I have been coming to the Southaven Movie Theater for many years. They actually remodeled it a few years back and put in recliner seats. You can also order food from your seat at this theater. They have drinks and grill type food. Although. I like the olive branch theater much better, this one's not bad. If you go during the week. The weekends, it tends to be a hangout for a lot of young kids. The inside is fairly clean. And the service is good. I just wish they would open up more registers. The popcorn tends to taste a little old at times, but for the most part it's ok. I recommend this theater if you want the recliner seats. If that's not a big deal to you. The olive branch theater is much nicer and they have the bar grille as well. read more

It has been a long time since I've been to the actual movie theater, and I'm glad I went. We saw the Accountant 2, which is a good movie. We were able to immediately buy our tickets from the kiosk. No wait! The line for the concession stand was long but moved quickly. That was surprising and enjoyed. Of course, the concession stand is not cheap but the popcorn and the nachos were good. Worth the money! The actual theater itself is clean and the reclining seats make it very comfortable. I did not try the service, but the sign said you could even have hot food delivered to your seat right in the theater. I don't often go to the movie theater, but when I do, I'll make sure to return to the Malco DeSoto cinema. read more

Just ... no. The only good thing about this whole experience besides enjoying the movie was the prices since my husband and I went earlier in the day. The staff does not want to be here, they don't smile and are extremely dry and curt. Maybe they'd do better as a prison guard or something , but customer service isn't it. Some lady with huge glasses and in a wet and wavy wig let us know the kitchen was closed, no explanation why nothing ... just when we tried to order she abruptly cut us off and said "it's closed". The popcorn was stale and the bigger woman didn't even had us our popcorn you slid it over the counter without even looking at us. The other day when I came in, one of the workers, Nisha, was in the back of the theater sleeping. I came early to cinema 8 only to find her with a broom and dustpan carelessly in the way on the stairs to the point that my grandson tripped on it. I confronted her and she had the audacity to say that I was interrupting her "me time". She then spent the time not only abstaining from cleaning trash from the previous group, but sat on her phone until previews. Went there last night; ordered two pizzas and drinks at 7:15pm, which they only take 20 minutes for pizzas I was told. For this location they bring the food to you. First my drink was flat, so I had to go back and get another drink, time lost (7 minutes) from the movie to go back and wait in line. Then after 40 minutes with no food, I had to leave the movie again to see what the delay was. The cashier kept going back and forth to see what happened, then comes back saying there was an issue with the oven and it would take another 45 minutes. UNACCEPTABLE! I told her we've already waited 40 minutes, now 50 minutes because I had been there with her 10 minutes and now she says to wait another 45 minutes for something that takes 20 minutes? I asked for a manager because at this point the movie would be over by the time we wait another 45 minutes, given 50 minutes had already went by. The manager came and said the cashier was wrong and it won't take 45 minutes, maybe 20 minutes. MAYBE?? I told her I've now missed an additional 15 minutes of the movie plus the time lost from movie getting another drink earlier, then, my drinks are watered down waiting on pizza, and we're starving. All she could do is give us popcorn or full refund with no pizza. Had I wanted popcorn, I would have gotten them which I already get free with my rewards. She said that's all she could do. If I get a refund, I'm stuck with no food instead of her at least giving a refund and giving it free due to inconvenience and time I've missed from movie I paid for! UNACCEPTABLE! Then to top it off, there were knats flying around in the theater room making it hard to enjoy the movie. I had to keep my drink covered. Eventually by 18 minutes the pizzas finally came. Of course the movie is now almost over and we have watered down drinks from the long wait. The pizza was okay but I was so mad at the extensive wait times on food, time in lines, lost time from movie, watered down drinks, and the clueless cashier, I was too mad to even eat, plus I'd have to stuff it down since movie was now almost over. Not to mention the knats flying around, I couldn't enjoy the pizza if I wanted to. I missed half of the movie that I paid for with no reimbursement. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! Earlier today my wife and I received the WORST customer service EVER, by a worker named, "Nisha." As I was in the bathroom, she was washing the counters with toilet water, as she thought I couldn't see her sneaking the water into her bucket. I was very disgusted by this, and I confronted her she told me to "F*** off". I wanted to report her to management, but she wasn't wearing her nametag. I let it go, and went to finish watching my movie, and it was swell. The seats were comfortable, the sound was amazing, and my food was nicely cooked. I had almost forgotten about Nishas' behavior until after the movie finished, and I saw her "cleaning" the floors. However, cleaning is an overstatement because she was really just kicking popcorn underneath the seats and calling it a day. I even watched her drink out of a random persons cup. When I saw her, I noticed a necklace on her neck that said "Nisha" and immediately ran to tell a manager about her behavior. They apologized for my experience, and promised this would be investigated into. I will NOT be taking my business back here until I know she is fired. read more

Southaven Malco Is the best. We we're able to pick our own seats in advance. With me being a Diabetic, being able to sit in a recliner seat was amazing, I was able to lay back and lift my feet. We we're so comfortable and they weren't overbooked for the movie I went to see (Till). I felt very, comfortable and safe. I made sure to know where the exit doors were in case of an emergency. The only thing I wish they would do is (KEEP THE LETTERS OF THE ROWS HIGHLIGHTED) even when the lights go out. Went to go see Alien: Romulus, and I was one of two other people in that screening. I ordered $10 Philly Cheese Steak Egg Rolls from the counter and was told they would be delivered to my seat. The cashier even put both myself and my girlfriend's seats as the place of delivery. An hour goes by with no delivery so I go to the counter, at which point it is closed, and I am told that they "threw them away." The employee whom I spoke with then offered me a refund then took his merry time going to the back and getting it to me, while I was missing my movie. read more

Went to see The Black Phone yesterday - row full of noisy kids down from us that talked the entire movie. Parents did absolutely nothing to quiet them. The Black Phone is not a kids movie. These same kids ran amok in the Woman's bathroom prior. Kids appeared to be between 9-10 and left a whole mess of dumped popcorn etc behind when movie was over. I was shocked to see them in this movie since I thought they were going to see the more appropriate Minions movie. I paid $30 to see this movie which was excellent but these kids were a nuisance. First time back since the pandemic hit. My boyfriend and I went to see Spiral. I honestly can't remember if I've been since they've updated the seats and whatnot, but they were very comfy. I have no complaints. We enjoyed the movie, the theater was clean and that was that. We had to wear our masks inside until we were in our seats and eating. It was not crowded at all, in fact we had the whole row to ourselves! It was a very good experience in my opinion. read more

Honestly I despise coming to this location. I usually go to the Olive Branch location because they have leather seats. Anyway, this theater usually holds some movies a bit longer than other locations (which is why I am here). Almost EVERY seat is utterly disgusting. It seems as if they never clean this place! There is gum in the cup holders and food all over the floors and seats. Overall the workers seemed to be friendly but i would still rather go to a cleaner location or at least one in which I can personally use a Clorox wipe before I sit down. read more

My mom and I decided to see a matinee, but I had no idea they showed movies at 1045am! We made it just in time and I also noticed ticket prices were different after this time for matinee and afternoon times. The bathroom was very clean and of course the best part was not having to deal with sticky floors and left over popcorn from previous showings. I'm not from the area, but I will take every chance I can to go during the early morning shows. read more

Service is horrible! Not enough staffs, and the seasoning salt was open and out everywhere! We were going to see Space Jams 2 but, we were staring at a black screen for 1 1/2 hours! The time the movie is suppose to be over 5pm. we were in the cinema for a hour more than we were suppose to be! The Malco in Southaven is obviously the only movie theater around town. I say obviously because they have let even the basic things go. The bathrooms are always disgusting, they are rarely staffed appropriately and the theaters are never clean. I know that the local Malco theaters do not have total control over pricing so I will not ding them on that issue but when you are paying $7.50 a head to see a matinee movie the least they could do is clean the floors. I returned to the Malco over the holidays because my family lives in Southaven and I wanted to take my niece and nephews to a movie. I was reminded of why I said I would never return. It was the middle of the day on a weekday and we waited forever to get our snacks. When we walked into the theater my feet stuck to the floor. I had to try and pry the seat down next to me so that we could pile our jackets, bags and such on a seat since the floor was clearly not OK. Thank God for Redbox and a few nicer theaters in Memphis. We came to see "Burnt," starring Bradley Cooper! Although I've only checked in here twice, I must say I'm a regular here. The staff and employees are always very accommodating and nice. We always get the #1 special-a large Coke and popcorn with unlimited refills: $10.75 Ticket and concession prices are inflated as to be expected in today's economy. This movie theater has come a long way. I live in Whitehaven, but was going out in East Memphis to the Paradiso to the movies, because it was so unruly in Southaven. But now since Southaven has remodeled the theater and they have real security in there, I love it. All seats recline!! The food menu is very good. And whoever said Memphis people make it ghetto is a bald faced lIe!! Mississippi people are as ghetto as they come!!! So don't blame that one on us. read more

I have a certain nostalgic love for this theater, as it's where all of my teenage years were spent. At one point it was the only decent theater in the county and the only proper entertainment, so it's where we all went to hang out on Friday nights. I recently went to see Mr. Peabody and Sherman with my mom and four year old. Overall, it's your typical Malco Theater. So-so service, same movies playing as most other theaters, good sound/picture quality, and same old over-priced concessions. I will leave you with a quick story that makes me leave only three stars for this place. I have a bad habit of putting my phone face-down on my leg at the movies which leads to it falling under the seat. I've done this on many occasions at several Malco locations. Usually I feel around and grab it and stick it in my pocket where it should have been in the first place, no big deal. Old habits die hard, etc. On this occasion, at this Southaven Malco Cinema, I dropped my phone as usual. But this time, when I bent down to pick it up it felt as though I'd stuck my hand in years worth build up slime -- spilled drinks, food, and probably some bodily fluids too. DISGUSTING. 1st and last time here. They are remodeling one side so was no one in the front to greet us. We walked around trying to figure out who or where to pay for tickets. No one offered help. Popcorn and food all over the floor early on a Monday. The entire theater stinks !!! It smells like a dirty bathroom. The girl who was scooping my popcorn was wearing an oversized sweatshirt and her sleeves were rubbing all over the popcorn while she was scooping mine. We made it an hour into our move and I told my fiancé we had to leave because the movie room smelled so bad. We tried moving to a different seat but everything reeks and smells terrible like someone peed on everything. I needed to use the restroom on the way out, but the restroom was so dirty and looks like one of the tolit leaks or over flowed. Went to see Kung Fu Panda 2 in 3D to escape the Memphis Heat and get out of the hotel. The movie started really late... over 10+minutes and then the tech person couldn't get the image centered on the screen. But once the movie started the 3D effects were really nice. This was one of my worst experiences ever at a movie theater. The seats are all in very poor condition, the projector is going bad so the color is off and there are red lines all over the screen, and the here's gum all over the place. Also the staff isn't very attentive and the concessions are very overpriced. They are supposedly getting new seats and renovating the lobby. While the projection and sound systems worked well and I had no issues viewing my movie, the overall experience wasn't as nice as going to a better theater. Yet another location that is off by about a mile so im replacing it. Beyond all that i def like the seating, the semi reclining chairs are something we didnt have back in NJ. Its a shame theres not an Imax screen but that didnt play into my rating however the lack of being able to buy tickets online did. Hopefull this is something that will be happening in the future but i thought the concession stand was reasonably priced as was the movie tickets themselves. Hubby and I had date night to see the Expendable 3. First of all we had the entire theater for that showing to ourselves which we absolutely loved! Second the reviews on this movie was not favorable but we both gave the movie 5 stars. The beginning was awesome as it set the tone for an action packed film. We enjoyed watching our "old school" heroes (Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Ford, Gibson) along with our forgotten (Snipes, Banderas,Grammar) and funny man Crews team with new schoolers. Watching the action just between them kept us laughing. The movie kept our attention and the action was exciting to say the least. Hollywood finally got it right using Rhonda Rousey in the part instead of some pencil thin beautiful bombshell that looks good and can't hold her own when it comes to fighting! Rousey was AWESOME! The girl was dynamic! Her stunts alone proved she could carry her own weight in a red dress and heels or not! She made us average sized women feel good as she wasn't wearing skin tight size 2 outfits that showed everything from the floor up! She looked great in what she wore and Hollywood kept it professional! After all this is a mission! If you haven't seen this movie and you're missing the old school action dudes go see this. The only thing that would have made it better was adding Bruce Willis, Vin diesel, & Van dame. read more
