I went with coworkers for dinner. It was a mellow atmosphere and the waitstaff was quite pleasant. We had a noodle dish, a few appetizers and the crispy duck. Everything was fresh and tasty. Everyone enjoyed the fried icecream for dessert. I will visit again when I'm in the area. read more

I love Thai and Malay food. I was at MALAY along with my friends last evening and we were very disappointed. I ordered Red curry with vegetables and tofu and papaya salad. Both were horrendous....they had a whole lot of cabbage in a curry. My friends ordered Pad Thai and they were disappointed too. When compared to Thai Kitchen in Bridgewater, Origin Thai and Taste of Asia in Chatham....this restaurants is below average in both Thai an Malay cuisine. The ambience is good. Delicious and cheap Roti Canai! (this place made me fall in love with roti...) Overall, inexpensive and yummy. Great outdoor atmosphere. However, do NOT order the honey calamari. Our server second guessed us when we ordered it because even she wasn't comfortable selling it to us, but we figured what the hell? Sounds good enough... WRONG. Though prices are slightly higher than average for some of their dishes (read: anything with seafood), the roti canai, chicken pad thai and red curry were all delicious. I've eaten in every Malaysian or Thai restaurants in the tristate area and this one ranks the lowest on my grid. I ordered the Massaman Curry with shrimp for dinner. The shrimp were good but the sauce was tasteless, no peanuts or potatoes and it was completely bland. This restaurant was good several years ago. Perhaps there are new owners or new staff in the kitchen. Sad to say the prices have gone way up, and the restaurant was so brightly lit, it was as though I was eating in the cafeteria at work. Not very romantic for a date on a weekend night. We asked if the lights could be lowered but nothing changed. The service was good but frankly, it was pricey and the atmosphere was a turnoff, and my meal was way below par. I would suggest Thai Kitchen in Bridgewater or Origins in Morristown. Better food, better lighting, and the same pricing. Wish I could give this restaurant a better review but it was a complete disappointment compared to what it was several years ago. read more

Just ordered Red Curry w/Chicken and a similar beef dish. Both were sub-par. The beef was fatty, and the chicken red curry was bland and was missing any real veggies (only came with onions...wtf??). There are better Thai options in Morristown (Sirin) and this was only slightly better than Chinese take out...expensive and sucky. Not a good combo. Avoid avoid avoid. read more

Food's great (as good if not better than Penang in E. Hanover) but parking is a bear. Prices for the portion size are a bit on the high side. Service is prompt and attentive. Wonderful Roti Canai. My wife and I had lunch at Malay this afternoon. Not sure what to expect, we had mixed expectations. The restaurant has been completely redone, we liked the interior of the previous place too but the update is pleasing. While we thought the previous Thai restaurant at this location was pricey and low in quality, what we had today - green curry vegetarian and a seafood noodle soup, was very good and we will definitely be back. Lunch menu is very affordable, which of course helps. Look forward to trying the dinner menu and take out. read more

For authentic Malaysian cuisine, you can hardly do better than MALAY. And you get to enjoy it all in an elegant setting. The prices are reasonable, too. For appetizers, try their Roti Canai (pronounced "chanai"), a crispy crepe eaten with curry, Honey Squid (fear not, it's almost like candy!), and satay. The Char Kway Teow is a delicious bargain. My boyfriend ordered a noodle dish that could barely be called a noodle dish. It was a plate of slimy mush. We took two bites of our food and threw every single thing in the garbage. Malay specializes in serving Malay and Singapore food, an entrepôt cuisine that brings in influences from the various ethnicities of the Malay peninsula, Southeast Asia, China, the Spice Island, India, and even the West. Flavors are aroma-forward and bold in taste. The key to having a good meal at Malay (the restaurant) is to know what to order; for this, the wait staff are not always the most helpful. In my opinion, the best food at Malay are the dishes particular to Malay-Singapore cuisine, so a guideline to follow is not to order anything that you might see at a typical Chinese take out place. One of my favorites on the menu is the Eggplant and Salted Fish--a silky, savory, slightly sweet and mildly funky combinations of flavors and textures. Beef Rendang is a fork-tender casserole of beef stewed in a delicious sauce redolent with lemongrass, ginger, galangal, kaffir and coriander. Nasi Lemak is a rich treat, combining the gentle heat of curry with the aromatic creaminess of rice cooked in coconut milk. There is slight upselling by the wait staff, but to me, they're just doing their job. I just stick to my guns and order what I like. My family and I dine at this restaurant twice a month. We are Malaysians. Some people are confused that this is a Thai restaurant. We have been trying so many Malaysian restaurants in the city and in NJ, this is the best Malaysian restaurant by far especially when it comes to Chinese food. It tastes as good or even better than some of the restaurants in Malaysia. Highly recommend Chinese food like #31 seafood chow fun, 38. fried pearl noodle, etc and chicken satay, honey squid. Did not like it at all. Ordered coconut shrimp, there was not a hint of coconut flavor, just panko bread crumbs, greasy and tasteless . The crispy mango chicken were just fried breast of chicken with some mango pieces over it. No souse or anything, just like eating fried chicken with the side of mango. Duck was not great either. The food had no flavor, all tasteless and did not resembled Malay or Thai food. Just your everyday American version of not sure what. Will never come back. read more

The experience begins with the owner Maggie greeting the guests at the entrance and ends with every pore of the body tingling with the gastronomical delights. Their hospitality is outstanding and each delicacy oozes with the culinary passion of the chef. The must-try dishes at this restaurant are Roti Canai, fried wontons and Nasi Lemak and if you don't end your meal with the coconut and mango ice cream wrapped with white chocolate then you are going to miss a heavenly treat! Their take-out was awful. I got a "vegetarian" meal according to the menu and it had NO vegetables in it. Basically had noodles soaked in oil. Same with the other dishes. There was no flavor to it either. We also ordered a spicy chicken dish and there was no spice to it. Will never order from here again. read more
