's not*). Their beef Lomein is by far best in the area. The CRAB RANGOON is the best I've ever had. Snow Mountain Roll sushi, amazing. You pay for what you get, which is freshness, flavorful and very satisfying. Don't second guess, just go for it!! read more

Pretty average spot for Asian food. A lot of people I know rave about their sushi, but I don't eat sushi so I couldn't say. To me, their Chinese food is just okay. I find it to be very greasy, moreso than other places in the area. If someone else is ordering, I'll get something, but it's not my go to place. read more

Great lunchtime delivery spot! - lunch specials are totally reasonable and the size 100% worth the slightly higher price than other sushi/Japanese/Chinese food places. - quality also totally with it Best off all- delivery is never long! Def recommendation if you work in the area for delivery. Have never been inside so can't give you much on that. The only negative is they dont let you know when they change the prices, so if you have some old menus you don't realize you'll be paying more unless you have a new menu or like me when you call and ask why it's more and theeen get told to check the new menu. Not a big deal but reoccurring customers should get a heads up Still 5 stars though! read more

I liked this place because it was sooo close to home and honestly it was packed!! For a sushi place this close by it's my new go toooo!! The sushi was decent the apps were great! We had the mussels and they were amazing!! They charge 50cents per roll for brown rice which is the norm. We got average rolls but it didn't taste as fresh as some of the amazing sushi places we have been. The service couldn't have got better I'm sure they flip tables fast because they don't have a ton of seating but I loved how we were in and out! It's BYOB so that's a big plus too!! It would be a solid 4 star if the sushi tasted more fresh!! Will I be back?? Definitely!! read more

First of all I would never recommend this place and would feel sorry for anybody who comes here. I came and joined my friends to come eat all you can eat. My friends order a head of times, and waited for a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes till at the end when they told us that we have to refill the ticket again because they lost it and didn't start our order. And when we try to pay for only the 2 or 3 appetizers in total, they wouldn't let us and made everybody get charged $14 even if they didn't order it. And not to mention that the fact that we found a screw inside one of our friends water cup. And the customer service is strait trash. Would never recommend!!!! read more

I visit Makoto specifically for their all-you-can-eat option, which is an incredible deal I think it's around $35. The menu offers a great variety of dishes, including sushi, noodles, crab rangoons, fried rice, and more. My personal favorites are the crab rangoons, pork gyoza, and the spicy mango shrimp roll -- all full of flavor and so yummy. One thing I love about the all-you-can-eat experience here is that you can order food in smaller portions throughout your meal, allowing you to try different items without overwhelming yourself with too much at once. Just be mindful of their policy -- if you leave too much food behind, they will charge you extra. Another perk is that Makoto is BYOB, so you can bring your favorite drinks to enjoy with your meal. I rarely put bad review if food is ok. This restaurant good is as good as review suggested. However, the service is horrible. We asked for two additional plates and the waitress said why, your two kids are in sleep. She may not know if kids do wake up. That is very rude. Then one of my toddlers cried. She spoke her language to said how behave her family kids.. thanks.. i know each word she said.. i ordered two all you can eat. She told me four times that she will charge me 1 dollar per shushi waste..she told me the price does not include tax..dude, who is she?.. i always pay tax... do i look like i cannot afford it? Makoto is a great spot if you're looking for good quality food at a very reasonable price. The sushi is fresh, the portions are generous, and the menu has plenty of choices for both lunch and dinner. I feel like the value here is really good compared with many other Japanese restaurants in the area. The service was friendly, and the food came out nicely prepared.
