On this visit I ordered: Salmon Don $22 Edamame $4.95 Gyoza $6.95 Chicken Fried Rice $12.00 Rainbow Salad $11.95 Rainbow Roll $13.00 We thought the Chicken Fried Rice was very good, the chicken was tender, and the rice wasn't too heavy. Both the Gyoza and the Salmon were also very good. The Rainbow Salad was the least favorite dish. The order was ready on-time, and the food was separated into hot and cold paper bags. I came with my friend on a tuesday night and was seated right away. There were lots of tables, but throughout the dinner-time, maybe 4-5 other couples/groups came and went, but the restaurant was relatively empty, so no need for a reservation on a week day. The restaurant is really quiet, I don't think there was any music or anything, so I could hear other people's conversations and felt like others could hear mine, which I didn't mind in my particular scenario, but something to keep in mind. I tried sushi and my friend got ramen. I enjoyed my sushi, but the price of a regular roll cost around $8-$9 each. The ramen was also around $14, but my friend found the broth a bit too salty, but the portion looked just relatively small as well. Food was good, staff is nice. Not sure if it was my mistake, unclear on the menu, or purposefully deceptive. Ive had ramen all over NJ and most places are a let down. You would think Edison would have ramen spots that would wow you but nah.. only place I like are Rai Rai and Ramen Nagomi oh and Terakawa. But Sakana, I was surprised.. wasn't expecting their spicy miso ramen was good my experience with most places are that the broth is weak, bland. Sakana's spicy miso isnt just spicy but also flavorful, the pork it comes with is is also well seasoned. Maybe if they can give just a little bit more broth? This place is so so good. I had the Tuna Dumpling and Pepper Tuna Tataki as appetizers. Both were pretty tasty. The Pepper Tuna Tataki was sheared perfectly. The edges were perfectly peppered. The Tuna Dumpling had a perfectly soft tuna wrapper with a good amount of lobster and shrimp. The sex on the beach roll was very good as well. The shrimp tempura had a pretty thick piece of shrimp. The ends were kind of hard to eat for me. I loved all the speciality rolls except for the Angry Dragon Roll. It kept falling apart but also I think it is cause there isn't a lot of rice on the roll. Great little restaurant for Ramen and Sushi rolls. They also offer hand rolls and sashimi. The Ramen portion is too small for the price, however delicious. The sushi are great for the price, definitely recommend the special rolls as they have better taste and flavor. The special rolls come in 4 big pieces, easily divided in half for 8 regular pieces. There's really not much good to say. The Beef yakisoba noodles were easily the worst dish I've ever ordered from a take out spot. I can't even describe how inedible they were. Honestly, it looked like left over food from other peoples dishes that they just served to us in our take out order. Neither me nor my boyfriend could eat them. The beef was grey and fatty. The sushi kept falling apart and was very average. When all is said and done, I'll never spend another dollar here. There's way too many better sushi spots in the area. read more

After trying their ramen for the first time this past weekend, I NEED to update my review. While the sushi is great, this is seriously such a surprising hidden gem for ramen. I normally don't get ramen for takeout but was really craving it and OMG their chashu pork is probably the best I've ever had in my life. It's so perfectly tender, almost like cotton candy. I got the Tonkotsu Ramen which is typically my favorite and I just couldn't believe how amazing it was. There is no comparison to the old Japanese family owned restaurant, Jo Sho. The Sakana service was atrocious! I told the waitress the service was poor so she told another waitress about it, and this waitress proceeded to shout at me! Never had I experienced such behavior from any restaurant!!! We patronized the old Jo Sho over 30 years ago. The wife died so the husband was selling the restaurant to another Japanese who interned for over a month to learn the business. Unfortunately, he died also before taking over the restaurant. Then the restaurant sat vacant for many years. Much later the restaurant reopened. We went there again regularly, and then we saw new faces at the restaurant, the current Chinese owner. The food was never the same and rarely go there anymore. Now with this atrocious behavior from the waitress ( owner's daughter), anyone think we will go there again? The old owner Jo Sho would turn over in her grave!!! read more

Good service, good atmosphere, and clean. What really makes a restaurant though is the food. The sushi is identical to Ichiban (same owner). It's just decent sushi, but nothing to write home about. If you're not the super picky type, this is a good place to get some sushi lunch specials. Now, the ramen... is not ramen. It looks like ramen, is advertised as ramen, but it is simply a noodle soup with the same ingredients put together in an unfamiliar(?) or weird(?) way. My review history will show you that I am an absolute ramen fanatic, but the tonkatsu ramen I had here was just a noodle dish. First, the broth itself is on the less saltier side. Less salty as in it feels like a "diet ramen". It does not have that signature savory salt taste that is a MUST for ramen. Second, the pork charshu is flavorless and rather dry. It seems they tried to make it healthier and, in doing so, lost that tender, sodium-laced juicy pork piece that is the foundation of any pork based ramen. Third, the noodles were not your typical ramen noodles. They tasted like some hand drawn noodle you would find in a Vietnamese noodle dish (not pho) and the texture was not quite the chewiness you would expect in ramen noodles. It's a decent place. I went to Sakana during my lunch break because I was craving some ramen at a reasonable distance from work. I went in around 11:50AM, and it was pretty empty. I had the tonkotsu ramen, and it tasted pretty good! Not too salty, and the meat was pretty fatty. I'm not extremely picky about my ramen so I would give it a thumbs up. As I was enjoying my food, around 3 more parties started to come in which was nice to see. Service was ok - they will get you in and out and check on you now and then. The only thing I would recommend is that they have a spoon holder for the ramen as I would prefer it not sitting in my bowl or on a napkin. Will I be back? Most likely. This was our first time here. We started with spring rolls - they were hot and delicious. The meat around the asparagus was good. We thought the meat around the asparagus could be a little bit more. We also had the pork buns which were pretty yummy. The soba noodles with chicken were delicious. Great portion too. Been here a few times with my wife and a couple times solo. The sushi / sashimi is of good quality as is the customer service. We are always greeted quickly and with a warm welcoming manner. I personally only get the sushi and sashimi when we go and I have always been pleased with the portions and quality. My wife has tasted some of there other items, yakisoba and ramen dishes. The yakisoba she said was good but the ramen doesn't compare to the ramen place we normally go to. Overall I'd highly recommend them based on the dishes I've tried. read more
