Thankfully, Mintea just a quick drive north on Ridgedale Avenue in Morris Plains has completely filled the void left by Laku's untimely demise. While the dining area's minimal decor clearly prioritizes function over atmosphere, the food and service are where this place truly stands out. The menu runs the gamut of Asian cuisines -- covering Japan, China, Thailand, and Vietnam -- and every single thing we've tried is incredibly well-executed. My dining companion and I have ordered everything from sushi to soups and noodle dishes and nothing misses the mark. The service is also terrific. The servers are genuinely friendly and attentive without ever being overbearing. One of the long-tenured servers always asks my dining companion how her father is doing -- because he had joined us once for dinner at Mintea a few years ago. My coworkers swear by this place and have made it a tradition to order sushi every Wednesday. I finally got invited to join, and I can confidently say this spot is solid! I've tried a variety of sushi, and it's always fresh and delicious. The rice dishes are great too, and I especially love the wonton soup, which uses thin pasta instead of the thick noodles that most spots serve. I also tried the Pad Thai, but it wasn't really my favorite because the noodles weren't my preferred type, and the shrimp were a bit large and gummy. The service was friendly and they want to ensure a very clean environment. Mintea is hit or miss, but lately it seems to be more of a miss. They have a large menu with a variety of Asian cuisine like Japanese, Chinese and Thai. Based on everything I've gotten, I'd say to avoid Japanese and Thai dishes and stick to simple sushi rolls and simple Chinese dishes. The chicken teriyaki was not good. Usually this dish comes with high quality white meat grilled chicken. This was like a weird dark meat breaded chicken. The pad thai is also not great and comes with a low quality chicken. Mintea hits the spot for wonton soup and egg rolls - both have been A+ every time. Unfortunately, for more complex dishes I'd probably steer clear. There are lots of amazing Thai and Japanese options in town to hit up instead. read more

A certain group in our office loves this bistro and I wanted to try it with them. To be fair, I am merging their reviews with mine, because I myself did not really go for it. Then again, because this was a work order, I went with the lunch specials everyone else seems to order in instead of sushi, and that's on me. The Thai is not what you want here - the wrong flavor balance and ingredient balance, mushy noodles. But then again, between the photos and my coworkers (who have eaten in - I have not had that opportunity yet, only the takeout), the sushi one would order in the restaurant itself is likely five stars. So out of fairness, I will blend the stars into a final rating of 4, and prod my coworkers to get us out of the office a little more so I can experience this place in person and get the review fleshed out. read more

I've been going here for about a year, today was my 24th time there. I've eaten in, but mostly I get it to go. The sashimi is always fresh and of great quality for the price, there's definitely better out there but it comes with a much higher price tag I generally get Temaki (cone shaped hand roll), Maki, special rolls to be precise and some assortment of sashimi They always deliver flavour and good quality fin and shell fish. The one thing I don't like is being charged for condiments like spicy mayo - I'm spending on average $75 an order you can't give me a couple of 2 ounce containers of spicy mayo - come on guys!!!! I have been here before with no problem, but I do have celiac disease. So on Oct 15, 2025 I, as usual, asked for gluten free soy sauce (Tamari). The server nodded and came back with a small ceramic container. There is no way to tell Tamari from regular soy sauce, neither by look, aroma or taste. Unfortunately it was not actually Tamari. I am embarrassed to say that I vomited on the table 3 times (sorry, Mintea), and it has taken 36 hours for me to stabilize. My recommendation is to go, but if you are celiac, bring your own Tamari. read more

This restaurant is such a hidden gem - the staff is so welcoming and friendly and we've never had to wait very long for a table. Extremely accommodating. I feel like I've ordered everything on their menu at this point - gyoza, shumai, scallion pancakes, every special roll, and even bento boxes and chicken katsu (which is a great lunch special of theirs). I was in the mood for Japanese and found this spot. I called in my order of the general tso shrimp lunch special. When I arrived I parked in the plaza lot. I walked in and was greeted and my food was ready. I paid and left. The food was good just the shrimp was a little too breaded. Also the vegetable gyoza was a little oily. My wife and I stopped in last night for a later dinner, the resturant was empty minus a few employees and each one was very friendly and excited to greet us. All employees were wearing masks and were very professional) After we were sat our drink order was immediately taken and brought out. Our waiter was excellent very happy and excited to be taking care of us. He let us know of things he enjoyed on the menu prior to us ordering, and checked back in often. We ordered 4 rolls which we have done at many places before, but the portions were very large and we were not able to finish. (dont worry we took it home) All four rolls were excellent served on a boat with a very pleasant presentation. Upon arriving the waiter showed us what each roll was so we understood what we were trying. The sushi was great and certainly was not expected from a strip mall, you could taste the freshness or the fish which was very clean and combined very well for delightful flavor combinations. The waiter came back and joked how we had to throw in the towell since we couldnt finish and packed our leftovers up for us, next Angela (assuming she is the owner) brought us our bill and thanked us for coming in. We had a brief discussion about how we are from the area and trying Mintea for the first time. She was very polite and passionate about her resturant . Overall we had a great experience, we will certinally be back to try something else than sushi and we are looking forward to it. I have been to Mintea many times. Every experience is great and the staff are amazing. This is a family owned resturant with many different food options. The staff are very accommodating and will go above and byond to make your experience great. The food here is definitely above average and each dish always has high quality and fresh ingredients. Each time the fod is consistantly good and very tasty. The sushi here is very tasty and well made. I personally reccomend the salmon lover, a favorite of my family's as well as any of the other sushi dishes. My personal favorite is the gemeral Tso's chicken. One of my favorite "chinese" dishes. No other place can compare to the perfection of this dish here. The chicken is crunchy and juicy in the center. The sauce is excellent and the portion given is very good. The atmosphere of this restaurant is very nice and low key. There is a good amount of seating and the restaurant is kept clean and well decorated. You can have a nice conversation with another person as well as a group of people without it being to loud or uncomfortably quiet. An overall amazing sushi and asian food restaurant.
